ADD GUEST VOCALS TO VIRAL SINGLES FROM
WESTERN ROCK NAMES

DEBUT “YUVE YUVE YU FT. DANNY CASE
(FROM ASHES TO NEW)”

Mongolian rock sensation THE HU will take their self-proclaimed brand of “hunnu rock” to a new level as they further embellish their blend of traditional Eastern instrumentation and throat singing mixed with Western rock music by adding in some of today’s top rock acts to guest on the viral singles from their debut album THE GEREG (Eleven Seven Music).

The first pairing features guest vocals from Danny Case of hard rock labelmates From Ashes To New on the track “Yuve Yuve Yu” and was debuted worldwide via SiriusXM‘s Octane radio show earlier this week. Available now across all digital platforms (link below). From Ashes to New have had two Top 10 singles, with streams totaling over 180 million and 223K album equivalent units to date.

Full dates can be found listed below.

With over 45 million views for their epic music video singles including “Wolf Totem,” “Yuve Yuve Yu” and “The Great Chingiss Khan,” THE HU are a force to be reckoned with.  Check out some critical praise from recent shows below:

“The Hu had everyone pumping their fists and chanting “HU! HU! HU! HU! HU!” in between almost every song, and their music – which is not the kind of thing you hear every day in America – was genuinely awesome. Don’t mistake The Hu for a novelty act or anything; they are just a great band in general.”
–Andrew Sacher, Brooklyn Vegan, 9/15/19

“The room was pulsing with an indescribable sonic energy, akin to that of a swaying heartbeat pumping its way through the crowd to the beat of synchronized drum hits and Mongolian fiddles. Song after song, the packed crowd moved at the fingertips of the brotherhood before them. It was a mesmerizing performance.”
–Hunter Walwaski, The Concordian (Montreal), 9/24/19

“STABBING IN THE DARK (ACOUSTIC FT. MATT HEAFY)”
INCLUDED ON OCTOBER 25TH DELUXE RELEASE

BAND REVEAL TRACK LISTING FOR
‘THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT’

October is the month of haunting, and horror-inspired metal outfit ICE NINE KILLS are prepared to keep listeners filled with terror as they slowly unravel details on the deluxe edition of their critically acclaimed standout 2018 effort, THE SILVER SCREAM.

Scheduled for release on October 25thvia Fearless Records, THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT is a devilish director’s cut style delicacy packed with the original Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart-topping slab’s 13 songs of punishingly heavy and uproariously anthemic odes to 13 horror classics. In addition to the original tracking, the album will include bone-chilling acoustic dirge renditions of goth-avenging “A Grave Mistake (live at SiriusXM),” chainsaw-wielding “Savages,” machete-slashing “Thank God It’s Friday“(co-starring the first Jason himself, horror icon Ari Lehman) and pumpkin-carving “Stabbing in the Dark” (featuring Trivium frontman Matt Heafy), the latter of which premieres today in the below video stream, as well as being released across all digital streaming platforms.

The ‘hands of fate’ played their role not only in this song, but also in real life as TRIVIUM‘s Matt Heafy had originally covered ICE NINE KILLSStabbing in the Dark” on his ‘KiichiChaosKaraoke’ Twitch series, where fans request him to learn and perform a song of their choice in its entirety while live streaming. A collaboration was imminent, and the results can be heard below:

“Ice Nine Kills is one of the absolute best bands on the planet right now,” declares
HEAFY. “With their blend of styles and sounds and unique imagery, they’ve crafted a world entirely their own.”

“Being such a big fan myself, I did an acoustic cover of ‘Stabbing In The Dark’ on my Twitch live one day. Next thing I knew, INK checked it out and dug it – which I was honored to hear.”

“When I was asked to guest on a proper acoustic version of my favorite tune from The Silver Scream–I was elated.”

“I can’t wait till the world hears this newly reimagined version of this incredible song. Watch as INK takes the world over. Mark my words.”

CHARNAS also commented: “We were devilishly delighted to find out that Matt was a fan of INK. When we heard his chill-inducing cover of ‘Stabbing In The Dark,’ we knew right then and there that we had to collaborate with him.”

He continues, “We have enormous respect for Matt’s abilities and are honored to have him be a part of this spooky, almost folk-like rendition of the song. He slaughtered this performance and we can’t wait for people to hear it during our favorite month of the year.”

Stream “Stabbing in the Dark (Acoustic ft. Matt Heafy)” here: https://found.ee/sitdacoustic_yt

5. The Jig Is Up (ft. Randy Strohmeyer of Finch)

OHANA FESTIVAL–the three-day festival curated by Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder–returned to Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, CA this past weekend (Friday, September 27-Sunday, September 29) with a sold-out crowd of more than 45,000 music fans. Beyond OHANA‘s musical line-up–a mix of powerful headlining sets, standout collaborations and performances from emerging talentthe Storytellers Stage Presented By Zippo In The COVE at OHANA included a collection of professional surfers, conservationists, artists and National Geographic photographers.

Here’s some early feedback on the 2019 OHANA FESTIVAL, which featured performances from The Strokes, Eddie Vedder, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tash Sultana, Incubus, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats and more than 25 acts:

“Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder’s absolutely magical Ohana Festival, held the last weekend of September on Doheny State Beach in Dana Point…the magical setting of being right on the water, and the way the festival is so smoothly run…In an age where festivals are becoming more and more gentrified and homogenized, Ohana manages to reflect the individuality and no compromise feel of Vedder himself…the festival is set on the ocean and benefits both San Onofre Parks Foundation and The Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association; the charities tie into the “Storytellers” stage, where conservationists, pro surfers, photographers and more come and share their stories; the festival is only two stages right next to each other so you can set up your blanket or chairs and not have to move back and forth constantly…What makes Ohana magical is that it still feels comfortable, homey and maintains a sense of purity. It doesn’t feel like it answers to anyone.”
FORBES.COM, 9-29-19

“The festival, curated by Pearl Jam singer Eddie Vedder, has slowly and quietly, become one of the best fests not only on the local concert calendar but nationally as well…Leaving the venue as a cool breeze gently brushed across your face, it’s easy to get why a nice festival like Ohana works.”
THE WRAP, 9-30-19

“There’s usually something magical that happens at the annual Ohana Fest at Doheny State Beach in Dana Point…The festival atmosphere is also just extraordinary; it’s all about feel-good vibes and listening to music while simultaneously enjoying the Pacific Ocean lapping at the shoreline.”
OC REGISTER, 9-28-19

“The 4th annual Ohana Fest came to Dana Point over the weekend, officially closing out summer with a rock-heavy lineup that did not disappoint…a great lineup that delivered many surprises at a picturesque venue on the water makes this one of the most intimate and exciting festivals around.”
OC WEEKLY, 10-2-19

“The fable nearly writes itself: Eddie Vedder, lifelong beach advocate, rallies friends & fellows for a festival to end the Summer, right on the beach where he first learned to surf as a teenager. The Pearl Jam frontman has curated an enchantingly chill, simplified musical experience at the Ohana Festival, held the last weekend of September on Doheny State Beach in Dana Point, four years running…In an era of homogenized festivals bordering on the bland, Ohana inarguably inspired happiness…Ohana has become an annual Summer’s-end tradition that reliably reignites the fires of festival adventurism one last time for the year…”
ANTIQUIET, 10-1-19

Ohana Fest remains a mainstay for SoCal festivals…the annual Ohana Fest remains a quintessential festival amongst the many that have cropped up in Southern California in recent years. With its placement on the shores of one of the state’s picturesque beaches, surrounded by palms, and constantly caressed by cool weather and gentle breezes, Doheny epitomizes the kind of laid back cool that the festival thrives on.”
GRIMY GOODS, 10-2-19

“Ohana Fest has a major chill vibe…”
MUSIC MXDWN, 9-29-19

Additional details about OHANA can be found here. A portion of the proceeds from OHANA will benefit the San Onofre Parks Foundation and the Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association (DSBIA). A full list of OHANA participating charities is as follows: California Department of Parks and Recreation; California Coastal Commission; Doheny State Beach Interpretive Association; Drop in the Bucket; Parley for the Oceans; Rob Machado Foundation; San Onofre Parks; SHACC – Surfing Heritage & Culture Center; Sea Legacy; Surfrider Foundation, South OC Chapter; Waves for Water; WSL PURE; and Wyland Foundation. OHANA 2019 sponsors include KONA, Toyota, Maui Jim Sunglasses, ZIPPO, SkinMedica®, JaM Cellars, Aperol, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and Youtheory. OHANA is a Live Nation event.

COLT FORD Shares Track-By-Track Interview On His New Album, ‘We The People, Volume 1’

DATE: OCTOBER 32019

FROM: MITCH SCHNEIDER/LYNDIE WENNER, SRO PR

COLT FORD
SHARES TRACK-BY-TRACK INTERVIEW
TAKING LISTENERS INSIDE THE SONGS ON HIS NEW ALBUM
‘WE THE PEOPLE, VOLUME 1’

We The People is classic Ford with twists from the soft and tender, to the rebellious and includes some unique duets that work perfectly, making this a creative masterpiece from beginning to end.”
–Michelle Kennedy, The Country Note, 9/28/19

Country star and multi-million-selling artist COLT FORD has shared a fun and revealing track-by-track interview (*see below*) that takes listeners inside the songs on his newly released seventh album WE THE PEOPLE, VOLUME 1 (released September 20 on Average Joes Entertainment).

The 14-song album includes the latest hit “Slow Ride,” the groove-driven song featuring guest vocals by number-one hitmaker, Mitchell Tenpenny, to create a seriously infectious blend that radio is embracing:

“First listen to ‘Slow Ride’ and KNEW immediately it was a hit! It’s Colt at his best with M10. How can you go wrong with these two?”  —Tom Hanrahan WDXB Birmingham, AL
“The feedback from our listeners [for ‘Slow Ride’] was so overwhelmingly positive…our listeners are totally on board…country music offers something for everyone.” — Lisa Johnson KHBZ Harrison, AR

The accompanying video for “Slow Ride” featuring Tenpenny was directed by Ed Pryor for Hideout Pictures and recently premiered on “YouTube Premieres” (here). It is also being broadcasted on CMT Music and can be seen at CMT.com.

FORD and his band are currently touring the country. View the tour dates here.

COLT FORD
Track By Track
‘We The People, Volume 1’
2019

“I’m Still Me”
Early on in my career, I wanted to plant my flag like, “I’m Colt Ford. This is who I am. I don’t have to tell you; my music tells you.” “I’m Still Me” is me replanting that flag. After all these years, a lot of things have changed, but at the end of the day, I’m still me.

“Slow Ride” feat. Mitchell Tenpenny
I wrote “Slow Ride” with Taylor Phillips, Josh Mirenda, Jared Sciullo and Justin David Bertoldie, who plays fiddle in my band. “Slow Ride is just the melodic jam that has you 30 seconds into the song and you just wanna let the music take you. Lyrically it’s just the guy saying “hey let’s forget all the trouble and you and I get lost in each other.”

 “We The People”
I don’t know if I’ve ever sounded as good as I do on “We The People” [laughs]. It’s just me. It’s not a political statement. I don’t care if you’re white, black, brown, purple, who you love, or whatever it is, come hang out, be a good human, and have some fun with other like minded people. We have one life; this is not a dress rehearsal, this is it. We can never survive happy and healthy if we don’t work together.

“Back To Them Back Roads” feat. Jimmie Allen
That was getting back to my roots like, “I don’t want y’all to forget how me and Brantley Gilbert took you down these dirt roads first. Let me show y’all where all of these back roads are. It still feels damn good to just crank it up loud, roll the windows down, and let the music do some good for your soul!” I love Jimmie Allen’s voice. He’s super talented and a great guy. I work with people I’m friends with. It’s not an industry setup. It’s organic. It’s more magical that way.

“Red, White, Blue, and Blessed” feat. Walker Montgomery
It is what it is. I don’t like artists who get into politics. If you’re going to get up there and get involved with all this political shit, I expect you to really get in there and get your hands in it-don’t go on Twitter and Instagram and just say a bunch of dumb shit. As far as what the song is about, I support the men and women who provide our freedom. If you’re here and you’re in this country with all our opportunities, we’re red, white, blue, and blessed. The truth of the matter is, I watch what celebrities say. They want their words to be taken like gospel truth, but the truth is they didn’t study it. It’s an opinion! Keep your opinions to yourself and let audiences enjoy what you do and your God-given gifts.  That’s it, man.

“Night Cap” feat. Michael Ray
I got that song from Tyler Hubbard who’s in Florida Georgia Line. Tyler was born and raised 25 minutes from where I’m from. I took Florida Georgia Line on the road before anybody else did. I believed in them. The success they’ve had is unbelievable. I sent him a message like, “Hey man, I need some songs.”As soon as he sent one, I knew I wanted it. He was like, “That’s ours!” [laughs] He sent me another one I loved, and he finally let me have it. It’s super cool, and it’s got crazy swagger and sexiness to it. It’s for the girls.

“Lucky Scars” feat. Eddie Montgomery
As a songwriter, you write something and you’re like, “How has nobody written that?” That’s, “Thank my lucky scars” for me. Those stories are real. The names in there are real. We take some shots. A lot of people have become crybabies about a bunch of shit that ain’t even important. I wasn’t raised like that. We didn’t tattletale. If somebody hurt your feelings, you’d be in the middle of the front yard fighting back. An hour later, you’d be playing hide and seek. Stop being a cry baby, get on with living your best life, and be a good person.

“Where The Water Is” feat. Dan Tyminski
This is one of my favorite songs on the record. I got it from Walker Hayes, one of my good buddies. It just feels so good–great vibe about it. I was finished with it and then asked Dan Tyminski to jump on here and what he did with his background vocals and on the underneath chorus was amazing. Then he grabbed the mandolin…and WOW.
“Bring That ‘W’ Home”
If you know anything about small towns, it’s a small-town anthem or theme song. Friday night football is a big deal in a small town. It’s life. It means everything to some of these people. Where my dad grew up, he didn’t have anything. He was a good athlete, so Friday night was as important as winning the lottery. It really resonates with me and how I was raised.

“Cooter Brown” feat. Larry Fleet
My whole life, it’s a saying that I’ve heard, “Like, boy did you see Jim last night? He was drunker than Cooter Brown!” It’s a really good country tune that’ll be fun to play live.

“Bass Like That” feat. Dan Tyminski
That song isn’t saying much; it’s just a fun one. There’s some funny sexual innuendos in there. It ain’t offensive. It’s country as heck though. I love the way I sound on it. With “Bass Like That,” I want to be able to reach some people who didn’t think they’d like country music, that’s as cool as winning a GRAMMY®.

“Time Machine”
I’ll be 50 this year, and I’ve been so blessed and done so many cool things in my life. I’ve met some of the coolest people in the world. In terms of that song, as you get a little older, you start realizing how smart your parents were or a teacher or a coach and you start thinking back to those times. I’ve got a lot of life to live though. Looking back, people can relate to that song wherever you’re from of looking in that windshield and bringing back memories. It’s just a nostalgic, good, right-down-the-middle country song.

“How You Lose A Woman”
That song was written 15 years ago. I’m a guy who loves songs; I love great songs. I don’t care if I wrote them. I thought that song was a number 1 hit from the moment I heard it. I’ve pitched it to multiple artists and said, “You’re crazy if you don’t cut this!” Fast forward all these years later and being more comfortable with who I am, I decided to cut it myself. It’s one of my favorite things I’ve ever done. Every man in the world should listen to it. I’m giving you a playbook on how to win. Every woman can relate straight up.

“We The People” (Remix) feat. DJ KO
You put that on at any club, you ain’t getting off the dance floor!

As part of a concept-based trilogy of singles based on otherworldly influences, THE HAUNT follow the release of their ominous debut track “Why Are You So Cold” as they unveil a new pop-oriented melodic single, “Cigarettes & Feelings.”

Co-written with Christian Medice (LovelyTheBand, P!NK, Hillary Duff), the track’s music video was inspired by French New Wave films, especially Jean-Luc Godard’s Masculin Féminin.

Cigarettes & Feelings” features a bizarre love-triangle between 16-year old front-woman Anastasia, Alfonzo–an alien she’s befriended–and a handsome new love interest. ANASTASIA explains, “As I begin to fall in love with the new man, Alfonzo becomes more and more jealous, eventually leading him to accept defeat and wallow in his cigarettes and feelings.”

Lauded as the ‘Best Unknown Band‘ by Miami New Times following the release of their self-titled debut EP and a nearly sold-out global tour alongside Palaye Royale, THE HAUNT have returned to the studio to record new material for their sophomore EP–due early 2020–with acclaimed producer Matt Good (Asking Alexandria, The Word Alive, Stitched Up Heart). Stay tuned for further updates.

TASH SULTANA delivered a powerful sold-out show this past Wednesday (September 25) at the iconic venue Red Rocks in Morrison, Colorado, building on her growing stature as one of the world’s most electrifying performers.

Packed with one highlight after another, among them “Big Smoke,” “Free Mind,” “Synergy” and “Jungle,” the concert was recorded and filmed for a future live project. The day was captured on film to give a behind-the-scenes look into the multi-instrumentalist and global sensation’s largest American headlining show to date. Leading the film crew was TASH‘s own touring videographer Dara Munnis.

“I feel like this is a closing ceremony for this chapter of my life which has been years in the making,” said TASH a few days before the show. “I’m happy to be able to document what we have achieved from a live perspective and show everyone the hard work that’s gone into these shows the past few years. It’s going to be a hell of night.”

The Red Rocks show was part of TASH’s critically acclaimed fall 2019 tour that has included a recent stop at the Central Park Summerstage (New York), along with an upcoming slot this Friday (September 27) at the Ohana Festival (Los Angeles). These dates mark the largest headlining gigs in TASH‘s career and come after a few spring shows in the U.S., followed by solo performances at 10,000-seat venues and festival appearances this summer in Europe.

Last year was one of the biggest years in TASH‘s career. Highlights include the release of her debut album FLOW STATE (Mom and Pop Music) which entered the charts at #4 on the Billboard Alternative Albums Chart and also charted across the globe. FLOW STATE was also nominated for the prestigious Triple J Australian Album of the Year award and six ARIA’s (The Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards). Other recent accolades include over half a billion streams worldwide; the certified platinum singles “Jungle” and “Notion”; the certified Gold (internationally) Notion (EP) and the singles “Mystik” and “Murder To The Mind”; and record-breaking attendance at live shows around the world.

For those who have not yet experienced TASH live, TASH recently revealed “The Story So Far,” a three-part documentary series in partnership with YouTube Music that shows the journey from bedroom performances and busking to sold-out world tours. Check out the first two episodes now on TASH‘s channel here and here, with a third to follow.

TASH‘s shows continue to garner many critical accolades. Here are pull quotes from some recent shows:

Tash Sultana left the audience in awe…”
BILLBOARD9/21/19

“Sultana is a frenetic and expressive performer on stage, clearly feeling every chord with their body as they play.”

“When looped, Sultana’s cascading licks crash into thunderous, electrifying waves.”
LAS VEGAS WEEKLY9/23/19

If a musician could ever be described as performing with every fiber of their being, Sultana would be itSultana’s voice was astounding, rising up to rafter-shattering cries, and recalling Billie Holiday’s soulful tone during the more intimate moments. There was beatboxing, and there was beatboxing in a pan flute.”
JOURNAL SENTINEL, (Milwaukee, WI), 9/11/19
To see Tash Sultana perform is to enter into a certain indescribable atmosphere.”
LIVE FOR LIVE MUSIC, (New York City, NY), 9/5/19
A straight-up guitar-goddess, Sultana tore through much of her set like Jimi Hendrix‘s spiritual offspring, always lost in the music and never anything less than elated to be making it. She made it very clear very quickly that her guitar was her partner up there, and their chemistry throughout the night was palpable bordering on overwhelming.”
–Timothy Patrick Boyer, THROUGH DIGITAL EYES, (Providence, RI), 9/4/19

Tash Sultana is a Melbourne-based multi-instrumentalist who uses loop pedals with such deft dexterity it can often seem like witchcraft…blends reggae rhythms, orchestral rock sounds, and mind-searing solos with a vocal timbre and delivery that is unmistakable for anyone else.
DONYC9/12/19

“…sensationally unique experience.”

About
TASH SULTANA:

TASH has been playing music since her grandfather gave her a guitar at just three years of age to using fake IDs throughout high school to play open mic nights and busking regularly on the streets of Melbourne. Stories of TASH‘s mesmerizing talent eventually began to spread and before long, her Facebook and YouTube videos were receiving tens of millions of views. Now reaching far beyond the streets of Melbourne, TASH SULTANA‘s passion for music has thoroughly engaged a global audience who are hungry for more. To date, TASH has earned praise from the New York Times, Billboard, NYLON, Pigeons & Planes and more, an NPR Tiny Desk concert, and a U.S. national TV debut on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”

TASH sold-out every single date on her first ever U.S. tour before ever setting foot in the country, returning just a few months later for another completely sold-out tour. Since then, TASH has returned to the U.S. for additional headlining tours, selling out major theatres and arenas and showing no sign of slowing down.

TASH SULTANA continues to broaden her global audience and appeal through her incredible live performances including appearances at internationally renowned festivals such as Coachella, Governor’s Ball, Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, and Outside Lands, in addition to recent appearances at Shaky Knees, Bottlerock, and California Roots Music & Arts Festival.

The second annual ABOVE GROUND” benefit concert, organized by Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) and Billy Morrison (Billy Idol), was truly a night to remember. Taking place last week (September 16) at the packed Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, the star-studded event was an immersive evening of art and music celebrating the vinyl album as an art form, and at the same time raising awareness and funds for the treatment of mental health, with the profits being donated to MusiCares®, a charity of the Recording Academy™ that was established to safeguard the health and well-being of all music people. *Read an exclusive Q&A with Navarro and Morrison below.*

With one standout performance and collaboration after another (*see media pull quotes below*), the musical guests saluted two of the greatest albums of all time, which were performed in their glorious entirety: David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Marsand the Stooges’ self-titled debut album (celebrating its 50th anniversary this year), on which the world was introduced to Iggy Pop.

Q&A WITH DAVE NAVARRO AND BILLY MORRISON
ABOUT “ABOVE GROUND”
How do you feel this year’s event differed from last year’s show? The energy in the room felt even more intense this year.
BILLY: The energy was drastically higher this year and I think that’s a direct result of pursuing a goal that is NOT based on self. That positive loving energy for change is contagious and if we ALL try to channel that, imagine what would happen.
DAVE: I think there might be a couple of factors. For one I think that there has been a broader conversation about mental health since last year, and I also think that we followed through on something we started almost two years ago which tends to have more weight and validity. Not just another jam night, but an actual movement. Billy and I have been playing Hollywood with so many different artists for so many years that I think doing it a second time was key in contrasting the difference between this event versus other gigs. I also think that our selection of albums to highlight may have been more generally known, but that doesn’t mean we will straighten out and ever go down the center. We choose albums that shaped us musically and that carry artistic merit beyond musicality.

Anyone who witnessed the concert could easily feel your dedication to MusiCares with your personal comments onstage about how the organization helps musicians in crisis. Can you give us some comments about this dedication?
DAVE: My dedication to the cause comes deep from within as I have personally suffered in ways that I could not possibly explain. The only ones who would understand in any capacity are the ones that I am speaking to. I know firsthand how isolating depression and mental illness can be and I feel I have a responsibility to share hope as I have found so much peace within the process of giving back.
BILLY: The dedication comes from deep personal experience, both with our own traumas and with our direct experience with MusiCares. Again, I think if you come from a place of truth and love, you cannot help but be passionate and dedicated.

Will there be an Above Ground 3 next year and if so, perhaps you can talk about how your minds are already reeling with the possibilities of which albums to present?
BILLY: Yes, we are talking about Above Ground 3 already, but there is NO way I’m going to talk about what albums are in my head! That is a personal process that Dave and I enjoy for months…discussing, listening, and finding two records that mean that much to BOTH of us!!
DAVE: This is something we have become incredibly passionate about and intend to continue as long as possible. It’s going to take a lot of work and luckily for us there is no shortage of amazing artists and material that we can utilize in carrying this message further!”

Here’s a sampling of what the press had to say about the event:
“For an industry that has seen so many talented artists, and friends to many, from Chester Bennington and Chris Cornell to Avicii and Prodigy’s Keith Flint, succumb to battles with depression and addiction in recent years, just holding an open forum like this is so important. And it’s easy to see why it is so embraced by the music community. In two years Above Ground has quickly established itself as a night that can help people while delivering some unbelievable musical moments.”
–Steve Baltin, Forbes, 9/19/19

“…a very packed Fonda Theater enjoyed every minute of the star-studded Above Ground charity event… Above Ground is the pet project of Navarro and Morrison, with the goal to raise suicide awareness and break down the barriers that lead people to suffer emotional distress in silence. One can tell that this subject is something both men feel deeply about, both sharing in-depth stories of their own dark thoughts. Such vulnerability is refreshing in a world attempting to shed itself of toxic masculinity.”
–Roy Jurgens, Buzzbands.LA, 9/19/19

“…it was the kinda night that can happen only in Hollywood. A star-studded showing fit for the cosmos. That the display also happened to be for a damn good cause only made it even more so. After all, if having our heroes resurrect our gods doesn’t help keep people Above Ground, then what will?”
–John Hood, FLAUNT Magazine, 9/17/19

“…there was no doubting the passion of the organizers in bringing these great albums back into the spotlight and their dedication to the supporting the mental health battle. ‘Who’s next?’ Let’s hope that Morrison, Navarro and their musical friends will be back for another year to salute two more classic albums.”
–Chad Childers, Loudwire, 9/17/19
“Navarro and Morrison rounded up some of the industry’s best names to help them perform two full albums-The Stooges’ first album and David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust-and raise funds for an important cause…What struck me most during my time there was the amount of passion and heart that was poured into both the performance and the event. You could really see how each artist on stage truly loved their craft. But more than that, they loved it so much that they were determined to use it for good.”
–Carmina Taylor, Music Connection, 9/20/19

“[The HU] are not just taking elements from Western music,” observed NPR back in January 2019. “Instead, they’re using some of these elements and making their own authentic music. So it’s not rock music performed by Mongolians. It’s Mongolian rock music.” And now THE HU‘s debut album is garnering critical praise:

“The songs on The Gereg range from Western-style rock anthem ‘Shoog Shoog’ to the pastoral tranquility of “Shireg Shireg” to the bold, almost bluesy swagger of ‘Yuve Yuve Yu.'”
–Bryan Reesman, Billboard, 8/23/19

“The HU wound up with nine cinematic songs that seamlessly meld their influences, often highlighting the areas where the two overlap… Given the global platform they earned via YouTube, The HU have an entire nation rooting for them with The Gereg.”
— Kelsey Chapstick, Revolver, 8/23/19

“…this album is great because the tracks provide a historical glimpse of a country some people may not know about. The Hu is on tour and hopefully, people will learn more about the band while listening to live cultural music.”

This past summer, the band traveled to Europe and the UK for a sold-out 15-date tour in addition to performances at several major festivals including Download Festival, Rock im Park, Rock Am Ring, and Tons of Rock. The band were recently heralded as Cultural Envoy of Mongolia by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia.

THE HU will continue thrilling audiences with their one-of-a-kind style of ‘hunnu rock‘-a combination of American heavy rock played with traditional Mongolian instruments and guttural throat singing, as they tour across North America including upcoming festival appearances at Aftershock Festival (Sacramento) and Las Rageous (Las Vegas). So far, the band has generated 16 sold-out shows in North America. Dates can be found in the poster below and remaining tickets are on sale now at www.thehuofficial.com.

ABOUT THE HU:

THE HU stands for the Mongolian root word for human being, inspiring their original style of music that they call “Hunnu Rock.” The band pull Inspiration from the Hunnu, an ancient Mongolian empire better known as The Huns in western culture. Their music is deeply embedded with their ancient culture, even integrating old Mongolian war cries and poetry into their lyrics.

The group was founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia by their producer Dashka, along with band members Gala, Jaya, Temka, and Enkush. Together they create rock music with traditional Mongolian instrumentation such as the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp), guttural throat singing built around the pillars of heavy rock: distorted guitars, bombastic drums, and aggressive rhythms. All four members have earned Bachelor’s or higher degrees in classical music and have gained several years of touring experience throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim.

THE HU is:
Gala: Lead Throat Singer and Morin Khuur
Enkush: Lead Morin Khuur and Throat Singer
Jaya: Jaw Harp, Tsuur, Flute, and Throat Singer
Temka: Tovshuur

THE CULT Announce December U.S. Tour Dates

DATE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2019

FROM: MITCH SCHNEIDER/MARCEE RONDAN/ANDREA FAULK

THE CULT
A SONIC TEMPLE
DECEMBER U.S. TOUR DATES ANNOUNCED

SHOWS WILL FOLLOW BAND’S FALL EUROPEAN TREK
IN SUPPORT OF THEIR
‘SONIC TEMPLE’
30TH ANNIVERSARY
RELEASES

As THE CULT celebrate the 30th anniversary of their seminal Sonic Temple album, the British group–led by vocalist Ian Astbury and guitarist Billy Duffyhave announced additional dates through the end of 2019. The new U.S. shows in December follow the band’s U.K. dates and support the September 13 release of THE CULT: SONIC TEMPLE 30 by Beggars Arkive

The band Spirit Animal will join THE CULT for all the December shows. Tickets for the shows go on sale Friday, September 27 at 10:00 AM (local time).

Set lists for the shows will draw from THE CULT‘s 10 studio albums with the centerpiece being a super set that’s focused on the core songs from Sonic Temple, a pivotal album that brought together the alternative and hard rock audiences; some of these songs have not been performed since the album (their fourth) was originally released in 1989. Produced by the legendary Bob Rock, Sonic Temple had four chart-topping singles: “Fire Woman,” “Edie (Ciao Baby),” “Sun King” and “Sweet Soul Sister.” Sonic Temple proved to be an important moment for both the band and the wider rock scene.

THE CULT: SONIC TEMPLE 30 has been released as a deluxe box set and a 5-CD set. Plus Beggars Arkive reissued Sonic Temple on Double LP, which has been out of print for over 20 years. Read a press release about it here.

In a recent interview about the album, Ian Astbury explained how the band brought together hard rock and indie rock to create the unique, game-changing sounds on Sonic Temple. “We wanted to retain our core DNA as we went deeper into psych and hard rock influences. It was a complete immersion for me into art, film, music, poetry and literature, weaving those influences into what was to become Sonic Temple. The band was becoming more popular. We were in uncharted waters. Most of the bands we had come up with had split up or fallen off. We were accelerating. There was no real time to breathe. We were forming new allegiances and breaking the glass ceiling of ‘the indie outsider.'”

The album catapulted THE CULT into superstar status and remains their most commercially successful release. It has sold over 1.5 million copies in the U.S. alone and was certified platinum in 1990. It made it to #10 on the Billboard charts, and the aforementioned songs all remain rock-radio staples to this day.

The shows will be a gathering and celebration for CULT fans. As Billy Duffy stated about the tour in a recent interview, “I’d like fans to not only allow themselves a little indulgence into maybe simpler happier times of the late 80s for a few hours at a ST19 show, but also be happy that the music is now really their possession, not ours, and to do with it what they will.”

ABOUT THE CULT:
THE CULT has reveled in a controversial and storied career. Emerging from the darkly romantic UK post-punk scene with the album DREAMTIME, they followed it with the anthemic idealism of LOVE, the Rick Rubin-produced NYC street hustle of ELECTRIC and the textural amplifier worship of SONIC TEMPLE AND CEREMONY— deconstructing full circle for THE CULT. After a brief hiatus, the band returned performing at the Tibetan Freedom concert, then embedded themselves in the studio to record and release BEYOND GOOD & EVIL in 2001 just prior to 9/11.

BORN INTO THIS (named after a Charles Bukowski poem), their sixth album, was heralded by Mojo magazine as “a wholehearted, utopian, and irrefutably exciting record.” CHOICE OF WEAPON, The Cult’s third full-length album of the new millennium, made its impact against the ever-growing tide of disposable new media, launching a triumphant global tour culminating in an intense uplifting performance at Coachella 2014, acknowledged as “THE MESSIANIC MOMENT OF COACHELLA” by Rolling Stone magazine. In 2016 the band released its 10th studio album HIDDEN CITY, an elegantly brutal masterpiece inspired by a visceral exploration of self and soul launching THE CULT into another triumphant world tour, burning up stages with Public Enemy, Primal Scream, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses and many others.

THE STRAY CATS
RELEASE NEW VIDEO FOR
“DESPERADO,”
THE LATEST TRACK FROM
’40,’
THEIR FIRST NEW ALBUM IN 26 YEARS
ON SURFDOG RECORDS

The STRAY CATSBrian Setzer (guitar, vocals), Lee Rocker (bass, vocals) and Slim Jim Phantom (drums, vocals)–came back strong this year with red-hot shows and the critically acclaimed 40. It’s their first new album in 26 years and one celebrating the iconic American rock and roll trio’s 40th anniversary. Issued by Surfdog Records and distributed by BMG (CD, vinyl, digital), the album spun off four singles: Cat Fight (Over A Dog Like Me),” “Rock It Off,” “Cry Danger” and the latest, “Desperado,” described by the Washington Post as an “instrumental that could have been plucked from one of Clint Eastwood’s spaghetti westerns” (5/21/19).

“Reverb and tape delay–I love those two sounds,” says Setzer about “Desperado.” I was thinking of a Clint Eastwood movie. He’s in the desert waiting for someone to come over that he could shoot.” The recently released “Desperado” video blends scenes from vintage spaghetti western films and old beach movies for a crazy-fun pop culture mash-up. “I think Brian keeps in mind what everyone’s strengths are,” Slim Jim Phantom told Newsday (5/14/19) about the material on 40. “There’s one track that I was very flattered to hear he wrote for me called ‘Three Times a Charm’ and it was very much him imagining me doing the thing like Gene Vincent had Dickie Harrell do, where the drums answer the singing and part of the riff is the drum part.”

40, released May 24, entered the charts at #1 on the Current Rock chart; #3 on the Indie chart; and #5 on the Billboard Album Sales chart. This marks the group’s highest entries since 1983’s Built For Speed, which was released 36 years ago. American Songwriter declared “The Stray Cats remain a well-oiled machine, as super charged in 2019 as they were 40 years earlier (5/21/19), while All Music noted“Comfortable in their skin and still intoxicated by a big rockabilly beat, the Stray Cats sound vigorous and sly…(5/24/19).”

On the live front, The Stray Cats toured America from August 2-September 1 (presented by SiriusXM) on the heels of June and July overseas shows. The seeds for the reunion were planted in April 2018 when the Stray Cats performed at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend festival. As Lee Rocker told the Washington Post (5/21/19), recalling the moments waiting in the wings before the band walked onstage: “It was just me, Brian and Jim. ‘C’mon Everybody’ on the sound system and 20,000 people and the sound of that crowd. That was really something that I won’t forget. And I don’t even know what it was. But it definitely hit me. It was one of those moments that you know you just swallow and you go, ‘Wow.'”

Here are some of the critical accolades the band received from various publications about their blazing U.S. dates:

“The beauty of this band is, even their new songs sound old. That’s always been by design. So those brand new tracks fit right into the set with ease.”
–Brett Callwood, LA Weekly, 8/30/19

“It’s was definitely a swingin’, rockin’, and shoutin’ of a good time as the sensational, iconic and legendary band the Stray Cats prowled their way to the Greek Theatre on Wednesday night. It’s been a long 40 years since they dropped their first album, In no way, shape or form are the Stray Cats showing any signs of slowing down…”
–Daniel Seyum, Music Connection, 8/30/19

“All three are now virtuosos on their instruments, with Rocker and Phantom weaving together intricate rhythms while Setzer delivers wild guitar solos. And Setzer’s rockabilly croon has only deepened and improved with age, as he showed on their breakout hit ‘Stray Cat Strut’ and a gorgeous version of ‘I Won’t Stand in Your Way.’ The simplicity of their setup makes what they do with songs like ‘Rock This Town,’ which becomes an epic anthem live with solos from Setzer and Rocker, all the more stunning.”
–Glenn Gamboa, Newsday (New York), 8/3/19

“Thanks to Setzer’s wide-ranging guitar vocabulary, the trio has added more ‘abillies’ – jazzabilly, bluesabilly, twangabilly, punkabilly, boogieabilly, surfabilly, swingabilly, even bluegrassabilly. At times Setzer, like Chuck Berry, would switch styles of music in mid-solo Sunday. He truly cut loose on the extended ‘Fishnet Stockings,’ fingers going full speed up and down the fretboard, downshifting to descending lines, jamming in any direction he wanted and, of course, giving Rocker and Phantom moments to solo…
–Jon Bream, Star Tribune (Minneapolis), 8/19/19

“The Stray Cats still have the same pedal-to-the-metal energy as ever…Judging from the band’s interaction with each other and the fans, the Stray Cuts were having big fun on the prowl. Notable was Setzer’s guitar playing. Shining through were the subtleties of his jazz and swing-based solo career. Between the straightforward, blues-rooted pentatonic scale, Setzer went beyond his descending fretboard flourishes and tremolo bar bends with jazz runs that rivaled Django Reinhardt.”
— Jeff Elbel, Big Takeover, 8/19/19

“What’s most striking is that Setzer, Rocker, and Phantom are each masters of their own domain. You can’t get enough of Setzer’s sterling-silver, economical turns when a valley opens up. He rips through each stanza, dropping jaws with a wink and a smile. Phantom, of course, standing behind a small kit, muscles the beat poppin’ without reservation or nonsense. Rocker plays the perfect the counterpart, plucking his standup bass with rigid authority and measured flexibility.”
–Shawn Perry, Vintage Rock, 9/2/19

The Stray Cats from L-R: Lee Rocker, Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom

About The STRAY CATS:
The STRAY CATS, the band that put Rockabilly music back on the record charts in the early ’80s, scored several big hits on both sides of the Atlantic thanks to a striking visual 1950’s style brought “up to date” with exaggerated pompadours and colorful tattoos and as well as genuine musical chops that evoked the best players of rockabilly’s original heyday. Formed by guitarist/vocalist Brian Setzer, upright bass player Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom in the Long Island town of Massapequa, NY, in 1979, the trio shared a love for Rockabilly music. After banging around New York for a few months, in the summer of 1980, and seeing a pompadoured kid on the cover of UK magazine NME, they hopped a plane to London where a rockabilly revival movement was just beginning to emerge. Their massive hits and videos include “Runaway Boys,” “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut” “(She’s) Sexy + 17,” and “I Won’t Stand in Your Way.”
