To coincide with the release of his ALL OF THE ABOVE album out this Friday (April 12) on OID Music, ROSS VALORY has unveiled a new video for “Windmill.” Directed by Michael Cotten, the visually thrilling video leans into the song’s Brazilian flair with live action to animation video with tropical seascapes, samba dancers, and picturesque city scenes, alongside ROSS and the other musicians playing the song. Watch the video HERE.

“’Windmill’ is another Latin-inspired tune [from the album] that dances across Brazil!” ROSS says. “It was written on guitar and as a result this is the first time I’ve recorded guitar.”

He continues, “This is the third music video release, on which I am so very happy to be collaborating with Michael Cotten. His work is unique and sophisticated, and I’m honored to have my music paired with his visual  magic. Michael and I are continuing to develop video concepts for the entire album.”

“Creating the videos for Ross Valory’s new music ‘All Of The Above’ has been both challenging and thrilling!” Michael Cotten adds. “To have such great musical inspiration is a dream project for my video art.  Regarding ‘Windmill,’ Ross has created a musical playground that brings to mind a fantasy ‘Sambascape’ that celebrates the spirit of Brazil in an engaging visual party.”

For the track, VALORY brought in Celso Alberti, the brilliant Brazilian drummer from the Steve Winwood band, who lit up the piece, laying down a track where Karl Perazzo [from Santana] added his percussion. Core team member and acclaimed keyboardist Eric Levy added piano and synths. The original guitar part that VALORY played on his Godin nylon-string electric remained, as did some other electric guitar parts he played. VALORY dropped a new bass part on the track and saxophonist Marc Russo finished the piece.

“Windmill” marks the third video and track from the debut album from one of rock’s best bass guitarists and an original member of the multi-platinum band Journey until his 2020 departure. It follows the album’s two previous Cotten created for Wild Kingdom (with its Latin-fired intensity) and Tomland” (the album’s hypnotic first single).

The track’s credits are as follows:

WINDMILL
(Ross Valory)
Ross Valory – Bass Guitar, Guitars
Eric Levy – Piano, Synths
Karl Perazzo – Percussion
Celso Alberti – Drums
Marc Russo – Alto Saxophone

ROSS VALORY always had pieces of music tucked away that he had written, although songwriting contributions to Journey slipped away after the first three “experimental” albums. As a member of Journey, VALORY concentrated on shaping the rhythm section and contributing his baritone vocals to the background blend.

During the band’s second coming following the 1995 reunion album Trial By Fire, VALORY began sorting through his files and polishing up some of his old notes. In between tour dates, he pulled together a tight-knit group of collaborators and slowly began to finish what he started. After a lifetime in music, VALORY scrupulously etched ALL OF THE ABOVE. The album was produced by VALORY and co-produced by Jacob Stowe and Eric Levy.

VALORY developed a repertory company of musicians over the years that came together at his studio. He cultivated individual numbers like sprawling projects, experimenting with different arrangements played by an assortment of musicians. Sometimes spending years jamming on these ideas, the pieces took shape slowly. Different ideas were tried and discarded, remodeled and refurbished. The basic concept was to find the heart of the material and expand upon it until VALORY could refine and shape the music’s path to his supreme satisfaction. He cast specific musicians to specific parts. The studio became his laboratory and the compositions his experiments.

From the Latin-fired intensity of “Wild Kingdom” to the ethereal dirge of “No One Wins a War,” the raucous party on “Low Rider” or the brilliant reprise of Santana’s “Incident of Neshabur,” the album presents an evolved artist fully in command of his vision, a lifetime of experience behind the project, augmenting his core associates with guest musicians such as Gregg Errico of Sly & the Family Stone, drummer Steve Smith, and saxophonist Marc Russo. The nine tracks on the album represent the full maturity of VALORY’s musical gifts, cutting a broad swath through the instrumental territory the music travels. He plays keyboards, guitar, and, of course, many basses in a display of cultivated virtuosity across a palette far broader than could be found in his work with Journey. He is stepping out from behind his bass and, for the first time in his more than half-century as a professional musician, representing his vision and his compositions.

VALORY left Journey in 2020 and the band members worked out their issues in a peaceful mediated settlement. VALORY, who spent most of his life as a member of Journey, has no regrets. He counts his blessings at having spent an amazing career with a remarkable group of musicians who succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.

The ALL OF THE ABOVE track listing is as follows:

Wild Kingdom
Nightflower
Tomland
Touched, Part II
Windmill
Incident at Neshabur
Low Rider
No One Wins a War

3X Grammy Award-nominated NOTHING MORE return with their fifth album, CARNAL, on June 28 via BETER NOISE MUSC. The album features 15 songs with the San Antonio, TX-born quartet’s most focused, adventurous, and intense music to date, including their current radio single “IF IT DOESN’T HURT” which is currently in the Top 10 at #9 on the Active Rock radio charts and rising. Recorded with Grammy-nominated producer WZRD BLD (Disturbed, Motionless In White, A Day To Remember) with mixing and mastering by Zakk Cervini (Limp Bizkit, MGK, Bring Me The Horizon), CARNAL unites NOTHING MORE’s trademark introspective philosophical lyrics and unapologetically massive anthems with in-your-face rockers designed for an all-encompassing audience. Pre-order CARNAL now via digital download, CD, vinyl, and cassette tape at https://nothingmore.ffm.to/carnal.

“‘CARNAL’ feels like a perfect encapsulation of what NOTHING MORE has always been,” says guitarist MARK VOLLELUNGA. “From progressive introspection to steady-state rock ‘n roll, we felt like we’ve achieved the exact balance wanted for this next installment.”

“It’s a beautiful blend of memorable guitar riffs, illustrious chord progressions and heart wrenching lyrical performances all to the beat of a drum that palpitates with syncopated obsession,” states bassist DANIEL OLIVER. “There’s truly something for everyone on this record.”

NOTHING MORE have today released a new compelling and defiant track “HOUSE ON SAND” featuring I Prevail vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe. Stream/download “HOUSE ON SAND (feat. Eric V of I Prevail)” across all digital platforms HERE.

“Sometimes you lose sight of your purpose in life and wander off of the path you were on,” says frontman JONNY HAWKINS on “HOUSE ON SAND”. “Years later you find yourself in a life that does not match the vision you once had for yourself. Trapped, you are left with a choice…betray your inner voice, or trust it; continue on and play it safe, or turn back and start again… I’m starting again.”

In regard to working with VANLERBERGHE, HAWKINS states: “I’m so honored and excited to have Eric screaming his heart out with me on this song!”

“Almost a year ago, the boys in NOTHING MORE sent me this demo and asked if I’d consider hopping on it,” shares VANLERBERGHE. “I checked it out and for the next few weeks, I had the chorus engrained in my brain. The song really resonated with me. I think this track, as well as the rest of their record, is NOTHING MORE’S best work and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Since their emergence in 2003, NOTHING MORE have continuously topped the active rock radio charts including nine #1 singles and over a half dozen Top 10 singles including “TIRED OF WINNING” from their 2022 album SPIRITS. To date, the band—Jonny Hawkins (vocals), Mark Vollelunga (guitar), Daniel Oliver (bass), and Ben Anderson (drums)—have amassed a total of 788 million streams and 150 million video views.

NOTHING MORE have won over audiences across the globe with their commanding performances of which Loudwire proclaimed: “it’s their famously vivacious live shows that truly enthrall, especially when they pull out some of bassist Daniel Oliver’s self-made gadgets. For instance, there’s the ‘Scorpion Tale,’ an extremely heavy beast made of metal scraps whose Ableton software permits singer Jonny Hawkins to alter multiple timbres (such as guitar, bass and vocals) while riding it. Then, you have the ‘Drumtron/Bassinator,’ a rotating bass stand connected to drums that allows for three-man bass solos.”

NOTHING MORE will head out on a co-headlining tour across North America this spring with Wage War and special guests Veil of Maya and Sleep Theory (4/16 – 5/18) followed by a set of direct support shows with rock icons Godsmack (6/23-6/26). They’ll also appear this fall at festivals including Louder Than Life, Aftershock and MMR*B*Q. For full dates, tickets and VIP upgrades, please visit https://nothingmore.net.

NASHVILLE, TN – This past Monday (April 8) the inaugural Bill Pursell Memorial Scholarship at Belmont University was awarded to students Matthew Oliver and Sam Wood, honoring the two students’ outstanding musical works and accomplishments. The ceremony was held at the Massey Performing Arts Center during Belmont University’s Scholarship and Award Day.

“This scholarship is a tribute to the legacy Bill (Pursell) left at Belmont, the countless composition and commercial music students he taught and mentored over the years who have gone on to do great things,” says Terry Klefstad, Professor of Music. “Student scholarships are the best way to honor his dedication to music and teaching. Bill was devoted to his students and gave of himself freely as a teacher. This scholarship is a way to continue that legacy.”

ABOUT JAKE JACOBSEN

Country crooner Jake Jacobson is cut from a different cloth.

A world-class athlete from the age of five, Jacobson performed at levels most people never dream of — all before he turned 17. And during the most stressful times of his young career, Jacobson turned to country music. Now, the neo-traditional “throwback kid” is spinning his own country gold.

With roots in Reno, Nevada, and an upbringing in a Northern California ranching town of 2,000 people, Jacobson finds himself drawn to the stories and lifestyles of the unique characters intersecting his life. And those are precisely the people and places that jump from the speakers on his latest work, the four-song EP Reno.

On Reno, Jacobson celebrates what made him — from the blistering weather of Nevada’s high desert to the neo-traditional country sounds he first heard from his dad’s own honky tonk band in the late 90s and early 2000s. You don’t need to listen hard to hear the influence Jacobson pulled from getting up on stage as a young kid and singing along to Brooks & Dunn’s “Neon Moon” with his dad.

But Jacobson is far from a tribute act. Much like his heroes before him (artists like Keith Whitley, Randy Travis, and Cody Johnson), Jacobson finds inspiration in the people and places that make his perspective unique.

“Reno is a city where there’s no last call,” Jacobson says. The combination of alcohol, gambling, and nearby outdoor destinations like Lake Tahoe make it a unique cross-section of all kinds of kinds. In his song “First Call,” Jacobson turns that trope on its head as a clever ode to leaning on the reliable ones in your life instead of the vices that can dig you deeper into the ground.

Reno the EP is much like Reno the city, in a lot of ways. For one, the four-song EP takes turns that feel uniquely distinct but each vital to what makes the work whole — much like the changing weather in the mountain town. “We truly have all four seasons of weather,” Jacobson says. “You just never know when one season stops and the other begins because they rotate year-round.”

And while Jacobson’s rising path to success is one tinged with a tip of the hat to the modern age — his first big break came when Randall King caught wind of a cover he posted on Twitter and invited him to come out to Nashville, eventually leading to his debut EP with Trent Willmon and a slew of dates opening for artists like King, Clay walker, and Kip Moore — there’s no doubt his continued success will be a testament to the timeless values of hard work and good storytelling.

ABOUT TIGIRLILY GOLD

Sister duo Tigirlily Gold has been playing music together since they could walk, and officially formed their band in high school. Growing up, they crisscrossed the mid-west, growing a fierce fan base and selling out amphitheaters across their home-state of North Dakota. After moving to Nashville, they landed a weekly residence at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row on Nashville’s famed lower Broadway. Playing four-hour sets, three to four nights a week, the sisters developed a performance style that’s not only captivating and fun but shows just how much entertaining is in their blood.

After releasing their original song “Somebody Does,” in 2021, the track topped the iTunes chart and Tigirlily Gold was signed to Monument Records. They released their self-titled debut EP in July 2021, working with multi-Grammy Award Winner Shane McAnally, and hit the road with artists Walker Hayes and Ashley McBryde.

Now, the powerhouse duo has embarked on a new musical chapter with their latest EP, Blonde – a deeply personal record that includes poignant tales of love and loss alongside powerful anthems and songs of female empowerment. The first release off the EP, “Shoot Tequila,” came out in January and has already found viral success with over 50 million views on the song across social media. Ready to bring girl group energy back to country music, Tigirlily Gold is poised for a breakout year.

The program is an engaging 1-hour documentary about the making of this tribute album to Chet Atkins featuring 22 artists (read full list of artists HERE) from the country, rock, bluegrass and acoustic musical realms. Due out April 19, it contains some of the world’s best artists and guitar players including Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, Tommy Emmanuel C.G.P., Ricky Skaggs, James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley, Sierra Hull, and many more. The documentary was executive produced by Martin Fischer and produced and directed by Kathryn Russ for Opry Entertainment Group.

Kathryn Russ, Producer Quote:

“The first day of filming was marked by Tommy Emmanuel’s recording of ‘Mr. Guitar.’ However, it was his intimate stories that truly captured the essence of the man they sought to honor. Chet Atkins was more than just a talented producer, studio head, and guitarist; he was also a humble, caring mentor who left a profound impact on countless musicians. Everyone interviewed for the project, including Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Emmylou Harris, Dolly Parton, and others, shared humorous and heartfelt stories. Grammy-winning Producer Carl Jackson helmed the tribute album which anchored our narrative. As a producer, ‘Chet, We Still Can’t Say Good Bye’ meant more to me than mere documentation; it was a labor of love and a testament to the enduring legacy of the man known as Mr. Guitar.”

Martin Fischer, Executive Producer Quote:

“Producing this TV special on the making of the new tribute album for iconic Opry member Chet Atkins has been truly inspiring. It’s been a remarkable experience witnessing legendary artists unite to honor Chet’s legacy. Through this special, we hope viewers experience the timeless and lasting influence the extraordinary Chet Atkins had on country music.”

Opry Entertainment Group and Morningstar Music Productions recently announced a collaboration HERE with The Opry Shop for WE STILL CAN’T SAY GOOD BYE – A Musicians’ Tribute to Chet Atkins. He has had songs recorded by Garth Brooks, Ricky Skaggs, Rhonda Vincent, Emmylou Harris, and Trisha Yearwood.

CHET ATKINS is the most recorded solo instrumentalist in music history who traveled far to become “Mr. Guitar.” The journey took the legendary icon from Appalachian poverty to international acclaim, from utter obscurity to three Halls of Fame. He is a 14x Grammy Award winner, a Grammy Lifetime Achievement recipient, A Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and a Country Music Hall of Fame inductee. Now, for the very first time on one album, some of the world’s best guitar players and artists join together to pay a musicians’ tribute to the innovator, songwriter, producer, record company executive and visionary Chet Atkins, as Nashville and the music industry prepare to celebrate what would have been his 100th birthday on June 20.

ABOUT MORNINGSTAR MUSIC PRODUCTIONS:

Morningstar Music Productions was created by executive producers and longtime great friends Rodger Glaspey and Ken Leister. The two partners performed in groups that recorded albums during the 70’s as collegians during the Folk/Rock invasion. Carl

Jackson approached Rodger and Ken with the desire to produce an album to honor Chet Atkins. The temptation to executive produce an album in Nashville paying homage to Chet Atkins with some of the finest artists and guitar players in the world including Vince Gill, Tommy Emmanuel, Brad Paisley, and other greats was too captivating to pass up… and thus, Morningstar Music Productions was born, with their first album release We Still Can’t Say Good Bye – A Musicians’ Tribute To Chet Atkins out April 19.

ABOUT STEPHEN WESLEY AND FLAMINGO TWIN

Stephen Wesley is a 2x Billboard charting artist. The genre-bending country singer/songwriter has collaborations with several of music’s most accomplished and well-known bands and solo acts. From Slash of Guns N’ Roses fame, to Smash Mouth, Bubba Sparxxx and his recent release, “Rock N Roll ft. T-Pain,” Stephen continues to push the boundaries of music and create his own sound. Flamingo Twin also features Kenny Harris (formerly of Panic! at the Disco); Jerrod Bettis (formerly of OneRepublic); Nathan December (formerly of Goo Goo Dolls), and Michael Ward (formerly of The Wallflowers).

ABOUT LOGAN MIZE

Ten years ago, when Logan Mize was busy being a Music Row staff songwriter, he’d occasionally feel homesick for Kansas, where he grew up. So, he invented a way to get back there without leaving Nashville.

“My friend Blake Chaffin and I came up with this imaginary town called Prairieville,” Mize says. “Blake is from Kansas, like me, and we have this certain way of speaking, with similar quirks in the way that we say things. So over the years, we wrote about fifty songs together about this town.”

They based the characters on people they’d grown up around and used stories they’d heard as inspirations for their sharply observed portraits of heartland life. “Whenever we’d get together, we’d be like, ‘What’s happening in Prairieville this week?’,” Mize says with a smile. “It was almost like our Lake Wobegon. It inspired us. Gradually, it morphed from writing about a town into a certain style of writing that we found to be completely our own, to where we could really tell that our songs had a certain stamp on them. We took the best of those songs and that’s this project.”

Welcome to Prairieville, Mize’s fifth album, may be based on a fictional place, but it’s also his most deeply personal work to date. And while the project was first conceived in Nashville, he’s now closer to a real-life version of Prairieville, as he and his family recently moved back to Kansas, to his wife’s family farm in Andale.

ABOUT CHASE WRIGHT

Chase Wright is doing more than make his childhood dreams come true: he’s introducing himself as a bold new Nashville artist with a freewheeling approach to genre, firm footing in relatable storytelling and soft spot for big choruses. Respect for country music’s way around a story without feeling beholden to it defines the Indiana native’s energetic songs, which rely on electric loops and pop-rock chords alongside more traditional sounds made from steel strings and wood. It’s a confident blend that belies the fact that Wright first picked up a guitar as a freshman track star at DePauw University. After graduating with a degree in economics, Wright packed his bags for Nashville, where he has since earned a publishing deal with Toby & Molly Music and signed with Morris Higham for management. 2022 was a breakout year for the rising star who was recognized by Spotify as a Hot Country Artist to Watch and named among SiriusXM’s Highway Finds class. Most recently, Wright was recognized among Pandora’s Artists to Watch 2023: Country list. Following the 2021 release of his debut album Intertwined, Wright continues to roll out new music with his latest hit “Hurt No More” available to stream everywhere now. In total, fans have streamed his music to the tune of 170 million times.

ABOUT KYLIE MORGAN

Kylie Morgan has quickly proven herself to be a relatable storyteller and an engaging live performer. The Oklahoma native is known for baring her soul in her confessional lyrics and leaving her heart on the stage, whether she’s headlining her own tour or supporting acts like Old Dominion. In doing so, she makes her listeners feel less alone.

While Kylie began writing songs at a young age, it wasn’t until her grandfather bought her a pink acoustic guitar for Christmas that it all came together. “I got my first guitar and it just clicked: Here’s where a verse goes, here’s where the chorus goes,” she says of her early songs around age 12. “It actually started to make sense for me, and you couldn’t get me out of my room writing songs.”

She has since spent the past 14 years honing her craft in the writing room and on the stage. Kylie vividly recalls first sharing a microphone with her grandfather at a young age while singing Elvis Presley’s “That’s All Right.” At 14, she set out on the open road and began touring full-time and hasn’t slowed down since. In August 2022 she made her Grand Ole Opry debut and less than a year later wrapped her first-ever headlining tour. Kylie also performed a career-defining set at Nissan Stadium at CMA Fest 2022 and joined Old Dominion for her first arena trek as part of the band’s No Bad Vibes Tour.
