BILLY MORRISON is marking today’s release of his new album HOLLOW, via TLG | ZOID distributed by Virgin Music Group, by sharing a video for one of the album’s highlights: “Take Me As I Am.” The soul-baring and thunderous track is rooted in heavy, angst-fueled ‘90s rock and holds nothing back with such lyrics as “Left unchecked I’m an animal, everything is flammable/I don’t wanna be this way.” Listen to the track HERE, watch the video HERE, and hear the album HERE. The “Take Me As I Am” video was directed by photographer Jane Stuart, who’s been pivotal to the Morrison visual aesthetic over the course of two albums, and filmed throughout Los Angeles where MORRISON lives. The striking video powerfully underlines the personal chaos and desperation that he’s singing about. His longtime friend—musician Franky Perez, seen performing with two showgirl dancers—makes a cameo.

MORRISON is currently impacting DSP playlists with the album’s third single, “Never Gonna Change,” a fiery pop punk anthem of alienation and rebellion that merges raging guitars and a prison-break pace with the unmistakable vocals of The Offspring lead singer. The first single from HOLLOW was “Becoming” [feat. Sully Erna of Godsmack & GRAMMY® Award winner Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme]. The track peaked at #19 on Billboard’s “Mainstream Rock” chart and marked Morrison’s third Top 20 rock track overall. Erna delivers an impassioned and raspy vocal performance on this song about transforming one’s life from darkness to light and Bettencourt rises to the occasion, ripping pure hellfire on his guest solo. Two years ago, BILLY MORRISON released THE MORRISON PROJECT via TLG | ZOID distributed by Virgin Music Group. It marked his third solo album (and first since 2015) and produced the #1 Active Rock Song (Mediabase) in America: “Crack Cocaine” featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Steve Stevens and co-written by all three artists. A deluxe edition of the album followed in 2025 and bonus track, “Gods Of Rock and Roll (Orchestral)”—another seismic collaboration with Osbourne and Stevens—landed in the Active Rock Top Ten (Mediabase).

HOLLOW is following the success of THE MORRISON PROJECT format with 12 songs, half sung by Morrison and half sung by a handful of MORRISON’s friends. ABOUT THE “TAKE ME AS I AM” SINGLE AND VIDEO

— “Take Me As I Am” rocks hard with perhaps some of your most vulnerable lyrics. Can you elaborate on the sentiment of the song and what inspired you to write it?

Morrison: Life is a hell of a journey and we are all fallible beings, but we all have the capacity for change. “Take Me As I Am” examines both the concept of change and growth as a human being, and the idea of arriving at a place of acceptance for one another. I believe that as long as we are aware of our faults, and we strive to be a better person tomorrow, then acceptance is one of the most healing attributes we can offer the world. And not understanding the power of judgement can be extremely damaging to others. Having been judged for one thing or another my whole life, finding those people that literally “take me as I am,” that accept me for who I am, and allow mistakes to be part of a learning process, is a wonderful feeling.

—You play all the instruments on the tracks except drums, making an already very personal song even more of an individual expression. Can you walk us through your mindset for the recording of the song?

Morrison: Imagine if STP had a torrid affair with Oasis, while hanging out at a party thrown by The Cult and watching an Alice In Chains documentary. I don’t really think too hard about the mindset when writing and recording a song, and especially with “Take Me As I Am” it was more a feeling, a vibe. And having the luxury and the ability to play all the instruments just makes it quicker to be honest. I don’t have to sit and argue if it should be E minor or C sharp, hahaha! I just do what I feel, what I hear in my head. Even with the drums, I don’t play the finished thing, I leave that to the professionals…in this case, it’s Erik Eldenius on the kit…but Erik would be the first to tell you that I program exactly what I want to hear from the drums, down to the individual hits, velocities, etc. Drum programming is something I really enjoy, so I spend many hours dialing in the drums and then ask the drummers to play exactly what I wrote!

— Who directed the video and please let us know what we can look forward to?

Morrison: I have had a photographer, Jane Stuart, working with me throughout both album cycles (the previous album, The Morrison Project, and the new album, Hollow) and her aesthetic and ability to portray me in a way that others fail to capture drew me in. When it came time for the video for “Take Me As I Am,” I asked her if she would consider making her directorial debut for me and she said yes! I literally just said “I have a yellow Lamborghini I want to use, and I’d like to have a black eye in this video,’ and left her to make sense of that within the track. And what a video she came up with, from creative concept to technical execution—she knew what she wanted. The color palate is very specific and the story captures the essence of the lyrics perfectly: a fallible man, learning from mistakes, and trying to make sense of his own shortcomings. The team she put together was fantastic and Jane knocked this one out of the park.

Billy Morrison has teamed with Dexter Holland for “Never Gonna Change,” a fiery pop punk anthem that merges raging guitars and a prison-break pace with the unmistakable vocals of The Offspring lead singer. This unstoppably catchy anthem of alienation and rebellion is the latest single from the British guitarist, singer, and songwriter’s album HOLLOW, out August 7 via TLG | ZOID distributed by Virgin Music Group. “Never Gonna Change” paints a picture of a dysfunctional home life and the feeling of eternal youth—live for the moment, party hard, regret nothing…the battle cry of every generation. “‘Never Gonna Change’ is one of those perfect pop punk slices of rebellion that hopefully spans a couple of generational gaps,” says Morrison. “Teenagers will always feel the same—misunderstood—and Dexter has been one of the most vital voices of teenage angst and rebellion since The Offspring hit the world running in 1984. So when I finished writing this track with Los Angeles-based songwriter, Jacob Bunton, it was clear we wanted Dexter to be the voice of the track. Dexter and I recently performed together in Royal Machines [Morrison’s side project], so I dropped him a text and he loved the idea. Thanks to the miracle of modern technology, he was able to record his tracks in the middle of an Offspring tour, and Barry Pointer mixed it all into the killer track we have here.”

Says Dexter Holland: “Billy Morrison has a great track record and is a good guy so when he sent me ‘Never Gonna Change’ for a collab,  it was an immediate ‘I’m in.’  The song is just the right amount of angst,  rebellion and fun.  A summer banger if you ask me.”

“The title track to my new album was inspired by the life that I led when I was homeless and addicted to heroin,” says MORRISON. “Begging for money on the streets and being the guy that people crossed the street from, I would watch people’s faces as they walked towards me, gradually realizing they had to walk past me and being disgusted at how dirty I was, or that I was begging for change. “Hollow” Single/Video—Q & A with BILLY MORRISON

•“Hollow” is an intense and poignant song about personal desperation, with a reference to a “narcotic embrace.” Can you tell us what inspired the song?

MORRISON: The title track to my new album, HOLLOW, was inspired by the life that I led when I was homeless and addicted to heroin. Begging for money on the streets, and being the guy that people crossed the street from ……. I would watch peoples faces as they walked towards me, gradually realizing they had to walk past me and being disgusted at how dirty I was, or that I was begging for change. That leaves an indelible mark on your soul and the song is about slowly crawling out of that hollow life.

•Looking at your career overall, you’ve been known primarily as a rhythm guitar player. “Hollow,” with its soaring, stadium-sized guitar lines, especially shows how much you’ve developed as a strong and confident lead guitarist. Can you tell us about your development?

MORRISON: I think it was only a matter of time before I somewhat “graduated” as a guitar player into the category known as “lead guitarist.” Basically playing so much guitar for so many years, it was a natural learning curve for me. I would never stand next to any of the greats, but I can clearly play what’s needed in my own music, and that would be primarily due to the encouragement and belief of Steve Stevens, who has always allowed me to stretch in the Billy Idol band. I also gravitate to the kind of lead and solos that are musical, not necessarily a thousand notes a second. So that helps!

•This is so much more than a lyric video—artful and eye-popping—following right in line with your previous standout videos. It mixes black and white urban footage from the UK with colorful, surrealist imagery. It’s a fantastic visual vehicle for the song. Can you tell us how it all came together and who directed it?

MORRISON: I definitely wanted to utilize the technology we now have available to us, even though this is “just” a lyric video! So I had a conversation with Mike Savage (who made the “Who the F%@K is Billy Morrison?” mini doc) and it turned out he was dabbling with all kinds of crazy tech and agreed to try a few things for this lyric video. I had no idea how it would turn out, but the brief was: “London, homeless, begging for change, being judged and criticized, Alice In Wonderland choruses.” And look what he came up with from just that brief description! I’m very happy.

Still, everybody seemingly wonders, “Who the F%@K is Billy Morrison?”

Today (May 6), the British guitarist, singer, and songwriter—joined by a cohort of iconic collaborators and friends—finally answers that question in a new short film titled “Who the F%@K is Billy Morrison?” Watch the six-minute documentary HERE.

Directed and edited by Mike Savage, “Who the F%@K is Billy Morrison?” tells his story through punchy editing, candid footage, and new interviews with Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, Al Jourgensen of Ministry, B-Real of Cypress Hill, Nuno Bettencourt of Extreme, mixer/engineer/producer Barry Pointer, and MORRISON himself.

MORRISON describes himself as a “multidisciplinary creative,” encompassing his “15-year career in the fine art world,” “30-odd-year career in the music business,” and “some successful acting moments.” He holds nothing back either, tracing an often-unbelievable journey from his childhood in the UK to international rock stardom on his own terms.

He observes, “Despite a 15-year drug addiction…40 years later, I have a number one rock song and multiple Top 10 hits, so everything that you see me do now is fueled by a case of, I guess, making up for lost time.”

The visual can barely contain the enthusiasm of its interviewees though.

At the very mention of MORRISON, McKagan beams, “He’s a hell of a guitar player, lives for music,” and B-Real reveals, “He’s thoughtful of everybody on the song and not too many people are thoughtful when they have you on the track.” Pointer marvels at his work ethic, “He’s a hustler, meaning he never slows down.”

After dubbing him “a bionic riff machine,” it’s Jourgensen who puts it best, “There’s a lot more to unwrap in the BILLY MORRISON box than you would think, but mainly he’s just a top shelf human being, so what could possibly go wrong?”

One of the short film’s most tender moments comes as MORRISON recalls his best friend Ozzy’s impact on his life. It was Ozzy who recognized his potential as a fine artist, leading to an unbelievable second act. MORRISON affirms, “He knew I had this in me…Here I am 15 years later.”

It’s just the tip of the iceberg though.

British guitarist, singer, and songwriter BILLY MORRISON says the filming of the video for “Becoming”—his new collaboration with Sully Erna (Godsmack) on lead vocals and Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme) on lead guitar—was nothing less than intense and, well, extreme. Watch it HERE.

“The ‘Becoming video’ is a pure performance video that utilizes the skill and aesthetic that our director Ivo Raza brings to the table,” begins MORRISON. “Sully [Erna] and Nuno [Bettencourt] both travelled to Los Angeles and we filmed in two locations: a rain room—where we shot for hours through a sheet of water!!—and a disused warehouse in South L.A. with a backdrop of a wall of lights. I added Erik Eldenius on drums, who played on the song, and Brett Scallions on bass, a co-writer on the song, and we used ghost lenses and other distortion techniques to represent the transition through the song that Sully’s lyrics talk about.

“The shoot was hot, sweaty and very long, and every person, band and crew alike could not have been more accommodating,” he continues. “The goal was to make a kick-ass rock video and we achieved that and much more!!” Read more about the video below in a Q&A with MORRISON.

About The “Becoming” Video

What was the biggest challenge in shooting the video in a rain room and warehouse in South Los Angeles?

MORRISON: The biggest challenge in the rain room was the humidity! It was 90 degrees outside, full on heatwave in L.A., and we were locked in a sealed room with pouring water for about five hours—it felt like we were filming on some humid tropical island somewhere, just without the sandy beaches! Played havoc on the hair as well!!(laughs).

What was the concept to visually bring the song to life?

MORRISON: It was Sully that came up with the out of focus concept and Ivo took that and visually illustrated the gradual ‘becoming’ clear, strong and powerful concept of the lyrics We are all in sharp focus by the end of the song.

The band footage is dynamic. Lots of ferocity and musician chemistry here!

MORRISON: We did have great chemistry on the set between us all and everyone showed up that day to work hard and bring their A game. It was a long, hot, sweaty day but I think we all had a great time and Ivo has made the end result feel like the great performance video that I wanted.”

MORRISON goes on to say that “when the music to ‘Becoming’ was finally finished, in my mind there was only one person I could imagine singing it, and that was Sully Erna. His work with Godsmack over the decades has just proven his voice to be one of the most powerful in rock music.” “Plus he’s a great guy to hang with,” adds MORRISON, “so fortunately for me, not only was his response ‘Absolutely I’ll sing it.’ We got to record it in Los Angeles together while he was here. It was a killer vibe, and when we were all at the Above Ground show late last year here in LA, it seemed only fitting for me to ask Nuno to play lead (keeping it Boston on this track!). And again, he graciously agreed, and absolutely killed it. It’s been a pleasure to work with both Sully and Nuno on this song—

it’s the perfect collaboration to launch this new album of mine!”

“I really enjoyed working with Billy and Nuno on this track,” says Erna. “It’s always a bit challenging when you have three creative people that work at such high levels of production to get to the finish line, but in the end the product always speaks for itself. And this song is strong! It’s a perfect example of not settling for anything less.”

“When you’re asked to collaborate on a song with incredible artists like Sully Erna and Billy Morrison, you’d have to say ‘yes’ before even hearing the song,” says Bettencourt. “But man, when you DO hear the song and it’s as badass as this…you forget who’s on it and just do it for the love of it.”

Billy Idol, Corey Feldman, Gilby Clarke, Steve-O, Tommy Thayer (KISS), and Kevin Martin (Candlebox) were among the 300 guests who packed Motor Cars LA Showroom in Hollywood, CA on September 19 for the VIP opening of the “A Moment In Time” photography/art exhibition in Hollywood, CA. Recording artist and contemporary fine artist BILLY MORRISON and world-renowned photographer MARK “WEISSGUY” WEISS came together for one weekend only—September 19, 20, and 21—to showcase a series of unique paintings by Morrison, based on the iconic images photographed by Weiss of such artists as Ozzy Osbourne, Tom Petty, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Lemmy Kilmister of Motorhead, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of KISS, and more. The event was presented by X5 Podcast and Motor Cars LA. At this red-carpet event, Rock N Roll and Fine Art collided with multi-million-dollar supercars in the entertainment capital of the world. The night was highlighted by a performance from singer, songwriter and guitarist Morrison, who was joined by Idol on a fiery version on his signature smash “Rebel Yell” (Morrison is the second guitarist in Idol’s band along with Steve Stevens). Morrison and musicians Jacob Bunton (guitar, vocals), Brett Scallions (bass, vocals), Erik Eldenius (drums), and Paul Trudeau (keyboards) also performed red-hot covers of “I Fought The Law” (Bobby Fuller Four, The Clash), “Basket Case” (Green Day), “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” (Bob Dylan, Guns N’ Roses), and “Surrender” (Cheap Trick). Former Guns N’ Roses member Gilby Clarke also played guitar and sang on “Dead Flowers” by The Rolling Stones.

Throughout the sprawling Motor Cars LA Showroom were 12 unique canvas pieces from Morrison, and high-end editions of the same photographs from Weiss, with a special 13th painting and prints going to support mental health, suicide prevention and trauma counseling through the Above Ground charity spearheaded by Morrison and Dave Navarro, Jane’s Addiction’s guitarist.

BILLY MORRISON

He has developed successful careers in multiple genres, as a rock guitarist (with Billy Idol for the past 15 years), a solo recording artist, and as a contemporary fine artist. Self-study and experimentation are the essence of Morrison’s process, working with oil paints and spray in a Warhol-esque aesthetic. Morrison’s iconic style mimics the effects of multilayered screen printing through a street art approach with the use of stencils.

MARK “WEISSGUY” WEISS

He is a world-renowned photographer who has traveled the globe photographing legends from Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, and Mötley Crüe to Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, and KISS. Weiss’ inimitable photographs helped craft the visual imagery of rock and metal in the 1980s.

Charlie Reece, the multifaceted businessman, musician, and founder of the X5 Podcast, has been making waves from his professional studio in Alabama. Known for his deep love of rock ‘n’ roll, Charlie is not just a podcast host but also a rock/country artist with an upcoming album. The X5 Podcast, which airs weekly, has been featured by Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Entertainment Tonight, NME, Loudwire, and Guitar.com, and is a lighthearted and culturally relevant mix of comedy and conversation with rock stars, personalities and comedians. As a collector of Billy Morrison’s art, Reece’s admiration for his work led to the birth of this anticipated collaboration show with iconic 80’s photographer, Mark Weiss.
