BILLY MORRISON, COREY TAYLOR, and STEVE VAI have joined forces on “Incite The Watch,” the new single and cutting-edge animated video from Billy’s recently released solo album THE MORRISON PROJECT via TLG | ZOID | Virgin Music Group. Today (September 10), a striking video for the song has been released. It depicts “flying superhero rockstars fighting against the corporate hordes and freeing music, creativity, and the enslaved masses!!” explains Billy. Watch the video—directed by Brett Boggs, whose credits include numerous Disney movies—HERE and see the quotes below from all three artists. It premiered yesterday via Revolver.

Incite The Watch” is an intense, ominous rock track fueled by Taylor’s gripping vocals and Vai‘s massive, virtuosic guitar solo. It was written by Billy, Erik Eldenius, Jeordie White, and Taylor. The release of the single follows Billy’s seismic #1 Active Rock Song and smash video “Crack Cocaine” featuring OZZY OSBOURNE and STEVE STEVENS and co-written by the three artists.

The “Incite The Watch” video was produced utilizing a revolutionary combination of artist- created character animation with a state-of-the-art application called CineTech to create AI-generated backgrounds and visual effects. This concept led to the advent of distinct, art-directed imagery on a tighter deadline. By utilizing human creativity with concept driven CineTech imagery, the video has a unique look that matches the brilliance of the music and allows the listener to visually join the story.

Here are quotes from Morrison, Taylor, and Steve Vai about “Incite The Watch”:

“Billy and I have known each other for so many years and we’ve done many performances together, it was only a matter of time before we put together something original and fascinating. Alternatively, I’ve been a Steve Vai fan since I was 15, and never thought I’d ever get the chance to do something amazing with him. Enter the great Billy Morrison who got both Steve and I on INCITE THE WATCH! I’m so stoked to be a part of this album with so many great artists and I can’t wait to see what happens next.”
Corey Taylor

“Billy Morrison is always getting into some kind of intense and creative musical mischief, and this record is the evidence of that. When he sent me the track “INCITE” I was very eager to contribute to it. It is slamming and crushing, and the energy of the track is palpable. It’s nice to be part of his mischief.”
Steve Vai

“The combination of Corey Taylor and Steve Vai on a Billy Morrison song is insanely exciting for me! This track started life as a piano riff from Erik Eldenius and once we had Corey’s fantastic vocal on the song, there was only one man we wanted to tackle the three key change extra long solo section—and luckily Steve said yes!”

“Incite really feels like an opus—a journey. It twists and turns, hits some unexpected changes and sections and resolves into modern rock heaviness and I am extremely proud that the end result appears on The Morrison Project.”
Billy Morrison

BILLY MORRISON and LINDA PERRY Team For The Single And Video “Chasing Shadows Feat. Linda Perry”

Coming off his seismic #1 Active Rock Song “Crack Cocaine”—featuring OZZY OSBOURNE and STEVE STEVENS and co-written by all three artists—BILLY MORRISON has teamed with LINDA PERRY for the single and video ”Chasing Shadows feat. Linda Perry.” The Rage-directed video has premiered today (August 28), Watch it HERE and listen to the track HERE.

The MORRISON-penned “Chasing Shadows” is featured on his recently released solo album THE MORRISON PROJECT via TLG | ZOID | Virgin Music Group. The song reflects the album’s musical diversity and is being serviced to Americana/AAA. It is a big piano-anchored pop and rock ballad about a fractured romance, with moving, subtly poignant vocals by PERRY.

“Usually when someone sends me a song, there’s a lot of changes that are made on my part—melodies, lyrics, arrangements, etc,” says PERRY. “However, when Billy Morrison asked me to sing ‘Chasing Shadows,’ he told me to ‘do whatever I wanted to make it better,’ and to me, there simply wasn’t anything that needed changing. I really loved the demo he sang originally and that’s a sign of a solid song. Billy Morrison is an authentic rock star, in very un-authentic times. I am grateful to play a small part in his world.”

“I’d written a ballad, primarily on keyboards and acoustic guitar, and I had what I hoped was a decent lyric and melody to go with it,” explains MORRISON. “Linda and I go back quite a long way, and I think she has one of the most incredibly powerful and unique voices I’ve ever heard. So, despite knowing that she rarely sings on things like this, I threw a guide vocal down and sent her the song. To my amazement, not only did she agree to sing the song for my record, but she also didn’t feel the need to change anything at all! As a songwriter, to hear this from someone as respected and accomplished as Linda Perry made me feel incredibly honored. Her performance on this track is sublime and emotional and I’m proud to be releasing the song and video to the world.”

THE MORRISON PROJECT was released this past April, marking BILLY’s third solo album and first since 2015. The British guitarist, singer, and songwriter—primarily known as Billy Idol’s rhythm guitar player for the past 15 years alongside lead guitarist Steve Stevens—has assembled an electrifying 12 songs with guest performances by Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, Corey Taylor, DMC, Al Jourgensen, Steve Vai, Steve Stevens, Linda Perry, Tommy Clufetos, John5, and more. PUBLIC OPENING AT MOTOR CARS LOS ANGELES SHOWROOM
SET FOR SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 21,
TO BE PRECEDED BY VIP PREVIEW ON SEPTEMBER 19
AND RSVP PARTY ON SEPTEMBER 20

World-renowned photographer MARK “WEISSGUY” WEISS talks below about his iconic photographs of Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy Kilmister, and Joan Jett. These photographs will be presented—paired with recording artist and contemporary fine artist BILLY MORRISON’s unique canvas paintings of them—for one weekend only: September 19, 20, and 21 at the iconic Motor Cars LA Showroom in Hollywood, CA. Billed as “A Moment In Time,” the event is presented by X5 Podcast and Motor Cars LA. See the event details below.

The exhibition will feature 12 pieces from Morrison, and high-end editions of the same photographs from Weiss, with a special 13th painting and prints going to support mental health, suicide prevention and trauma counseling through the Above Ground charity spearheaded by Morrison and Dave Navarro, Jane’s Addiction’s guitarist. Below are Weiss’ photographs of Ozzy Osbourne, Lemmy Kilmister, and Joan Jett, along with Morrison’s paintings of them.

Mark Weiss on Ozzy Osbourne Photograph:
Ozzy Osbourne and daughter Aimee, 1984, New York City

“Ozzy was always game for my out-of-the-box ideas. Our first shoot together was for the cover of Circus magazine in 1981, where I had him wear a pink tutu. From there, we pushed the envelope with every session, each one more outrageous than the last.

When Sharon asked me to do a shoot that would get him noticed in the magazines, Faces magazine agreed to put Ozzy on the cover, but it had to be something over the top. I came up with a twist on his album Diary of a Madman. Since it was the May issue, I thought, why not go with a Mother’s Day theme? We dressed Ozzy as a housewife, and the cover featured the headline “Diary of a Mad Housewife.” The photo ironing his daughter Aimee, ended up as a gatefold in the magazine and stirred quite a reaction—some people even thought the iron was plugged in!”

Mark Weiss on Lemmy Kilmister Photograph
Lemmy Kilmister, 1984, New York City

“I captured this photo of Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead, just moments before taking the stage at the Beacon Theatre in New York City during the ‘No Remorse Tour’ in 1984. Lemmy was a complex figure to decipher—he was difficult to read. His intimidating presence was undeniable, but if you could see beyond that and stand your ground, you’d earn his respect.

For a photographer, it’s crucial to gain the artist’s trust and be welcomed into their world, capturing moments that tell a deeper story—a time stamp of an era. I consider it a privilege when musicians allow me into their space. My approach is to remain unassuming, hoping to capture that magical moment where the connection between artist and photographer becomes genuine.

With Lemmy, I sought sincerity and authenticity—qualities I believe are most evident in the eyes.”

Mark Weiss on Joan Jett Photograph:
Joan Jett, 1980, Mount Vernon, New York

“I was in high school when I first heard about The Runaways. At the time, I was sneaking my camera into concerts and selling photos outside Madison Square Garden and out of my high school locker for a buck each. After The Runaways disbanded, Joan Jett released her debut album Bad Reputation in 1980.

I was 20 years old, living at my great-aunt’s house in NYC while attending the School of Visual Arts. Eager to expand beyond live photography, I started shooting studio photos of local bands to gain experience. I was also a staff photographer at Circus magazine, where I covered live shows. My role at Circus gave me valuable access to publicists and managers.

I met Joan through Carol Kaye, a publicist who had arranged photo passes for me to shoot bands like Aerosmith and Ted Nugent. When Carol mentioned she was helping Joan, I jumped at the chance to ask her to set up a photo shoot. Bad Reputation was gaining momentum, and I had always dreamed of photographing The Runaways.

On December 16, 1980, I went to a club called the Left Bank in Mount Vernon, NY. I taped up a bedsheet that I used as a backdrop and waited for the band to go to the stage. I had a roll of film loaded and ready to go. I took a few photos with her band the Blackhearts along with manager Kenny Laguna and his wife Meryl. Joan then picked up her guitar, and I kept shooting until the film ran out. When you capture that perfect moment, you just know it. For this shoot, frame 28 was the one. It’s fascinating how a single image can tell an entire story, while a contact sheet reveals the full narrative.”

Self-study and experimentation are the essence of Morrison’s process, working with oil paints and spray in a Warhol-esque aesthetic. Morrison’s iconic style mimics the effects of multilayered screen printing through a street art approach with the use of stencils.

MARK “WEISSGUY” WEISS is a world-renowned photographer who has traveled the globe photographing legends from Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, and Mötley Crüe to Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, and KISS. Weiss’ inimitable photographs helped craft the visual imagery of rock and metal in the 1980s.

Q&A with Billy Morrison and Mark “Weissguy” Weiss

What inspired this collaboration of photography and art?

BILLY: As a fine art painter, there are certain rules about using images from photographers and in fact, some extremely interesting and high-profile court cases surrounding certain images. So when the opportunity was suggested to both of us by Charlie Reece (X5 Podcast) that Mark and I could close that gap between photographer and artist by doing a collaborative show, we both jumped at the chance.

MARK: When Charlie presented this opportunity to collaborate with Billy on creating new life for 12 of my classic photographs, I was ecstatic. Billy is bringing an added dimension and new appreciation to a dozen of my favorites. I spent the eighties hopping from one tour bus to another, shooting press photos and creating album covers, having a blast. Whenever I photographed a band in the ‘80s, it was like gaining a bunch of new friends. 40 years later, it feels good to get that feeling again with Billy.”

Billy—maybe you can isolate a few of the paintings and tell us your thoughts about them?

BILLY: Obviously painting my boss, Billy Idol, is quite intimidating! You don’t want to get that wrong! But Mark’s photograph of Billy during the Rebel Yell days is so iconic and so widely used, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to paint it. Tom Petty is another painting that was quite intimidating to paint, as we shared management and there are a bunch of ties between the Idol camp and the Petty camp. Finally, the Ozzy Osbourne painting obviously felt strange to do, considering my multi-decade friendship with the man, but I chose a very different and endearing shot that Mark took, Sharon has seen the finished painting and approved, and you will have to come to the show to see it!

Mark—perhaps you can give us some words about the final results of the collaboration…that is, seeing your photographs painted?

MARK: When deciding which images he would work on, we both seemed to gravitate towards the same ones. Billy’s close friendship with the Prince of Darkness makes this extra special, as Ozzy and Sharon had taken me around the world and welcomed me into their family when I was starting my career. I am looking forward to the gallery event when I, too, will see the paintings for the first time!

Your collaboration has cultural relevance, noting that photographer Lynn Goldsmith recently won her lawsuit against the Andy Warhol Estate.  So it’s terrific to know that there is a collaboration in this scenario between the photographer and the painter.  Can you share your thoughts about this?

BILLY: I completely understand that a photographer owns the copyright to that image, but I believe there are many ways that the subject of that image, as well as artists like myself, can collaborate and create more effectively with the photographer. Iconic images will always be a subject of creativity, and I believe that by teaming up with Mark, we are showing what can be achieved with co-operation, creative dialogue and a desire to share those images in different ways with the world.

BILLY MORRISON’s smash hit “Crack Cocaine”—featuring Ozzy Osbourne and Steve Stevens and co-written by all three artistshas vaulted this week into the nation’s top 10 rock Mediabase chart at #8. And there’s more firepower where that seismic collaboration comes from.

The British singer, songwriter, and guitarist has today (May 22) shared the cinematic video for “It’s Come To This.” It’s the latest single from his third solo album (and first since 2015) THE MORRISON PROJECT via TLG | ZOID | Virgin Music Group.

In the video, directed by Ivo Raza (who did the same honors for the “Crack Cocaine”), BILLY is joined by acclaimed actor Joe Manganiello whose character is a mysterious “collector of souls,” says BILLY. Watch the video, shot in the desert outside of the Lancaster/Palmdale area, HERE. It was premiered yesterday (May 21) by Revolver.

In the Q&A below, BILLY talks about the song’s origins (during the strange early days of the pandemic), the role of Joe Manganiello (“Joe just makes an imposing and scary figure on film”), and the use of a classic car (“the Shelby Mustang was loaned to me by Galpin Auto Sports”).

The rhythmically charging “It’s Come To This” was written by BILLY and Erik Eldenius and marks the third single/video from the album following Drowningand Crack Cocaine.”

Primarily known as Billy Idol’s rhythm guitar player for the past 15 years alongside lead guitarist Steve Stevens, BILLY has assembled an electrifying 12 songs on THE MORRISON PROJECT with guest performances by Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, DMC, Al Jourgensen, Steve Vai, Steve Stevens, Linda Perry, Tommy Clufetos, John5, and more.

BILLY MORRISON Q&A:
“It’s Come To This” Single/Video

What was your inspiration for writing the song? Did it have something to do with your feelings about the world around you when the Covid pandemic hit?

The pandemic was way longer than anyone expected. The political climate was volatile. There were huge financial issues being reported every day. I just found myself thinking “has it really come to this?” And fantasizing about getting in my car, leaving it all behind and heading out into the deep desert in search of a more fulfilling and perhaps spiritual answer for myself.

Can you tell us why the video was shot in the desert?

Well, most of the reason we shot in the desert is outlined above! But also, I am a huge fan of road movies like Vanishing Point, and as we honed the concept in, and Galpin Ford gave me the Shelby Mustang to use, it seemed natural that we could achieve all the elements we were talking about if we took the whole thing out into the middle of nowhere!

Actor Joe Manganiello has a role in the video. Can you fill us in on why you asked him to appear and what you needed him to portray?

So in the spirit of how this whole album came together, I wanted Joe to have an input into what was behind his character. I knew I wanted to interact with some weird, unknown origin desert dweller. He came up with the idea that he is a collector of souls. And that I was making a deal with him to deliver one particular soul in exchange for the return of mine! So that’s the box that I dig up before I had to his strange desert shack! Joe just makes an imposing and scary figure on film, so he was the first and only choice to make that cameo!

You’re seen in a classic car driving through the desert. Tell us about that experience and what you wanted to convey in those scenes.

The Shelby Mustang was loaned to me by Galpin Auto Sports, with whom I have a wonderful relationship. Thanks to Dave Shuten and Beau Boeckmann, they sent the car out to our location, and I got to drive it all day, wheel spin it around the dirt, and generally get to live out my automobile fantasy!! I guess what I am conveying is the long drive into nowhere to escape the realities of that current global situation at the time.

“I guess the way that your love makes me feel/Must mean I’m really addicted,” sings OZZY OSBOURNE on “Crack Cocaine,” the newly released track out today (March 21) from BILLY MORRISON’s new solo album THE MORRISON PROJECT that’s due April 19 via The Label Group’s partnership with TLG|ZOID through Virgin Music Group. This seismic collaboration also features STEVE STEVENS on guitar and was co-written by MORRISON, OSBOURNE, and STEVENS who all appear in the video with PARIS JACKSON playing the glamorous/romantic interest, with cameos from visual artist RISK and actor JEFF HILLIARD. Watch the video HERE, listen to the track (produced by MORRISON and STEVENS) HERE, and pre-save the album HERE.

“Crack Cocaine” marks the first new song with OZZY on vocals since the 2022 release of his worldwide smash album Patient Number 9 which earned him two Grammy Awards (“Best Rock Album,” “Best Metal Performance”). “I was in the same room as Billy and Steve,” says OZZY about co-writing the song. “The lyrics just came out of the blue.   It was written in about 20 minutes.”

BILLY—the British guitarist, singer, and songwriter primarily known as Billy Idol’s rhythm guitar player for the past 15 years alongside lead guitarist Steve Stevens—sheds more light on the song’s origins: “The music was a direct result of sitting in a room with Steve, both with de-tuned guitars, and writing what we felt was an ultimate Ozzy riff. From there, we brought Ozzy over, and we all sat around working on the lyrics, but 90% of those came from Ozzy himself. He’s the one that suddenly stood up and sang “Like Crack Cocaine”!! We looked at each other and knew we had the title!!”

Importantly, reveals STEVE, “First and foremost, Billy and I discussed what an Ozzy fan would really love to hear.  We really zeroed in on the ‘90s-era Ozzy, the truly heavy stuff. We cast aside any rules both musically and lyrically. It was really a great team and Billy is just such a great motivator. Obviously as a guitarist, to contribute to an Ozzy song is like a kid in a candy store. He’s played with such an amazing array of guitarists that I tried my best to honor that tradition.”

Adds STEVE: “I think the fact that Billy and I have spent the better part of 16 years working together in Billy Idol means we are almost telepathic in how we arrange guitars, etc. Billy and Ozzy have such an amazing friendship that it was easy to feel inspired and want to help them achieve any idea I could assist with. As we worked in my home studio, I tried to make the actual recording process almost invisible. Forget any technical aspects and really have some fun. To Ozzy’s credit, he was totally focused—and man the first time I heard him sing in what was essentially my living room, fucking chills ran down my spine.”

See more quotes from BILLY below about the track and video, directed by IVO RAZA, and filmed at various Los Angeles locations.

MORE QUOTES FROM BILLY MORRISON
ABOUT “CRACK COCAINE”

Is “Crack Cocaine” just a metaphor or is it based on any experiences with the drug?

BILLY: The song is 100% about how certain relationships can FEEL like an addiction. It’s nothing whatsoever to do with the drug! It’s a comparison. Ozzy is talking about being in that dysfunctional situation with a partner that feels so wrong, but you keep going back again and again. “Loving you is driving me insane. I put you down and pick you up again” – it’s exactly like a drug addiction.

Of all the songs you had for this album, why did you bring this one to Ozzy to finish and sing on?

BILLY: Purely based on the riff. When Steve and I wrote the music, it was clear to both of us that it was classic Ozzy – that ONLY Ozzy could sing this one. Once he threw his vocal down, it was obvious that it could never have been anyone else.

Steve is also a co-writer on the song and plays on it with you. What do you feel that Steve has added to it?

BILLY: The song would not have happened without Steve. It was a total collaboration from start to finish. We both sat together, playing riffs, and his ability to arrange those riffs into a cohesive song is fantastic. The solo is just pure classic Stevens, and we wrote and recorded it all in his studio, so he was hands on at every stage. He didn’t ADD to the song, he CREATED the song with me.

How amazing that Paris Jackson appears in the video. How did that materialize and what do you feel her presence adds to the video?

BILLY: Paris was so sweet to even agree to do the video. We wanted someone to play the woman that Ozzy is singing about, and we had a mutual friend who facilitated the introduction. I was honest with her and said that we were doing the whole thing homegrown, no huge record company budget and luckily she’s a huge rock fan and wanted to be a part of it. She brought the sense of glamour and beauty to the video that we wanted.

The British guitarist, singer, and songwriter—primarily known as Billy Idol’s rhythm guitar player for the past 15 years alongside lead guitarist Steve Stevens—says, “I drove everyone crazy with this video. First thing I said was ‘we need underwater videography because I’m going to fall into a deep swimming pool with 20lbs of weights attached. So I sink like a stone. I want you to film it! Once I had them on board with that,” he adds, “I threw in ‘oh, and we need to rent three huge cockroaches which are going to crawl all over my face’—I’m sure they all think I’m crazy, but that sense of unease in the video captures the essence of the song. Information overload. We all feel it!” The video was premiered yesterday (February 20) via Heavy Consequence which noted that the “hard-rocking tune is powered by a heavy guitar riff and Morrison’s punk-ish vocal delivery.”

Directed by Devin Szell, produced by Blue Chair Productions, and shot in Los Angeles, the “Drowning” video is “gritty, fast-paced and hectic—an attempt to illustrate what my head felt like at the time,” explains MORRISON. “I had reached a point two or three years ago where the information flow was so constant, so extreme and so polarizing to me that I couldn’t take it all in. Too much news, too many pundits and opinionated idiots. I felt like I was drowning in negativity. My previous solution was to numb out, get loaded, feel nothing, so this time I wrote the song as a cathartic way of dealing with what I was feeling at the time.”

For THE MORRISON PROJECT—his third solo album and first since 2015—he has assembled an electrifying 12 songs including guest performances by Ozzy Osbourne, Billy Idol, DMC, Al Jourgensen, Steve Vai, Steve Stevens, Linda Perry, Tommy Clufetos, John5, and more. See the track listing below.

THE MORRISON PROJECT was produced by Billy Morrison, mixed by Barry Pointer, and mastered by Dave Donnelly. All the songs on the album—recorded in Los Angeles at various studios—were written by Billy Morrison in collaboration with his guests. Read the album announcement HERE.

How did THE MORRISON PROJECT come together? “I truly believe that making music without any preconceptions or goals yields the most creative and enjoyable results. And that is exactly how this record came to life. Making music with Erik (Eldenius) and Jeordie (White) during Covid, and mixing different musical styles started my journey towards this collection of songs that ended up featuring a lot of my friends.”
