“No rules, only vibes” is the motto Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and engineer CRIS HODGES lives by when it comes to creating new music. When he’s not fronting both the acclaimed Linkin Park tribute act In The End–who’ve played stadium and festival stages across the nation in addition to appearing on several late night tv shows–and the heavy rock group Pistols At Dawn or writing music for some of the biggest blockbuster hits (Top Gun: Maverick, Baywatch), HODGES is working on music for his new solo project. On the forthcoming debut solo album, BLACK HOLE MAGIC, due October 7, HODGES combines his passion for making music that helps and inspires people with his extraordinary diverse vocal range across multiple genres from EDM, rock and metal to pop, country and blues.

Today, July 14, HODGES has revealed the new single “Devil In Charge,” with an anime music video featuring synchronized footage from the popular tv series “Jujutsu Kaisen” seen streaming below or via YouTube HERE. “Devil In Charge” will be released across all digital platforms this Friday, July 15. Equal parts self-starting entrepreneur and versatile songsmith, HODGES is a native Texan who moved to Los Angeles after responding to a Craigslist ad looking for a talented session vocalist for film and TV. There he developed his skill set as a topline specialist, vocal performer and composer, working behind the scenes with Paramount Pictures, Sony, Nickelodeon and Riptide Music Group, among others. Inspired by Boyz II Men, Michael Jackson, and Ace Of Base as a young child informed his pop sensibilities while his teenage discovery of alt-rock icons like Stone Temple Pilots and Jane’s Addiction introduced the mixture of heaviness and emotionalism that’s also become central to the music he makes today.

BLACK HOLE MAGIC showcases his fearless artistry and unique vision across 13 tracks of unashamed, unapologetic, spirited music. “Recent years have liberated people. There are no more rules, dogmas, or preconceived notions about genres,” HODGES says. “Let’s listen to whatever the hell we want to listen to if it makes us feel good.”

Hard rock/metal group THE MENDENHALL EXPERIMENT (TMX) first made waves in mainstream media in 2019 as the subject of the award-winning documentary MIND OVER MATTER (Sumerian Films) directed by French filmmaker Sébastien Paquet (Korn, Wounded Warriors). The film shared founding member BRANDON MENDENHALL’s inspirational story about how–despite being born with the incurable neurological disorder Cerebral Palsy which only allows him limited movement on his left side and zero mobility with his left hand–he learned how to play guitar at 19 which helped rehabilitate his left hand without surgical intervention despite the odds stacked against him and formed TMX. Further showcasing the healing power of music, TMX bassist Nathan Stockton overcame a disability of his own–childhood deafness–through playing.

TMX—Brandon Mendenhall (guitars), Mike Lira (lead guitars), Nathan Stockton (bass), Justin Luebeck (drums) and new vocalist Alyce Hayes—have announced their fittingly titled second EP, AGAINST ALL ODDS, will be released this fall via Lucent Records (UMG) and have shared the first listen with its debut single, “Pulse Of The Lost.” The track was produced by Chris Collier (Korn, Prong, KXM) and features Suicide Silence’s Chris Garza as a guest guitarist. The band premiered its music video—also directed by Paquet—yesterday via Metal Injection which can be seen streaming below or on YouTube HERE. “Pulse Of The Lost” will be available digitally on Friday, July 15.

“’Pulse Of The Lost’ to me is a musical representation of how society can repress into a state of darkness, and your personal choice to either live and die there or band together with those around you and rise out of it with a positive mindset,” states MENDENHALL.

HAYES adds, “The lyrics in ‘Pulse of the Lost’ are a rally cry for individuality. We don’t need to fit into some special ‘box’ of identity, and this song is a big middle finger to the people who try to do this to us. The addition of Chris Garza on guitar added a beautiful, disturbing presence that I didn’t even know the song needed. It really took the music to another level.”

“Chris Garza is one of my closest friends on this planet,” says MENDENHALL. “We share a mutual love for guitar, pizza and positive energy. Getting to work with him professionally on this song was nothing short of a learning experience in crafting and then pushing the boundaries of the sonic landscape.”

Garza described his experience working with TMX, sharing: “Once I heard the song it felt right. I ended up flying to Vegas and tracked guitars in-person with no sleep. When the time came, I drove to LA for the video shoot and injured my back but I loved the song so it was all worth it. Brandon and I have been close friends for many years. He has the passion and obsession for music that made me stoked to be a part of this song.”

TMX will celebrate the new track with a one-off show at The Forge in Joliet, IL on July 15 alongside Nonpoint. Tickets are available now HERE. Based out of Southern California, TMX have previously performed on stages with metal mainstays including John 5, P.O.D., Alien Ant Farm, Kill Devil Hill, Fear Factory, Prong, Flaw, Metal Allegiance, Smile Empty Soul and Cold in addition to key festival appearances at Aftershock Festival and Rocklahoma.

TMX released their self-titled debut EP in 2017 which included guest appearances from James “Munky” Shaffer (Korn) and Danny Lohner (NIN, A Perfect Circle). Its hit single “Seize The Day” received over 30k views and won “Video of the Year” at the 2015 LRT Music Video Awards the same year MENDENHALL was named “Trailblazer of the Year” at the United Cerebral Palsy Los Angeles Art of Care annual event.

Active rock group PISTOLS AT DAWN stand behind the powerful women in their lives with their new single, “Fly,” a powerful and dark love song. Taken from their upcoming debut studio album ASCENSION, due August 19 via Megaforce/MRI Entertainment, “Fly” will be released across digital platforms on Friday, July 15. Pre-save it HERE. The quintet shared an exclusive premiere of the single’s music video yesterday via Ghost Cult Magazine which shows the band performing in a dark, gritty venue while shining the light on the strong females that are underrepresented in the rock genre. The band commented, “We wanted to feature women as the subject of the video, not as an object. Feminine strength and girl power are themes that are very relevant at this moment and are uncharacteristic of most hard rock videos. We have a powerful love song in ‘Fly’ and our goal was to exhibit passion and feeling in a relatively unique way for our genre of music.”

PISTOLS AT DAWN deliver hard-hitting hooks, magnetic melodies and intricate instrumentation with old school arena-size ambition on ASCENSION. The album was recorded with Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System Of A Down, Johnny Cash) who praised the band’s “bright, modern, driving aggression” while lauding the album for its “angular guitars and other-wordly vocals” which “crown the super-human strength of these tracks.” The group shared the first single, “The Truth,” in June which introduced new vocalist Cris Hodges (In The End: The Premiere Linkin Park Experience). Nodding to 90’s alternatives with a personalized twist, Indie Pulse Music described it as “heavy music unafraid to push the boundaries of rock while maintaining catchy melodies and deep messages.”

Based out of Atlanta, GA, PISTOLS AT DAWN—ADAM JAFFE [drums], DEVIN WHITE [guitar], BILLY SULLIVAN [bass], TOMMY RICHARDSON [guitar] and CRIS HODGES [vocals]–were originally formed in 2015 but disintegrated after the tragic passing of guitarist Mike Buffa in 2018. OZZY OSBOURNE will make his debut at this year’s SAN DIEGO COMIC CONVENTION (Comic-Con International) on Friday, July 22. In addition, today the two revealed the alternate cover [image above] for the limited-edition cover variant of OSBOURNE’s new PATIENT NUMBER 9 (out September 9 on Epic) album with artwork by McFarlane and Jason Shawn Alexander.

This marks the latest collaboration with Grammy winner and multiple Grammy nominee McFarlane who recently directed the video for OZZY’s new single “Patient Number 9”). A special limited-edition black vinyl with the McFarlane artwork can be pre-ordered here. Leading Midwest promoter MAMMOTH, INC. has announced another new partnership, this time with industry veteran and former Live Nation exec Tommy Ginoza and his newly formed Los Angeles-based company Sugar Monkey. Additional details on the new venture will be announced in the coming months.

Ginoza got his start at Goldenvoice in 1996 and his experience includes stints at Live Nation, Universal Concerts and House of Blues Concerts. Throughout his career he’s worked with artists of all genres at venues from local clubs to arenas, as well as on North American tours.

“I have known and worked with Jeff and Josh for nearly 20+ years and we have become good friends during that time,” Tommy Ginoza says. “In my career, I’ve been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with several great people who have become great friends. I have always admired the work ethic, integrity and entrepreneurial drive of Jeff, Josh and Streigs (Sean Striegel) and I’m thrilled that I get to continue that by joining forces with them and the entire Mammoth team.”

“Tommy is a reputable talent and booking executive and an expert in the event operations field,” MAMMOTH’s Jeff Fortier says. “When he shared that he was creating his own company, Sugar Monkey, we knew this would be a great opportunity to closely work with Tommy. We’re excited to be partnering with him.”

This continues MAMMOTH’s expansion and follows the announcements of a merger with Portland, Oregon’s Mike Thrasher Presents and the opening of Mammoth Northeast headed by Sean Striegel.

Three-time Grammy-nominated, San Antonio-based rock outfit NOTHING MORE have added an extra element to their upcoming album SPIRITS, due October 14 via BETTER NOISE MUSIC with their very own “SPIRITS TEST.” Developed over recent years by front man JONNY HAWKINS, the SPIRITS TEST combines what’s been learned from similar personality tests including Myers-Briggs, The Big 5, Carl Jung and the Zodiac.

Throughout 25 questions, the SPIRITS TEST measures psychometrics of your dominant modes and perceptions to determine your “SPIRIT TYPE.” Each SPIRIT TYPE has its own personality description with correlating elements, paths and perceptions as well as symbolic characters which the band have revealed across recent releases. Today, July 8, breakthrough Mongolian rock act THE HU announced details of their long-awaited sophomore album ‘RUMBLE OF THUNDER,’ recorded via Better Noise Music, and released a new single called “Black Thunder” along with an official music video. The band’s 12-track second studio album is set for release September 2 and includes “This Is Mongol,” their eco-conscious single released in May, that now boasts over a million streams in less than two months. “Black Thunder” incorporates Mongolian values, telling a powerful story of battle, faith, and death lyrically and visually. The band has been teasing new music from their sophomore album on their headlining Black Thunder Tour, at Coachella, and soon at Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, in Australia and New Zealand, on tour with Five Finger Death Punch and Megadeth, and later in Europe and the UK – a full list of dates below. This new music was recorded in their homeland of Mongolia, after their debut album ‘The Gereg’ landed at #1 on the World Album and Top New Artist charts in its first week of release. Vocalist GALA shared, “‘Black Thunder’ is the crown jewel of our second album. The music video is split into two parts and conveys the core values of men through visuals. Our producer Dashka chose a unique location in Mongolia to shoot the video, where we had a great time riding the horses in the vast grassland of our countryside. We hope that our pride in our culture shines through, as we aimed to bring viewers joy and a piece of our culture through this video.” Speaking on their next studio album, he continued, “Our second album will include ‘Black Thunder,’ along with many new songs. We can’t wait for you to listen and enjoy it as much as we enjoyed recording it.”

THE HU’s last official video was set in the Mojave Desert and highlighted their unique core values of natural preservation and spiritual connection with the earth. The video for “Black Thunder” also features an epic backdrop, this time in Mongolia. Directed by Erdenebileg Ganbold and producer Dashka, the video is action packed, taking the viewers through battle and a funeral procession ritual. Watch the official music video HERE.

Earlier this year, THE HU impressed various media with powerful, energizing performances on their Black Thunder Tour and at Coachella, with SF Gate’s Ariana Bindman writing, “The last time I fell in love, it wasn’t with a person. It was with a seven-piece Mongolian heavy metal band belting out guttural war cries while playing Motorhead-style riffs with traditional horsehead fiddles, electric guitars and flutes. Behind me, people of all backgrounds bob their heads, raise their fists and scream in harmony. I’m watching THE HU at Coachella, the first music festival I’ve attended since the world forever changed. And they’re f—king epic.”

This summer, THE HU will hit stages across North America, as they head out on tour with Megadeth, Five Finger Death Punch, and Fire From The Gods. In 2019, an NPR story put a spotlight on “a band from Mongolia that blends the screaming guitars of heavy metal and traditional Mongolian guttural singing,” accurately highlighting the cultural importance and unique musical identity of THE HU. Founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, THE HU, Gala, Jaya, Temka, and Enkush, are a modern rock group rooted in the tradition of their homeland. The band’s two most popular videos, “Yuve Yuve” and “Wolf Totem,” were produced by the band’s producer Dashka.
