In just shy of a week, rap rock harbinger HYRO THE HERO has announced an upcoming series of shows with nu-metal outfit P.O.D., a spot on Brooklyn‘s annual Afropunk Festival, a headlining gig for the official Epicenter Festival after-show, a spot on the inaugural Rockstar Energy Drink Disrupt Festival summer tour (The Used, Thrice, Circa Survive, Sum 41), and a guest spot on the latest single from DJ and EDM producer Crankdat, “Monster.” On top of this, HYRO THE HERO recently premiered the music video for the single “Never Back Down,” which Consequence of Sound praised for having “Rage Against the Machine-like verses with a melodic chorus.”

HYRO THE HERO will kick off his busy summer on May 3 in Jacksonville, FL at Welcome To Rockville before heading to Rockingham, NC on May 10 to perform at Epicenter Festival where he’ll also headline the official afterhours show with support from Wilson and Arrested Youth. He’ll then hop on a two-week jaunt with P.O.D. from May 12 to 24 as he makes his way to Rocklahoma on May 25 before getting his gaming on as he joins Trivium and Cane Hill at DreamHack in Dallas, TX on June 1. After taking a short break, he’ll return to the road with the Rockstar Energy Drink Disrupt Festival tour from June 21 to July 28. HYRO will then wrap up the summer dates with a stop at Afropunk Festival on August 24/25. A full list of dates is provided below; tickets are available with links and on-sale dates at

Q&A WITH HYRO THE HERO, 2019

After five years following the release of your debut album Birth, School, Work, Death, you’ve come back with a new album, new label and a reinvigorated message on modern day society. What happened over that time period to bring you to where you are today?

HYRO: The time period in between now and my last album was one of growth and patience, I took some time to improve musically and let the game come to me. I dove into different genres, learned to produce, learn song structure and found ways I could bring my message to the people in the most powerful way possible. That is why Flagged Channel is so important to me, it’s the re-introduction of Hyro The Hero.

Over the past year there’s been a resurgence of bands in the ‘rap rock’ genre with up-and-coming artists including yourself, Fever 333, HO99O9, and even those like Lil Peep and Post Malone who’ve gained commercial success. While most have been likened to taking influence from Rage Against the Machine, Limp Bizkit, Korn – whose guitarist Munky guested on your album-, etc…what do you feel you bring to the table with FLAGGED CHANNEL? How do you stand out from the rest?

HYRO: It has been amazing seeing the genre grow the way it has been. I’ve been a man on a mission since the MySpace days blending the rock and rap sound. It’s what started me off back in 2005 when I was sampling sick riffs and breakdowns and rapping to them with hip hop beats on my first mixtape, Gangsta Rock.

The catalyst for my music style comes from an emotional place. My powerful words need very powerful music behind them. All of this combined with my talent of rocking the mic lyrically like no other is what separates me from the rest.
Do you feel there’s still a negative association with the term ‘rap rock’ in the public perspective? If so, why do you feel this is the case? Does that ever make you feel pressured to have to constantly elaborate or explain your music when talking to others?

HYRO: Yeah, there is still a negative connotation with it, but with all these sick bands we have now and the diverse styles of it–thatis going to change real soon. There is a coolness to it like never before which comes from influence from the trap sound that is popular in this day and age–the style bleeds over.

I’m proud to tell people about it because I know when they listen, they are gonna become instant fans.

You’ve also dabbled a bit in the EDM scene with a remix contest for your single “Bullet” and most recently you appeared on a track with Crankdat, “Monster.”  Can you share how that came about?

HYRO: My lawyer Eric German set it up! He shows me so much love and always has his ear out for stuff he knows I would be good on. Once the song was sent, I killed it and Crankdat loved it. It was dope because Crankdat would hum little ideas through voice text message so I could go in and try them out so he would have more to play with while building the track.

How do you feel that your music relates or overlaps with fans of that genre? Are you a fan of EDM music?

HYRO: It’s all energy. Once I am giving the people the energy they desire, it will translate perfectly. We are in a turn-up era, people want loud and energetic feelings. The only thing I believe is missing is true emotion in rapping today. Eminem and Tupac, for example, had that. I believe I bring that part back, so no matter what genre I take part in, it will hit the audience hard.

Everyone claims their live show is “energetic,” “insane” or “off the walls,” but your performance literally is “off the walls,” as you’re no stranger to climbing stage scaffoldings, jumping off amps, hanging off stairs and even flying off the stage itself. Can you share with us what goes through your mind when you’re on stage?

HYRO: Haha, Yea, I’m actually hurt right now. My ankle is f*cked up, but adrenaline fixes that every time I’m on stage. The thing with me is I’m spitting so much lyrics from my heart that I have no choice but to emotionally be involved in it–it’s spiritual for me and an expression I get to let out. I’m so chill in real life that people can’t believe it’s me on stage. Something takes over and my body just does what it feels.

Speaking of stages, you’ve played everything from bars and clubs to amphitheaters and huge festivals, and even a cruise ship! So, tell us… does size matter?

HYRO: Size of the place doesn’t matter to me so long as I’m in front of people. I feel blessed to rock at festivals with lots of people and blessed to be intimate with fans up close rocking small stages. Either way it goes, I want each person to feel I’m talking directly to them.
You’ve got a busy summer. You’re doing a run of dates with P.O.D.,then you’re heading out on the new Rockstar Energy Disrupt Festival and in between all that you’ll be on some of the biggest festivals like Afropunk, Welcome to Rockville, Rocklahoma, and Epicenter. How does that feel?

HYRO: Absolutely incredible, dream come true type sh*t. Words can’t begin to describe it.
What else in the works for HYRO THE HERO?

HYRO: I’m working on new music and will be focused on hitting the road this summer with all of these shows lined up. I just want to do an amazing job with my band and kill every show, all while leaving people with feeling like they got a message after seeing my set.

HYRO THE HERO refuses to slow down or back down following a highly energized sold-out performance in February in Los Angeles, CA with Nothing More and Of Mice & Men, along with a boat-rocking set on the ShipRocked Cruise earlier this year. He’s returned with a new music video for the pulverizing new single, “Never Back Down.”

Featuring his signature blend of infectious modern rock riffs overlaid with invigorating rap vocals, which Uncivil Revolt described as being “a combination between Tupac and Zack de la Rocha of Rage Against the Machine,” HYRO THE HERO stays true to himself in the video for “Never Back Down.”

HYRO further elaborates stating, “Behind the scenes was so much fun with me and my band taking on different roles and expressing the fight of keeping your integrity and not falling prey to what is hot now. I love making music and want to see it rise to the top and staying true to myself in the process, without ever backing down.”

Directed by Brian Cox of Flarelight Films (Hollywood Undead, Butcher Babies), “Never Back Down” can be seen streaming on Consequence of Sound HERE who state, “‘Never Back Down’ is aggressive throughout, showing Hyro’s love of hip-hop and rock,” or stream it directly below:

Dark folk singer/songwriter AMIGO THE DEVIL hit the road with Celtic punk outfit Dropkick Murphys this past weekend on their annual St. Patrick’s Day tour across North America alongside fellow support acts Booze & Glory and Lenny Lashley. Following the mostly sold-out month-long jaunt, AMIGO THE DEVIL will continue to bring his unique and ever-changing live set out on a series newly announced one-off dates across the U.S., including a dual night showcase with Itchy-O, before hitting the festival circuit with appearances at Sonic Temple, Welcome To Rockville, Epicenter, Punk Rock Bowling and several more. Full dates can be found listed below or at www.amigothedevil.com.
With the successful release of EVERYTHING IS FINE, the debut full-length studio album from AMIGO THE DEVIL (born under the name Danny Kiranos) last October–which entered the Billboard Americana Folk charts in the Top 30 at #27-KIRANOS has captivated listeners with his ability to make otherwise grisly lyrical content, such as serial killers and death, seem easygoing. Take for example his hit single “Hell And You,” which has amassed 1.3+ million streams on Spotify and sparked a cult movement of hundreds of fans worldwide inking its lyrics on their skin.
Possessing what LA Weekly described as “one of the most unique voices in music…a sepulchral beauty, acid wit and ingenious arrangements,” KIRANOS has launched a pre-order for the much-anticipated release of his debut EP, Volume 1, on vinyl. The vinyl will feature the EP’s 10 tracks remastered and is available for pre-order now at https://amigothedevil.indiemerch.com.

– All of the above PLUS a RARE limited-edition Fine Art Print (100 total) including 1 18″x24″ print of your choice OR all 3 18″x24″ prints hand numbered and signed by AMIGO THE DEVIL and artist Justin Pape (25 total).
AMIGO THE DEVIL recently stopped by the Bridge City Sessions studio in Portland, OR to perform four acoustic tracks including “Cocaine and Abel,” “First Day Of The End Of My Life,” “I Hope Your Husband Dies” and “One Kind of People.”

SERENADES LISTENERS WITH NEW VIDEO,
“HELL AND YOU”
U.S. TOUR WITH DROPKICK MURPHYS STARTS THIS WEEKEND, FEBRUARY 15 – MARCH 15

Credit: Amber James

Just in time for Valentine’s Day, dark folk artist AMIGO THE DEVIL sends his sentiments with a serenading video playthrough of his fan-favorite and critically acclaimed single, “Hell And You” which has amassed over 1.3 million streams on Spotify and has sparked its own cult following of sorts with hundreds of fans inking their skins with its lyrics.
Inviting you to join him for a solo performance in the grotto behind his house, AMIGO THE DEVIL entices viewers with menacing glances matching the strum of each banjo note as he croons, “I’d rot in hell with you, if you’d just ask me to.” And if you’ve ever been to an AMIGO THE DEVIL show, you can probably imagine hearing a crowd of people merrily and carefreely chanting alongside him as he continues, “I love the sh*tty things we do together, live with me in this sin forever, Hell and you.”
Watch (and sing-along at home) to “Hell And You” below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MpP-H0PQWUw
Combining elements of singer/songwriter, folk and country music with the dark and gruesome thematic of rock/metal, AMIGO THE DEVIL (born under the name Danny Kiranos) has been extensively touring the U.S. with his one man show in support of his debut full-length studio album, Everything Is Fine, which debuted at #27 on Billboard’s Americana Folk charts. You can stream and/or download the album -produced by Ross Robinson (Korn, Slipknot, Glassjaw) and featuring drummer Brad Wilk (Rage Against the Machine, Prophets of Rage)- here:

NEW YEAR’S EVE SPECTACULAR
AT THE FORUM IN LOS ANGELES

It was the place to be, and a helluva way to ring in the New Year–a mind-blowing extravaganza with the titans of heavy music delivering one spectacular set after another, complete with massive eye-popping productions. The first-ever OZZFEST New Year’s Eve celebration (Monday, December 31) at The Forum in Los Angeles was all this and more, adding up to one of the most memorable OZZFESTs ever.

The day-into-night event featured 10 hours of live music that culminated with a 90-minute career-spanning set from Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy® Award-winning singer, songwriter and festival namesake OZZY OSBOURNE. The afternoon kicked off with sets from Zakk Sabbath, DevilDriver and Wednesday 13 on the outdoor stage before moving indoors. The main stage was lit up by performances from OZZFEST alumni Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, and Jonathan Davis (of Korn)and Body Count featuring Ice-T (in their OZZFEST debut) before OSBOURNE and his band (longtime collaborators Zakk Wylde [Guitar], Blasko [Bass], Tommy Clufetos [Drums] and Adam Wakeman [Keyboards]) took to the stage at 11:30 PM, counting down to the new year with a mega mirror ball, confetti storm, fake snow blasts and huge balloon drop. The Forum will never be the same again.

Here’s some early press reaction
“Ozzy Osbourne rang in 2019 with a number of his friends as part of Ozzfest New Year’s Eve…Those friends included Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Jonathan Davis, and more…Ozzy and the crowd rang in the new year with a countdown, a giant disco ball, and confetti.”
–Heavy Consequence 1-1-19

“Ozzfest has taken many forms over the years, but on Dec.. 31, 2018 it served as a way send out 2018 with a major location-based event and ring in 2019 with some of rock and metal’s finest throwing a bash to remember. Ozzy Osbourne…returned to the concert stage at the Forum full of energy and ready to count down the final minutes of the year. But before that, a stellar lineup rocked fans inside and outdoors at the Forum during a brisk but sunny afternoon…”
–Loudwire, 1-1-19

“Ozzy Osbourne rang in the new year in Los Angeles, headlining the festival he founded, Ozzfest, at the Forum. The one-off show kicked off early, with the venue grounds transformed into a holiday wonderland complete with food trucks and an outdoor stage… Ozzy’s set included such classics as “Mama I’m Coming Home,” “Crazy Train,” and “No More Tears” as well as Black Sabbath hits “War Pigs,” and “Fairies Wear Boots.” He paused the show at a few minutes shy of midnight for the final countdown, and rang in 2019 with red fireworks and a shower of Ozzy-branded confetti.

OZZY OSBOURNE Talks About OZZFEST; Special Holiday Ticket Prices Available This Weekend

DATE:        DECEMBER 14, 2018
FROM:       MARCEE RONDAN/MITCH SCHNEIDER

OZZY OSBOURNE TALKS ABOUT…
OZZFEST
NEW YEAR’S EVE SPECTACULAR
AT THE FORUM IN LOS ANGELES
SPECIAL HOLIDAY TICKET PRICES
AVAILABLE THIS WEEKEND
WITH A LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS
AVAILABLE AT THE NEW YEAR’S EVE PRICE OF $20.19

“I feed off the crowd…I’m a conductor of craziness for the night.”
–OZZY OSBOURNE

Prior to the upcoming first-ever OZZFEST New Year’s Eve celebration, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy® Award-winning singer and songwriter OZZY OSBOURNE sat down to talk about the festival created in his name.
Q: How you do feel about working through the holidays?

OZZY: “I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO WORK THROUGH CHRISTMAS–IT’S A GOOD START TO THE NEW YEAR. OZZFEST AT THE FORUM, NEW YEAR’S EVE, WITH US, TWO STAGES WITH MANSON, ROB ZOMBIE, ZAKK SABBATH, ICE T, A BUNCH OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE.”

Q: This year’s line-up features a lot of Ozzfest alumni.

OZZY: “YEAH, THAT’S THE BEAUTY OF IT, IT’S KIND OF LIKE THE ALL-STARS OF OZZFEST. THAT’S ONE THING I’M REALLY PROUD OF BECAUSE OF HOW THIS ALL STARTED. MANY YEARS AGO WHEN WE TRIED TO GO ON LOLLAPALOOZA AND THEY SAID WE DON’T HAVE ENOUGH SPACE FOR OZZY AND THIS KIND OF MUSIC. SO, WE TOOK A CHANCE AND DID IT ALL OUR OWN AND IT TOOK OFF. AND HERE WE ARE, TWENTY-ONE YEARS LATER. MY GOD.”

Q: There seems to be a real camaraderie among the hard rock world.

OZZY: “YOU KNOW PEOPLE LOOK AT HEAVY METAL GUYS AND THEY THINK ‘OH, THEY’RE BAD PEOPLE.’ BUT WE’RE REALLY NOT. I MEAN, IF SOMETHING BAD HAPPENS, I’LL GET PHONE CALLS ‘ARE YOU OKAY? DO YOU NEED ANY HELP?’ THIS GOES BACK YEARS TO EVEN WHEN RANDY GOT KILLED. I RECENTLY CONTACTED JONATHAN [DAVIS] AFTER HIS WIFE PASSED AWAY, IT MEANS A LOT TO SUPPORT EACH OTHER.”

Q: Let’s talk a little bit about Zakk and what it’s like having him back out with you. On OZZFEST, he’ll be pulling double-duty, performing on the second stage with Zakk Sabbath and then with you for the final set of the night.

OZZY: “IT’S GOOD TO HAVE HIM BACK. ZAKK’S LIKE A MEMBER OF MY FAMILY AND IT’S A JOY TO WORK WITH HIM NOW THAT WE’RE BOTH SOBER. YOU KNOW, HE’S THE LONGEST PLAYER–GUITAR PLAYER–I’VE EVER HAD BOTH WITH SABBATH AND MY SOLO GIG.’

Q: What are you looking forward to with Ozzfest this year?

OZZY: “I WANNA GIVE THEM A GREAT SHOW, I WANNA HAVE FUN. I MEAN, I’M BRINGING THE NEW YEAR IN WITH A BIG BANG!”

Q: And you’ll be onstage when the New Year rings in?

OZZY: “YEAH. I GOT TO TIME IT, BECAUSE WHEN YOU REHEARSE, YOU KNOW, I’LL PLAY THROUGH SONGS. BUT THEN WHEN YOU GO ON STAGE, YOU START TO JUST GO WITH IT. WE’VE GOT TO TIME IT SO WE CAN STOP FOR THE COUNTDOWN.”

Set for Monday, December 31 at The Forum in Los Angeles, OZZFEST will kick off 10 hours of live music at 2:30 PM with sets from Zakk Sabbath, Devildriver and Wednesday 13 on the outdoor stage. Everything shifts indoors at 6:00 PM, where OZZFEST alumni Rob Zombie, Marilyn Manson, and Jonathan Davis (of Korn) and Body Count featuring Ice-T (in their OZZFEST debut) will take the stage. The night will conclude with a performance from festival namesake OZZY OSBOURNE, who will count down to the new year!

Tickets for the Live Nation-produced OZZFEST 2018 are on sale now here.

Special holiday ticket prices runs from Friday, December 14 at 10:00 AM (PT) through Sunday, December 16 at 10:00 PM (PT), with a limited number of tickets available at the New Year’s Eve price of $20.19.

THE THE launched their North American tour, their first in 18 years, last Friday (9/17) in Boston, hit New York for two shows (at the sold-out Brooklyn Steel and the Beacon Theatre) and then Toronto, receiving media and fan praise along the way. The nine-date headlining tour stops next in Detroit (sold-out) and Chicago (sold-out) before reaching the West Coast for its two Los Angeles shows and final date in San Francisco on Thursday, September 27. All remaining dates feature special guest Agnes Obel. See below for remaining tour dates and film screenings and initial critical feedback.

Alongside Johnson, the full band lineup for the outing features a member from each of the three previous THE THE world tours: James Eller on bass (representing the ‘Versus The World’ tour), DC Collard on keyboards (representing the ‘Lonely Planet’ tour) and Earl Harvin on drums (representing the ‘Naked’ tour). They are joined by ‘new’ member Barrie Cadogan on guitar, who has played with his own band Little Barrie as well as Primal Scream, Edwyn Collins, Thee Hypnotics, Damo Suzuki, Spiritualized and The Chemical Brothers among others. A tour trailer, with footage from THE THE‘s sold-out show at London’s Royal Albert Hall this past June, can be viewed here.

Here’s what the media is already saying about THE THE’s North American tour dates:

The current lineup of The The, who are genuinely shit hot, are almost like a more pared-down Bad Seeds, with Matt [Johnson] noting they don’t use sequencers, laptops or in-ear monitors…a terrific night…Matt, who was in great voice and spirits, told lots of stories, many of which were about New York City where he lived for many years.”
Brooklyn Vegan (Brooklyn), September 17, 2018

“What held constant throughout was Johnson’s emotive baritone, seemingly unchanged by age. Warm and welcoming, it provided the through note–the recognizable soul of the band. As images of Thatcher-era riots flashed on screen, Johnson’s instrument, as much as those scenes of a world gone awry, brought us full circle once again, with a soundtrack to match.”
-Clea Simon, Art Fuse (Boston), September 16, 2018

“The The played a show that was deeply political, uniting and inspiring [for] the audience. They opened with ‘Global Eyes,’ and lead singer Matt Johnson’s unmistakable voice encircled the crowd and wrapped them up with the lyrics ‘Mobilize, globalize, hypnotize, homogenize.’”
-Lauren Doyle, MXDWN (Brooklyn), September 17, 2018
