Nashville-based singer-songwriter and musician J.D. HUGGINS showcases his vibrant combination of Southern blues and dirty alternative rock on the single “Life I Lead” taken from his debut solo album HEAD FULL OF MONSTERS released in July via Struggle Jennings’ Angels & Outlaws record label. Today, August 3, J.D. has revealed a music video for the track which was recorded in Ashland City, TN with director Alisa Daglio (Body Count, Yelawolf). “I really wanted to do a music video with a story line and have family and friends play the roles,” shares J.D. “I always thought that would be fun and also rewarding for them to experience how it worked and get the opportunity to be involved. In the ‘Life I Lead’ music video I was able to have my niece, Jaylee Grace, and my son, Owen in it. I also had my brother in-law and some dear friends come be a part of it.”

He further went on to share background on the video’s location and concept stating: “We shot this music video on an old property out in Ashland City, TN. The property had the same vibe as my upbringing in the Appalachians mountains, making it the perfect spot to shoot a song about that region. The details of the video aren’t a reflection of my childhood but more or less a dark twist on how it can be back in the mountains. I have always loved dark story lines and unexpected twists in music videos and movies, so this seemed like a perfect song to accomplish that.”

HUGGINS was raised in the Appalachian Mountains in a small town in Georgia where he spent his time fishing, hunting, camping and teaching himself how to play the guitar. Born into a musical family, he began songwriting at an early age taking influence from his surroundings. He then moved to Nashville to front the southern rock band Heathen Sons who released two full-length albums and an EP and received notoriety for their single “Temporary Queen” which was featured on the hit ABC television show “Blood & Oil.” Before disbanding in 2019, the band was on the road performing with acts including Whiskey Myers, Turnpike Troubadours, The Cadillac Three, Nikki Lane, Will Hoge, Leah Blevins and Goodbye June as well as appearing at Whiskey Jam and SXSW.

In anticipation of the forthcoming cinematic release of BETTER NOISE FILMS’ new horror-thriller THE RETALIATORS worldwide release on September 14, BETTER NOISE MUSIC has released the movie’s theme song across digital platforms today (August 5) along with a music video featuring clips from the film. “The Retaliators Theme Song (21 Bullets)” co-written by Nikki Sixx and James Michael of Sixx:A.M., features MÖTLEY CRÜE, ASKING ALEXANDRIA, ICE NINE KILLS, and FROM ASHES TO NEW and is featured on THE RETALIATORS ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK due out September 16 via Better Noise Music. “Writing a new theme song for a horror flick was inspiring,” says Sixx. “This was my first time writing for a horror-thriller film, and it took me in a different direction from the first theme song I wrote – ‘The Dirt (1981)’ by Mötley Crüe. I worked with some great new artists to create a new sound that will stretch Mötley Crüe’s audience to new fans. I had a great time writing it, and I think our fans will love it too!”

“I always think like a singer when I play a Sting melody,” says acoustic guitarist extraordinaire TOMMY EMMANUEL, who today (August 4) releases his video for “Fields of Gold,” an all-instrumental cover of the Sting gem he recorded with British acoustic guitar virtuoso Mike Dawes. The song is featured on the upcoming five-song EP from TOMMY with Dawes, ACCOMPLICE SERIES VOL. 3, due out September 23 on CGP SOUNDS. “Fields of Gold” was premiered yesterday by Glide Magazine, which wrote: “Fearless fingerstyle guitarist Tommy Emmanuel certainly has an almost supernatural ability to create a cinematic substance with the most abbreviated musical setups. Yet the man and his acoustic, continue to set a bar that very few have approached…the duo’s reimagination of Sting’s “Fields of Gold” (below) a colorful take where a breezy soul elevates this nostalgic yet melancholy tune to imaginative double melodies.”

TOMMY and Mike joined forces last year to record and release their interpretation of Goyte’s 2011 hit “Somebody That I Used To Know” (described by Guitar Player as “spellbinding,” 6/24/21) and followed it with their cover of Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” of which Guitar World noted: “the acoustic virtuoso duo combine powers to rework the era-defining grunge anthem, with spectacular results” (6/23/22)

Both artists also light up the EP with their stirring all-instrumental reworkings of “Slow Dancing In a Burning Room” (John Mayer) and “Be My Mistake” (The 1975), alongside “Somebody That I Used To Know,” “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” and “Fields of Gold.”

“Playing this masterpiece with Mike is always fun and emotional…a simple repetitive melody with a slowly building arrangement that becomes powerful,” says TOMMY about “Fields of Gold.” Mike explains that “’Fields’ was Tommy’s idea based on his own arrangement from the ‘Can’t Get Enough’ record [Tommy’s 1996 album]. I wanted to hold down something of a strict rhythm and backbeat for this one. The result is a mid-tempo homage to the classic Sting song. This was recorded in a single take by Marc DeSisto. I’m playing in DADGAD tuning whilst Tommy is in standard tuning. I particularly like the different tones on our guitars on this one. Tommy’s bright flatpicked Maton soars over my fingerpicked Indian Rose Cuntz guitar. This was very important in a tune with doubled melodies.”

TOMMY and his special guest Mike, who’ve toured together in the past including this past January’s run, will do so again in the U.S. starting in December 2022. The dates follow below and most shows are on sale now.

TOMMY EMMANUEL has achieved enough musical milestones to satisfy several lifetimes. At the age of six, he was touring regional Australia with his family band. By 30, he was a rock n’ roll lead guitarist burning up stadiums in Europe. At 44, he became one of five people ever named a CPG (Certified Guitar Player) by his idol, music icon Chet Atkins. What started as a meme created by Modern Day Escape bassist and songwriter William Wenz about hosting a festival in a Denny’s parking lot turned to reality as he created the WHEN WE WERE HUNGRY FESTIVAL alongside co-founder/director and artist manager Mal Levy.

The inaugural event will take place in Las Vegas, NV on Thursday, October 20 and Friday, October 21 at the 3,000-capacity venue Rockstar Bar – Concert On The Green. The festival will highlight independent-focused acts that represent a who’s-who of the past and present rock, metal, punk and emo scene. The 2022 lineup will include headlining performances from punk rock icons Black Flag, legendary NY hardcore group Madball, emo rockers Secondhand Serenade and pop punk band Every Avenue plus more than 50 bands across two outdoor stages and one indoor stage over both days. Following each day of the festival, there will be an official afterparty indoors in collaboration with Come As You Are Events with guest DJ sets and surprise performances from musicians including Social Order, Chris Donothon (The Medic Droid), Alesana and Michael Vampire (Vampires Everywhere). Off-Strip Italian Eatery Limoncello Is A True Italian Find

There are so many top-shelf Italian restaurants all over Vegas—Al Solito Posto (Tivoli Village), Don Vito’s (Southpoint Hotel), Esther’s Kitchen (Arts District), Aromi (Summerlin North) + Allegro (Wynn Hotel). There’s also the hip + subtly elegant Limoncello on west Sahara; its sprawling four-room interior, huge ceiling and fish market-style seafood display instantly captivate.

Every time we’ve been there (at least five since it opened in November 2019), the food is finely prepared—and it’s soulful too, thanks to Executive Chef Eric Gaitan from NYC. The eatery hit another home run last Friday night when we dined there with friends. Each entree more than delivered the goods—Homemade Lobster Ravioli (with a light brandy sauce), Pappardelle Bolognese, Penne Vodka + Pollo Parmigiana. Limoncello gets it right every time.

We ended the meal on a sweet note—the Tiramisu + Crème Brûlée were both dreamy—and headed out into the summer Vegas rain, which definitely felt oddly wonderful to former Angelenos like us.

Japanese breakout metal outfit SiM (Silence iz Mine) are known across the globe for their distinctive blend of hardcore punk, alternative/nu metal, reggae and ska which they’ve showcased with sold-out headlining arena shows and large rock festival stages throughout East Asia since their formation in 2004. The four-piece are excited to announce their return to the U.S. for the first time in six years following their first-ever and only appearance in North America at Knotfest in 2016. The band will headline the New Crunchy City Music Fest at thes annual three-day anime fan convention Crunchyroll Expo on Saturday, August 6 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, CA before making their way to Los Angeles for a sold-out headlining show at Echoplex on Tuesday, August 9.

“The Rumbling is coming!” exclaims vocalist MAH. “We can’t wait to perform live shows in your country for the first time in 6 years…it’s gonna be a blast!! See you in the pit.”

SiM’s record-shattering recent single “The Rumbling” was released this past January via Pony Canyon along with the news of it being the opening theme for the popular anime series “Attack On Titan: The Final Season Part 2”–the first-ever non-English language series to earn the title of “World’s Most In-Demand TV Show,” previously held by only “The Walking Dead” and “Game of Thrones.” It debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Hot Hard Rock Songs, #2 on Hard Rock Digital Song Sales, #5 on Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles and #13 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. SiM was founded by MAH in 2004 in Shonan, Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan. The band’s current lineup is rounded out with SHOW-HATE on guitar, SIN on bass and GODRi on drums. The band were nominated for “Independent Artist of the Year” in 2013 at the Billboard Japan Music Awards and to date have released three EPs, five full-length albums, including their most recent 2020 effort Thank God, There Are Hundreds Of Ways To Kill Enemies via Universal Music Japan, and six live concert DVDs. SiM announced their signing to Pony Canyon record label in January following the release of “The Rumbling.” The band are currently working on their next EP due in September. Three-time Grammy-nominated rock outfit NOTHING MORE have released an extended version of their current Top 10 Billboard Active Rock charting hit single “TIRED OF WINNING” (#8) due to popular demand. The extended version “TIRED OF WINNING / SHIPS IN THE NIGHT” is out today, July 29, across digital platforms HERE. The extended track is taken from their upcoming album SPIRITS due October 14 via Better Noise Music and was first revealed in the group’s sci-fi oriented music video (seen here) released in April. It garnered immediate attention from fans requesting the extended version also be released digitally. “TIRED OF WINNING / SHIPS IN THE NIGHT” will also be featured on the official soundtrack for the upcoming Better Noise Films horror-thriller movie THE RETALIATORS in cinemas worldwide on September 14. THE RETALIATORS OFFICIAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK will be released via Better Noise Music on September 16 and includes tracks from labelmates including Motley Crue, Tommy Lee, Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch and more.

NOTHING MORE are also excited to share they have partnered with Z2 Comics (The Doors, Machine Gun Kelly, The Grateful Dead) to release their first-ever graphic novel “SPIRITS VOL.1” authored by Dan Watters (Cowboy Bebop, Arkham City: The Order of The World) and illustrated by Christian Rosado. The graphic novel will be released in Spring 2023 and be available in a standard edition hardcover, a deluxe edition oversized hardcover, a limited deluxe edition oversized hardcover hand-signed by band (999 copies total) and a special tour-only softcover only available for purchase in-person at NOTHING MORE shows or directly via their website.

The band recently unveiled their own meta-personality test, “SPIRITS TEST,” developed by frontman JONNY HAWKINS, which features 25 psychometric questions then determines your “SPIRIT TYPE.” Each SPIRIT TYPE has its own character and personality descriptions which are further explored in the upcoming graphic novel. Deluxe edition bundles for “SPIRITS VOL. 1” will highlight the SPIRIT TYPES with bundles including SPIRITS art prints, cards, an Eight-Sided Nothing More Spirits Octahedron, SPIRITS enamel pin, an exclusive color variant SPIRITS vinyl and more.

HAWKINS explains more on the “SPIRITS TEST” and “SPIRIT TYPES”:
“The comic book focuses on four of the Spirit Types. As we were making the album, I came up with the concept for the Spirits Test. Imagine if the zodiac had a baby with the Meyers Briggs personality test, and that baby came out with a fascination with cryptic iconography and metal music… that is this test. Each of us has a Spirit Type and this comic book is an artistic expression of how those Spirit Types come to life in a world very much like our own.

Guitarist MARK VOLLELUNGA shares how the idea for a graphic novel developed:
“I set forth on this collaboration with Z2 comics, and our manager, Will Hoffman, with the idea to expand the NOTHING MORE world and allow the reader to dive deeper down the rabbit hole and elaborate on what these Spirit Types mean; where they came from and why they exist. We wanted to write stories that invoke a compelling sense of empathy and wonder while maintaining a very personal connection to NOTHING MORE songs. Dan Watters was the perfect dude for the job. He’s such a brilliant, captivating writer. Both of us shared inspiration from shows like The OA and Sense 8 and we wanted to accentuate the differences all people have when something in your life wrecks you… and that even though these differences may seem polarizing, we all still need each other. It’s because of these differences that you learn to survive and grow. This story shows that great strength and mutual respect come to those who learn how to embrace one another despite such differences.”

OZZY OSBOURNE made his SDCC debut this past Friday (July 22) setting a record for the largest signing of the year on the convention room floor (with fans lined up for hours) at the annual event when he teamed up with collaborator Todd McFarlane at the Stern Pinball/Rebellion Republic booth at the sold-out convention. Prior to the signing, the two revealed the artwork for the McFarlane-designed comic book (available in limited edition album packages, with details on all pre-orders here) before signing a poster of the McFarlane album artwork.

Friday also marked the release of “Degradation Rules” (featuring Tony Iommi), the second single from OZZY’s upcoming album PATIENT NUMBER 9 out September 9. The song marks the first time that Black Sabbath co-founder, guitarist, and riff-master Tony Iommi appears on an OZZY solo album. Revolver noted that the single–written by OZZY with Andrew Watt, Robert Trujillo and Chad Smith–features “Iommi’s signature heavy riffery and even some wailing harmonica [by Ozzy] hearkening back to classic Sabbath” (7/22), while Guitar World praised the “gargantuan power chord electric guitar riff that could only come from the mind of Tony Iommi, and a face-melting wah-flavored solo” (7/22). “Degradation Rules” follows the album’s first single, the album’s title track which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s “Hot Hard Rock Songs” chart which also topped the “Hard Rock Digital Song Sales” charts. “PATIENT NUMBER 9” [feat. Jeff Beck] remains the #1 rock song in the country this week.

PATIENT NUMBER 9 is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy®-winning singer and songwriter OSBOURNE’s new album and the first since his critically acclaimed, worldwide, chart-topping 2020 ORDINARY MAN release. Produced by Andrew Watt (who handled the same duties on ORDINARY MAN), the new album marks OSBOURNE’s 13^th solo studio album. It’s heavy, it’s hard-hitting, it’s historic–it’s everything you’d want from an OZZY OSBOURNE record and maybe more. Working with producer Watt for the second time, OZZY welcomed a dynamic A-list featured guests. The record boasts guitarists Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, and longstanding righthand man and six-string beast Zakk Wylde who plays on the majority of the tracks. For the bulk of the album, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers held down drums, while the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters appears on three songs. Old friend and one-time OZZY band member Robert Trujillo of Metallica plays bass on most of the album’s tracks, with Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses and Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction supplying bass on a few songs.
