Look for emo rock outfit THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT to release their second full-length album GREETINGS FROM SUFFOCATE CITY via Better Noise Music on September 13. The album’s story arc is told across its 14 tracks (see listing below) which blends religious and violent imagery. It’s a thrilling and evocative mix of the holy and unholy, the sacred and sacrilege. Guest appearances include Bert McCracken of The Used, Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills, Danny Worsnop of Asking Alexandria and Eva Under Fire. “This album is a statement,” says vocalist LEE JENNINGS. “Its title reflects our conviction, respect, and most importantly, DEVOTION to its message. This record talks of love and loss. That the people we love, the passions we dedicate ourselves to, the culture we are surrounded by, and the society we partake in, will all inevitably hurt us. Yet through the pain and struggle of it all,” he adds, “we still choose to love, unabashedly, even when it kills us. It is a warning of the challenges life will present us all with and a universal truth that suffering is inherent in all joy.”

THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT today, August 2, have released a new industrial-tinged track, “Blood Mother.” JENNINGS says, “This southern-fried riff machine brings a low, pulsing energy to the record. It harks on modern medication and the fear of risking losing your personality and sense of self once prescribed.” The music video for “Blood Mother” can be seen streaming below, or via YouTube HERE. The track’s release marks the start of their U.S. tour supporting Five Finger Death Punch, Marilyn Manson, and Slaughter To Prevail in Hershey, PA. The tour will stretch until September 19 ending in Houston, TX. Next, the band head to Louisville, KY for Louder Than Life (September 28), followed by Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, CA (October 12). Throughout the tour the band will also appear on a handful of one-off shows with Marilyn Manson and Slaughter To Prevail. In addition, the band have announced a special “double feature” night on August 6 in Detroit, Mitch. It consists of a free in-store performance at Rock of Ages from 5-7 PM, followed by a private ghost hunt with the band at Eloise Asylum in Westland, MI starting at 8pm. As of August 2024, FINGER ELEVEN have officially crossed 1 billion overall career streams, averaging 5 million streams per week and therefore securing their status as one of the best-selling Canadian bands of all time.

To celebrate, FINGER ELEVEN have released a brand-new single “Adrenaline,” available today (August 2) digitally. Stream/download it now HERE. Both hard-hitting and musically adventurous, the anthemic track about the thrill of being alive is the first sample of material from the band’s upcoming 2025 album and debut release following their signing to Better Noise Music. The music video for “Adrenaline” will be released later this month on August 23.

“Sonically, I think ‘Adrenaline’ showcases a different side of the band,” says lead vocalist Scott Anderson. “There’s an exciting pulse in the music and I wanted the lyrics to keep up with that same energetic level. The song makes me want to go out and try something wild, or at the very least: turn it up real loud.”

FINGER ELEVEN are currently on tour across North America as direct support to rock icons Creed on their “Summer of ‘99” tour which features additional interchanging support from Three Doors Down, Daughtry, Switchfoot, Tonic, and Big Wreck. Finger Eleven is an alternative rock band originally from Burlington, Ontario and now based mostly out of Toronto. ABOUT TENNESSEE JET

Long before Tennessee Jet began crisscrossing America as a one-man band, playing nightly shows full of fuzz guitar, primal percussion, and songs that split the difference between country and raw rock & roll, he traveled the interstates of Oklahoma with his bronc-riding father and barrel-racing mother. Sitting on the bench seat of an old Ford pickup truck pulling a horse trailer while heading to the next rodeo, he’d watch the grasslands of his home state fly past the windshield at highway speed. Country music was always on the radio back then, and those songs — honest, heartfelt classics by icons like Willie Nelson and Dwight Yoakam, both of whom he’d eventually join on tour — left a permanent mark. The Country, Tennessee Jet’s third album, nods to that childhood soundtrack. A salute to the sounds of his youth, these songs double down on Jet’s country and folk influences, without sacrificing the left-of-center approach that’s earned him a reputation as a genre bender. Honky-tonk ballads, twin fiddles, and country two-steps rub shoulders with a Nirvana-inspired rock song (“Johnny,” a tribute to 1950s legend Johnny Horton) and a bluegrass cover of the Black Crowes’ “She Talks to Angels.” The result is a richly textured album that’s both classic and modern in the same breath. This is raw, truthful country music — a reinvention of the sound that’s always formed the bedrock of Tennessee Jet’s artistry, even during his most amplified moments.

“My career has been a constant purging of what I’ve done before, so I can reinvent and create something that’s uniquely me,” says Jet, who kicked off his touring career by taking the stage alone, an electric guitar strapped across his chest and a drum set at his feet, accompanying himself with a one-man fuzz-filled wall of sound. It was an approach that owed as much to rock & roll’s distorted stomp as country music’s twang, and for Jet — an enthusiastic fan of Neil Young and Jack White, two forward-thinking rockers who, like Jet, refuse to be pigeonholed — the contrast between those genres was the whole point.

The Country marks the most collaborative project of Jet’s career. A songwriter, front man, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, he took a do-it-yourself approach to his 2015 debut and 2017’s Reata, both of which found Jet playing every instrument himself. The Country references those early years with songs like the autobiographical “Stray Dogs,” whose lyrics find a young Jet speeding down the Indian Nation Turnpike, his future wife riding shotgun, fueled by a combination of love, truck stop gasoline, and the need to make it to the next show on time. For an album that often pays homage to Jet’s DIY past, though, The Country also finds him teaming up with Dwight Yoakam’s touring band, whose members add Telecaster twang and Cali-country cool to Jet’s raw, ragged edges. Paul Cauthen, Cody Jinks, and Elizabeth Cook all lend a hand, too, duetting with Jet on their respective tracks while also teaming up for an all-hands-on-deck version of “Pancho and Lefty.” Additional guests include longtime Willie Nelson bandmate Mickey Raphael who lends harmonica as well as Lady Gaga bandleader Brian Newman on trumpet.

While The Country may be stocked with star power from the alt-country fringes, it’s Tennessee Jet who shines the brightest. A lifelong explorer who literally grew up on the road, he writes about love, loss, legends, and the pursuit of the muse in a voice that’s at once worldly and distinctly Oklahoman, peppering his lyrics with references to other literary heroes who, like him, shine at showcasing a sense of place: Faulkner, Shakespeare, Kerouac, and Woody Guthrie. Co-produced by the songwriter himself, The Country finds Tennessee Jet occupying his own sort of artistic crossroads, planting one boot in the nostalgic sounds of his past while pointing the other in a direction of his own making. This is his version of country music — a sound that, in Jet’s hands, becomes both fresh and familiar.

Chad Freeman & Redline, established on March 13, 2009, swiftly cultivated a unique sound that resonated locally and beyond. ABOUT GRAHAM BARHAM

Graham Barham, originally from the quiet Louisiana village of Oak Ridge with just 124 residents, brings a distinctive Southern charm to his music. Alternative pop visionary GIA FORD has announced her much-anticipated debut album TRANSPARENT THINGS out September 13 via Chrysalis Records. Recorded in Los Angeles at the renowned Sound City Studios with legendary producer Tony Berg (Phoebe Bridgers’ Stranger in the Alps and Punisher), TRANSPARENT THINGS is an immersive collection that showcases GIA’s ability to craft songs like no other artist of her generation. For GIA, those figures on the fringes of society are by far the most fascinating. Her songs tell the stories of the downtrodden to the downright dangerous. And through them, we begin to hear familiar, uncomfortable truths about ourselves. The theme of alienation runs through the album.

“Most of the characters in these songs are outcasts, all with unique ways of feeling on the periphery, somehow,” GIA says. While each song operates in its own realm, their subject matters create a throughline of eccentricity that turns TRANSPARENT THINGS into an odyssey of outcasts.

“Thematically it has a mythical quality, stemming from the repeated references to creatures, ghosts and undefined spirits. It’s a world of its own, where the characters have more in common than I initially thought was possible.”

Arguably no song better encapsulates the character of “the other” than the newly released single “Paint Me Like a Woman.’” The song is from the perspective of a woman who feels herself morphing into the villain as a result of abuse and mistreatment at the hands of all the men in her life.

GIA explains: “It is a look inside her mind as she feels herself drifting away from who she really is; allowing her rage to weave itself into the fabric of her being. It’s a comment on how we hurt each other, how we change each other, and a question: who gets punished for this terrible nature we have all, to varying degrees, embodied?”

Grammy Award-winning acoustic guitarist Tommy Emmanuel and Grammy Award-winning bluegrass fiddler Michael Cleveland joined together on July 10 to help kick off the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society’s four-day annual event that was held at the Music City Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville. Emmanuel and Cleveland appeared together onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, performing “Mr. Guitar,” their collaborative track on the current and critically acclaimed Chet Atkins tribute album, WE STILL CAN’T SAY GOOD BYE—A Musicians’ Tribute To Chet Atkins. Both the show and CAAS event honored the legendary music icon and guitar great’s 100^th anniversary celebration.

Released April 19 on the Morningstar Music Productions label, the album features 15 tracks and 22 artists from the country, rock, bluegrass and acoustic musical realms. Conceived and produced by the legendary 3-time Grammy-winning, bluegrass and country songwriter, producer and guitarist Carl Jackson, the album contains some of the world’s best artists and guitar players including Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, Tommy Emmanuel C.G.P., Ricky Skaggs, James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley, Sierra Hull, and many more. Morningstar Music Productions was created by executive producers and longtime great friends Rodger Glaspey and Ken Leister. The two partners performed in groups that recorded albums during the 70’s as collegians during the Folk/Rock invasion.
