5X Platinum-selling and Juno Award-winning rock outfit FINGER ELEVEN have announced their signing to the premiere independent music label Better Noise Music (whose roster includes Five Finger Death Punch, Asking Alexandria, Bad Wolves, Nothing More, and From Ashes To New). With 958 million career streams and over 157 million all-time video views, FINGER ELEVEN lead the way as one of the best-selling Canadian bands of all time. They’ve just announced a new album due in 2025 and will release its first track, “Adrenaline,” on Friday, August 2. Listen to a 30-second teaser HERE. Pre-save “Adrenaline” now at https://fingereleven.ffm.to/adrenaline.

FINGER ELEVENScott Anderson (vocals), James Black (lead guitar, backing vocals), Rick Jackett (rhythm guitar), Sean Anderson (bass), and Steve Molella (drums)—will join rock legends Creed as direct support on their “Summer of ‘99” tour starting tonight, July 17, in Green Bay, WI. The tour stretches until September 28 in Atlantic City, NJ and features interchanging support from Three Doors Down, Daughtry, Switchfoot, Tonic, and Big Wreck. They will also make an appearance at Louder Than Life festival in Louisville, KY on September 27. Tickets are on sale now HERE. See dates listed below.

“I’m proud to announce that Finger Eleven has partnered up with Better Noise Music,” exclaims vocalist Scott Anderson. “The digital ink is nearly dry, and we couldn’t be more excited about this new team. Our new single ‘Adrenaline’ will be released while we are out on the road with Creed for the whole dang summer.  A new album is on the horizon, and so is our tour bus. See you out there!”

“As experiences go, signing Finger Eleven backstage on a Latvian NATO base after they just played to a squadron of Canadian military is one that’ll I’ll never forget (see picture),” shares Better Noise Music CEO Dan Waite. “It is also an appropriate analogy, as at Better Noise Music we will combine forces to bring their music to the world through our global staff and offices, from Australia to Toronto. We’ll be working them hard at radio and streaming and using our skills in artist development to expand their already large audience. ‘Adrenaline’ is an appropriate first song for us, as the whole team including Managers Dave Morris and Zeke Myers are pumped up for the new music which they will be debuting on their USA Tour with Creed.”

We are incredibly psyched to have F11 join the Better Noise family,” says Better Noise Music President/COO Steve Kline. The music from their new album is next level and we can’t wait to start the rollout around this massive tour. The initial response from our partners has been overwhelmingly positive. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it!

HARDCASTLE

“A million eyes watching, judging me
So tell me why I’m losing sleep, no dreaming
Anxious thoughts come creeping
All the time
Can anybody rescue me?”
“Paranoiac” lyrics

Post indie rock outfit HARDCASTLE blend compelling melodies, introspective lyrics, and passion on their upcoming EP CIRCUIT due September 13 via MNRK / Liminal Records. CIRCUIT was produced by Oscar, Golden Globe and multiple Grammy Award-winning producer Rob Cavallo (Green Day, Goo Goo Dolls, My Chemical Romance) with mastering completed by Howie Weinberg (U2, Smashing Pumpkins) and mixing from Mark Needham (The Killers, Imagine Dragons).

HARDCASTLE will release CIRCUIT’s second track—the urgent and dark anthem “Paranoiac”—this Friday, July 12, across digital platforms; pre-save it HERE. The song was recorded with guitarist Tim Pierce (Shinedown, Bon Jovi) who also lent his guitar skills on several other tracks throughout the EP. HARDCASTLE have today (July 11) shared its mind-altering music video which was co-directed by founding member, songwriter, vocalist, and guitarist Graham Laderman. Watch the “Paranoiac” music video now via the band’s YouTube HERE or streaming below.

CIRCUIT chronicles the highs and lows of LADERMAN’s musical journey capturing dark subjects such as mental health struggles and toxic relationships as well as sharing his story of healing, self-discovery, and evolving dreams into reality. HARDCASTLE was originally formed in Nashville in 2018 and saw the band release a series of tracks including hit singles “Mundane” and “Back To You” which combined accumulated over 10 million streams to date and a sold-out tour across the U.S. opening for The Band Camino in 2019. In 2020, Covid hit and its impact forced the dissolution of the band and led to LADERMAN relocating to LA to try to figure out a new path. Shortly after arriving, he was connected with Rob and Lisa Cavallo at Done Deal Management and reformed HARDCASTLE with a refreshed line-up and authentic sound.

HARDCASTLE released the first sample of new music in May with the emotionally gripping and sonically massive “Hostage” and celebrated its release with a sold-out show at Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles alongside Levi Evans. “Hardcastle play indie rock at its finest and most compelling,” said Highwire Daze of the show. “Graham Laderman is such a dynamic, expressive front man who really knows how to bring the listener into his very relatable world of thoughtful, empowering lyrics.” HARDCASTLE will next perform as headliners at the famed Viper Room on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, CA on September 20 following the release of CIRCUIT.

LAURA PURSELL’s New Video And Cover Of “Ode To Billy Joe” – The Bobbie Gentry Song Celebrates Its 57 Year Anniversary Today (July 10, 1967)

DATE: JULY 10, 2024

FROM: LYNDIE WENNER, MITCH SCHNEIDER / SRO PR

LAURA PURSELL
TODAY (JULY 10) RELEASES NEW VIDEO AND SINGLE:
COVER OF “ODE TO BILLY JOE,”
THE 8 X GRAMMY-NOMINATED AND MULTI-GENRE TOP 10 HIT
BY BOBBIE GENTRY THAT WILL CELEBRATE ITS 57-YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF THE SONG’S JULY 10, 1967 RELEASE

“ODE TO BILLY JOE” IS FEATURED ON LAURA PURSELL’S RECENTLY RELEASED ALBUM ‘SHOOTING STAR’ ON THE NETCOM MUSIC LABEL

LISTEN TO THE SINGLE HERE AND WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.

Ode To Billy Joe – Single Artwork

Nashville singer/songwriter LAURA PURSELL today (July 10) releases the video and single of her interpretation of the classic Bobby Gentry song “Ode To Billy Joe.” This marks the second single from her current album SHOOTING STAR on Netcom Music (September 2023). Listen to LAURA’s sultry-southern cover of the song HERE and watch the YouTube video HERE.

On July 10, “Ode to Billy Joe” will celebrate the 57-year anniversary of the song’s release in 1967. It was written and recorded by BOBBIE GENTRY, and five weeks after its release, topped Billboard’s Pop Singles chart and appeared in the top 10 charts of the Adult Contemporary and Hot R&B singles charts, as well as in the top 20 of the Hot Country Songs list. The song was the title track on Gentry’s 1967 Capitol Records debut album and nominated for eight Grammy Awards and appeared on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Songs of All Time and Greatest Country Songs lists. In 2023, the song was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry.

“Ode To Billy Joe” was one of the songs recorded on what LAURA refers to as the “LA Sessions.” On the evening of March 16, 2020, when she and her band (consisting of drummer Chris Ross, bassist Jeff Takaguchi, and pianist Rick Hils) were told to fold up and leave the stage of a Burbank, CA venue they had a performing residence at, the city of Los Angeles was shutting down at midnight due to a Covid-19 pandemic mandate. Laura shares, “Not being able to perform live or leave LA and to keep myself and the band from going bonkers, we created our own little creative bubble and started looking for hidden gems to cover and possibly record. ‘Ode To Billy Joe’ has always been one of my favorite songs. So, I’m really excited to celebrate the anniversary of its release and am thrilled to have added this song to my latest album Shooting Star. The video was premiered July 8 at  Americana Highways.

© 2024 Netcom Music

During that time of the LA lockdown, LAURA and her band began to meet daily in her living room at the Studio City, CA home she was living in at that time, to rehearse and keep their chops up, work on new tunes, and figure out the road ahead. Laura and her band recorded a collection of songs at producer and guitarist Kenny Meriedeth’s Deep End Music Studios in Burbank, setting their focus on material from the Americana, country and roots rock idioms. LAURA shares, “Recording this collection of songs kept us all somewhat sane and energized.”

Halfway through recording the material, the Nashville native’s beloved father Bill Pursell—a respected Nashville pianist, composer, and orchestrator/arranger—passed away from Covid-19. The LA sessions and what would eventually become the album SHOOTING STAR was shelved indefinitely, and LAURA drove back to Nashville to mourn the loss of her father and musical mentor, and to settle his estate and solidify his musical legacy. In the fall of 2021, LAURA picked up where she and the band had left off, heading back to So. California to finish recording the LA sessions. Out of dozens of recorded tracks, 10 songs were chosen for inclusion for what is now her latest album SHOOTING STAR, an ode to loss and memory. Listen to the album HERE. The first single and title track from SHOOTING STAR was written by Bob Dylan and appeared on his 1989 album ‘OH MERCY.’ Watch the video filmed in downtown Nashville HERE.

Recently, Pursell was invited on the SOMEONE YOU SHOULD KNOW Podcast by the show’s host Rik Anthony who says: “In the heart of Nashville, amidst the echoes of country music legends, stands a luminary in her own right. Laura Pursell was born into country music royalty as the daughter of a pioneer in the creation of the iconic ‘Nashville Sound.’ Pursell’s journey is steeped in heritage and talent.” Listen HERE.

SWAGGERMOUTH have today (July 10) released the groove-laden second track Turnin’ On A Dime” from the Las Vegas-based heavy rock outfit’s forthcoming debut album NEVER SHUT UP due September 18 via Rock Avenue Records USA. Stream it HERE. The enticing music video for “Turnin’ On A Dime” shows band leaders JASON EBS (vocals for Peter Criss’ “Bad Boys of KISS” tours) and JANEA CHADWICK EBS (Joe Cocker) attending a masquerade ball where more than just their identities are concealed. It was premiered yesterday via Bravewords. Watch the video below or via YouTube HERE.

“The premise of ‘Turnin’ On A Dime’ has a dark twist to it, with a warning to watch your back and protect those that you care about, as life is full of people trying to get what they want at your expense,” declares JASON EBS. “‘Not at my expense’ is one of my favorite quotes and is a mantra by which we live.  Our belief is that if you’re lucky enough to have a tribe of trustworthy people around you, then we all need to watch each other’s backs in life.  To me, that’s what a band is all about—it’s an extended musical family of people creating and watching out for each other as we tour through life,” he adds.  “I learned this early on in my career while singing for Peter Criss on the ‘Bad Boys Tours’.  When we’d get ready for the road, he’d say ‘Ok boys, we’re going to battle so we need to all look out for each other.’ So, that’s what we did, and the philosophy stuck.”

JASON continues to share how the song’s message is relayed in the “Turnin’ On A Dime” video: “In the video, there is a Death-masked Man that symbolizes a dark force that lurks among our tribe, shaking hands while secretly brandishing a dagger.  This entity represents those who smile upon you while preparing to stab you in the back to get what they desire.  There’s a scene where Janea has my back, saving me from the creature who administers poison, representing what we do for the people that we care about on a daily basis.  I think that we can all relate to somebody from our inner circle turning against us at some point in our lives.   With friends like that, who needs enemies?  Mean people suck…”

SWAGGERMOUTH have also announced two upcoming free shows as part of the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, SD at Kickstands on Wednesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 8. See the below flyer for details. For the live performances, JASON and JANEA will be joined by their live band including drummer Billy Kesner, bassist Joseph Nile and keyboard wizard Borgi.

NEVER SHUT UP was produced, mixed, and mastered by JASON at his newly acquired Dragon Castle Studios, named to honor its previous owner’s platinum-selling rockers Imagine Dragons. It was co-written by JASON, JANEA, and Chris Slade (AC/DC) who also recorded drums for a majority of the album. The debut track “Let It Roll” was released in May and received airplay on SIRIUS XM’s Ozzy’s Boneyard channel. Across NEVER SHUT UP’s 11 tracks, SWAGGERMOUTH channel their ‘controlled chaos’ sound which mixes heavy rock anthems with slammin’ pop melodies. Pre-order it now HERE.

ABOUT KEN PEPLOWSKI

Ken Peplowski is a jazz clarinetist and saxophonist hailing from Cleveland, Ohio. Ken, and his trumpet-playing brother Ted, made many local radio and TV appearances and played for Polish dances and weddings virtually every weekend all through high-school. “That’s where I learned to improvise, ‘fake’ songs, learn about chord changes, etc.- it’s exactly like learning to swim by being thrown into the water!” By the time Ken was in his early teens, he was experimenting with jazz by playing in the school “stage” bands, and by jamming with many of the local jazz musicians. “By the time I hit high school, I was teaching at the local music store, playing in our family band, and playing jazz gigs around town while still getting up early every day for school.”

After a year of college, Ken joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra under the direction of Buddy Morrow. “Buddy heard me with my quartet at a Cleveland jazz festival along with Teddy Wilson’s trio and the Dorsey band and made an offer right then and there for me to not only play lead alto, but to have a feature spot on the clarinet with the rhythm section. It was a great ‘road-school’ – we learned the discipline that goes with playing one-nighters every day for 48 weeks out of the year, and Buddy was a great, very generous bandleader.” Peplowski met Sonny Stitt while on the road with the Dorsey band and studied with him. “He was, and is, an inspiration to all of us who make a living ‘on the road’ – I’ve never heard anybody play with such amazing consistency as Sonny, through all kinds of settings.”

In 1980, Ken moved to New York City, and was soon playing in all kinds of settings, from traditional to avant-garde jazz. “Everything’s a learning experience in jazz music – there’s always an element of the unpredictable.” In 1984, Benny Goodman came out of retirement and put together a new band, hiring Ken on tenor saxophone.

Peplowski signed with Concord Records, under the tutelage of Carl Jefferson, the founder and president, and recorded close to 20 albums as a leader, including “The Natural Touch” in 1992 which won Best Jazz Record of the Year by the Prises Deutschen Schallplatten Kritiken, and “The Other Portrait”, recorded in Sophia Bulgaria with the symphony orchestra and highlighting Ken’s classical side. He also recorded two records on the Nagel Heyer label, “Lost In The Stars” and “Easy To Remember”, the latter of which features Bobby Short on his last recording. “I loved Bobby Short’s approach to the American songbook, and we’d talked about doing a record together for a while – I’m glad we got this one ‘in the can.’

And he has certainly achieved these goals, be it in small clubs, the Hollywood Bowl (where he played a sold-out concert), headlining in Las Vegas, the Newport Jazz Festival, pops concerts, European festivals and clubs, or at home in NYC, doing everything from playing on the soundtracks to Woody Allen movies, guest soloing on records (his more interesting recent ones were Marianne Faithfull and Cuban vocalist Isaac Delgado) to taking on the role of music director for interactive French and Italian cookbooks (“Menus And Music”).

The litany of musicians Ken has collaborated with includes Mel Torme, Leon Redbone, Charlie Byrd, Peggy Lee, George Shearing, Madonna, Hank Jones, Dave Frishberg, Rosemary Clooney, Tom Harrell, James Moody, Cedar Walton, Houston Person, Steve Allen, Bill Charlap, Woody Allen, Marianne Faithfull, Isaac Delgado & Erich Kunzel. (“Although not necessarily in that order,” says Ken).

Ken Peplowski is a Buffet-Crampon artist, and plays the R-13 clarinet, with a Portnoy mouthpiece and Van Doren German-cut reeds. He also plays a Conn tenor sax and a Berg Larsen mouthpiece.

Ken’s new CD is called “Sunrise” and it’s a big band record of new arrangements written exclusively for him, plus some reworking of classic arrangements. His upcoming CD is a duo record with Brazilian guitarist Diego Figuereido entitled “Amizade”. He is currently the artistic director of the Sarasota Jazz Festival, the Newport Beach Jazz Party, and the Oregon Coast Jazz Party in Newport, Oregon.  Ken Peplowski has also been bestowed this year’s “Creative Arts Prize In Recognition Of Outstanding Contribution In The Field Of The Creative Arts” by the Polish American Historical Association.

ABOUT BENNY BENACK III

By age 33, Emmy-nominated Trumpeter and Vocalist Benny Benack III has already become a leading voice in Jazz for his generation, headlining clubs and festivals around the world on the heels of his latest critically acclaimed album “Third Time’s the Charm” which ascended to #2 on the JazzWeek International Radio Charts in 2023. He is the rare talent who is just as formidable as a fiery trumpeter ranging from Freddie Hubbard to Louis Armstrong and everyone in between, while as a singer he delivers sly, mature, naturally expressive post-Sinatra vocal stylings.

His sophomore album “A Lot of Livin’ to Do” (2020) featured the likes of bass luminary Christian McBride, achieving viral online fame w/his vocalese rendition of “Social Call” ft. Veronica Swift that’s been transcribed and covered by singers around the world. He has crooned his way to millions of more listeners alongside groups such as the Grammy-winning “8-Bit Big Band” and YouTube sensation “Postmodern Jukebox”.

His double-threat credentials were first apparent when he was a finalist in the 2014 Thelonius Monk Competition on trumpet, and then won Third Place in the 2021 Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition. His resume for both was recently bolstered in Downbeat Magazine’s Critics Poll for 2023, where he appeared in two categories: The #2 Rising Star Male Vocalist and #15 Rising Star Trumpet.

His global recognition has been bolstered by the recent advent of live-streaming concerts, both through his weekly residency at Smalls Jazz Club, as well as frequent appearances at fellow young lion Emmet Cohen’s “Emmet’s Place” online series. He has emerged from the pandemic as one of the most in-demand touring artists in the Jazz world, with a never-ending intercontinental schedule that reflects his indefatigable love for the music, with his smile and panache on full-display wherever it takes him next.

ABOUT CALABRIA FOTI

Calabria Foti is an American singer, violinist, composer, arranger, author, and educator. A consummate musician and a dynamic entertainer, Calabria is a connoisseur of music, from Classical to Broadway.  Ms. Foti’s recordings and live shows have been praised by such diverse artists as piano virtuoso Van Cliburn, composer Johnny Mandel, trumpeter Chris Botti, and a host of other music and entertainment luminaries. Upon hearing her CD, “A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening” (2007, MoCo Records), legendary singer Johnny Mathis said, ” Listening to a beautiful voice is one of my greatest pleasures in life. Listening to this recording of Calabria Foti’s voice is some of the most beautiful and artistic music I have ever heard. She is a treasure!”

Born into a family of musicians and music educators, Calabria was exposed to classical, jazz, and popular music at a young age. Passionate about movie musicals and classic films of the late 1920s on, Ms. Foti calls herself a “throwback”, in love with the period of American history that produced the songs of the Great American Songbook and the films from The Golden Age of Hollywood.

Her highly acclaimed CDs are a testimony to her musical sensibilities and can be heard regularly on adult standards and jazz radio formats throughout the world. She has shared the spotlight and the microphone with TV’s Seth MacFarlane and in 2013, the two paired up to record the duet, “Let’s Fall in Love”, which garnered a Grammy Award nomination.

Equally at home performing musical theatre, jazz, cabaret, or her own original songs, Calabria has been called a “master of improvisation and interpretation”, and her voice has graced several major motion picture and television soundtracks.

Also, an accomplished violinist, Calabria created the jazz violin sound for Fox TV’s Lisa Simpson, performed the virtuosic violin solo for the long-running theme to PBS’ Great Performances, and most recently was a featured soloist in the films, Muppets Most Wanted and Sherlock Holmes. She has played violin on hundreds of television and movie scores, and on CDs for Barbra Streisand, Paul McCartney, Josh Groban, Daft Punk, and many others.

With a delightful speaking voice, Ms. Foti has hosted the internationally syndicated radio program “Music Of Your Life” and is heard occasionally as a guest host on Sirius/XM Radio’s “Siriusly Sinatra”, where she enthusiastically discusses and plays the music she loves so much.

ABOUT PATTY ASCHER

Whether singing in English or her native Portuguese, Patty Ascher brings an alluring quality to bear on every evocative tune. From achingly beautiful interpretations of songs by the likes of Michel Legrand and Burt Bacharach (the latter whom she paid tribute to on the acclaimed album Bacharach Bossa Club) to heartfelt renditions of her own affecting bossa nova and R&B flavored originals, Patty delivers with the kind of classy sophistication that belies to the great jazz singers.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Patty Ascher grew up in a musical household. Her father Neno was part of a very successful Brazilian band from the 70s called Os Incríveis (The Incredibles). “My father was a musician, his brother is a very popular arranger and maestro in Brazil and all my cousins play an instrument,” she says. As a singer, she cites Brazilian divas Leny Andrade and Gal Costa along with American jazz divas Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dinah Washington as important influences. “What they all have in common,” says Ascher, “is personality. When you hear them, you do know who is singing.”

Patty Ascher also lists Nat “King” Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Al Jarreau as among her favorite male voices, though her earliest vocal influence may have come from a 1930s icon. “The first song I remember in my life was ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’’ with Fats Waller singing,” she recalls. “I was only three years old, and I loved that song. I’d wake up in the morning hearing Fats, and that always stuck with me. Then I discovered Cab Calloway’s ‘Minnie the Moochie’ from a cartoon, and I loved that as well. My father then introduced me to Louis Armstrong, and I started to listen all the time to his versions of ‘Dream A Little Dream of Me,’ ‘High Society’ and ‘St. James Infirmary.’ I used to love that man singing just to me in my room while I was eating or taking a bath, even when I was sleeping.”

Patty Ascher’s musical horizons eventually expanded to include the Beatles, American Soul and jazz. During her college years while studying for a bachelor’s degree in literature at the University of São Paulo, she began immersing herself in Brazilian music while harboring a dream of becoming a professional singer. She recalls her earliest onstage experiences. “My first gig was in a beautiful theater in São Paulo. It was a benefit concert for the Jewish Community Center. The second one I did was in Rio de Janeiro at Bar Do Tom, a Bossa Nova temple…a very fancy night club in Rio.”

In 2007, after earning a master’s degree she encountered bossa nova pioneer Roberto Menescal, who invited Patty Ascher to record her first CD, singing Burt Bacharach songs in bossa nova style. “Meeting him was a sign to me,” she says. “It was a chance to go on seriously with a career, working with a great producer and mentor. We released our project one year after our first meeting and it was a dream project. It was an incredible opportunity to sing samba and jazz together. They have a lot in common. Both were born in the ‘new continent’ at the same time from the same mother Africa.”

On her latest recording, Bossa, Jazz ‘n’ Samba, Patty Ascher’s gorgeous voice is surrounded by lush orchestrations from such respected veteran MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) artists and composer-arrangers as Dori Caymmi, Gilson Peranzetta, Amilson Godoy and Cristovao Bastos. This spirited cross-cultural project –recorded at the famous Gravodisc studios in Sao Paolo, Brazil –should put Patty Ascher over the top and she was nominated for a Grammy.
