Atlanta-based rock group PISTOLS AT DAWN will hit the road in late spring supporting the California hard rock group Ugly Kid Joe alongside heavy metal group Fozzy (select dates only) across the U.S on the “Rad Wings Of Destiny” tour. It kicks off May 3 in San Diego, with the band then heading to the East Coast before looping back to end on June 10 in San Antonio, TX. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, January 20 at 10:00 AM local time at https://www.pistolsatdawnband.com/tour. PISTOLS AT DAWN will also be seen on the road in early March supporting Alter Bridge and Mammoth WVH from March 10-31. Full dates can be found listed below.

“We’re beyond stoked to join this incredible coast to coast tour,” shares PISTOLS AT DAWN drummer Adam Jaffe. “It’s an honor to be on such a kick-ass bill with the epic ‘America’s Least Wanted’ Ugly Kid Joe and the massively talented and over the top rocking Chris Jericho, Rich Ward and Fozzy! It’s truly a dream, and we intend to throw down at every single city on the tour!”

PISTOLS AT DAWN landed their first-ever Top 40 Billboard Active Rock charting with “The Truth” (#33), the lead single from their debut full-length album ASCENSION released in 2022 via Megaforce Records/MRI Entertainment. Earlier this week, the band delivered a second single to radio, the anthemic ‘stick it to the man’ track “Under The Surface,” which has debuted at #1 most added on the Secondary Market Rock charts and charted #3 most added on Mediabase. Recorded by Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of A Down) and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (Faith No More, Rob Halford), ASCENSION delivers hard-hitting hooks, magnetic melodies and intricate instrumentation with old school arena-size ambition.

The album’s debut single “Troll Kalla Mik” (“They Call Me Troll”) shares the lore of the “Huldufolk” (“hidden people”) and the dangers one faces when stepping into their realm. Their second single “Då Månen Sken” (“When The Moon Shone”) was released in December and tells the tale of the mythical femme-fatale Skogsrå, a forest nymph who lures men and binds their soul to the forest. John Lodge; Photo credit: Frank Piercy

JOHN LODGE, legendary bass player, songwriter and vocalist of The Moody Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, is looking forward to his previously announced winter 2023 US tour, “Performs Days of Future Passed,” launching February 18 in Lexington, MA. LODGE, together with his 10,000 Light Years Band, will perform The Moody Blues’ iconic Days of Future Passed album—which marked its 55th anniversary on November 10, 2022—in its entirety, with a special recording by the late Graeme Edge and performances by Jon Davison of YES. The show will be rounded out by LODGE’s self-written classic hits “Ride My See-Saw,” “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band),” and “Isn’t Life Strange.”

LODGE’s tour also coincides with the 50th anniversary of The Moody Blues’ 1972 album Seventh Sojourn (released November 17, 1972 in the US) which spent 5 weeks at Number 1 on Billboard. It featured the above-mentioned LODGE-penned hits “I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock and Roll Band)” and “Isn’t Life Strange.”

“Seventh Sojourn was the last of the first seven ‘core’ albums, and for me it was the pinnacle of the Moody Blues as a ‘touring band,’” says LODGE.  “The two hit singles from the album, ‘I’m Just a Singer (In a Rock n Roll Band) and ‘Isn’t life Strange,’ I still feature in my solo shows. When I wrote those songs, I was younger than I am today, but it still amazes me at their continued relevance.  What I do know is that they mean as much to me today as they did then, and I can see in the audience that it means the same to them, too.  I always feel that we share the deep emotion–the journey, if you will–of these songs together.”

Below are the tour dates and more quotes from JOHN about the show. For tickets, VIP packages–which include a great seat, a personalized video message from John and exclusive merchandise, and more–please visit: https://johnlodge.com/tour.

For the 55th anniversary of Days of Future Passed, JOHN wanted to do something special to celebrate the album. The Moodies had embarked on a US tour in 2017 to celebrate the 50th, but regrettably stopped touring shortly after, and then, very sadly, Graeme Edge passed away in 2021. However, shortly before his passing, John and Graeme met and spent some special time together, and at that meeting Graeme told John how he hoped John would continue on with the music and keep the Moody Blues’ music alive.

JOHN returned home and realized that what he really wanted to do was revisit this iconic album, honor his lost friends Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge, and his other bandmates Justin Hayward and Mike Pinder, but also reimagine it for today.  How would he do it differently? Graeme had already recorded a special version of “Late Lament” for John, and John’s great friend (and future son-in-law) Jon Davison (of YES) had recorded “Nights in White Satin” for him, and so the stage was set; John went into the studio and began work with his Musical Director, Alan Hewitt, on both a new show and a new album, details of which are TBA.

The new show, based around the simple tale of “a day in the life of an everyday man,” will highlight all that made Days of Future Passed the ground-breaking album that it was–arguably the start of Progressive Rock.  It retains the core emotion of the original album and recreates its incredible orchestration, but at the same time it also brings in a modern feel thanks to the great strides in modern fidelity, and the maturity that comes with the passing of the years.  Listen to “Nights in White Satin,” “Tuesday Afternoon,” “Peak Hour,” and more fill the room, and you’ll be taken back to 1967, but at the same time, you’ll hear what John has brought to this new version in his vocals, bass and harmonies, and how he sees the album 55 years later. In its own way, it can also be said to be a reflection of John’s own life.

The electrifying show will also feature a selection of JOHN’s above-mentioned self-written hits. Come and be taken back to The Moody Blues’ shows of the past, featuring JOHN LODGE and including tributes to all his bandmates.

Joining JOHN on stage is his 10,000 Light Years Band: long term collaborator Alan Hewitt (Music Director and Keyboards) and Billy Ashbaugh (Drums) from the Moody Blues touring band, together with Duffy King (Guitars) and Jason Charboneau (Cello). Jon Davison, lead vocalist of YES, will also light up the night with his special renditions of The Moody Blues’ “Nights in White Satin” and “Tuesday Afternoon.”

“As I said at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Graeme, Mike, Ray, Justin, and I, together with Tony, went into a studio, and seven days later we came out with an album that changed our lives forever,” says LODGE of Days of Future Passed.

He adds: “I’m sorry that the Moodies are no longer touring, and I miss my friends Ray and Graeme deeply, but as I looked back to the past, I realised that I also wanted to look forwards to the Future. My hope is that in this show, and album, you will get to revisit 1967, but at the same time, see how this album has grown with me, and with you. Thank to you the 10,000 Light Years Band, Jon Davison and, of course, Graeme, for their belief in this project and helping bring my vision to life. And thank you to all the fans for Keeping the Faith.”

“For the last 17 years, To Write Love on Her Arms has been finding ways to use live music as a means to connect people to local and affordable options for mental health care,” relays TWLOHA’s Director of Outreach Chad Moses. “In that time, we’ve been fortunate enough to see some of the very best examples where conversations of mental health have been expressed and received from the stage and in the crowds. We’ve not done this work alone—rather these conversations have been cultivated through active relationships with countless fans, music industry professionals, and artists. Within those ranks, Nothing More has proven to be among the most consistent and loyal friends to the organization, and that friendship grew in large part due to how they craft their art. When the band performs a song about mental health—or about hope, or about pain—they aren’t treating the stage as a pulpit but instead as an invitation. What they have to say or sing finds its true value in how it is received by the listeners and how those fans choose to live out the next chapters. Simply put, Nothing More is what it looks and sounds like to feel a little less alone, and is proof that our deepest questions and challenges can be fertile ground for building community.”

NOTHING MORE’s 2022 album SPIRITS via Better Noise Music was inspired by the philosophy of Alan Watts and Carl Jung and an introspective look at the results on one’s psyche after being isolated due to the pandemic. The album was accompanied by a meta- personality “SPIRITS TEST” designed by frontman Jonny Hawkins—similar to tests such as Myers-Briggs, Big 5 and the Zodiac—which results in finding out one’s “Spirit Type,” one of seven personality characters based on the test’s results. Each “Spirit Type” is paired to a track on SPIRITS which the band have further highlighted with lyric video visualizers showcasing the artwork for the associated “Spirit Type.” Last week NOTHING MORE unveiled the visualizer for “DREAM WITH ME,” and they will next reveal the visualizer for “VALHALLA” with a YouTube video premiere and Instagram live Q&A this Thursday, January 12. Set a reminder for “VALHALLA” lyric video premiere here: https://youtu.be/pDCvfo-HUaA.

NOTHING MORE will further develop the story of these “Spirit Types” in their upcoming graphic novel “SPIRITS VOL.1” due this Spring via Z2 Comics. Pre-order a copy HERE.

ABOUT NOTHING MORE
Rock audiences count NOTHING MORE among the most cherished acts, the kind of band who straddle the line between populism and intimacy with every performance. The San Antonio, Texas-born quartet builds unapologetically massive anthems from catchy hooks. Crowd-pleasers clear a path for heady, confessional, thought-provoking emotionalism. Fresh rewards reveal themselves with repeat listens, welcoming like-minded seekers with rich melodicism, like the best of Deftones or Tool.

Those who saw the band on tour with hard rock heavyweights like Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, and Disturbed will attest to what The Guardian observed: “There’s a sophistication to NOTHING MORE’s angst that raises them above the tumult-tossed pit.”

Kerrang! named NOTHING MORE one of 22 Artists Shaping the Future of Rock, alongside Nine Inch Nails, Twenty One Pilots, and Bring Me The Horizon. And frontman Jonny Hawkins, who met guitarist Mark Vollelunga before they were old enough to drive, appeared with Billie Joe Armstrong, Dave Grohl, and Hayley Williams in the English tastemaker’s Top 50 Greatest Rockstars in the World.

Hawkins and Vollelunga started the band in 2003 and were quickly joined by bassist Daniel Oliver and later by drummer Ben Anderson. The band’s blend of explosive bombast and nuanced storytelling resulted in a half dozen Top 10 singles at Mainstream Rock Radio, including the No. 1 hit “Go to War” and the Sirius XM Octane song of the decade and Active Rock chart-topper “This is the Time (Ballast).” The Stories We Tell Ourselves earned a head-turning three Grammy nominations.

Terrific French Bakery and Eatery in Summerlin: Patisserie Manon

When you have coffee with Lonn Friend, you never know who’s going to show up. So cool to meet L.A. transplants—Stryper guitarist Oz Fox, spiritual medium/intuitive advisor Brandy Rosenberg and photographer Steve Cook—yesterday at a fave place of mine, Patisserie Manon, in Summerlin. We’re all in this photo including the eatery’s resident mannequin. Lonn may not be on social media these days, but he remains a fantastic connector!

Los Angeles-based indie/alternative rock outfit LOUDEN SWAIN released their tenth studio album FEELINGS AND SUCH in November which they celebrated with an intimate hometown release show. Fronted by actor/musician Rob Benedict—who was recently cast on Season 4 of Amazon Prime’s “The Boys” and is best known for his recurring role as “Chuck/God” on the long-running CW hit series “Supernatural”—LOUDEN SWAIN is rounded out by a group of skilled musicians including co-founder/bassist Michael Borja, drummer Stephen Norton and guitarist Billy Moran. The quartet have shared a look behind-the-scenes of the ‘making of’ FEELINGS AND SUCH in the music video for the bracing album single “Wine And Roses.” It’s streaming now below or directly via YouTube HERE.

“‘Wine and Roses’ is about being quarantined in 2020,” says Benedict. “It reflects on the past few years and struggling to maintain sanity, specifically being isolated in a small room, losing touch with reality.”

LOUDEN SWAIN have developed a unique approach to touring due to Benedicts fanbase surrounding his role on “Supernatural.” The band appear at fan conventions specific to the show which are held across the globe monthly and see Louden Swain perform as the house band between actor’s panels along with booking a headlining gig that’s open to both convention attendees and the general public. The band are currently in Nashville, TN where they performed a headlining show this past Saturday on the 17th and will play a second sold-out show tonight, December 19, at Analog with Radio Company which is fronted by Benedict’s “Supernatural” co-star Jensen Ackles and singer-songwriter Steve Carlson. The show will livestreamed via Stageit at a “pay-what-you-can” rate; tickets are available HERE.

Marking LOUDEN SWAIN’s 25-year anniversary, FEELINGS AND SUCH combines rock & roll swagger and melodic jangle with emotive, electrifying songs about pushing past challenges and turning one’s struggles into salvation. Its debut single “There’s The Rub” premiered on Popmatters who described it as “a tune that gets listeners up on their feet with its swagger” while praising Benedict’s “hearty vocal delivery” and crediting the band for “fuel(ing) its infectious energy with their instrumental performance.”

Co-produced by LOUDEN SWAIN and longtime collaborator Zackary Darling (The Temptations, John Waite), FEELINGS AND SUCH is an album rooted in trials and triumphs, whipped into shape by a band of rock & roll lifers who’ve had plenty of experience with both. BENEDICT had gone through a divorce, BORJA had recently lost his father, NORTON was battling colon cancer and everyone’s lives had been altered by the pandemic. Yet LOUDEN SWAIN continue to spread their optimistic outlook within its 13 tracks and throughout their upcoming live performances (full dates below).

Plunging listeners into the myths and legends of Scandinavia, world-famous French Nordic folk collective SKÁLD pay homage to ancient Nordic poets (aka skalds) by singing in Old Norse and other Scandinavian languages (Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic and Faroese) along with using instrumentation dating back to the 14th century such as the nyckelharpa, Lyre, hurdy-gurdy, Moraharpa and Talharpa, underpinned with shamanic percussion to create their transfixing sound.

The collective today (December 16) share the second single, “Då Månen Sken,” from their forthcoming album HULDUFÓLK due January 20 via Decca Records France / DECCA RECORDS U.S. (UMG). “Då Månen Sken” translates to “When The Moon Shone” and tells the lore of the Swedish mythical femme-fatale Skogsrå, a forest nymph who lures men and binds their soul to the forest. The single is available now across all streaming platforms HERE and a visualizer video can be seen streaming below.

“‘Då Månen Sken’ is a ballad that tells the story of a skogsrå, a forest nymph, who bewitched the young Björn,” relays SKÁLD. “Björn was a tall, handsome boy on his way to a party one fall evening. On his way, he met this nymph who bewitched him. He will end up alone and melancholic, obsessed by the sound of the forest.”

Formed by producer/composer Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet in 2018, SKÁLD is a collective of over a dozen musicians who have restored the folklore and myths from poets, Vikings and shamans of ancient times and distant lands. HULDUFÓLK (“the hidden people”) honors an entire people in whom many Scandinavians still believe—elves, trolls, witches, fairies and otherworldly creature that live deep in the forests and in the heart of the mountains that discreetly coexist with humankind. The album’s debut single “Troll Kalla Mik” (“They Call Me Troll”), released on November 18, shared the lore of the “hidden people” with a mystifying music video that was voted PROG’s “Track of The Week” and has since garnered 372k views. Watch it here.

HULDUFÓLK’s cover artwork (seen below) is a tribute to Swedish painter and illustrator John Baur’s illustration “Princess Tuvstarr Gazing Down Into The Dark Waters Of The Forest Tarn.”  Baur is best known for his illustrations of early editions of Bland Tomtar Och Troll (Among Gnomes and Trolls), an anthology of Swedish folklore and fairy tales which are highlighted throughout HULDUFÓLK.

Pre-order HULDUFÓLK digitally and/or on CD, LP, including bundles with a protective troll amulet and leather cord, at https://bio.to/skald.
