Grammy Award-winning acoustic guitarist Tommy Emmanuel and Grammy Award-winning bluegrass fiddler Michael Cleveland joined together on July 10 to help kick off the Chet Atkins Appreciation Society’s four-day annual event that was held at the Music City Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center in Nashville. Emmanuel and Cleveland appeared together onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, performing “Mr. Guitar,” their collaborative track on the current and critically acclaimed Chet Atkins tribute album, WE STILL CAN’T SAY GOOD BYE—A Musicians’ Tribute To Chet Atkins. Both the show and CAAS event honored the legendary music icon and guitar great’s 100^th anniversary celebration.

Released April 19 on the Morningstar Music Productions label, the album features 15 tracks and 22 artists from the country, rock, bluegrass and acoustic musical realms. Conceived and produced by the legendary 3-time Grammy-winning, bluegrass and country songwriter, producer and guitarist Carl Jackson, the album contains some of the world’s best artists and guitar players including Vince Gill, Eric Clapton, Tommy Emmanuel C.G.P., Ricky Skaggs, James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Brad Paisley, Sierra Hull, and many more. Recording artist and contemporary fine artist BILLY MORRISON and world-renowned photographer MARK “WEISSGUY” WEISS will come together for one weekend only—September 19, 20, and 21 at the iconic Motor Cars LA Showroom in Hollywood, CA—to showcase a series of paintings by Morrison, based on the images photographed by Weiss. Billed as “A Moment In Time,” the event is presented by X5 Podcast and Motor Cars LA. See a few images below.

There are 12 unique canvas pieces from Morrison, and high-end editions of the same photographs from Weiss, with a special 13th painting and prints going to support mental health, suicide prevention and trauma counseling through the Above Ground charity spearheaded by Morrison and Dave Navarro, Jane’s Addiction’s guitarist.

The public viewing is set for September 21, to be preceded by the VIP Preview on September 19, and September 20 which will feature a Q+A from both artists. There will be a live stream at Thursday’s red carpet event from the X5 Podcast team. At this event, Rock N Roll and Fine Art collide with multi-million-dollar supercars in the entertainment capital of the world. BILLY MORRISON has developed successful careers in multiple genres, as a rock guitarist (with Billy Idol for the past 15 years), a solo recording artist, and as a contemporary fine artist. Self-study and experimentation are the essence of Morrison’s process, working with oil paints and spray in a Warhol-esque aesthetic. Morrison’s iconic style mimics the effects of multilayered screen printing through a street art approach with the use of stencils.

MARK “WEISSGUY” WEISS is a world-renowned photographer who has traveled the globe photographing legends from Van Halen, Ozzy Osbourne, Aerosmith, and Mötley Crüe to Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Bon Jovi, and KISS. Weiss’ inimitable photographs helped craft the visual imagery of rock and metal in the 1980s.

Q&A with Billy Morrison and Mark “Weissguy” Weiss

What inspired this collaboration of photography and art?

BILLY: As a fine art painter, there are certain rules about using images from photographers and in fact, some extremely interesting and high-profile court cases surrounding certain images. So when the opportunity was suggested to both of us by Charlie Reece (X5 Podcast) that Mark and I could close that gap between photographer and artist by doing a collaborative show, we both jumped at the chance.

MARK: When Charlie presented this opportunity to collaborate with Billy on creating new life for 12 of my classic photographs, I was ecstatic. Billy is bringing an added dimension and new appreciation to a dozen of my favorites. I spent the eighties hopping from one tour bus to another, shooting press photos and creating album covers, having a blast. Whenever I photographed a band in the ‘80s, it was like gaining a bunch of new friends. 40 years later, it feels good to get that feeling again with Billy.”

Billy—maybe you can isolate a few of the paintings and tell us your thoughts about them?

BILLY: Obviously painting my boss, Billy Idol, is quite intimidating! You don’t want to get that wrong! But Mark’s photograph of Billy during the Rebel Yell days is so iconic and so widely used, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to paint it. Tom Petty is another painting that was quite intimidating to paint, as we shared management and there are a bunch of ties between the Idol camp and the Petty camp. Finally, the Ozzy Osbourne painting obviously felt strange to do, considering my multi-decade friendship with the man, but I chose a very different and endearing shot that Mark took, Sharon has seen the finished painting and approved, and you will have to come to the show to see it!

Mark—perhaps you can give us some words about the final results of the collaboration…that is, seeing your photographs painted?

MARK: When deciding which images he would work on, we both seemed to gravitate towards the same ones. Billy’s close friendship with the Prince of Darkness makes this extra special, as Ozzy and Sharon had taken me around the world and welcomed me into their family when I was starting my career. I am looking forward to the gallery event when I, too, will see the paintings for the first time!

Your collaboration has cultural relevance, noting that photographer Lynn Goldsmith recently won her lawsuit against the Andy Warhol Estate. So it’s terrific to know that there is a collaboration in this scenario between the photographer and the painter. Can you share your thoughts about this?

BILLY: I completely understand that a photographer owns the copyright to that image, but I believe there are many ways that the subject of that image, as well as artists like myself, can collaborate and create more effectively with the photographer. Iconic images will always be a subject of creativity, and I believe that by teaming up with Mark, we are showing what can be achieved with co-operation, creative dialogue and a desire to share those images in different ways with the world.

Charlie Reece, the multifaceted businessman, musician, and founder of the X5 Podcast, has been making waves from his professional studio in Alabama. Known for his deep love of rock ‘n’ roll, Charlie is not just a podcast host but also a rock/country artist with an upcoming album. Female country music trio CHAPEL HART have confirmed the details for their HARTFELT FAMILY CHRISTMAS album due out October 25. The HARTFELT FAMILY CHRISTMAS track listing consists of 12 songs, including four originals, alongside well-known and beloved holiday favorites. The album is being produced by Tre’ Coreley and Dan Needham and recorded at Oak Tree Productions recording studio in Hendersonville, TN. Sisters Danica and Devynn Hart and cousin Trea Swindle have been treating audiences to a preview of the album as part of their Christmas In July exclusive listening events and have been slowly revealing details on the album via their YouTube channel.

Prior to the album’s release, CHAPEL HART will head back to Europe for performances in the UK (where they wowed audiences this past March at the 2024 Country 2 Country [C2C] Festival at London’s O2 Arena) for two C2C-promoted shows in London (St Pancras) and Glasgow (St Luke), along with an appearance at the Long Road Festival in Leicestershire. They’ll also perform at Country Night Gstaad in Gstaad, Switzerland before returning to the U.S.

CHAPEL HART will support the album’s release with a fall holiday tour, additional details of which will be announced in the coming weeks. Excitingly, the group will also head to Asia in November for five dates in Japan performing for U.S. military troops.

“Everyone’s On Dope” is the sixth new track and video from the rising rock outfit following consecutive releases “Money, Sex, or God,” “I Am The Wolf,” “The Boom Went The Boom (feat. Phil Collen),” “I’m Unbreakable,” and “Evil World Machine.” To date CROSSBONE SKULLY has garnered over 1 million streams. All tracks were executive produced by the legendary Mutt Lange (AC/DC, Def Leppard, Bryan Adams) who came out of retirement for this project. Singer, songwriter, author, Broadway star, and actor SEBASTIAN BACH has confirmed a Friday, July 25 signing at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con 2024. BACH will appear as the guest of his Reigning Phoenix Music record label on Friday at 12 Noon at the REIGNING PHOENIX MUSIC, STERN PINBALL AND REBELLION REPUBLIC MERCH booth (#3721). BACH will sign his new album artwork and fans can purchase LPs, CDs, Cassettes and T-shirts as well.

“I have collected comic books since I was five years old,” SEBASTIAN says. “I am a proud owner of amazing fantasy number 15 the very first appearance of Spider-Man. My collection of bronze and silver age comics is very large with many key issues and someday I will share it with the world. I have been an avid collector for decades and I am honored to appear at Comic-Con! If only to get a couple new Incredible Hulk shirts! Looking forward to seeing YOU at Comic-Con!!!”

The appearance comes as BACH wraps his summer 2024 tour in support of his latest album CHILD WITHIN tHE MAN (and first solo effort in 10 years) The album has yielded four singles, all of which have impacted the rock charts: Freedom,” “What Do I Got To Lose?,” “Everybody Bleeds,” and “(Hold On) To The Dream.”

CHILD WITHIN tHE MAN was recorded in Orlando, Florida; produced and mixed by Baskette; engineered by Jef Moll, assistant engineered by Josh Saldate; and mastered by Robert Ludwig/Gateway Mastering. BACH wrote or co-wrote all the album’s 11 tracks and sang all lead and backing vocals.
