Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist and producer JASON ACHILLES has taken his combined passion for music and astronomy to new heights as his work as a research consultant for NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has now resulted in a historical first-ever Martian audio recording. ACHILLES was enlisted by NASA in the summer of 2017 to assemble a team of audio research experts to advise on microphone technology to be implemented on the surface of Mars for the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover mission after pitching David Gruel (Assembly, Test and Launch Operations Manager for Mars Perseverance at JPL) his concepts for informing a working audio selection, largely based on his work as an audio engineer for the past decade. His team worked towards final selection of audio flight hardware on the Mars 2020 Perseverance Rover as part of an array of seven cameras known as the EDLCAM system (“entry, descent, and landing”) and successfully obtained sounds from Jezero Crater including a Martian breeze. Listen HERE.

ACHILLES shared the in-depth story of his background in space, how he independently worked to forward the idea of a ‘space microphone’, and what it was like to seize an incredible opportunity to develop this system alongside NASA via WIRED. Read the full interview here: https://www.wired.com/story/musician-who-designed-microphone-mars/

Alongside his work with space audio technology, ACHILLES runs his boutique analog recording studio, Organic Audio Recorders, based in downtown LA, and is currently working with Dizzy Reed (Guns N’ Roses) on his forthcoming solo album. ACHILLES –who studied classical piano and has a B.A. in Music from UC Berkeley—is a multi-instrumentalist that simultaneously performs guitar, bass and keys using intricate looping techniques. Backed by drummer Forrest Mitchell, the duo released their debut full-length album COMEDOWN in 2016, which was praised by No Depression for its “slick guitar tones, enchanting as they intertwine through each and every song on the record.”

ACHILLES will release a new EP later this spring which was launched with the release of the single “RTL (Ready To Launch)” in December. The second single, “Eurotrash,” will debut this Friday, February 26 across all streaming platforms. Pre-save/order it here: smarturl.it/eurotrash.

8 East

2/24/20

And the hits kept coming last night…in the form of one soul- satisfying plate after another at 8 East, chef Dan Coughlin’s Pan Asian eatery inside the new Circa hotel/casino in downtown Vegas. We’ll definitely be back for  more of those ginger chicken dumplings, pork belly bao, Tokyo crepe, sizzling noodle, and stir fried green beans. Afterwards, we walked around the Circa, with its iconic Vegas Vickie neon sign, not to mention the go-go dancers lighting up the casino floor (their black masks suggested something other than life during a pandemic). Stepped outside the hotel’s doors to the Fremont Street Experience…a total sensory overload a la “Blade Runner” with eye-popping light shows displayed on the massive LED canopy that runs around four blocks…whew!

REVEAL OFFICIAL LYRIC VIDEO FOR REMASTERED
“BROKEN AS ME (feat. DANNY WORSNOP of ASKING ALEXANDRIA)”

MULTI-PLATINUM BAND TO RELEASE SECOND GREATEST HITS ALBUM SHOWCASING TENURE ON BETTER NOISE MUSIC,
‘GREATEST HITS VOL. 2: THE BETTER NOISE YEARS’

In yet another showing of their deep catalogue, iconic, multi-platinum rock band PAPA ROACH have shared a brand new, remastered version of their 2015 release, “Broken As Me,” inviting vocalist Danny Worsnop from British rock group Asking Alexandria to feature on the song.

“He’s been on our list for a while,” said PAPA ROACH’s lead singer Jacoby Shaddix, “and having just toured together, we thought of Danny first when listening to some of the deeper cuts on the album. With the pandemic in full swing, Danny was down right away. He’s one of the best vocalists in rock music, so we’re happy he said yes.”

Worsnop added, “Making music with my friends is something I always love and enjoy so when Jacoby called me about doing something together I was in right away. The Papa Roach guys have been close friends for a long time now and I’m glad they were able to see that the only thing holding them back from stardom all these years was not having me sing on a new version of one of their songs. I think this is really going to put them on the map and from the bottom of my heart, they’re welcome!”

The track, with such emotionally charged lyrics and raw, powerful vocals from both artists, is set to be included on their second greatest hits collection, GREATEST HITS VOL. 2: THE BETTER NOISE YEARS, out March 19 on Better Noise Music. Check out the re-energized version of “Broken As Me” in the lyric video above or streaming HERE.

GREATEST HITS VOL. 2: THE BETTER NOISE YEARS features 21 tracks including 12 of the band’s recent Top 10 singles released between 2010-2019 through Better Noise Music. The set also includes previously unreleased remixes and acoustic recordings recorded Live at YouTube Studios in NYC. This set marks the Sacramento band’s second greatest hits collection, a benchmark seldom reached by contemporaries; their first greatest hits set, …To Be Loved–The Best of Papa Roach, comprised their time from 1999–2009 on Interscope Records.

Meanwhile, “The Ending (Remastered 2020)”–the first single from GREATEST HITS VOL. 2: THE BETTER NOISE YEARS–was released last November and is currently #4 at Active Rock radio. It was accompanied by a haunting music video comprised of footage from the upcoming BETTER NOISE FILMS horror-thriller movie THE RETALIATORS which debuts in the Autumn and will feature vocalist JACOBY SHADDIX’s motion picture debut.

“We wanted to commemorate the last 10 years of our journey with a sampling of the music that got us here,” shares guitarist Jerry Horton. “None of it could have been possible without the support of all of our families, our friends, or team and most of all, you–our fans.”

Pre-order/pre-save Greatest Hits Vol. 2: The Better Noise Years here.

PAPA ROACH have continued to stretch their boundaries throughout the years, including features with artists outside their genre–such as their 2017 track “Periscope” with pop artist Skylar Grey (which is included on the new release)–and most recently collaborating with TikTok star/up-and-coming artist JERIS JOHNSON on a new version of their iconic hit “Last Resort.” Check out the collaboration in the music video for “Last Resort Reloadedhere.

To date PAPA ROACH have led the path for contemporary rock artists in the digital streaming era with over 2 billion streams globally and 9 million monthly listeners on Spotify. This set encompasses their career history of over 20 Top 5 Active Rock singles, 13 of which occurred in the past decade including four #1 singles –“Face Everything and Rise” (2014), “Help” and “Born For Greatness” (both 2017) and “Come Around” (2019).

BUDDERSIDE Uncage New Single/Music Video “Wide Awake” filmed at Abandoned Old L.A. Zoo

SOPHOMORE ALBUM
SPIRITUAL VIOLENCE

DUE MARCH 26 VIA MOTÖRHEAD MUSIC/SILVER LINING MUSIC

Los Angeles-based quintet BUDDERSIDE conjure high-energy alt-rock anthems which bridge the gap between the sexy swagger of the Sunset Strip and the soulful depths of Seattle on their forthcoming sophomore release SPIRITUAL VIOLENCE out March 26 via Motörhead Music/Silver Lining Music. The band have now unveiled a third single from the album with the striking track “Wide Awake” out today, February 19, across all digital platforms. The music video for “Wide Awake”—seen streaming below–was filmed at the abandoned Old L.A. Zoo in Griffith Park and shares an important story correlated to the single and album’s concept art.

“Every song always has a symbol, a visual story,” explains vocalist/founding member Patrick Stone. “‘Spiritual Violence’ lays down ten tarot cards, each representing a song. The story of ‘Wide Awake’ is one of manifesting your dreams, after a journey through Hell to reach them. The Hand Of Fatima is featured on the artwork for ‘Wide Awake’ and is the perfect reflection of this lesson. In the video, the band all pick cards from evil’s deck which reflect pieces of a puzzle that when all are in place reveal a greater destiny they share together.”

Getting to the abandoned location to film was a journey itself as drummer Jeff Dewbray recalls. “I got to take my drums on a f*ckin’ hike through an abandoned zoo. And that’s just the beginning of the madness in these videos! ‘Wide Awake’ has always been one of my favorite songs in the live set and every damn time I count it in, I know hysteria is bound to break out.  I’m forever grateful for everyone involved and couldn’t be more excited to show you all this video!”

Pre-order/pre-save SPIRITUAL VIOLENCE: https://smarturl.it/spiritual-violence

SPIRITUAL VIOLENCE was recorded with legendary producer Jay Baumgardner (Bush, Godsmack, Papa Roach) and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage). Its 10 tracks careen through STONE’s journey of overcoming addiction, loss and heartbreak to discovering resurrection with patience, perseverance and meditation set over soaring melodies and catchy refrains. BUDDERSIDE previously shared two singles: “Zen”–via MXDWN which American Songwriter applauded for “hav(ing) effortlessly aligned jazz, funk and pop influences with their rock persona that lends to interesting chord progressions and key changes”–and “Pardon Me (featuring Phil Campbell of Motörhead)”–whose animated music video depicted the story behind how the band was introduced and signed to Motörhead Music by its late founder, Motörhead vocalist Lemmy Kilmister.

BUDDERSIDE has previously been seen on tours alongside Motörhead, Slayer, Anthrax and L.A. Guns as well as being featured on international festivals including Wacken Open Air, Motörboat, Malmö Festival and the Monsters Of Rock cruise. They most recently shared their infectious live performance with audiences in December via a special livestream performance at the iconic Sunset Strip venue Whisky A Go Go which was aired across their socials as well as the equally famed Rainbow Bar and Grill’s networks in honor of Lemmy’s birthday which included a guest appearance and post-show Q&A panel from former MTV VJ and music personality Matt Pinfield.

Alt-metal Outfit AMERICAN TERROR Revive Rare House of Pain track “Legend” In New Music Video

DT: FEBRUARY 19, 2021

FM: KELLY WALSH, SRO PR

ALT-METAL OUTFIT
AMERICAN TERROR
REVIVE RARE HOUSE OF PAIN TRACK
WITH NEW COVER SINGLE/MUSIC VIDEO
“LEGEND”

WATCH HERE

Atlanta-based alt-metal outfit AMERICAN TERROR dug into the archives to revive the rare “Legend (Lethal Dose Remix)” track from hip hop group House of Pain, which was solely released on their 1994 EP Legend and never made available digitally. AMERICAN TERROR—which consists of drummer Rob Hammersmith (Skid Row) and Grayson Manor alumni vocalist Brad Cox, guitarist Pat Valley and bassist GK Via—add in their aggressive, unique brew of metal, punk, hard rock and rap to give the single a second chance to see the light of day with their hard-hitting cover out today, Friday, February 19. Watch the music video debut for “Legend” (streaming below) which highlights the track’s themes revolving around drug abuse, suicide and mental health issues, with tributes to several artists that have succumbed to those struggles in recent years.

“I chose this song because I always loved House Of Pain and hip hop” shares Cox, who also produced and mixed the track at the Lawrenceville, GA-based Black Paw Studios which he is a partner of with legendary producer Mike Clink (Guns N’ Roses, MegadethMetallica). “This song never got the credit it deserved. The subject matter still stands strong and relevant to everything going on in the world right now. The song tackles drug abuse and suicides, which given the current times, everyone is feeling the pain and struggle. We’ve lost too many talented people because of this and too many people in general.”

AMERICAN TERROR’s debut record Influencer was released last year by the EMP Label Group and has logged more than 250,000 Spotify streams which was led by singles “Judgement” and “She’s A B*tch.” Following its release, the band shared a genre-bending remix of “Judgement”—mastered by Glenn Schick (Lil Wayne, Future, Ludacris). The track features legendary rapper Sticky Fingaz, who is known for his group Onyx’s hit “Slam” as well as a guest appearance (“Remember Me”) on Eminem‘s classic The Marshall Mathers LP; he is also an award-winning ASCAP songwriter for his work with Travis Scott.

AMERICAN TERROR are currently tracking material for their sophomore release due later this year. Cox shares that they’ve “elevated the band to a new level and truly found their identity.” Stay tuned for further news on its release in the coming months.

TASH SULTANA Today Releases Their New Album ‘Terra Firma’

TASH SULTANA TODAY RELEASES
THEIR NEW ALBUM
TERRA FIRMA
LISTEN NOW

ARIA Award winner TASH SULTANA has today released their sophomore album, TERRA FIRMA, out now on Mom + Pop Music.

LISTEN TO TERRA FIRMA NOW

Having already given fans five tastes of the music one can expect on TERRA FIRMA (“Sweet & Dandy,” “Willow Tree” feat. Jerome Farah, “Greed,” “Beyond The Pine” and “Pretty Lady”), the album showcases 14 tracks that are recognisably TASH SULTANA, but its lyricism delves deeper, its impact more nuanced. The expansive “Coma” flows with vision, the evocative “Greed” proffers a soul-funk examination of the corrupting influence of wealth and fame. And the idyllic love song “Let The Light In” feels close and warm–“I’ve just found my one. She’s a golden gem,” they smile when they speak of their fiancé. “Sweet & Dandy” is a slinky indictment on the internet era’s information overload. “But where’s the wisdom? Where’s the knowledge?” TASH asks. “Vanilla Honey”–named after the two flavoured cigars gifted to TASH from their partner–is a tender ode to how love can centre us amidst the chaos.

TERRA FIRMA sees TASH bare their soul on two levels. Spiritually, it arrived in a time of global detachment and acted as a conduit to reconnect to their core selves–something TASH had been dismissing during strenuous global tours. And musically, where its 14 tracks take root into far-reaching sonic territory.

TASH has added to the looped and layered jams with a dazzling patchwork of soul, funk, R&B, folk, rock, hip-hop–you name it. The result is TASH’s most ambitious triumph to date. It’s Erykah Badu meets Bon Iver, meets John Mayer, meets whatever.”

Written and recorded over a full year, from October 2019 to October 2020, TERRA FIRMA saw TASH in full flight as they recorded, engineered, performed, arranged, and produced the album themselves. Four to six days a week were spent in their Melbourne studio, and just when TASH surpassed the 200-day mark on the project, it was done.

Presented with a title inspired by finding their home within themselves, TERRA FIRMA is the work of a more confident, dynamic, and experienced musician. The record was conceived amid a period of self-reflection when life was involuntarily slowed down amid a global pandemic. When TASH wasn’t in the studio, they found time for surfing, gardening, writing poetry and a healthy balance from the hectic touring lifestyle that defined their existence.

While TERRA FIRMA still cements the oft-used description of a “one-person band”, the record hosts a first for TASH SULTANA with four carefully chosen co-writers. TASH collaborated with fellow ARIA winners in artist Matt Corby and producer Dann Hume (Courtney Barnett, Amy Shark) on “Pretty Lady,” “Crop Circles,” “Beyond the Pine” and “Greed.” Meanwhile, “Willow Tree,” the nocturnal groover about get-rich-quick pyramid schemes, features TASH’s high school friend Jerome Farah. Farah is signed to TASH’s own Lonely Lands Agency, launched in 2019. Finally, “Dream My Life Away,”an ethereal, guitar-driven duet, was co-written with close friend Josh Cashman, who TASH tapped as their tour support through America in 2017.

For TASH SULTANA, artistic growth is paramount. It makes sense then, that the live shows for TERRA FIRMA will showcase TASH in a new light. “2020 was about recording and writing the music. And this year will be about creating the show and bringing it to people,” says TASH. “The new live show is everything the live show already was, plus a few things up my sleeve–but you’ll have to be there to understand,” they tease.

“I’ll always be solo,” TASH adds. “That will never, ever, ever change.”

For TERRA FIRMA, the goal seemed simple: to make music that comes from a place that’s unashamedly honest and ventures new territory. Because if it does, you’ll never fuck up,” TASH reflects. “I want to be an artist and make music non-stop, and just set the bar for myself every single time.… I just wanted to feel better, be better, perform better, play better, sing better. To be a better musician. And I think this record does that.”

ABOUT TASH SULTANA

Since dropping their debut album two years ago, TASH has only gone from strength to strength in a career already abundant with highlights. With over 1 billion total worldwide streams, has broken attendance records around the world including a sold out Red Rocks Amphitheatre, performing stand out sets at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Governor’s Ball, Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits and more, TASH has also made their US debut TV performance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.

In Australia, TASH’s debut album FLOW STATE was nominated for six ARIA Awards including winning the ARIA for Blues and Roots Album Of The Year and they undertook a massive sold out Australian headline tour with over 70,000 tickets around the country. “Jungle” and “Notion” are ARIA accredited 2x Platinum, whilst “Mystik,” “Murder to the Mind” and the NOTION EP all ARIA accredited Gold.

Inspired by Pink Floyd’s Live at Pompeii 1972 concert documentary film, LIVE IN THE MOJAVE DESERT: VOLUMES 1-5 kicked off their bi-weekly streams on January 23 which has so far included performances from San Diego-based krautrock trio EARTHLESS and stoner rock outfit NEBULA which includes ex-Fu Manchu member Eddie Glass. Here’s what some critics are saying about LIVE IN THE MOJAVE DESERT: VOLUME 1-5 experiences so far:

“The difference, of course, is the professional, concert-film level at which ‘Live in the Mojave Desert’ is executed. On a sheer production level, it’s unmatched by anything I’ve seen in the streaming era, and in the use of visual effects, Sam Grant‘s skillful, rhythmic editing, the inclusion of Mad Alchemy and the sense of urgency that’s driving the whole project, it is a rare positive marker for this time that has disintegrated the live music experience and perhaps changed it permanently.”
– The Obelisk, 2/8/21, Nebula Stream review

“The on-paper proposition doesn’t really do justice to actually seeing nighttime desert rocks painted with light while Earthless tear a hole in the galaxy as only they seem able to do…this series of five streams that Earthless kicked off is more than just a show to watch for would-be real-life attendees. Sitting in my living room on a cold January afternoon, it was pure sonic escapism…the fact of the matter is that even if gigs were happening, the Live in the Mojave Desert series would be something incredible to witness.”
– My Rock News, 1/25/21, Earthless Stream Review

“Be under no false impression, this is a musical experience like no other. From the early portions of the stream that has interviews, discussions about the difficulties of filming in the Mojave Desert and music from a wide array of stoner, doom and psych bands. Often with trippy visuals as the backdrop to get you in that psychedelic mood.”

Madame X’s “Creem Dreem” Photo Shoot Idea

One of my early publicity clients in the biz at Michael Levine PR was Detroit metal act Madame X (thanks to Don Arden and Pat Siciliano at Jet Records). I needed a solid national look to turn folks onto their 1984 debut album, so I pitched Creem magazine the idea of a photo shoot for their “Creem Dreem” section with the band’s sisters Maxine Petrucci and Roxy Petrucci…and, yep, President Ronald Reagan. I somehow got permission from the Hollywood Wax Museum to do the shoot with their wax figure of Reagan one morning before it opened. Maxine and Roxy, with their gloriously teased hair and tons of make-up, cozied up to the conservative President, touching his face and neck and happily mugging for Robert Matheu’s camera. It was one of the best photo ops I ever set, but I was disappointed that we were not sued by the White House.
