Harlem River Serenade is the third single/video from LORNE BEHRMAN’s solo debut album A LITTLE MIDNIGHT out this Friday, September 16 on Spaghetty Town Records. Look for the NYC punk rock n’ roll singer-songwriter-guitarist to celebrate the album’s release that night with a show at Arlene’s Grocery on the Lower East Side. LORNE will hit the stage with a 7-piece band featuring two backup singers at 9:30pm.

“Harlem River Serenade” is a slice of dirty and catchy rock n’ roll scrapped off of the streets of the Bowery, merged with imagery-rich lyrics about moving on from a busted-up romance. Today, LORNE has shared the David J Barron-directed video that was filmed at various locations in NYC including Arlene’s Grocery. Watch the video HERE. The “Harlem River Serenade” single/video was premiered yesterday (September 13) by New Noise.

Below is a Q&A with LORNE, who previously played in The Dimestore Haloes, L.E.S. Stitches, The Dead Tricks and most recently The Sweet Things, about the “Harlem River Serenade” single/video. View the song’s credits + lyrics here.

The 10-song A LITTLE MIDNIGHT is a series of New York City vignettes haunted by shadows but guided by light. The words here are literate and lacerating, recalling the street poetics of Lou Reed, Richard Hell, and Television. The songs feature stark and fluid guitar playing in the spirit of The Stooges’ James Williamson, Johnny Thunders, and Lou Reed. It follows LORNE’s acclaimed 2021 four-song EP When I Hit The Floor, which prompted the esteemed Jesse Malin to note: “Real blood and guts rock and roll that bleeds with soul and redemption.”

A LITTLE MIDNIGHT’s raw but polished production aesthetic is courtesy of producer Matt Chiaravalle (Warren Zevon, Joe Bonamassa, Spacehog). A Little Midnight was mastered by Grammy-nominated engineer Joe Lambert. Wyldlife bassist Spencer Alexander designed the album artwork, and it is a subtly playful homage to the cover of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ Damn the Torpedoes.

“This album is about struggling to be reborn,” LORNE shares. “Wanting to run back to the arms of toxic people or the patterns of self-destruction. It’s about clawing your way to a new existence while acknowledging all the causalities, and all you’re letting go. You glimpse a new life, but you don’t feel it yet.”

“Harlem River Serenade” comes on the heels of the album’s first two singles/ videos, the most recent of which was I Hope The Sun Doesn’t Catch Us.” MXDWN noted that “…[the video] gives viewers an incredible sight of Behrman strumming his guitar with fantastic talent and singing about hoping that the sun doesn’t catch us, as we follow a man and woman on the streets of New York trying to get away from the sun that is blaring down on them.” “I Hope The Sun Doesn’t Catch Us” was preceded by the single/video for “A Little Midnight.” Glide raved about how the song “features a blackened riff howl of punk bands like The Damned and The Gun Club mixed with pop sensibilities of The Replacements. When Behrman sings “A little midnight/ it’s alright/A little midnight/does you right,” listeners get a gracious sense of rock and roll escapism at its most pure form.”

Read LORNE’s bio here.

Q&A with LORNE BEHRMAN ABOUT THE SINGLE/VIDEO
“HARLEM RIVER SERENADE”

Can you describe your mindset when writing the song and being very honest about a busted-up romance with these vivid lyrics?

Maybe this is my “I Will Survive” song? Before I met my wife, I went through a painful breakup. It felt so sudden and so cold, and I spent so much of my time obsessing about it. I would be on the train to pick up my daughter and feel impulses to reach out to this person. Everything outside the window felt like metaphorical magical thinking. I would try to find some sign that things would have a fairytale ending. The lyric, “Looking out/to factories as planters/green reaching through bricks/No hope there/we’re shattered/like broken bottles on train tracks,” for me, meant that an old factory outside the window was a metaphor for the relationship and maybe the green—the plants and such—reclaiming it were showing me a sign that there was some hope after all.

Suffice to say, there is a good ending, here. I endured the pain, did a lot of self-improvement stuff (read a lot about co-dependence and radical acceptance), and took a year off dating. My first date back was with the most loving and badass person ever, my wife. That other person reached to me once more, and I decided to move on. The message here is when you decide not to be involved with people who don’t know your worth the Universe sends you better people.

This marks your sixth video overall + third for the upcoming album. It was shot at, and around, your recent gig at the Arlene’s Grocery venue on the Lower East Side.  What did you feel was important for director David J Baron to portray in the video?

When I decided to pursue a solo career, I was unconfident, I was hurting, and I was angry. My heart was closed off—I felt like it was me against people, and I had something to prove. I don’t feel that way anymore. I have a solo band I love, I’m so proud of this album, and there are so many kind people who have helped me and believed in me along the way.

I wanted David to capture this joy I feel, and he’s such a creative and intuitive person. There is a vibe around this solo project—I’m so blessed to have this—and I just hoped it would naturally come through. We had one show booked, and that meant one chance to get this video right. As something of a new artist, you don’t know how a show will be: will we play okay? will people come? So many unknowns! I decided to just let go and believe in the music, and my honest intention to connect with people. The night went magically. It was packed, people danced to songs they hadn’t heard before, and I just felt so happy. It felt like a rebirth for me—like I fought through a lot of darkness and came out the other side.

Perhaps you can talk about the thrill of being onstage and in such an intimate venue?

When I was in my early 20s, I remember seeing a band play that I loved. They were headlining at Coney Island High, and I said, “aren’t you guys excited?” The singer said, “not really.” He was in his mid-20s and already so jaded! I vowed that night I would never be that way. I started playing in punk clubs and bars when I was 19, and I’ve never lost the excitement that I had before my first show. I’ve hit some cool career highpoints, and I have had to start over many, many times—it’s humbling—but I always get back up and bounce back. Playing small clubs packed with people who get what you do is just electric. That feeling of “we’re in this together” outside of what’s massively popular feels like you’re part of this little in-the-know family. Like here’s a place you belong—there’s nothing like it.

The video definitely embodies “NYC.” As a New York-based artist, what are your feelings about the city these days since cities are always in a state of flux? What do you see when you look around?

Like a lot of people, I’ve seen many rock n’ roll civilizations decimated by commerce—luxury high rise buildings ousting nightclubs. But I’ve also seen musicians just find new clubs and build new communities. You can’t live in the past—it’s not good for the soul or good for music. Years ago, there were CBGBs, The Great Gildersleeves, and Max’s Kansas City; then Coney Island High and The Continental; and now there is Bowery Electric, Baby’s Allright, Arlene’s Grocery, and so many great clubs deep in Brooklyn. The music is there, the people are there, and the bands are playing loud and fast. I just keep going. New York is still open, and rock n’ roll still feels vital here.

The track listing for A LITTLE MIDNIGHT is:

01 – Love Stumbles By
02 – Harlem River Serenade
03 – I Can Burn You Down
04 – Monday Morning
05 – Well, I Can’t Hold You

THE AMERICANA/ALT-COUNTRY ARTIST
ANNOUNCES UPCOMING NASHVILLE SHOWS &
RECORD RELEASE SHOW
10/22 @ HOTEL CAFÉ IN LOS ANGELES

FOLLOWING RELEASE OF DEBUT SOLO ALBUM ‘THE NORTH FORK’
OUT NOW
VIA BLACKBIRD RECORD LABEL

For the third single/video from her debut solo album THE NORTH FORK which came out this past Friday, September 9, Americana/alt-country singer-songwriter, bassist and Blackbird Record Label artist DEB MORRISON today (September 14) takes listeners and viewers to the “Salton Sea.” The haunting and mysterious video was shot at the deserted ghost town of the Salton Sea in California which was once was a popular 1950s vacation spot for celebrities. Watch the video HERE or streaming below and listen to the song/album HERE. DEB will perform two shows this weekend in Nashville: The Buzz show on September 15 at Acme Feed & Seed and American Roots Saturday on 9/17 at Dee’s Lounge before returning to California for a record release show in Los Angeles at Hotel Café on October 22.

The “Salton Sea” video was premiered yesterday by Glide Magazine which wrote: “If there was ever a video that so rightfully placed the aura, meaning, and soul of a composition into video form, it has to be that of Deb Morrison’s solicitous and majestic new tune ‘Salton Sea.’ Morrison’s vibrant Americana rustic-tinged vocals carry the tune with a valiant cinematographic flair reminiscent of Lydia Loveless and Lilly Hiatt.”

Salton Sea” stars MORRISON’s daughter, Cameron Littell, and was co-directed by MORRISON and cinematographer Nic Capelle of Rockton Road studios who also produced THE NORTH FORK.

“I’ve always been fascinated by the surreal, cinematic pull of the Salton Sea and had to shoot there,” reveals the Los Angeles-based MORRISON. “It was a three-hour drive to get to what looks like an ocean in the middle of the desert. The visuals were stunning, and eerily apocalyptic in a beautiful way. It’s a real-life Twilight Zone.”

“We had beer for lunch at the once infamous, (now very empty) Ski Inn. I still have the ripped guest check the bartender ‘Scheherazade Jones’ gave me with her phone number on it. The only other person in the bar was a weathered looking gentleman seated on a corner barstool. He reluctantly let me snap a few portraits of him. I can still picture his face perfectly. We didn’t see many people there, but the few we did had faces like his. Faces you can’t forget. We left wanting more time to peer into the mystery of the whole place, but something was telling us to move along before dark.”

Discussing the song’s meaning, MORRISON shares, “The song is about having a broken heart. The Salton Sea visually looks like a broken heart to me. You can actually feel it when you’re there. The former magical, vibrant lake resort in the middle of the desert is now a ghost town sprinkled with haunting remnants of what used to be. What appears to be inviting sandy white beaches are actually shorelines made up of crushed fish bones. It has all the physical elements of shattered hopes and dreams.”

The first two singles/videos from THE NORTH FORK were the title track “The North Fork,” premiered in July at Americana UK, and the subsequent Blackbird which starred actor Todd Lowe (“True Blood,” “Gilmore Girls”), premiered in August via The Bluegrass Situation.

THE NORTH FORK contains the same mix of cinematic storytelling and smoky, sultry delivery and is a melting-pot of American roots music that blurs the boundaries between alt-country, Americana, and roadhouse rock & roll. The album highlights MORRISON’s time spent traveling during childhood as the daughter of an Air Force Colonel emphasizing her fondness for California’s vivid scenery and ghost-town landscapes. Its title is a nod to the nostalgic town located at the convergence of the North and South Forks of the American River which she considers her home base and was the setting for the music video for its first single “The North Fork.”

A longtime bass player and singer/songwriter, MORRISON cut her teeth in alt-rock bands like Daisychain and Swing before forming her own Americana band, Morrison & Company, in 2015. She also plays in The Wild West, an all-female supergroup featuring modern-day icons of Southern California’s roots community. THE NORTH FORK makes room for all of those influences, while also highlighting the evocative lyrics of a visually-minded songwriter. Read a Q&A with MORRISON at Vents Magazine which hailed THE NORTH FORK as “Lovely and spellbinding album…an incredible cocktail of different music genres–Americana, rock and roll and alt-country.”

Zeppola Cafe Hits Your Sweet Spot at The Venetian

Having never tasted one before, I’m now all about this bombolone, which was my lunch yesterday at the new Zeppola Cafe in St. Mark’s Square at The Venetian.  I told the gal working behind the counter that I absolutely loved this Italian cream-filled doughnut, and voila…she gave me, for free, one to go plus two other treats. Now how’s that for hospitality?

This is the first Vegas outpost of the Zeppola Bakery in midtown NYC, and I trust they will find great success here. This is truly a cool + inviting dessert spot (with inside + outside seating) at the seductively lit St. Mark’s Square, where it is always magic hour.

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and Grammy®-winning singer and songwriter OZZY OSBOURNE will perform at halftime of the Los Angeles Rams season opener on Thursday, September 8 at SoFi Stadium. The performance comes on the eve of the release of Osbourne’s new PATIENT NUMBER 9 album out September 9 on Epic.

To kick off the 2022 season, the Los Angeles Rams will host the Buffalo Bills in the Rams’ first game at SoFi Stadium since winning Super Bowl LVI in February. The new album marks the first release since Osbourne critically acclaimed, worldwide, chart-topping 2020 ORDINARY MAN. Produced by Andrew Watt (who handled the same duties on ORDINARY MAN), the new album marks Osbourne’s 13th solo studio album. It’s heavy, it’s hard-hitting, it’s historic–it’s everything you’d want from an OZZY Osbourne record and maybe more. Working with producer Watt for the second time, OZZY welcomed a dynamic A-list featured guests. For the first time ever, Black Sabbath co-founder, guitarist, and riff-master Tony Iommi appears on an OZZY solo album. The record also boasts guitarists Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, and longstanding righthand man and six-string beast Zakk Wylde who plays on the majority of the tracks. For the bulk of the album, Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers held down drums, while the late Taylor Hawkins of Foo Fighters appears on three songs. Old friend and one-time OZZY band member Robert Trujillo of Metallica plays bass on most of the album’s tracks, with Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses and Chris Chaney of Jane’s Addiction supplying bass on a few songs.

Hailing from Mongolia, THE HU have combined traditional music and instrumentation performed in their native language using native instrumentation with Western modern rock stylings to create a unique and catchy sound they have labelled as “Hunnu Rock.” The acclaimed rock outfit have today, September 2, unleashed their anticipated second official studio album RUMBLE OF THUNDER via Better Noise Music alongside the music video for the track “Bie Biyelegee.” In this lively video, THE HU can be seen dancing in the traditional Mongolian style of “biyelgee.”

“’Bie Biyelgee’ is about having a good time,” share THE HU. “We danced like we never danced before during the video shoot and the movements where we tried to imitate biyelgee were very challenging. The biyelgee movements require a different skill set than you would find in any dance genre so in that way, celebrating these qualities are fascinating and inspiring to us.”

THE HU are currently touring in support of RUMBLE OF THUNDER across the U.S. alongside Five Finger Death Punch and Megadeth until October 15, after which they finish off the year with a headlining run throughout Europe and the U.K. Earlier this year, THE HU hopped across the globe on their “Black Thunder” tour which included stops at Coachella (USA), Fuji Rock Festival (Japan) and headlining shows all over North America, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Find a list of all upcoming shows and ticket information HERE.

Five Finger Death Punch’s Zoltan Bathory shared his thoughts on the band via Instagram, “The Hu is out on the road with us – great band from Mongolia – you gotta check them out. I’m a Hun, so from the anthropologic perspective they are my cousins.”

Across its 12 tracks, RUMBLE OF THUNDER connects the world to Mongolian culture and its unique core values of natural preservation and spiritual connection with the earth. These core values are on full display in the album along with deeply meaningful lyrics that uplift Mongol people, as the band wishes for prosperity and peace among all. The band shared the eco-conscious debut single, “This Is Mongol,” in May which has since received over 3 million video views and over 1.6 million Spotify streams. In July, they revealed an epic action-packed music video for the first half of their nine-minute track “Black Thunder” before sharing its second equally tantalizing sequel in mid-August.

“‘Rumble of Thunder’ extends the variety of songs that the Hunnu Rock genre has and focuses on bringing new playing techniques that would sound unique and add more hard rock components to the songs,” THE HU state. “It was quite fun to record and most importantly, we had so much time to play and choose the best versions. Creative space and time are crucial, so we are very grateful to our friends and families who had our backs during the lengthy process. We also feel very much in sync in terms of understanding and complementing each other during performance. You will find that we have become an even closer unit in this album with many new surprises.”

About THE HU

In 2019, an NPR story put a spotlight on “a band from Mongolia that blends the screaming guitars of heavy metal and traditional Mongolian guttural singing,” accurately highlighting the cultural importance and unique musical identity of THE HU. Founded in 2016 in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, THE HU, Gala, Jaya, Temka, and Enkush, are a modern rock group rooted in the tradition of their homeland. The band’s two most popular videos, “Yuve Yuve” and “Wolf Totem,” were produced by the band’s producer Dashka. The band’s name translates to the Mongolian root word for human being, and their unique approach blends instruments like the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp) and throat singing with contemporary sounds, creating a unique sonic profile that they call “Hunnu Rock.”

Their debut album, 2019 ‘s The Gereg, debuted at #1 on the World Album and Top New Artist Charts. With it, the band have accumulated over 250 million combined streams and video views to date and have received critical acclaim from the likes of Billboard, NPR, GQ, The Guardian, The Independent, Revolver, and even Sir Elton John himself.

Proving their global appeal, THE HU have sold out venues across the world in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia, with scheduled festival appearances at Coachella, Lollapalooza, Download Festival, and more, creating a community of fans from all walks of life. They quickly grabbed the attention of the industry, leading to collaborations with Jacoby Shaddix of Papa Roach and Lzzy Hale of Halestorm. And most recently, the band received praise from fans and critics for their Mongolian rendition of Metallica’s “Sad But True,” which Metallica picked up on and invited them to record ‘Through The Never’ for their Metallica Blacklist album released in 2021 alongside other high-profile guest artists like Miley Cyrus, Chris Stapleton, Phoebe Bridgers, J Balvin, St. Vincent, and so many more. The band has also explored eclectic ways to reach audiences with their sound, most notably writing and recording music for EA Games’ Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order.
