Los Angeles’ modern rock’n’roll outfit BUDDERSIDE, signed to Motörhead Music by the late Motörhead vocalist Lemmy Kilmister, return four years after their 2016 self-titled debut with a reinvigorated lineup and a scorching new sophomore effort, SPIRITUAL VIOLENCE. Scheduled for release on March 26 via Motörhead Music/Silver Lining Music. SPIRITUAL VIOLENCE was recorded with legendary producer Jay Baumgardner (Bush, Godsmack, Papa Roach) and mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Howie Weinberg (Nirvana, The Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage). It also includes guest features by Carla Harvey (Butcher Babies), Phil Campbell (Motörhead) and the Musyca Children’s Choir.
BUDDERSIDE yesterday (December 3) premiered the mystical music video for the debut single “Zen” with MXDWN who stated, “the song brings a razor-sharp, hard-edged but radio-ready guitar riff and Stone’s alt-rock crooner vocals.” The video was filmed at various locations in Tokyo, Japan and alludes to overcoming one’s demons with reference to fabled Japanese monsters. “We went all the way to Tokyo to bring an authentic experience to our fans,” shares BUDDERSIDE vocalist/founder PATRICK STONE. “When I think of Zen, I imagine monks, bonsai trees, waterfalls, and temples. While the song was written in a complete state of Zen, the video finds us being seduced by desire and lured into a den of evil, from which there is no escape. The nightmare of Kuchisake-onna, Kappa, Rokurokubi and Gashadokuro come to life before your very eyes. It reaches out to those who are unable to find Zen due to the demons that chase us always getting in the way and shows how we must find a way to escape them in order to find inner peace.”

BUDDERSIDE was formed by STONE following stints fronting Adler’s Appetite and working as a roadie for Lemmy/Motörhead. His own project was supported by Lemmy who personally signed him to Motörhead Music and kickstarted the band’s career. The band immediately hit the road with their infectious live show and appeared on tours alongside Motörhead, Slayer, Anthrax and L.A. Guns as well as being featured on international festivals including Wacken Open Air, Motörboat, Malmö Festival and the Monsters Of Rock cruise.

CDWA RECORDS and the California Desert Wizards Association (CDWA)—known for their annual Joshua Tree live music festival/generator party Stoned and Dusted—will present a world premiere livestream concert film series highlighting the California Desert Rock scene, LIVE IN THE MOJAVE DESERT: VOLUMES 1-5. Inspired by Pink Floyd’s Live at Pompeii 1972 concert documentary film, the series will consist of five concert streams featuring five albums from five bands as well as including visuals by Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show filmed and recorded from the natural amphitheater of California’s Mojave Desert. Each event will last two hours which will include an hour long “Couchlock and Rock” session featuring a chat hosted by the California Desert Wizards alongside special guests including band members and icons from the California Desert Rock scene—think if MTV in the 80’s was run by heshers and stoners. The second hour will feature the 1080p HD livestream concert film experience. The band lineup includes:

“In October 2020 we filmed and recorded five bands in four days, deep in the deep sand and iconic rocks of the desert,” shares LIVE IN THE MOJAVE DESERT producer RYAN JONES. “It was a major undertaking to bring this many people and this much gear out to a very remote desert location. Including the bands, we had 25 people onsite daily. With only one road in, everyone and all the gear had to come up a half mile long hill of deep sand–30 miles from nowhere. We had to hire local desert guys with huge 4×4 pickups to help. The Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show projected on a four-story high, double pyramid of boulders and we had a crack squad of filmmakers, photographers and recording engineers there to capture it all. It was insane, but it was worth it to see our favorite bands play again!”

The highly anticipated new project from acclaimed guitarist GEORGE LYNCH (Dokken, Lynch Mob), THE BANISHMENT, has today premiered their debut single “Lost Horizon” pegged to the launch of an Indiegogo campaign to assist with the funding for the recording and manufacturing of their self-titled debut album scheduled for release in early 2021. Self-proclaimed as “dream punk,” THE BANISHMENT is a collaborative effort formed by LYNCH with programmer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist JOE HAZE. The idea for THE BANISHMENT has been years in the making for LYNCH to further push his creativity into darker, subliminal and chaotic territories. To accomplish this, he teamed up with HAZE over five years ago, who in addition to being the live guitarist for Lords of Acid, is known in the industry for his work producing/co-producing, mixing and engineering for acts including Sublime, 8MM, Raymond Watts (PIG), Chuck Mosely, David Archuleta, Jedd Moss (Air Supply), Gladys Knight and television networks such as ESPN and National Geographic.
Following multiple failed attempts auditioning vocalists, THE BANISHMENT was close to being shelved until through a series of chance meetings and connections HAZE was introduced to DEVIX AKA at the 2019 Cold Waves Music Festival; he had been grinding his teeth against metal in the Los Angeles underground with acts including The Narcosis Design and Symbolism (featuring original members of Christian Death & Samhain) under the “dream punk” genre.
THE BANISHMENT has since been collectively working around the unpredictable covid-19 lockdown restrictions to record “Lost Horizon” and will continue to work on material for the forthcoming full-length debut. With the indoor capacity of Las Vegas restaurants + bars reduced to 25% right now, my wife Rana + I went out last night to support two local businesses. We started with excellent dim sum at Orchids Garden (they serve it all day) + then moved on to the best bar in the land: the tropical-themed The Golden Tiki in Chinatown, with a very smart DJ, Rex Dart, spinning smokin’ rarities from different eras that extended the buzz of our drinks (the tequila-driven “Tiki-LA Sunrise” + the cachaca-fueled “Strawberry Batida”). Both the restaurant + bar closely adhered to social distancing + masking-when-necessary rules, for which we applaud them.

“This is a fun little compilation of bands I love,” says PSYCHOSEXUAL founder and spiritual leader JEREMY SPENCER, whose DEVIL DADDY persona fronts the fantasy and horror-inspired follow-up to his multi-platinum former band FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. “There is definitely a tongue-in-cheek creepiness to the themes that tie the songs together, and that’s what made them so much fun to record. The EP also reunites SPENCER with former FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist JASON HOOK, who contributes solos on the KISS classic “Watchin’ You” and QUEENSRYCHE’s “Gonna Get Close To You.” The recordings mark the first time the pair have worked together since both parted ways with 5FDP.

In addition to dropping the EP, PSYCHOSEXUAL have also released promotional videos for all six tracks. “The opportunity to write, create, produce, shoot videos and release albums on my own label during these uncertain days is an incredible accomplishment under months of lockdown and fear,” says SPENCER, who was a founding member and co-writer in 5FDP.
PSYCHOSEXUAL released their debut album TORCH THE FAITH on July 31. Like the EP, it was co-produced by SPENCER and SHAWN MCGHEE (Drowning Pool) and released via SPENCER’s 6eX Records. The debut premiered at #150 on the Billboard Top Albums chart, reaching #5 on the Hard Music Albums, #12 on Top New Artist Albums and #30 on Current Rock Albums.
To celebrate Halloween, the band released an Anime-inspired video for “I Want To Be The Blood In Your Cut,” which featured a chorus sung by SPENCER in Japanese. The album version of the track is all in English and features a solo from TYPE O NEGATIVE guitarist KENNY HICKEY.
“This year has been uniquely challenging for all of us, to say the least, but releasing ‘TORCH THE FAITH’ has been a dream come true,” says SPENCER, who sports a Mephistophelian mask as DEVIL DADDY, and is joined in the band by guitarist CRUCIFER, bassist ASTAROTH and drummer VOLAC. “I’m a fan of so many types of music – from DAVID BOWIE to DEVO to black metal – and PSYCHOSEXUAL is the outlet I’ve needed to bring all these things together in one big evil stew. After an unprecedented year for all, Australian multi-instrumentalist TASH SULTANA is excited to return to the stage with a November 28 concert and livestream from the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney, Australia. The show, part of the Great Southern Nights initiative in partnership with ARIA and the NSW government, will benefit Support Act. The performance will air live on YouTube at 9:00 PM(AEDT)/5:00 AM (ET)/2:00 AM (PT), with the set emaining online for a limited time, so fans around the world are able to view it. Proud to be a member of the The Neon Museum Boneyard—for me, the happiest place on earth. A recent addition to museum—which preserves classic Las Vegas neon— is the towering Hard Rock Café guitar sign. Back in 1990, I was at the Hard Rock Cafe’s opening with then-client Aerosmith when they went up in a cherry picker to christen the sign and then performed in a tent outside. The Hard Rock Hotel subsequently opened in 1995 and closed this past February to make way for an eventual Virgin Hotel. “Baby, things change…” to quote Dwight Yoakam.
