TOMMY EMMANUEL is an acoustic guitarist extraordinaire, composer, global touring artist, and Grammy® Award winner. He’s also one of five people ever to be named a C.G.P. (Certified Guitar Player) by Chet Atkins, the great innovator, songwriter, producer, record company executive, and visionary.

Today (January 9), TOMMY has unveiled “Gdansk/Tall Fiddler,” two songs combined as one track from his upcoming album LIVE AT THE SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE (C.G.P. Sounds) that’s due out March 21. “Here’s an example of two songs that were written almost 20 years apart that fit quite nicely together,” says TOMMY. “One was written in Poland and the other backstage at a bluegrass festival. What a crazy world we all live in!”

The release of “Gdansk/Tall Fiddler” follows the 16-track album’s first offering last year, “The Jolly Swagman.” “I wrote ‘The Jolly Swagman’ for an imaginary character,” says TOMMY, “who makes us all happy by clicking his heels in the air while playing the concertina!!”

EMMANUEL is no stranger to iconic stages from Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium to London’s Royal Festival Hall and Paris’ L’Olympia. The legendary entertainer has dazzled audiences across the world. But there’s something truly magical about the Sydney Opera House, and the magic of his sold-out performances there has finally been captured on this new EMMANUEL-produced album. It features 16 tracks, four of which are medleys, including his famous “Beatles Medley” (a previous live version of this has been viewed more than 2 million times on YouTube).

“The moment and power in these hours spent playing music, is perfectly preserved here on this record,” says TOMMY. “I hope you can feel the intensity of our musical and spiritual relationship… a bond built on a life freely given to all.”

He played two spellbinding shows on the Concert Hall stage in May 2023, with the best of both performances represented here. The setlist showcases the most beloved songs of TOMMY’s career—classic compositions like “Tall Fiddler,” “Mombasa,” and “Country Wide,” recent fan favorites like “Fuel” and “Sail On,” his now iconic arrangement of “Classical Gas,” and his thrilling “Beatles Medley.”

“As a 15-year-old boy living in Circular Quay, I spent many a time walking past the Opera House,” he says. “I would daydream about what it must be like in there, what it would be like to perform there. After fifty years in the business, we finally got there!”

“Playing the shows for this recording was a dream come true for me,” TOMMY adds. “I felt so ready! I was surrounded by my team of brilliant people, and I was looking into the faces of so many loving and happy fans in the concert Hall. The momentum and power in these hours spent playing music, is perfectly captured and preserved here on this record. In this candid conversation, available via the platform’s “Shot Talk” YouTube channel, Preston dives into his remarkable career, from his early days in New York to becoming the official photographer for legends like Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, and many others. Recalls Preston about how he got to work with Led Zeppelin in 1975: “I was asked, do you still want that job with Led Zeppelin, I said yeah, and he (Danny Goldberg) said ‘get ready to go to Chicago!’ The Rolling Stones got all the press…meanwhile Led Zeppelin is eating The Rolling Stones for lunch every day…saw them both in 75 and Rolling Stones were nothing compared to Led Zeppelin.”

How to be a photographer on the road? “There was no instruction manual on how to deal with this job,” explains Preston. “Don’t act like you’re in the band because you are not. If you act like you’re in the band, the thing slipped under your door is a one-way ticket home—it ain’t going to be the room list for tomorrow.”

Looking back at his work with Queen—especially their 1985 “Live Aid” performance—Preston says: “I’m up there with Queen…and I didn’t know it was going to be the most famous 25-minute gig in history!” He adds: “Freddie Mercury’s favorite thing in the world was being Freddie Mercury!”

Multi-platinum hard rock titans FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH made history with “This Is the Way,” featuring legendary hip-hop artist DMX, by extending their previous record of holding the longest streak of #1’s in Billboard’s Mainstream rock chart’s history, making it their 11^th straight #1 hit. Featured on the Afterlife: Deluxe album, the single marks DMX’s first-ever appearance on the chart altogether.
Electrifying rock powerhouse NOTHING MORE landed two #1 singles from their 2024 release CARNAL (June 28) with “IF IT DOESN’T HURT” and “ANGEL SONG (feat. David Draiman of Disturbed).” This year also saw the band achieve Gold-certification for their 2017 2x Grammy-nominated single “Go To War.”
Breakthrough emo rockers THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT–who were just announced as one of Pandora’s Artists to Watch 2025: The Pandora Ten– have had a dynamic year, landing their first-ever #1 single “Suffocate City (feat. Spencer Charnas of Ice Nine Kills)” from their 2024 album Greetings From Suffocate City (Sept 13). The band celebrated the achievement with a sold-out hometown show in Atlanta, GA after spending the year on their first-ever arena tour opening for Five Finger Death Punch in addition to festival appearances at Aftershock and Louder Than Life, and a tour with The Hu.

Loudwire included three of the above #1 tracks in their “67 Best Rock + Metal Songs of 2024” list: FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH’s “This Is The Way (feat. DMX),” THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT’s “Suffocate City (feat. Spencer Charnas),” and NOTHING MORE’s “ANGEL SONG (feat. British rock outfit ASKING ALEXANDRIA released two EP’s, Dark Void (Jan. 12) and Where Do We Go From Here? The Remixes (Oct. 18) while touring across North America on the second leg of their headlining “All My Friends” tour.
Explosive alt-metal outfit FROM ASHES TO NEW released a deluxe version of their #1-charting 2023 album, Blackout which features their #2 Mainstream rock charting single “Barely Breathing (feat. Chrissy Costanza).” The band set out on a relentless tour schedule including their headlining “The Blackout Tour Pt. 2” run, alongside jaunts with Nothing More and Set It Off while also making festival appearances at Upheaval, Inkcarceration, Louder Than Life, and Aftershock.
Mongolian rock sensation THE HU showed off their live chops with THE HU LIVE AT GLASTONBURY (June 7), recorded at their groundbreaking debut performance at the legendary Glastonbury festival in 2023. THE HU delivered their unparalleled and immersive performance on an arena tour as direct support to rock legends Iron Maiden across North America, along with releasing their “hunnu rock” style version of “The Trooper.”
Alt rock group FINISH TICKET released their sophomore album Echo Afternoon (Sept. 6), The album takes listeners on an emotional roller coaster narrating the struggles and anxiety of being stuck in limbo while trying to find an escape to a brighter future.
CROSSBONE SKULLY brought the legendary Mutt Lange (AC/DC, Def Leppard) out of retirement to executive produce their debut record Evil World Machine (Nov. 22). Founded and fronted by Tommy Henriksen (Alice Cooper, Hollywood Vampires), the band celebrated its release with two sold-out shows at the iconic Viper Room in West Hollywood, CA.
Genre blending artist CORY MARKS released his second album, Sorry For Nothing (Dec. 6), which embraces his hard-working, hard-partying spirit with 13 songs equally divided between arena-rock and roots country. Its single “(Make My) Country Rock” featuring Sully Erna of Godsmack, Travis Tritt and Mick Mars is currently climbing up the Top 20 on the Active Rock radio charts.

Rock’n’roll band RIVAL SONS’ live concert album PAIR OF ACES: LIVE FROM SANTA CATALINA ISLAND (PART 2) is out today on both YouTube and all audio streaming platforms. It features the performance of their 2010 self-titled EP which was recorded by 9x GRAMMY Award-winning producer Dave Cobb and led to the band first being signed. It includes fan-favorite tracks such as “Get What’s Coming,” “Torture,” “Radio,” “Sacred Tongue,” and “Soul.” The YouTube premiere will be followed by a live Q&A/afterparty with frontman Jay Buchanan and guitarist Scott Holiday at 2:00 P.M. In June 2021, RIVAL SONS delivered two live performances from Catalina Island, CA which were streamed via VEEPS to fans at home across the world, many of whom were still in lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Both performances are available to stream visually and digitally for the first time. PAIR OF ACES: LIVE FROM SANTA CATALINA ISLAND (PART 1) features the full performance of their 2009 album Before The Fire was released in November. Drummer Michael Miley states: “Night two of our trip to Catalina Island! We set up in the historic Avalon theater and it was like we were transported to another era. The theater has insane old school acoustics. You can hear someone whisper from 90 feet away like they’re directly in your ear; it was nostalgic. And dusting off the EP, especially during a pandemic, was a respite as well as a funky good time!”

Holiday elaborates on both releases: “In recognition of the 10-year anniversary of our first 2 albums, we played each album in its entirety over 2 different nights. One night in the ballroom (in the round!) performing Before the Fire, and the next night we played the self-titled record in the old movie theatre. It was every bit as cool and interesting as I’d hoped. A real honor and pleasure to fill this beautiful place with sound. The director did a great job capturing it for everyone to share in the experience with us and now it will be available to listen and watch anytime you’d like.”
