Galvanizing modern classic rock trio THE BLACK MOODS are excited to announce their new single, an electrifying cover of The Doors’ 1970’s hit “Roadhouse Blues,” which features none other than The Doors’ guitarist Robby Krieger himself and rock singer-songwriter Diamante. The track will be available digitally Friday, October 20; pre-save it HERE. Recorded at Krieger’s Los Angeles studio, Love Street Sound, the band recorded the cover with most of the same gear used by The Doors in its original recording, keeping its nostalgic and gritty sound while allowing THE BLACK MOODS to add their modern flair. THE BLACK MOODS—JOSH KENNEDY (vocals, guitar), CHICO DIAZ (drums), and JORDAN HOFFMAN (bass)—have today (October 19) debuted the music video for “Roadhouse Blues (feat. “The Doors have meant a lot to us, from our band name to the way we approach playing and songwriting,” shares KENNEDY. “Getting to record this song with Robby 53 years after he recorded it with The Doors is something I can’t describe…just unbelievable. Having Diamante add her incredible vocals on it just took it over the top.”

“Lately, I seem to meet more and more young muscians who are into The Doors,” says KRIEGER. “It was really fun recording ‘Roadhouse Blues’ with The Black Moods. They seem to connect with 60’s style music.”

“‘Roadhouse Blues’ was the first rock song I ever performed on a stage, so when The Black Moods, whose classic rock vibe I really dig, asked if I wanted to sing on their version alongside THE Robby Krieger, it was an absolute yes from me,” exclaims Diamante. “Recording the song was a very full circle moment and an all-around epic experience.”

THE BLACK MOODS have partnered with Gibson to host a guitar giveaway contest surrounding the single for an Epiphone hand-signed guitar by all three band members, Robby Krieger, and Diamante. On recording her new EP with Kevin Thrasher, CHLOE adds: “Working with Thrasher was a musical awakening because I finally found someone who understood me musically. He was able to really push me to the next level as an artist and I am so grateful for that. His process is so admirable. Being able to watch how he works puts a lot into perspective when it comes to production. Also, it was just so much fun being in the studio with him!”

CHLOE released her debut single “Element” in January and soon followed it up with “Straight Girls” in March which garnered over 64K YouTube views. “Straight Girls” was praised by Earmilk for exploring her sexuality with “honest and empowering production” and its “lush electro-pop vocal lines laid over catchy instrumentals framed by trap-infused beats” while also hailing CHLOE as “an act to watch out for.”

Los Angeles-based alt-pop duo Good Rzn—Josie Molasky (vocalist/songwriter) and Tommy Ghirardini (guitarist/producer)—are gearing up for the Friday, October 20 release of their debut EP FALLING IN SLOW MOTION. It was praised by Las Vegas Weekly (from a preview of their recent show at Ferguson’s Downtown) for its “marriage of trebly synths, pop-leaning production and Molasky’s alluring cadence, as heard on ‘Running Out of Time’” (10/5/23). Good Rzn have announced two shows: an EP release gig this Friday, October 20 at the club KISS KISS BANG BANG (free with RSVP) and a second show November 7 at (WFNM) WE FOUND NEW MUSIC Artist Discovery Showcase at Backbeat on Sunset at Hotel Ziggy (8462 Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood), which is free with RSVP 21+ (7:00pm Doors).

In advance of the EP’s release, Good Rzn recently unveiled the singles “Running Out Of Time” and “Far From Me.” Stay tuned for the release of a three-video sequence of “Running Out Of Time,” “Far From Me,” and “123.” The videos will be the premiere directorial music video projects for Los Angeles-based artist Mishko (represented by Randi Wilens & RW Media).

“Running Out Of Time”: We wanted this song to evoke a sense of urgency to chase your dreams and do the things you’ve always wanted to do now rather than later. Go dance in the rain, it’s been too long. Don’t waste your time waiting for a perfect moment. The tone of the instrumental complements the vocals and lyrics with energetic synths and bold guitar elements and creates a sense of urgency. The record was largely inspired by electronic music and we put a heavy emphasis on the sound design.”

“Far From Me”: “This was one of the first songs that we wrote as Good Rzn in 2021 with our friend John MacLane. We rented a house in Palm Springs and set up a studio for a few days. One of our intentions going in was to bring the rock sound that we were inspired by our whole lives into a more electronic space. The track ultimately took about two years to fully develop and it’s one of the songs we’re most excited about on the EP. The lyrics address themes of being away from someone close to you or something you love, and the ensuing growth and strife that occurs in that setting.”

“123”: “This one is a nostalgic song that talks about simpler times when things seemed straightforward. Life is hard and getting places isn’t as “easy as ABC” or as ‘easy as 123.’ The track includes a recording from 20 years ago of Josie singing the alphabet as a kid. The lyrics talk about lessons learned growing up while the dynamics throughout mirror the ups and downs of life, which is complemented by the dynamic instrumental. The production is minimalistic, sticking with the theme, yet each sound is carefully crafted to eventually give the song some explosive moments.”

The group began releasing music in the fall of 2021. On the Good Rzn-produced FALLING IN SLOW MOTION, they paint the positives and negatives of life as an epic roller coaster ride. The five-track EP gives insight into the feelings the two artists have experienced in their past few years living in Los Angeles. Each song dives into different components of the factors that have influenced the pair since moving to Los Angeles, CA from Boulder, CO. “We wanted this collection of music to represent a specific time period of our artistic journey,” says Good Rzn. “We’ve had a lot of amazing moments, but there were also struggles along the way. The creation of these pieces helped us find peace in expressing ourselves and hope it might do the same for our listeners.”

Q&A with Gina Katon of LITTLE MISS NASTY

Why did you name the tour after the song “Bad Girls Romance” after the song from your upcoming debut album. What is the song about?

GINA: “Bad Girls Romance” is kind of like the dream state and head space of female desire, sex, and fantasy. It’s a song that women can listen to that embodies their deepest desires—real life or fantasy. It gives women the license to be sexual and proud of their sexuality. Overall, the LMN brand is a bold celebration of women’s sexuality. We are unwaveringly unapologetic about that. We think the name “Bad Girls Romance” is the perfect name for this tour since we are bringing five sexually empowered, talented women across the country and of course it’s also the name of our debut single from the new album.

A residency in NYC in Times Square is a big deal. How amped are you for this?

GINA: THIS IS HUGE! Even though we’ve already made a splash in New York earlier this year with a killer residency in Brooklyn at House of Yes, we are now beyond excited to move the show into New York Fuckin’ City proper! There’s something about the energy being right in the thick of it in Manhattan that is just so epic! Plus we will be able to reach a much bigger and broader audience in Times Square and that will give us the ability to spread the message of LMN much more rapidly than when we were out in Bushwick. LMN is about sex, art, and rebellion. It’s a bold female empowerment celebration that’s visceral and cerebral. It stands apart from simply being a marriage of burlesque and rock. Can you talk about how LMN has evolved into what it is today?

GINA: Even though we are constantly evolving, SEX, ART, and REBELLION have always been the backbone and driving forces for LMN. It’s true that we an energetic show and experience. We started as just a live show but over time LMN has really turned into a cultural lifestyle brand. A retail clothing line, a music recording artist, a “Las Vegas” production show. Little Miss Nasty is a brand, a lifestyle, a movement. We even have a cartoon! A TV series next?

LMN embraces sexuality and fearlessness, while at the same time it raises consciousness about female empowerment, which is key, especially since the Supreme Court rolled back women’s rights that they were granted 50 years ago.

GINA: I have a pit in my stomach and an aching heart, but my fists are clenched. We will never stop expressing ourselves freely and we hope that by doing so we empower and encourage other women to do the same even if that means standing up to the “powers that be” at the local level or even the fucking Supreme Court. It’s complete BS. I think that the following lyrics from the second single on our upcoming album sum up our thoughts on this pretty well: “It’s a new fucking day, and we don’t fuck with you.” Or another pretty good one is: “My body is powerful, it’s my weapon on choice.”

You vocally dig your heels into your songs. Which artists have inspired you as a vocalist?

GINA: Kurt Cobain, Kathleen Hanna from Bikini Kill, Pink is a bad ass, David Bowie, Marilyn Manson, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, Salt-N-Pepa, Notorious B.I,G., and of course Wendy O. Williams.

If you overheard people talking about the new album, what would you like to hear them say?

GINA: ‘Wow! I did not expect that at all! So unique. Every song has its own vibe. I cried listening to “Buried In Sin” It’s so powerful! I can’t wait to dance to these songs!’

How do you describe the chemistry of the LMN performers?

GINA: Just incredible! The rawness of our live stage show forces us to push through any sort of boundaries that we may have. We’re ALL IN. There’s no holding back. We are not faking anything. What you see is true passion and real heartfelt performances. To “go there” you have to be 100% comfortable with yourself and your fellow LMN babes.

Can you talk about one area of the show that you feel especially stitches together the many themes of LMN?

GINA: Our grand finale in the current show is a raucous, wild, rebellious, “no fucks given whatsoever” performance to “Killing In The Name Of” by Rage Against The Machine.

If you could send a text message to the Supreme Court, what would it say?

GINA: “It’s a new fucking day and we don’t fuck with you. My body is powerful, it’s my weapon on choice. Choke on my dick.”

THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT are getting listeners in the mood for Halloween season by releasing a new EP SOUNDS FROM BEYOND THE ABYSS (VOL.1) via Better Noise Music. The four-track EP, out today (Friday, October 13), features four occult-driven tracks which cater to the band’s potent blend of modern rock anthems molded with emo and pop-punk theatrics. Of the four tracks, two are covers of iconic songs from artists that have inspired THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT’s vibrant sound: Radiohead’s “Creep” (released this past August in partnership with The Hot Topic Foundation to support non-profit music, art, LGBTQ+ and mental health organizations for youth and teens) and Tears For Fears’ “Mad World.” Stream and/or download SOUNDS FROM BEYOND THE ABYSS (VOL. 1) now at https://thefuneralportrait.ffm.to/sfbtavol1.

“’Sounds From Beyond The Abyss (Volume 1)’ was designed to be a fun departure, something to hold over fans while we finish up the steps towards our full record release,” shares vocalist LEE JENNINGS. “Within the lore of our band; it represents secret tracks, hidden away to be discovered by some unlucky Samaritan. Occult sounds meant to hypnotize the listener with music from an alternate reality. Which is to explain the case of covers & alternate versions of original songs. A ‘what if?’ scenario for our fans and ourselves.”

“Anyone who has met the band for more than 45 seconds can tell that we’re all big Donnie Darko fans, so when the question of a new cover came up, ‘Mad World’ was an obvious answer,” says JENNINGS. “Drawing more from the Gary Jules rendition than the Tears For Fears original, this cover of ours is all about the mood and vibe. Finding the balance between capturing the essence of The Funeral Portrait alongside the Samhain spirit for Halloween was the tightrope we had to walk and we’re very happy with the outcome.”

Lauded as “easily one of folk and Americana music’s most prolific singer-songwriters,” (Americana Highways), JEREMY SQUIRES announces his fourth release via Blackbird Record Label and 12^th overall album, RIDDLE OF STARS, due out November 17. Digital pre-saves are available HERE. RIDDLE OF STARS was written, performed, and produced entirely by the singer, songwriter, and musician following the loss of his longtime musical collaborator, drummer and friend, Carlos Ventura. What started out as an electric album transformed into a collection of nine heart-stirring songs, including one that was originally written as a poem as a goodbye for his friend’s funeral (“Blood Pact”). Throughout, SQUIRES uses carefully crafted minimalism, primarily by way of guitar finger-picking, piano, and the occasional pedal steel guitar or organ to create haunting dreamscapes. Listening to his songs, you can easily imagine a camera moving in for revealing close-ups.

SQUIRES has today (October 6) shared the music video for the deeply moving debut track, “Play Dead,” which can be seen streaming below or via YouTube HERE. The video was co-directed by SQUIRES and his 14-year-old daughter Violet against a backdrop of the Trent and Neuse rivers near their hometown of North Bern, NC and Lake Worth Beach, FL where they will soon begin a new chapter of life. “When I wrote ‘Play Dead,’ I was in a place in my life where I thought it was impossible to escape a toxic cycle,” reveals SQUIRES. “I felt stuck in this constant loop and had to leave by any means possible. Writing and recording this song was very cathartic but at the same time very hard. ‘Play Dead’ captures my exact feelings the moment that I was able to leave and the feelings that I was crippled with at that time in my life.”

Discussing the “Play Dead” video, SQUIRES shares: “This video was shot in both Florida and North Carolina by both me and my daughter, Violet. It was absolutely amazing being able to spend time with my daughter and teach her about lighting, photography and videography. We had such rad time. She has an amazing eye for capturing imagery that a lot of people don’t take the time to notice, she sees things so creatively. Violet is willing to learn and you can see it in her eyes. I was very proud to be able to share this experience with her. ‘Play Dead’ might be my favorite song on the album and it’s definitely my favorite video.”

SQUIRES consistently holds space for his artistic expression in more than one medium, living and breathing within cycles of poetry, photography and music. His childhood hometown of Inner Banks, NC has steadfastly served as the inspiration for his music. Raised by his grandmother, and the son of a published poet, his mother, and a father that gifted him a flea market guitar when he was a child, SQUIRES began teaching himself to play by way of writing songs and learning Bad Religion and Nirvana songs, eventually leading him into forming punk bands.

SQUIRES and VENTURA met at age 12 and 13, the beginning of nearly three decades of brotherhood and artistic collaboration. “We were musical soulmates,” says SQUIRES. Neither one of them formally trained, the two experimented with bands before officially becoming a professionally touring band, Andrea’s Truth, playing shows at venues and skate parks up and down the east coast. In a surprising turn of events, after recording their debut album, the studio burned down with their files. However, fans initiated a network of passing around bootleg VHS tapes from their live shows which in turn secured their mark and influence on a thriving indie punk music scene in their region.

Becoming a father at only age 21, SQUIRES took a job at a faucet factory and paused from touring for several years until he returned in 2005 to his career in music, photography, and restoring vintage guitars. This is when he began learning to record on his own, playing all instruments with VENTURA adding drums on multiple songs throughout his catalogue, unfortunately passing suddenly before being able to track drums for RIDDLE OF STARS.
