On their in-progress 50th anniversary world tour (see the dates below), the iconic multi-platinum-selling group AMERICA are delivering their distinctive brand of harmony-rich rock, mixed with pop smarts, in soul-searching classic songs that movingly reflect the times in which they were written. The band’s co-founders GERRY BECKLEY and DEWEY BUNNELL are committed to keeping their songs and music fresh onstage every night as they perform all over the world. In the Q&A below, they talk about their special chemistry; pick their favorite scenes in TV shows where their songs have been featured; and recall crazy “Spinal Tap” moments in their career.

10 QUESTIONS
WITH GERRY BECKLEY AND DEWEY BUNNELL
OF AMERICA:
Congratulations on your 50th anniversary tour. Looking back, what has surprised you most in your career?
GERRY BECKLEY: “As great as any of the singular successes have been over the years, I’d have to say the longevity itself is something we’d never have considered and probably the greatest surprise.”
DEWEY BUNNELL: “The initial success was a surprise, with the first album and single both going to #1, but I don’t think we ever thought that 50 years later we’d still be performing close to 100 shows a year!”
Every band seems to have a “Spinal Tap” moment. What about AMERICA?
DEWEY: “We’ve had several over the decades, but I’ll never forget when we were taping a Bob Hope Special on the UCLA campus with Bob, John Wayne and Aretha Franklin in front of a large crowd of students who assumed we were performing live, when in fact we were lip-syncing ‘Sister Golden Hair.’ As the taping was in progress, there was a technical problem, so they stopped the tape to restart the shoot. The students were shocked and voiced their displeasure at this reality! We made it clear we’d return for a full LIVE CONCERT soon…which we did!”
GERRY: “I’d say there’s been many ‘Spinal Tap’ moments over the years but a particular Hollywood Bowl Symphony performance comes to mind. It was a symphony show with George Martin conducting, and the finalé involved quite a large amount of pyrotechnics.Unfortunately, some of the sparks fell down over the orchestra and the dress of the lady playing the harp caught on fire. She went running offstage in the middle of the encore and fortunately was OK although obviously quite shaken.”
Many of AMERICA’s classic songs reflected the times in which they were created, such as the questing “Horse With No Name” (with its environmental message at the end); the frank romantic politics of “Sister Golden Hair”; and the war paranoia of “Sandman” (written in part from conversations with returning airmen from Vietnam). What was it like to be artists experiencing all of this and capturing it in your songs?
GERRY: “We’ve been fortunate over the years to have numerous hits that became reflections of their time.”
DEWEY: “We’re all influenced by the times we live in and the changes we go through growing up. It’s a special thing to be able to reflect those events in a song in some way or another.”
AMERICA’s recordings have been licensed for a multitude of placements in films (including American Hustle, The Nice Guys, The Last Unicorn and Girl Most Likely), television shows (among them The Sopranos, Friends, Breaking Bad and Saturday Night Live) and video games (including Grand Theft Auto). Why do you think AMERICA’s songs lend themselves so well to scenes in films and TV shows…and is there a favorite scene you have where your song is used?
DEWEY: “I loved hearing ‘Horse With No Name’ being used in an episode of ‘Breaking Bad’ as Walter White was literally driving through the desert! Many times our songs seem to be simply used to establish the era of the 70’s, but the directors must have their reasons.”
GERRY: “My personal favorite is an episode of ‘The Sopranos’ where one of the characters was taken out (shot) while driving and as the car came crashing to a stop, ‘Sister Golden Hair’ was playing on the car radio. Excellent.”
You guys have a special chemistry with different vocal styles and different lyrical points of view. Can you talk about why the combination works and what the “secret” might be in your “sauce”?
GERRY: “We’ve often said that Dewey writes the outdoor songs and I write the indoor songs. It makes for a nice combo.”
DEWEY: “It’s hard to define exactly what we each bring to the table, but I think Gerry and I have always written from the heart and complement each other’s ‘strengths and weaknesses’ in the process of writing, recording and performing.”
If you were to record a duet with a current artist outside the genre of music you’re known for, who might that be, and which song would you cover and why?
DEWEY: “I’ve always been a ‘one band’ guy. I truly don’t aspire to collaborating with artists outside America, which is my comfort zone, although I admire may other artists from the past and present.”
GERRY: “I’ve been friends with Brandon Flowers of The Killers for a while now and I was recently just listening to their hit ‘Human.’ That’s a song I’d love to cover.”
Which famous American historical event would you like to have witnessed and why?
GERRY: “I’m not great with crowds but I would have loved to witness the inauguration of President Obama. A shining moment in our country’s history.”
DEWEY: “I can only imagine what went through the minds of the people at the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776. To be there with the likes of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin and John Adams at the beginning of the creation of our democracy must have been incredible.”
What do you look forward to most when you return home from touring, and where is home?
DEWEY: “Of course, there is ‘no place like home’ wherever that may be. Reuniting with my wife and pets, even after short trips, is always a comfort. Whether it’s in L.A. or northern Wisconsin, where we split our time, it’s always great to come home.”
GERRY: “Well, the best part IS the coming home. My wife and I have two lovely homes, one in Sydney, Australia and the other in Venice, CA.”
If you overheard one fan talking to another after leaving a show of yours, what would you like to hear them say about the gig?
GERRY: “‘Those guys are still pretty good.'”
DEWEY: “We hear comments like, ‘I didn’t realize they performed all those songs!’ or ‘I didn’t realize they did that song?’ a lot. It is nice to surprise our audience with our efforts over 50 years, so the best comment is when they say, ‘They’re better than I thought!’
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time and why does it capture your imagination?
DEWEY: “I’d have to say ‘Pet Sounds.’ I was at first baffled by what I was hearing the first time I heard it as a big Beach Boys fan. But after repeated listens I was, and still am, amazed by the beautiful songwriting and incredible production of Brian Wilson. It truly is a masterpiece in every way.”
GERRY: “‘Pet Sounds’… a true masterpiece.”

CANCELS 2020
NORTH AMERICAN
“NO MORE TOURS 2” DATES
TO HEAD OVERSEAS
FOR ADDITIONAL MEDICAL TREATMENTS
OZZY OSBOURNE‘s 2020 North American “NO MORE TOURS 2” has unfortunately been cancelled to allow OSBOURNE to continue to recover from various health issues he has faced over the past year. This decision was made to accommodate fans who’ve been holding tickets for rescheduled shows and have been asked to change plans, some multiple times. Following promotional obligations for his new ORDINARY MAN album (out February 21), OSBOURNE will head to Europe for additional treatments.
“I’m so thankful that everyone has been patient because I’ve had a shit year,” OSBOURNE said. “Unfortunately, I won’t be able to get to Switzerland for treatment until April and the treatment takes six-eight weeks.
“I don’t want to start a tour and then cancel shows at the last minute, as it’s just not fair to the fans. I’d rather they get a refund now and when I do the North American tour down the road, everyone who bought a ticket for these shows will be the first ones in line to purchase tickets at that time.”
Refunds are available at the original point of purchase. All refunds, including fees, will be returned directly to the credit card used. Additionally, ticketholders who purchased “No More Tours 2” tickets will have first access to tickets when the next tour is announced.

GODSMACK
SUPPORT LOCAL MUSIC STUDENTS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE
WITH TWO EVENTS:
FRIDAY FEBRUARY 14 TED TALK-STYLE PRESENTATION HOSTED BY BAND’S LEAD SINGER SULLY ERNA AT THE
GILBERT H. HOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL IN DERRY, NH
AND SATURDAY FEBRUARY 15 FILMING OF NEW VIDEO FOR “UNFORGETTABLE” FROM BAND’S
‘WHEN LEGENDS RISE’ ALBUM
AT THE SNHU ARENA IN MANCHESTER, NH
As music programs continue to be at risk at schools across the country, multi-platinum hard rock titans GODSMACK are looking to support local music students in New Hampshire by involving them in the filming of their latest single “Unforgettable,” from their current album WHEN LEGENDS RISE, with two events later this week. First up, the band’s lead singer and guitarist SULLY ERNA will speak to middle school students on Friday February 14. The following day (Saturday February 15), GODSMACK will invite 300+ students to join the band to take part in a performance of their new single “Unforgettable” at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH.
The Friday February 14 events will begin with a Ted Talk-style presentation by SULLY at the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School in Derry, NH. SULLY will talk about his life–the challenges, blending in, how music saved him–and encouraging the young musicians to continue to pursue their dreams. The assembly will end with the students getting a chance to be a part of filming “Unforgettable.” The day will conclude with the band teaching the track to the students in preparation for the following day’s filming.
On Saturday morning (February 15), the students will travel in school buses to SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH where they’ll be filmed alongside the band–Sully Erna [vocals, guitar], Tony Rombola [guitar], Robbie Merrill [bass] and Shannon Larkin [drums]–for the “Unforgettable” video.
Previously, GODSMACK had orchestrated 20 students from the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School to join them in the studio during the recording of “Unforgettable” and provide vocals on the song’s chorus. These same students were also invited to perform the song live on-stage with GODSMACK at their show in Gilford, NH on August 22, 2018 at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion. Now, GODSMACK will showcase 300 middle schoolers from the same school in their music video. Look for the “Unforgettable” video to be released in the coming weeks.
“Unforgettable” comes on the heels of last year’s career first for the band when they scored three #1 singles from GODSMACK‘s WHEN LEGENDS RISE (BMG) album. It follows “Under Your Scars,” which was the group’s third #1, and the album’s two previous tracks that were #1 active rock hits: “When Legends Rise” and “Bulletproof,” the latter of which was recently certified Gold in the U.S. and was also the most-played song at rock radio in 2018.
WHEN LEGENDS RISE marks the band’s seventh studio album and their first in four years. The critically acclaimed 11-song collection entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart in the top ten (#8), with four #1 placements on other charts: Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Music Albums, Top Independent Albums and Top Alternative Albums. WHEN LEGENDS RISE is available on CD, LP and Digital; purchase or stream it here. The album finds the guys doubling down on their combination of tightly wound riffs, rhythmic fury, naked emotions and pushed-to-the-edge vocals, all fired up with melodic precision and tight songcraft.
About GODSMACK:
Godsmack stand strong as 21st century hard rock titans. With an unbreakable spirit and die-hard work ethic evocative of their hometown, the Boston quartet fought hard to secure a place in music history since first smashing their way on to the scene in 1998. To date, they’ve notched a staggering ten #1 singles at mainstream rock radio, including “Awake,” “Straight Out of Line,” “Cryin’ Like A Bitch,” and “I Stand Alone.” Moreover, they’ve enjoyed 24 Top 10 hits at the format-the most of any act since February 1999-as well as four Grammy nominations, and were winners of The Billboard Music Awards Rock Artists of the Year in 2001. Selling over 20 million records worldwide, the band has also unleashed three consecutive albums at #1 on the Billboard Top 200-namely Faceless [2003], IV [2006], and The Oracle [2010]. This places them in league with Van Halen, U2, Metallica, Dave Matthews Band, and Linkin Park who have also enjoyed the same streak. Moreover, the accomplishment on the road remains staggering with headlining sets around the world. They still stand alone.

WARDRUNA’s NEW ALBUM ‘KVITRAVN’ OUT JUNE 5 VIA BY NORSE MUSIC (U.S. only) SONY MUSIC/COLUMBIA RECORDS (World Excl. U.S.) REVEAL NORTH AMERICAN FALL TOUR DATES TICKETS ON SALE FRI. 2/14 PRE-ORDER BUNDLES AVAILABLE NOW
![]() Photo Credit: Kim Öhrling Masterful Norwegian storytellers WARDRUNA–last seen in the U.S. in 2018 with a sold-out headlining show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado–will release their new album KVITRAVN(which translates to ‘White Raven’) on June 5 via BY NORSE MUSIC in the U.S. and SONY MUSIC / COLUMBIA RECORDS (worldwide excl. U.S.). The first new music from the album will be revealed on February 21. In the meantime, pre-order bundles are now available in the U.S. at https://wardruna.aisamerch.com/and across all digital platforms at https://wardruna.lnk.to/Kvitravn_Album.
WARDRUNA have also announced plans for a solo North American tour launching this fall in Charlotte, NC on September 24 and concluding in Dallas, TX on October 20. Tickets for these shows (listed below) will go on-sale at 10:00 A.M. local time on Friday, February 14.
WARDRUNA have carved a rich, polyphonic and dramatic musical landscape that honors the ancient past without gimmick, while simultaneously illuminating meaningful expressions of Norse tradition through intrinsically detailed contemporary composition. Beyond genre, theirs is a sound that must be truly experienced. Their first-ever concert was held in front of the 1,500-year-oldGokstad Viking ship in Oslo, NO and they’re the only band to have ever been allowed to hold an amplified concert at the Viking ship museum. Since then they’ve performed sold-out shows worldwide, including major festival headlining appearances (Hellfest, Roadburn, Summer Breez, Castle Fest, Echoes & Merveilles, Rock oz Arenes, Rock The Coast, etc.). In 2018, they toured the U.S. with a West Coast run which expanded their audience.
KVITRAVN follows an intensive period in the studio and musically continues where their RUNALJOD trilogy left off in 2016 with RUNALJOD – RAGNAROK–which charted at #1 Billboard’s World Music charts in the U.S. and Canada. Yet KVITRAVN marks a distinct evolution in WARDRUNA‘s unique sound. In a rich musical tapestry, WARDRUNA use a broad selection of both traditional and historical instruments such as Kravik-lyre, Trossingen-lyre, Taglharpa, Sootharp, Langeleik, Crwth, Goat- horn, Lur, Bronze-lur, flute, Moraharpa, and the record also features guest appearances by a small group of prominent traditional singers, spearheaded by Kirsten Bråten Berg, one of the most important custodians of Norwegian traditional song. Throughout these 11 songs, KVITRAVNdiscusses Northern sorcery, spirit-animals, shadows, nature and animism, the wisdom and meanings of certain myths, various Norse spiritual concepts, and the relation between sage and songs.
“To recite and copy the past is not very difficult, but to understand and integrate ancient thoughts, tools and methods with real purpose into a creation that is relevant to the modern era is truly challenging and remains our prime goal in our work,” WARDRUNA founder Einar Selvik reveals.
“Although the album carries a variant of my own totemic artist name, it has, in this context, little to do with me but rather refers to the symbolism and legends of sacred white animals found in Nordic and other cultures all over the world. These highly regarded ghostly creatures, whether a raven, snake, bear, moose, reindeer, elephant or lion,–are in animist traditions seen as prophetic, divine messengers, and guardians representing renewal, purity and a bridge between worlds.”
![]() Since their formation in the early 2000’s initiated by composer Einar Selvik, WARDRUNA have had vast worldwide success, transcending music genres, cultures and languages while being renowned for their innovative and genre-creating renditions of ancient Nordic traditions.
The group’s massive musical contributions to History Channel‘s TV seriesVIKINGS-which consists of over 60 placements and substantial work on the show’s musical score in addition to appearances by EINAR, who starred and performed on two occasions in Season 3 and 4–has exposed their music to a broad audience worldwide. WARDRUNA merge academics with pop culture, and their thorough and serious approach has made them one of today’s foremost communicators of Norse culture. Today’s top international scholars on Old Norse studies use EINAR‘s work to exemplify how music might have been executed in earlier times in Scandinavia and he has lectured about his work with historical music in prestigious universities such as Oxford, University ofDenver, Reykjavik University and University of Bergen. Alongside fellow Norwegian metal band Enslaved, WARDRUNA was commissioned by the Norwegian government to write and perform a music-piece for the 200-year anniversary of the Norwegian constitution in 2014.

IAN GOTHE
SHARES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO
“TAKE ME HOME” IN ADVANCE OF DEBUT ALBUM RELEASE FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7
VIA BLACKBIRD RECORD LABEL LOS ANGELES RECORD RELEASE SHOW
FOR ‘MEMENTO’
SET FOR SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 8 AT HOTEL CAFÉ (HOLLYWOOD) Los Angeles-based acoustic guitarist-singer-songwriter IAN GOTHE has shared a new music video for the third single, the compellingly intimate” Take Me Home,” from his debut solo album MEMENTO, due out this Friday, February 7 via the California-based Blackbird Record Label. The video debuted yesterday, February 5, via American Songwriter.
IAN has also announced a record release show at Hotel Café in Hollywood this Saturday, February 8 where he’ll perform songs from MEMENTO which includes his two previous singles and videos: “Blood on The Rooftops in Montrose” and “Spanish Caravan.” “Blood on The Rooftops in Montrose” is IAN‘s homage to guitarist Steve Hackett of Genesis, while his interpretation of The Doors’ “Spanish Caravan” was originally premiered via Guitar Player and prompted The Doors‘ guitarist Robby Krieger to say: “I love it! It’s tough to cover Doors songs because the originals are so iconic. But Ian wasn’t afraid to stick to the original format and did a great job of capturing the feel. There’s a new flamenco/rock movement happening now in Europe–maybe Ian will lead the way!”
IAN‘s latest video “Take Me Home” was filmed with director Martin Yernazian in different locations in SoCal including Montrose (where he currently resides), Flintridge, Glendale, Burbank and Pasadena. IAN sings the song entirely in Armenian reflecting his history being born and raised in Iran to an Armenian family until he was 14, after which he travelled across various continents until relocating permanently in Los Angeles.
“I wrote ‘Take Me Home’ as an anthem for one of the defining questions of my life, ‘Where do I belong?'” shares IAN. “As I was grappling with emotions suspended in a loss devoid of closure, ‘Take Me Home’ grew to become an ethereal journey through dreams, memories, and imagined futures.
“The moment in the video when I kneel in the cemetery,” elaborates IAN, “is meant to underscore the role of loss in fueling the human drive to belong, and the sojourn throughout the video taps into the desire to escape that we all have at some point, knowing full well that the mind, soul, heart, and pain will follow. Employing the metaphor of dream and the fairytale beauty of the Armenian landscape that is a reflection of what I imagine to be my soul’s home, I worked to create a tale that captures the universal experience of longing to uncover a sense of being, all while again losing that which never existed.
“With this song,” IAN adds, “I attempted to create a space to contemplate loss and question the uncomfortable ambiguity of existence. By painting a picture of dreams and a desire to find home with enough textures and colors, my hope is that listeners can contemplate their own journeys.”
IAN GOTHE – “Take Me Home” Official Music Video
“TAKE ME HOME” Lyrics (translated to English)
Written by Ian Gothe
Come and take me far away
Take me to Yerevan
Come and take me to Goris
Then on to Tatev Monastery
In my dreams, I saw a verdant vineyard
Azure cloud-laced skies in Lake Sevan
An endless field of wildflowers
And a morning drenched in shimmering light
An imperfect melody
An apathetic time
The whimsical wind is beckoning me
The strings of the kanun are singing your song
Take me, take me far
Take me home
Take me, take me far
Take me home
Treasured memories, days of old
Bring the red wine, let it flow
The waves of the river overflow
Like my soul runs to and fro
Carefree thoughts adorn the starry night
Round and round you dance in my head
Take me, take me far
Take me home
Take me, take me far
Take me home
