“This year I’ve been locked down in the studio recording ‘Tokyo Jukebox 3’,” shares MARTY. “Recording an album like this one requires an abnormal amount of being sequestered anyway, so if anything, the pandemic kept me focused a bit more than usual. The goal was to come up with music that would be aggressively cathartic to those who were hit harder by the pandemic than I was. Having that in the back of my mind gave me one more layer of inspiration and energy, and hopefully it shows in the music.”

MARTY`s presence in the world of music, the world of guitar and Japanese pop culture is mystifying, bizarre, and nothing short of inspiring. His first major impact in music was in the game-changing guitar duo Cacophony, which he founded with equally enigmatic and now legendary guitarist, Jason Becker. He then spent 10 years as lead guitarist in the genre-defining thrash metal act Megadeth before moving to Tokyo due to his love for Japanese music, language, and culture.

Following his move, he landed a starring role for a new TV comedy, Hebimeta-san (“Mr. Heavy Metal”) and its spinoff, Rock Fujiyama, which ran for six seasons and propelled him into the living rooms of Japan`s mainstream. He has since appeared in over 800 tv shows, movies and commercials, including a two-year campaign with Coca-Cola for Fanta, authored two best-selling novels and was the first-ever foreigner to be appointed as an Ambassador of Japan Heritage and perform at the Opening Ceremony for the Tokyo Marathon in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

At the same time, MARTY has continued his career in music with several solo albums in addition to writing and performing with the top artists in Japanese music, racking up countless chart hits including a #1 with Smap, two #2 songs with Momoiro Clover, a #2 with Sound Horizon—just to name a few. His most recent release was 2018’s ONE BAD M.F. LIVE!, his 14^th solo album, which was recorded live in Mexico City during his latest North American tour in support of 2017’s full-length album WALL OF SOUND via Prosthetic Records. The self-produced album debuted on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart at #12 and was recorded in part at Dave Grohl’s Studio 606 in California with engineer Paul Fig (Alice In Chains, Rush, Deftones) and mixed by Jens Bogren (Kreator, Opeth, Sepultura). MARTY self-produced the majority of WALL OF SOUND bringing on legendary producer Mack (Queen) for two tracks.

MARTY will soon reveal details on his next album, TOKYO JUKEBOX 3, due out in North America and Europe in early 2021. It will mark the third and most exciting work in his popular “Tokyo Jukebox” series, which has not only introduced Japanese music to new fans all around the world, but has forged an image of MARTY as one of the most unique arrangers of our time. Los Angeles’ modern rock’n’roll outfit BUDDERSIDE, signed to Motörhead Music by the late Motörhead vocalist Lemmy Kilmister, return four years after their 2016 self-titled debut with a reinvigorated lineup and a scorching new sophomore effort, SPIRITUAL VIOLENCE. Scheduled for release on March 26 via Motörhead Music/Silver Lining Music. Inspired by Pink Floyd’s Live at Pompeii 1972 concert documentary film, the series will consist of five concert streams featuring five albums from five bands as well as including visuals by Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show filmed and recorded from the natural amphitheater of California’s Mojave Desert. Each event will last two hours which will include an hour long “Couchlock and Rock” session featuring a chat hosted by the California Desert Wizards alongside special guests including band members and icons from the California Desert Rock scene—think if MTV in the 80’s was run by heshers and stoners. The second hour will feature the 1080p HD livestream concert film experience. The band lineup includes:

“In October 2020 we filmed and recorded five bands in four days, deep in the deep sand and iconic rocks of the desert,” shares LIVE IN THE MOJAVE DESERT producer RYAN JONES. “It was a major undertaking to bring this many people and this much gear out to a very remote desert location. Including the bands, we had 25 people onsite daily. With only one road in, everyone and all the gear had to come up a half mile long hill of deep sand–30 miles from nowhere. We had to hire local desert guys with huge 4×4 pickups to help. The Mad Alchemy Liquid Light Show projected on a four-story high, double pyramid of boulders and we had a crack squad of filmmakers, photographers and recording engineers there to capture it all. It was insane, but it was worth it to see our favorite bands play again!”

The highly anticipated new project from acclaimed guitarist GEORGE LYNCH (Dokken, Lynch Mob), THE BANISHMENT, has today premiered their debut single “Lost Horizon” pegged to the launch of an Indiegogo campaign to assist with the funding for the recording and manufacturing of their self-titled debut album scheduled for release in early 2021. Self-proclaimed as “dream punk,” THE BANISHMENT is a collaborative effort formed by LYNCH with programmer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist JOE HAZE. The idea for THE BANISHMENT has been years in the making for LYNCH to further push his creativity into darker, subliminal and chaotic territories. To accomplish this, he teamed up with HAZE over five years ago, who in addition to being the live guitarist for Lords of Acid, is known in the industry for his work producing/co-producing, mixing and engineering for acts including Sublime, 8MM, Raymond Watts (PIG), Chuck Mosely, David Archuleta, Jedd Moss (Air Supply), Gladys Knight and television networks such as ESPN and National Geographic.

Following multiple failed attempts auditioning vocalists, THE BANISHMENT was close to being shelved until through a series of chance meetings and connections HAZE was introduced to DEVIX AKA at the 2019 Cold Waves Music Festival; he had been grinding his teeth against metal in the Los Angeles underground with acts including The Narcosis Design and Symbolism (featuring original members of Christian Death & Samhain) under the “dream punk” genre.

THE BANISHMENT has since been collectively working around the unpredictable covid-19 lockdown restrictions to record “Lost Horizon” and will continue to work on material for the forthcoming full-length debut. Los Angeles-based industrial metal outfit CONTRACULT Collective have unveiled their new EP FOLLOW which includes two tracks—the catchy and pulverizing single “Follow” and grinding b-side track “50 Shades”–just in time to add to Halloween playlists. FOLLOW was produced by Arthur Rizk (Ghostemane, Power Trip) and comes after the self-release of their debut eight-track EP A CULT OF OPPOSITION last month. “‘Follow’ is the product of a long weekend spent in a cold Philadelphian garage with producer Arthur Rizk,” shares CONTRACULT Collective vocalist/producer Svart. “This collaboration delivered two cuts of raw industrial metal which we felt would follow up nicely from our previous release, ‘A Cult of Opposition.’

“The title track ‘Follow’ is a self-reflection on giving space and energy to unsafe forces which drain every drop of blood from your body. Learning to establish healthy boundaries and self-preservation is a constant struggle I have bouts with every day. It can bleed me till I’m blue. It’s like salt in my wounds. We hope you f*cking freaks enjoy it, follow if you dare.”

“‘Follow’ is a juxtaposition between primitive hard beats and lush orchestrations of entangled cold guitars and synth,” says Rizk. “I loved working on it with Contracult Collective who were all about keeping everything big and harsh!”

CONTRACULT Collective was formed by Svart and guitarist Culprit and includes BX on synth/backup vocals. The band were signed to Roadrunner Records and released a series of singles and accompanying music videos including the NSFW “Hogtied,” “WDYT,” “It’s The Water” and a cover of Hole’s “Violet,” all of which were featured on their self-released debut EP. The outfit were featured as part of a mini-documentary series via The Pit What Burns in the Soul: CONTRACULT Collective discussing the relationship between the BDSM subculture and heavy music. CONTRACULT Collective will take part in Chicago’s Cold Waves Festival virtual Halloween event “Season of The Glitch” tonight, October 30, performing live at 11:30 P.M. ET (8:30 P.M. PT). The band were also recently announced as part of the lineup for the annual Aftershock 2020 Festival set to take place October 7 – 10 in Sacramento, CA with headliners Metallica and My Chemical Romance.
