THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT are getting listeners in the mood for Halloween season by releasing a new EP SOUNDS FROM BEYOND THE ABYSS (VOL.1) via Better Noise Music. The four-track EP, out today (Friday, October 13), features four occult-driven tracks which cater to the band’s potent blend of modern rock anthems molded with emo and pop-punk theatrics. Of the four tracks, two are covers of iconic songs from artists that have inspired THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT’s vibrant sound: Radiohead’s “Creep” (released this past August in partnership with The Hot Topic Foundation to support non-profit music, art, LGBTQ+ and mental health organizations for youth and teens) and Tears For Fears’Mad World.” Stream and/or download SOUNDS FROM BEYOND THE ABYSS (VOL. 1) now at https://thefuneralportrait.ffm.to/sfbtavol1.

“’Sounds From Beyond The Abyss (Volume 1)’ was designed to be a fun departure, something to hold over fans while we finish up the steps towards our full record release,” shares vocalist LEE JENNINGS. “Within the lore of our band; it represents secret tracks, hidden away to be discovered by some unlucky Samaritan. Occult sounds meant to hypnotize the listener with music from an alternate reality. Which is to explain the case of covers & alternate versions of original songs. A ‘what if?’ scenario for our fans and ourselves.”

THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT have shared a lyric video for their hypnotizing “Mad World” cover, released today alongside the SOUNDS FROM BEYOND THE ABYSS (VOL.1) EP. Watch it streaming now via YouTube below or HERE.

“Anyone who has met the band for more than 45 seconds can tell that we’re all big Donnie Darko fans, so when the question of a new cover came up, ‘Mad World’ was an obvious answer,” says JENNINGS. “Drawing more from the Gary Jules rendition than the Tears For Fears original, this cover of ours is all about the mood and vibe. Finding the balance between capturing the essence of The Funeral Portrait alongside the Samhain spirit for Halloween was the tightrope we had to walk and we’re very happy with the outcome.”

THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT combine modern rock anthems with emo-drenched pop-punk melodies which have garnered them a diverse and unwavering fanbase who consider themselves “outcasts” and relate to the band’s over-the-top theatrics and uncompromising music. Lauded as one of Alternative Press100 Bands You Need to Know,” THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT have today (September 22) shared the new track “Dark Thoughts.” Available digitally, the anthemic “Dark Thoughts” has lyrics that cater to getting rid of the paranoia that can go through your head with the catchy verse: “Can’t drink, Can’t drug, Can’t drown ‘em away / I can’t sleep, Can’t think, Can’t find an escape / From these dark, dark thoughts in my mind.” Stream/download “Dark ThoughtsHERE. Watch the music video for “Dark Thoughts” streaming below or via YouTube HERE.

“‘Dark Thoughts’ is a fun and energetic song meant to highlight our own mental health struggles,” states vocalist LEE JENNINGS. “It is deeply rooted in feeling trapped in your own head, like you have no one to reach out to who would understand or have an answer.” He adds: “It’s a statement both about the band and our fans. Depression, anxiety and mental health crisis events are a ubiquitous experience for us and the people who connect with our art. It can be such a terrifying and daunting task to try to overcome, but we hope that by connecting with others, we can support each other as a community in times when things seem the most bleak.”

THE FUNERAL PORTRAITLEE JENNINGS (vocals), CODY WEISSINGER (guitar), CALEB FREIHAUT (guitar/auxiliary), ROBERT WESTON (bass), and HOMER UMBANHOWER (drums)—further showcase their extravagant antics with each live performance, or as they call them “devotion ceremonies,” utilizing full theatrics, stage décor, costumed actors and more. “So you can crown me the king of misery
Cause I don’t want your American dream.”

Combining modern rock anthems with emo-drenched pop-punk melodies, THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT caters to outcasts from all walks of life. Their over-the-top theatrics and loud, uncompromising music offer audiences a sense of community where the “weird kids” can let loose. The band have today (August 4) released the new single “Generation Psycho,” a sarcastic take on our current cultural climate. “Generation Psycho” will be featured on THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT’s debut album due later this year via Better Noise Music.  The massive, no-holds-barred forthcoming release was co-produced by Johnny Andrews (Three Days Grace, Motionless In White, Halestorm) and Josh Landry, aka Lø Spirit (Motionless In White) while mixing and mastering was completed by Jacob Hansen (Volbeat, Arch Enemy). Listen to “Generation Psycho” streaming across all digital platforms HERE. A horror-inspired music video for “Generation Psycho” can be seen streaming below or via YouTube HERE.

“‘Generation Psycho’ is a statement piece from our band, a song about the out of control feeling so many people have about our culture, our society, and our government,” shares vocalist Lee Jennings. “The song captures the creeping fear of the future, of being outcasted and abandoned, and of falling through the cracks. We are hoping to connect with the disenfranchised and struggling with this song, the people who don’t know where to turn for help or guidance. We want to offer solace for people in this situation, so they know they are not alone in their fears, worries, and anxieties for themselves & their loved ones. So often it does feel like the whole world has gone crazy. We are no strangers to it and empathize with the experience.”

THE FUNERAL PORTRAITLee Jennings (vocals), Cody Weissinger (guitar), Caleb Freihaut (guitar/auxiliary), Robert Weston (bass) and Homer Umbanhower (drums)—have built an unwavering fanbase, The Coffin Crew, whom they devote their music to thus labelling their live performances as ‘devotion ceremonies.’ The ‘devotion ceremonies’ consists of full theatrics, stage décor, costumed actors and more. With previous tours alongside acts including Shinedown, Underoath, Skillet, Bad Wolves, From Ashes To New, Starset and Pvris under their belt and a main stage set at Inkcarceration Festival, THE FUNERAL PORTRAIT will bring their devotion ceremonies to audiences across the U.S. this fall. The band will next be seen opening for horror rock mainstays Ice Nine Kill for their “Silver Scream Concert” on September 9 in Lynn, MA which takes place amidst Ice Nine Kills’ horror convention, Silver Scream Con.
