OZZY OSBOURNE Talks about The ‘See You On The Other Side’ Box Set

DATE:        NOVEMBER 5, 2019

FROM:       MARCEE RONDAN/MITCH SCHNEIDER

 OZZY OSBOURNE

2019 Q&A

“I’ve been doing this for 50 years, 10 with Black Sabbath and then 40 years of my own.  This box set is my solo career.”

–OZZY OSBOURNE

Q:  Let’s talk about the SEE YOU ON THE OTHER SIDE box set, due out November 29 on Sony Legacy. You’ve obviously had many box sets released.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “This one’s the most elaborate one so far and I’m really pleased with the outcome.  It’s got everything in there that you could possibly want. And there’s some surprises along the way. I think it’s very well thought out and well put together.”

Q:  This is a vinyl collection, and with vinyl, music fans get to appreciate the warmer-sounding music and of course there’s the visual aspect.

OZZY: “When Blizzard of Ozz came out, it was all about vinyl.  That’s what nearly everyone bought.  You know what I miss about out vinyl?  You used to get a double sleeve album and it was a big deal. When CD’s first came out I thought it shrinks the size!  You can’t put as much artwork or information on a little sleeve which ruined a part of the experience for me.  I don’t care what people say, it’s a totally different sound on vinyl.”

Q:  Let’s talk about the differences from when the music biz went from vinyl to CD.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “The first time I saw a CD I was recording at Ridge Farm Studio.  The engineer told us that it would last forever and that you couldn’t scratch it.  We ended up using it as a frisbee.  On the other hand, I thought, ‘Oh, what a great idea! You smoke a doobie, and there’s no turntable where you have to flip the record over. I thought, ‘Oh, good, now, you can just listen without getting off your butt!'”

Q:  Do you think this is the definitive Ozzy collection?

OZZY OSBOURNE: “Oh, absolutely!”

Q:  Let’s talk about some of the iconic album covers. Let’s start with Bark At The Moon.  It’s an image that everyone remembers.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “I always like the idea of getting dressed up in certain little costumes.  It took eight hours to put that make up on.  The video was filmed in a Victorian Mansion, this old mental hospital…it was creepy!  I remember going to one of these different rooms and we even found a pickled fetus in a jar.”

Q:  In filming A&E’s “Ozzy & Jack’s World Detour” show with your son, you went to truly interesting places.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “Oh yeah, there were some fascinating places that I never knew existed.  We went to a mental hospital and also to the prison where Al Capone had the luxury cell! When you go there, even with a sideboard and his belongings, it was still a prison!  I bet he didn’t go, ‘Oh, I’m happy!'”

Q:  Do you remember the first vinyl album you bought?

OZZY OSBOURNE: “The Beatles and the Rolling Stones, I was like, the Stones and Beatles, anything like that!”

Q:  When you started doing this, did you have any idea you’d be where you are today?

OZZY OSBOURNE: “Absolutely! I knew, I thought, ‘Oh, this will do!’  When the first Black Sabbath album got on the charts, it was the first time I ever got success. I figured it would end, but we were picked up by various magazines and I thought, ‘This will be good for a few years. Partying every night, women, and wine and rock ‘n’ roll.’ I mean, here we are, 50 years up the road. I know that without a shadow of a doubt though, if it wasn’t for my wife Sharon, I wouldn’t be here now. I wouldn’t be alive. She pushed me when I needed it.  She yelled at me when I needed it. At the time I didn’t think I wanted to be yelled at, but in the long run, you got to get off your butt and you got to get to what you’re here to do. And I believe that’s what I’m here to do!”

Q:  If you hadn’t done this, you’ve said you would have been miserably working in a factory.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “I mean, I knew I wasn’t built to do a 9-to-5 job.  I’d start a new job, they’d tell me what I’d make a week, after three days, I’d say, ‘This is going to drive me nuts!’  I wouldn’t last…I’d jump jobs.  And then, I got in the band with Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward. Even if we had money or not, I traveled around with the boys, we saw Europe and had a good laugh. Would I have done anything different? No.  It’s just wild! I love it. When I heard the Beatles, I knew what I wanted to do.”

Q:  Let’s talk about the first time you heard that song.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “My son says to me, ‘Dad, I like the Beatles, but why do you go so crazy?’  The only way I can describe it is like this, ‘Imagine you go to bed today and the world is black and white and then you wake up, and everything’s in color. That’s what it was like!’  That’s the profound effect it had on me. I remember it like it was yesterday: I was walking around with a transistor radio on my shoulder. And ‘She Loves You’ came on. And, I don’t know, it just went, ‘Bang! And that’s what I want to do! Wouldn’t it be great?'”

Q:  With regards to music, you’ve been able to share music with your children and now your granddaughters…

OZZY OSBOURNE:  “Oh, my granddaughters! They’re something else! My oldest one, Pearl, did a thing at school about the eighties. She came up on the stage and said, ‘This is for my Papa!’ (she calls me ‘Papa’).  And she sang ‘Crazy Train.’ I was like, ‘She’s got balls!’ I think that every parent should teach their kids a bit about music. Buy piano lessons, or singing lesson, or whatever. Encourage it, because somebody once told me, ‘In any crisis, there’s two things people want: Food and entertainment.’ My wife can’t cook, but I can sing!”

Q:  Let’s talk about how your father helped you initially.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “My father was a factory worker who wouldn’t miss a day’s work if his life depended on it.  He worked the night shift.  He knew the passion I had for the music. I didn’t have much of an education, because I’m a dyslexic, attention-deficit, so I can sit still for more than five minutes. And he saw that passion, and he went into debt for me.  It was 500 dollars or something like that. We couldn’t afford it, but he bought me a PA system and a microphone. Not a big PA system, a little one. But, because he got me a microphone and a mike stand and a small PA, I got gigs because I was the first singer to have that equipment.  It was a way of getting into bands. If you had your own PA, you had the tools for the job.”

Q:  Let’s talk about the early days with you and Sharon. You had nothing at that point.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “When we started off, I can remember, we were both broke, no credit cards, nothing. We’d have all the cash from the gig in a briefcase and we’d have to stay in these really cheap hotels, like motorway hotels. The briefcase with cash in it was handcuffed to my wrist ’cause if we got ripped off, we were done.  But it was fun, because we had nothing to lose, and everything to gain!  We’d beg, borrow, and steal.”

Q: This is when you were starting fresh as a solo artist, getting your debut solo album ready.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “With Black Sabbath, I’d go and let them do their thing, and I’d add the vocal, no matter what the key was.  I’d have to try and work out a way to put a melody on there.  But, when I started working with Randy Rhoads, he was the first guy to go, ‘Maybe you should do it in this key.’  And I go, ‘Oh!’ He was a first guy to ever consider my opinion and give me a break. But I got an education working with Black Sabbath, it made it a little easier for me to work with other musicians. But with Randy, it was fun again!”

Q:  You’ve worked with a lot of guitarists in your solo career: Randy, Jake E. Lee, Zakk. Let’s talk a little bit about the differences between them.

OZZY OSBOURNE: “Well, Randy Rhoads was the best.  If I had to say which one of the guitar players you’d rather work with, who was the most musically trained, it was Randy, because he could write, he could read, he could play, he taught at his mother’s school, and he had patience with me. And he would work with me, as opposed to me having to work on top of what he put down. It was fun! Then he got tragically killed. And I’ll never forget it as long as I live. That story, we all know now. But, I mean, he was only a young man. He was in his early twenties. It just doesn’t seem right… I’m 70 years of age and it’s so sad when you think the guy got killed so early.

And then there was Jake E. Lee, he was another great player.  But then, Zakk is somewhere else, man! That guy gets faster and faster. Zakk has been with me longer than any guitar player ever! He’s been with me the longest and is one of the greatest friends I’ll ever have. He is a family member to me.  I mean, if I ever really needed him for anything, I could phone him up and he’d say, ‘I’ll be there in five minutes.’ And vice-versa. Zakk’s a hard-working guy. He works his balls off.”

Q:  You play a lot of the hits from this set every night on stage. Are there songs that resonate with you to this day?

OZZY OSBOURNE: “Well I don’t play songs that don’t do something for me.  We play ‘Crazy Train,’ ‘Mr. Crowley,’ ‘Bark at the Moon,’ every night.”

Q:  When you go onstage and play “Crazy Train,” is it a burden?

OZZY OSBOURNE: “No, I mean these songs are a part of me and what my show is about, but my job is to give the audience what they want and try my best to never disappoint them. I try my hardest to get that audience going, no matter what I have to do.”

Q:  Let’s talk about how you douse the audiences with water at your shows.

OZZY OSBOURNE:  “It all started when I threw a bucket of water at the audience…just one show and it kinda grew from there!  It’s all good fun, and I love it!”

Q&A WITH DJ DEBRIS
OF HILLTOP HOODS

What do you look forward to most on returning to North America this tour?

DJ DEBRIS: New venues, new faces and finishing the tour in Hawaii (somewhere I’ve never been).

You’ve performed with bands and fests in a wide scope of genres-from hip-hop to pop and even rock and alternative-what is it about your live performance do you think that enables that?

DJ DEBRIS: Our live set is very energetic and dynamic. We try to create an ebb and flow to our performance which lends itself well to different types of shows/venues/line-ups.

If you overheard one fan talking to another after leaving a show of yours, what would you like to hear them say about the gig?

DJ DEBRIS: Recently after a show in Europe, I overheard a fan saying to their friend that the show was transcendent, which I thought was a unique and pretty cool description.

What is your favorite old and new song to perform live, and why?

DJ DEBRIS: Favorite old song: ‘The Nosebleed Section’–it seems to work with any crowd. Favorite new song:  ‘Be Yourself’–I really enjoy scratching on this one (and I really love the tempo/groove on it too).

What has surprised you most in your career?

DJ DEBRIS: Selling 1,000,00 records in Australia!

Can you walk us through the special chemistry of the band and exactly why it works?

DJ DEBRIS: That’s a tough one… chemistry is something that’s either there or it isn’t, and not something that can be forged (in my opinion). Being great friends for so long and going thru so much together definitely helps though!

If you could collaborate with any artist, dead or alive, who would it be and why?

DJ DEBRIS: Biggie Smalls. He left a timeless and indelible mark on Hip Hop.

What songs or artists are currently on your playlist?

DJ DEBRIS: I’ve had Loyle Carner’s most recent album ‘Not Waving, But Drowning’ on repeat for the last few weeks. I’m a sucker for having one artist or album on repeat until I rinse the life from it.

Can you describe your best gig ever-and your worst one?

DJ DEBRIS: Best gig ever: the first time we played ‘Splendour in the Grass’,’ an Australian festival held in Byron Bay.
Worst gig ever:  RSL club (a veteran’s club) in Sydney, Australia when we were starting out. I think we played to 3 people. Haha.

Pop/Rock Duo EVARIDE Release Debut EP ‘Vol.1,’ Share “Limbo” Lyric Video

DT: NOVEMBER 1, 2019

FM: KELLY WALSH, MARCEE RONDAN

POP/ROCK DUO
EVARIDE
RELEASE DEBUT EP ‘VOL.1’

GROUP SHARES
LYRIC VIDEO FOR LATEST SINGLE
“LIMBO”

Following an overwhelming response to their debut single “Heartless,” the exciting Los Angeles-based pop/rock duo EVARIDE–vocalist Sean Michael Murray and guitarist Hayden Maringer–have today (November 1) officially released their debut EP, VOL. 1, across all digital platforms via AWAL/KOBALT.

Described by J-14 as “your newest obsession,” EVARIDE received viral success by racking up over four million streams on Spotify, an ‘Artist of The Month’ feature from iHeart Radio and performance sessions for iHeart Radio, Billboard, Shazam and Tidal.

Check out the VOL. 1 track listing below:

  1. Heartless
  2. What’s It All For?
  3. Warrior
  4. Skin and Bones
  5. Wanted
  6. Limbo

EVARIDE debuted in 2017 with their single “Heartless.” Murray was handpicked by Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day for the starring role of Johnny in the hit Broadway show American Idiot while Maringer, has toured with artists including Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato, and The Band Perry, and appeared on a multitude of performances on national television programs including the “American Country Music Awards,” “Billboard Music Awards,” “Ellen,” and “American Idol,” as well as appearing as the lead guitarist for the hit Fox TV show “Glee.”

The band worked alongside several top producers on VOL. 1 including Gregg Wattenberg (Train, Goo Goo Dolls, Gavin DeGraw, Daughtry and Phillip Phillips), Colin Brittain (All Time Low, 5 Seconds of Summer, Dashboard Confessional), Doug Rockwell (Hollywood Records, New Hope Club, Marvel Rising, Sabrina Carpenter), Grammy Award-winning mix engineer Chris Lord-Alge, Claudius Mittendorfer (Panic at The Disco, Fall Out Boy and Weezer) and Michel “Lindgren” Schulz (BTS’ “Boy with Luv”).

“We’re super excited to be launching our debut EP and hope everyone can relate to at least one song off it and take something away from it,” adds MURRAY. “We feel like every song, musically, has a little bit of something for everyone. Some of the songs are uplifting and motivational and others are more ‘questioning your own reality’ type songs, but also accepting sometimes what reality is and being ok with it, especially when certain things are out of your control.”

Stream VOL. 1 here: https://awal.ffm.to/evaride

The duo, who recently appeared live at Adam Carolla‘s World Championship of Guacamole event in Los Angeles, CA on October 19 and played alongside artists like Khalid and Bebe Rexha at JBL Fest in Las Vegas on October 11, have also shared a lyric video for their latest single “Limbo,” below:

“‘Limbo’ is a track we wrote very early on as a band,” explains MARINGER. “We wrote the song from our own experiences with love and relationships. Sometimes you reach a point in a relationship where you both end up unhappy, but still share love for one another. You look back and wonder how you can get back to what it was. You want to stay in that place forever and go back to the start. You want to stay lost in limbo and never leave. It is the last track on the EP because although it only took two days to write, it took two years to get it where we wanted production wise and sonically.”

(l-r; Hayden Maringer, Sean Michael Murray, photo credit: Shervin Lainez)

EVARIDE‘s music has been heard in several national TV shows and X/box/PlayStation games. Leading up to the EP’s release, especially the single “Warrior” which was the title song for the video game MLB RBI 2K19 and can also be heard during live sports telecasts including NCAA March Madness and NHL Stanley Cup Finals. The band even got a personalized shout-out from Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson via Twitter after hearing it on NBC’s “Titan Games,” of which he hosts. “Warrior” and “Wanted” were also featured on the latest season of NBC’s “World of Dance,” hosted by Jennifer Lopez.

VOL.1‘s five previously shared singles have had success in the streaming world, garnering eight million streams across all digital platforms and being included on several of Spotify‘s most popular official playlists including New Music Friday, Pop Rox, The New Alt, Moodbooster, and Its Alt Good, as well as on Apple Music‘s “Best of the Week (Hot Tracks).

HEART’S
ANN AND NANCY WILSON TALK ABOUT THEIR
MASSIVE AND ACCLAIMED
“LOVE ALIVE” SUMMER AND FALL TOUR

“Together, Nancy and I slipped into a new groove that worked!”
–ANN WILSON

Coming back together this time felt not only sweet but more relevant than the past few tours.”
NANCY WILSON

HEARTANN and NANCY WILSON–triumphantly returned to the road this year for their first tour in more than three years and the trendsetting, multiple-platinum Rock & Roll Hall of Fame legends talk about it in a new Q&A (below, along with tour photos).

The “LOVE ALIVE” tour featured a stellar all-female line-up with Joan Jett & The Blackhearts joining the majority of shows. The tour line-up varied from date to date, with Sheryl Crow and Brandi Carlile as special guests and support from Elle King and Lucie Silvas.

Along the way, the tour attracted packed audiences and earned wide critical acclaim.Armed with a musically diverse set list, ANN and NANCY were backed by Craig Bartock (guitar), Dan Walker (keyboards), Denny Fongheiser (drums and percussion), Andy Stoller (bass) and Ryan Waters (guitar).

ANN AND NANCY WILSON
Q&A
(October 2019)

Q: Congrats on the massive “Love Alive” tour. HEART performed hits, deep album cuts and covers of songs that shaped HEART. Can you tell us how important the set list was for this tour?

ANN: “It was important that we played to our early stuff just as much as our radio hits. Songs like ‘Rockin Heaven Down,’ ‘Mistral Wind,’ ‘Love Alive,’ ‘Little Queen’ and ‘Dog and Butterfly’ were in balance with the radio hits like ‘Magic Man,’ ‘Crazy On You,’ ‘Barracuda,’ ‘These Dreams’ and ‘Alone.’ We did only a very few covers that spiced up the set and honored our solo sides: ‘Your Move’ by Yes, ‘The Boxer’ by Simon and Garfunkel and ‘Stairway to Heaven’ by Led Zeppelin. This mix was very important to show what this band can do now. I feel this was the best all the Heart songs have been played ever. They took on power, weight and meaning in 2019.”

NANCY: “The set list for this tour was the key to the tour. Fan favorites and new versions of the classics kept it fresh and surprising.”

Q: While you both have toured over the last few years on your own, what was it like coming back together for the HEART tour?

ANN: “For me it was a thrill to put my voice and soul to the Heart songs. The two years of solo work taught me things about life and singing I never knew before. I felt like I was coming at this tour very strong and fresh. Together, Nancy and I slipped into a new groove that worked!”

NANCY: “Coming back together this time felt not only sweet but more relevant than the past few tours. We had renewed inspiration to play together after the long absence and we both brought along some new inspirations from our solo ventures.”

Q: HEART notably took out all-female artists on the tour. What was the dynamic of a bunch of women out on the road…onstage + backstage?

ANN: “The dynamic of the ‘Love Alive’ tour both onstage and backstage was friendly, warm and fresh. All the artists liked each other and each other’s music and were grateful to be a part of it. It was an honor to work with Brandi Carlile, Elle King, Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett and Lucie Silvas, as well as the other openers that joined over the months. All involved were very happy to be there! There were parties, dinners and hang times. All the musicians mixed and mingled. It was an authentically inspirational cross pollination of ideas and personalities.”

NANCY: “Working with other great female artists was something we’d avoided in the past, so as to not appear too gender specific. But the timing for it couldn’t have been better and the energy was wonderful.”

Q: If you overheard one fan talking to another after leaving a HEART show from this tour, what would you like to hear them say about the gig?

ANN: “I’d like to hear them say they caught the magic.”

NANCY: “I really love how fans love the songs. It’s great to think that what the fans take away is to relive all their favorite moments and feel inspired.”

Q: Can you talk about what’s next for HEART?

ANN: “It’s too early to say for sure, but new music is rolling around inside my head…”

NANCY: “Because the tour was so fulfilling, as well as quite successful, it’s fun to start imagining what the next step could be. A new song or two would be a beautiful thing!”

Here are some media highlights about the tour:

“…The rock ‘n’ roll of Heart is still beating…performed with renewed vigor…the women sounded exceptionally great throughout.”
–Kevin C. Johnson, ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH,
(Maryland Heights, MO), 7/10/19

“‘Ooh. Barra-cooo-da,’ wailed Ann Wilson, an upward inflection on that razor sharp ‘cooo‘ sticking like a switchblade on a sticky bar top. Meanwhile, her sister Nancy Wilson hammered that unmistakable galloping riff, with two other ace guitarists chugging along in unison like three well-oiled pistons powering Heart’s motoring classic, ‘Barracuda.’ As if closing this two-hour joy ride through the Northwest rock greats’ 40-plus-year career–with many scenic detours–with anything else were a serious option. The on-their-feet Tacoma Dome crowd erupted in appreciation after the final downhill churn…Ann Wilson’s voice is still in stunning form, her no-bull melisma and zero-to-60 highs impeccably sharp, but carrying an underlying resonance like a less shrill Robert Plant. As ’70s-esque red-and-blue lasers danced on the ceiling, the powerhouse vocalist hit another level during a chilling ‘Mistral Wind’–her unshakable belting filling every cranny of the arena, from the peak of the dome to the farthest bathroom stall…Heart’s decades-spanning career has sustained greater peaks and valleys than Ann Wilson’s darting vocal phrasing, making them one of rock’s great enduring acts. With the Wilson sisters back together again, that legacy remains intact.”
–Michael Rietmulder, SEATTLE TIMES,
(Tacoma, WA), 9/5/19

“…Power-ballad ‘Alone’ and the crowd-rousing ‘Barracuda’ capped off the night, confirmed what was already plainly obvious: any way you cut it, Heart still rocks. Hard.”
–T’Cha Dunlevy, MONTREAL GAZETTE (Montreal, Quebec), 7/17/19

“Ann still sounds amazing and Nancy still plays and sings as well as ever, and yes, it is still magic when these two side by side on stage. The band is already tight and the sisters seemed to pick up right where they left off. As this tour gains momentum, I’m confident it will only get better…This tour delivered on every level–production, sound, quality performance, it was all in place. I did not see or hear one single disappointed concertgoer on this night. The bottom line is that Heart still delivers an amazing rock-and-roll show well worth your time and I highly recommend seeing these two icons if you have the chance.”
–Keith Brake, THE TELEGRAPH (Maryland Heights, MO), 7/11/19

“…Ann remains a powerhouse vocalist live–one of rock’s all time great singers…”
–Jim Ryan, Forbes,
(Milwaukee, WI), 10/14/19

“A revitalized Heart wasted no time dropping fan favorites ‘Rockin’ Heaven Down’ and ‘Magic Man,’ the latter of which highlighted Nancy Wilson‘s sultry syncopated strums. Soon, “Straight On” represented the first ‘Dog & Butterfly‘ song of the night–the album’s title track and ‘Mistral Wind’ also made welcome appearances during the performance–providing each Wilson sister with a platform to showcase their distinct styles and the many ways they effortlessly bob and weave together. Nancy’s flower child energy, shrouded in a mysterious aura, juxtaposed Ann’s unflinching command of center stage, a sly smile fixed on her face each time she stepped towards the microphone.”

About HEART:
When Ann and Nancy Wilson formed HEART, the idea of two women leading a rock band was still groundbreaking. From the moment 1976‘s Dreamboat Annie was released, they became stars. With hits like “Magic Man,” “Crazy On You,” “Barracuda,” “Alone,” “What About Love,” and “These Dreams,” the band became one of the biggest hit-makers in the seventies and eighties selling more than 35 million records. In 2012, their memoir Kicking & Dreaming: A Story of Heart, Soul and Rock & Roll became a New York Times bestseller, and in 2013 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Los Angeles-based acoustic guitarist, singer, and songwriter IAN GOTHE has shared the first offering from his debut album MEMENTO via his interpretation of the Doors classic “Spanish Caravan.” The video was premiered yesterday (October 30) via Guitar Player magazine in advance of the single’s November 1 release. Look for the album, co-produced by IAN with Grammy-winning producer and engineer Jim Scott (Wilco, Tom Petty), to be available February 7, 2020 via the California-based Blackbird Record Label.

Ian Gothe - Spanish Caravan

IAN GOTHE – “Spanish Caravan” Music Video

GOTHE, an Armenian-American born in Iran who came to Los Angeles as a teenager, recorded MEMENTO at Scott‘s Plyrz Studios in Valencia, CA. It features performances by all-star musicians Derek Frank (Shania Twain, Gwen Stefani), Fernando Perdomo (Jakob Dylan, Fiona Apple), Tamir Barzilay (Macy Gray, Tal Wilkenfeld), and Sam Babayan (The Dirty Diamond). *Read a Q&A below with GOTHE about “Spanish Caravan,” a song well-known for its complex and compelling guitar riffs that still capture audiences’ attention today.

GOTHE spent much of his adolescence traveling across continents in search of a home. A childhood filled with loss and loneliness provided the impetus for GOTHE to continually turn to music as his friend and confidant. His initial inspiration came from a recording of the Doors’ “Spanish Caravan.” GOTHE was not immune, and his petition for a guitar of his own was driven by his desire to play those well-worn, haunting lines with ease. After GOTHE and his hard-won guitar left Iran before the revolution, the 14-year-old lived with family in England and later made his way to the United States by way of a year in Baltimore before finally settling in Los Angeles, where he lives today.

GOTHE‘s musical career has been marked by false starts and missed opportunities, a reality not unexpected for a young man in the throes of wandering and learning about both music and life on his own. While in his early twenties, GOTHE composed a high-energy dance song, “Cleopatra, produced by Christian DeWalden, that became a number one hit in Italy, but years of career pursuits and family life ultimately relegated music to an occasional hobby. After the dissolution of his 20-year marriage, GOTHE returned to his first love by way of an open mic night that led to the start of an artistic relationship with Manda Mosher that continues to this day. Citing the influences of British bands such as Camel and Genesis, and many less well-known musicians, GOTHE‘s style is an eclectic triumph that fuses not only musical genres but also crosses language barriers as well with songs that feature both English and his native Armenian.

Memento begins with a hauntingly melodic flute piece, “Andalusian Moondance, a dreamy start to an album that unwinds with unrelenting musical prowess mixed with delicate beauty. Classics such as the Bee Gees’ “Holiday, Camel’s “Airborne and The Doors’ “Spanish Caravan each come to life with passionate arrangements and masterful instrumentation that reflect GOTHE‘s devotion to these pillars of his artistic musical history. Interspersed with these canonical songs are originals such as Take Me Home,” written in Armenian; the evocative melody is his lyrical tribute to the universal longing to return home. “Tired Little Eyes,” which closes the album, is also written and performed in Armenian. It’s a delicate lullaby written as a tribute to GOTHE‘s late younger brother and a reminder that his brother will never be forgotten. In both “One Of These Days,” a mournful original ballad, and “Final Hour,” a song by Kathryn Pollock, we hear GOTHE pay tribute to both love and family as he seeks to let go. “Liezah,” a beautiful cover of the jaunty British song by The Coral, provides a cheery tribute to GOTHE‘s time in England.  “Blood On The Rooftops In Montrose” is an instrumental piece written about his current home, and it’s also his homage to legendary Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. The intro to the song is by Hackett (“Blood On The Rooftops,” from the Genesis album Wind & Wuthering) paired with an original piece by GOTHE. The original song is about a couch potato, and GOTHE keeps the theme of television as he uses classical guitar lines to reflect our connection to technology.

GOTHE brings to his compositions and arrangements a depth that can only be found in those who have dedicated themselves to their craft. The artistic choices that GOTHE makes are evidence of an artist who has emerged from a journey, confident and ready to create from a place of authentic introspection.

Q&A WITH IAN GOTHE ABOUT “SPANISH CARAVAN”

What attracted you to interpret this classic by The Doors
When I was 12 years old, I was looking through my cousin’s record collection and on the turntable there was a record. I pressed play and what I heard totally mesmerized me, it was “Spanish Caravan” by The Doors, the first track on side B. That’s when I said to myself, “I want to learn to play the guitar.”

Why do you feel this song is a good first entrée to his album?
To me “Spanish Caravan” has elements of classical, rock, jazz, prog and folk music all in one song, that’s why I fell it would be a good first entrée to my album. And Memento is an eclectic album.

Where did you shoot the video, which was directed by Martin Yernazian?
I chose to shoot the video at PLYRZ (Valencia, CA) where we recorded the album so people could see the magical space where all these creations were made.

Which guitars did you use for the recording and video of “Spanish Caravan”?
For recording of “Spanish Caravan,” I used my handmade 2007 A.J. Lucas guitar, a luthier from England. For the video of “Spanish Caravan,” I used my handmade guitar by a luthier in Canada by the name of Alan de Jonge.

LEE ROCKER of the Stray Cats Today Releases New Single and Video, “Dog House Shuffle”

DT:      OCTOBER 30, 2019

FM:     MITCH SCHNEIDER/ANDREA FAULK, SRO PR

LEE ROCKER
OF THE STRAY CATS
TODAY RELEASES NEW SINGLE AND VIDEO “DOG HOUSE SHUFFLE”
VIA ROCKER’S LABEL UPRIGHT RECORDS

PREMIERED VIA BILLBOARD HERE

Lee Rocker - Dog House Shuffle (Official Video)

LEE ROCKER of The Stray Cats fame today (October 30) has released a new self-written-and produced single and video, “Dog House Shuffle,” via his label Upright Records (distributed through Orchard). The single and video premiered yesterday via Billboard.

‘Dog House Shuffle’ is a song that I had a blast writing and thinking about,” says the bassist, singer and songwriter. “It’s just plain fun!  It’s really my tribute to the original rocking bass players that have influenced me so much. These guys are in a way the unsung heroes of rockabilly and early rock. We’ve incorporated these players into this video.”

Elaborates ROCKER about the legendary musicians who are seen in the video: “Bill Black was Elvis Presley‘s bassman–he drove the mystery train groove that helped break the king Elvis Presley. Also included in the video is the genius of bass players, Willie Dixon. Marshall Grant is in there as a member of the Tennessee Two with Johnny Cash. Dorsey ‘Rockabilly Boogie’ Burnette and my dear friend Carl Perkins with his bass slapping brother Jay— these were the architects of rock and roll. Me and the Stray Cats can trace parts of our sound back to these players. I just gotta say (quoting the song’s lyrics), ‘Put that old guitar right back in that case/Now it’s the time I’m gunna slap the bass.’ Let’s have some fun with the ‘Dog House Shuffle.'” The video also features ROCKER and his musicians recording the track and cool cartoon animation.

Musicians joining ROCKER (vocal, string bass) on the single are Buzz Campbell (guitar, backing vocal), Larry Mitchell (drums, percussion), Justin Rocker (acoustic guitar, backing vocal), and Joey Eight (piano, harmonica and backing vocal).

ROCKER recently revealed his 2020 U.K. dates following his previously announced 2019/2020 U.S. and Canada tour. Coming off this year’s Stray Cats 40th anniversary tour with red-hot shows and their critically acclaimed album 40 (Surfdog Records),   ROCKER and his band will perform Stray Cats hits including “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut” and “Sexy and 17” as well as slamming renditions of songs from his many solo albums. See his full touring itinerary below.

This past summer, LEE ROCKER toured America as part of The Stray Cats from August 2-September 1 (presented by SiriusXM) on the heels of the band’s June and July overseas shows where he “muscled his double bass as he dropped, dragged, straddled, slapped and swung it with mastery” (Big Takeover, 8/19/19). In a multiple-page feature in the new Bass Player magazine (December 2019), ROCKER is asked about his ability to come up with fresh rockabilly bass-lines. He says: “I’m still discovering things. I still have revelations: ‘how did I not think of this before?’ There are a lot of different rhythms and slaps, and different ways to walk your bass-lines. There’s only 12 notes but there’s an infinite number of ways to play them.”

About Lee Rocker:
Lee Rocker made his mark singing, playing, standing on, spinning and rocking his giant upright bass in the legendary music group The Stray Cats. Grammy-nominated, The Stray Cats have sold nearly 10 million albums and garnered an astounding 23 gold and platinum certified records worldwide. Founded by Rocker, Brian Setzer, and Slim Jim Phantom, The Stray Cats remain a radio staple, were music video pioneers at the infancy of MTV, and repeatedly brought rockabilly music to the top of the charts. From the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine, to appearing on Saturday Night Live, to headlining music festivals and touring with the Rolling Stones, Lee Rocker has seen and done it all. In addition to The Stray Cats and the Rolling Stones, Rocker has toured and performed with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, and John Fogerty. In 1982, Rocker and his father Stanley Drucker (classical clarinetist) both received Grammy nominations; this was something that has only occurred twice in the history of the Grammy Awards.  In 2012 Lee appeared on Broadway in the hit musical “Million Dollar Quartet” and in 2014 he was inducted into the Bass Player Hall of Fame. Rocker has received numerous honors for his contributions to music and the arts, including being inducted to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and he is a recipient of the Visionary Artist Award by the City of Laguna Beach California. Currently Lee Rocker and his band are touring and performing Stray Cats hits including “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut” and “Sexy and 17” as well as slamming renditions of songs from his many solo albums.

ICE NINE KILLS ENLIST HORROR ICON ARI LEHMAN ON “THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY(ACOUSTIC)”

DT: OCTOBER 25, 2019

ICE NINE KILLS
TEAM UP WITH HORROR ICON
ARI LEHMAN
FOR ACOUSTIC VERSION OF
“THANK GOD IT’S FRIDAY”

THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT
OUT TODAY

In honor of the most haunting time of the year, horror-inspired metal outfit ICE NINE KILLS have released THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT, a frightfully enticing deluxe version of their critically acclaimed Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart-topping fourth album.

Out today, October 25, via Fearless Records, the ‘Final Cut‘ edition includes the album’s original 13 tracks along with the recently premiered new track, “Your Numbers Up,” a cover version of the famous hit “Thriller,” their full-length feature horror film The Silver Scream, and four bone-chilling acoustic renditions of previously released singles.
ICE NINE KILLS have also released a video stream for the new acoustic rendition of “Thank God It’s Friday” featuring none other than Ari Lehman, who first portrayed the immortal serial killer Jason Voorhees from the original 1980 iconic slasher film, Friday The 13th.
“I am honored to be singing alongside the amazingly talented Spencer Charnas on this track,” says LEHMAN. “ICE NINE KILLS will captivate you with their virtuoso sound and compelling lyrics–Thank God It’s Friday has VOORHEES POWER!”
“Friday the 13th and Jason have always been an obsession for me,” reveals vocalist SPENCER CHARNAS. “When I had the idea to reach out to Ari about singing on our acoustic tribute, I never expected in a million years for it to actually happen. To find out that Ari was not only a fan of INK, but 100% willing to join us on the track, was a moment I won’t soon forget. He brings such a rich authenticity to this song with his charismatic voice and his involvement helps elevate the piece to another level. To hear the FIRST Jason from arguably one of the most iconic scenes in horror history sing the line, “he drowned in all our sins,” evokes the same goosebumps I got when I first saw the film.”
Dive right in, if you dare, and listen to “Thank God It’s Friday (Acoustic feat. Ari Lehman)” below!

Additional guests on THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUTinclude Grammy-nominated musician Matt Heafy (Trivium), Chelsea Talmadge (Stranger Things) and Sam Kubrick (grandson of Stanley Kubrick who famously directed The Shining).

Purchase THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT now at store.iceninekills.com or listen digitally on all streaming platforms.

Industrial goth/rock quartet DAVEY SUICIDE will release their fourth album–ROCK AINT DEAD–on January 24, 2020 via Out Of Line Music/InGrooves. Featuring 13 tracks of their signature blend of arena rock, sleaze, and industrial music with a theatrical edge, the album was mixed and produced by Charles Kallaghan Massabo (Falling In Reverse) at Kallaghan Studios in Los Angeles, CA while being mastered by Shawn McGhee (Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Hellyeah) at Artistry Studios in Las Vegas, NV.

Pre-order ROCK AINT DEAD now at www.daveysuicidemerch.com
DAVEY SUICIDE premiered the music video for the album’s title track yesterday, Thursday, October 24, via Alternative Press who described it as “A cross between George Lucas’ 1971 sci-fi thriller THX 1138 and a titillating vampire movie (with a slight tribute to Aphex Twin’s ‘Come To Daddy’).”

Directed by Richard Villa III of Exhibit A Gallery, the video takes place in the year 2039 in a dystopian society that has dissolved the rock genre. Watch the “Rock Aint Dead” video in full below. (Note: Skip ahead to the 6:13 mark for just the single.)

Davey Suicide – “Rock Aint Dead”

“In a not so distant future, all aspects of human existence are being controlled,” DAVEY SUICIDE says, explaining the video. “Where ‘silence is a virtue’ and most freedoms like artistic expression are forbidden in a world of fabricated reality. Those in power have determined that Rock music has no redeemable qualities, is corrupting the culture and is no longer an acceptable form of music or entertainment.”

“In the year 2039 in Los Angeles, Rock music is no more than delusional memories of a sadistic past of the unevolved. Rock music and other antisocial expressions are forbidden in this new perfectly sterile society. All creative expressions have been deemed socially toxic and poison to human uniformity. The only way for anyone to be expressive or to experience any form of creativity is through the illegal use of Drug Enhanced Virtual Reality (DEVR). This underground DEVR experience is only obtained by those who seek it on the streets of back alleys hidden in the shadows. For those wanting to participate in this type of DEVR experience, there is this warning:
‘This type of music is forbidden and any partaking in it is punishable by death. Proceed at your own risk'”

“Would you like to proceed with your experience?”

DAVEY SUICIDE previously shared the music video for the debut single “Medicate Me” which features guest vocals from Telle Smith (The Word Alive) and stars actress Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween I & II, The Runaways); check it out HERE. Additional guest appearances include Gustav Wood (Young Guns), Hyro The Hero and Lexus Amanda (Blacklisted Me).
