3x Grammy-nominated rock outfit NOTHING MORE’s latest studio album SPIRITS is out today (October 14) via Better Noise Music across all platforms. On their new album, SPIRITS, NOTHING MORE—Jonny Hawkins (vocals), Mark Vollelunga (guitar, backing vocals), Daniel Oliver (bass) and Ben Anderson (drums), pair unapologetically massive anthems, catchy hooks, and progressive music with introspective, philosophical lyrics and thought-provoking emotionalism. From the Top 5 Active Rock charting lead single “TIRED OF WINNING” and its fan-driven extended version “TIRED OF WINNING / SHIPS IN THE NIGHT” to fist-pounding banger “TURN IT UP LIKE” and their most recent impassioned single “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANS,SPIRITS documents the impact the past two years of lockdown and turmoil has had on the world capturing society’s desperation, mental health struggles and self-realizations. Inspired by philosophers including Alan Watts and Carl Jung, NOTHING MORE have also launched their own meta-personality test, “SPIRITS TEST,” developed by Hawkins which measures psychometrics to determine your “SPIRIT TYPE”—a personality description that shows your correlating elements, paths and perceptions.

“This album is a mass experiment to see which SPIRIT TYPES connect to particular songs on the record,” collectively shares NOTHING MORE. “Go to spiritstest.com and then listen to our new album.”

In their latest music video for “BEST TIMES,” NOTHING MORE stress the power of living in the moment. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Robyn August (“Party With Me,” Snoop Dogg, Pitbull, Set It Off), the video displays the band’s unique mix of rock balladry and the full-on rock that the band is known for. The “BEST TIMES” music video can be seen now via YouTube (HERE) or streaming below.

“This song is a living reminder to live in the now,” shares Hawkins. “Often the best times of our lives escape us, unrecognized and unappreciated in the moment. It’s not until time passes that our mind reveals what our heart always knew.”

NOTHING MORE are currently on tour alongside Sleep Token and In This Moment throughout October 24 including appearances at some of the country’s top rock festivals (Aftershock Festival, Blue Ridge Rock Festival, Rocklahoma, Inkcarceration and Louder Than Life). Their incendiary live show has been acclaimed by critics in recent reviews who’ve praised their performance as follows:

“It’s impossible to not be drawn in by the band’s electric stage presence, stunning musicianship and the songs themselves (which everyone knew by heart of course).”
ATLAS ARTIST GROUP (6/20)

“If any rock concert in recent memory is sure to leave a lasting impression in my mind, it will certainly be the day Nothing More graced The Wellmont with their energetic, unapologetic, and absolutely electric performance. This is the kind of rock band you need to see with your own eyes to believe, and once you’ve experienced their eclectic performance for yourself, you will have a higher standard for rock concerts as a whole, if any other band has the hope of keeping up with Nothing More.”

As three-time Grammy-nominated hard rock quartet NOTHING MORE gear up to hit the road later this month alongside IN THIS MOMENT, the band have shared a fourth new track, “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANS,” from their upcoming album SPIRITS – out October 14 and available for pre-order now. The impassioned song examines what happens when one tries to make a one-sided relationship work with all-too-real lyrics— “I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, there’s no rest, there’s no peace”—which leads into frontman JONNY HAWKINS’ fervently belting out its chorus, “You don’t know what love means, and it’s killing me.” Watch the official video below and stream/download “YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANS” here: https://nothingmore.ffm.to/youdontknowwhatlovemeans

“We’re glad this song is finally getting out there so we can dig into the emotional and intimate side of the album,” says Hawkins. “The lyrics and tone of this one feels like it hits in a similar way that ‘Go To War’ and ‘Jenny’ did. It’s going to feel huge playing this next one on tour.”

YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT LOVE MEANS” follows previously released album tracks “SPIRITS” and “TURN IT UP LIKE.” The lead-off track “TIRED OF WINNING” is currently #6 on Billboard’s Active Rock chart, and the extended version, “TIRED OF WINNING / SHIPS IN THE NIGHT, is also included on THE RETALIATIORS ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK for Better Noise Film’s upcoming horror-thriller THE RETALIATORS. Pre-order tickets for the movie and the soundtrack featuring Nothing More at http://www.retaliatorsmovie.com

SPIRITS combines NOTHING MORE’s unapologetically massive anthems, catchy hooks, and progressive music with introspective, philosophical lyrics and thought-provoking emotionalism. Its eleven tracks were co-written by all band members–Hawkins [vocals], Mark Vollelunga [guitar], Daniel Oliver [bass], and Ben Anderson [drums]–and their longtime manager and co-producer Will Hoffman. The album documents the tumultuous time the world experienced over the past two years capturing the desperation and isolation of lockdown, the spiral of substance abuse, the pain of broken relationships, and survival in self-reliance while summarizing the overall story and mission of NOTHING MORE: Reflect, Provoke, Inspire. Pre-order SPIRITS now at: https://nothingmore.ffm.to/spirits.

The band has further embellished the SPIRITS concept with their self-designed meta-personality test, “SPIRITS TEST,” and their first-ever graphic novel “SPIRITS VOL.1” (Z2 Comics), which introduces the “SPIRIT TYPES,” which stem from the results of taking the “SPIRITS TEST” as the four main characters in the graphic novel. Find out your SPIRIT TYPE by taking the SPIRITS TEST at https://spiritstest.com/. Pre-order “SPIRITS VOL. 1” (due in Spring 2023) to find out more about your SPIRIT TYPE and the album’s story here: z2comics.com/nothingmore.

NOTHING MORE will bring their mesmerizing live performance—including their crowd favorite “Scorpion Tail” (a 400-pound, 14-foot MIDI controller constructed out of salvaged metal scraps by bassist Daniel Oliver that allows Hawkins to control the music while delivering his theatrical stage presence)—to audiences across the U.S. later this month as they kick off a three-month tour in direct support of In This Moment from 8/26 to 10/23. During the run, NOTHING MORE will branch off for a handful of headlining shows with support from British rockers Sleep Token and rock & roll burlesque dance troupe Cherry Bombs, in addition to dropping in at a few of rock’s biggest festivals, including Louder Than Life, Rocklahoma, Aftershock and Blue Ridge Rock Festival. Tickets are on sale now as well as VIP upgrades at https://nothingmore.net.

Three-time Grammy-nominated rock outfit NOTHING MORE have released an extended version of their current Top 10 Billboard Active Rock charting hit single “TIRED OF WINNING” (#8) due to popular demand. The extended version “TIRED OF WINNING / SHIPS IN THE NIGHT” is out today, July 29, across digital platforms HERE. The extended track is taken from their upcoming album SPIRITS due October 14 via Better Noise Music and was first revealed in the group’s sci-fi oriented music video (seen here) released in April. It garnered immediate attention from fans requesting the extended version also be released digitally. “TIRED OF WINNING / SHIPS IN THE NIGHT” will also be featured on the official soundtrack for the upcoming Better Noise Films horror-thriller movie THE RETALIATORS in cinemas worldwide on September 14. THE RETALIATORS OFFICIAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK will be released via Better Noise Music on September 16 and includes tracks from labelmates including Motley Crue, Tommy Lee, Papa Roach, Five Finger Death Punch and more.

NOTHING MORE are also excited to share they have partnered with Z2 Comics (The Doors, Machine Gun Kelly, The Grateful Dead) to release their first-ever graphic novel “SPIRITS VOL.1” authored by Dan Watters (Cowboy Bebop, Arkham City: The Order of The World) and illustrated by Christian Rosado. The graphic novel will be released in Spring 2023 and be available in a standard edition hardcover, a deluxe edition oversized hardcover, a limited deluxe edition oversized hardcover hand-signed by band (999 copies total) and a special tour-only softcover only available for purchase in-person at NOTHING MORE shows or directly via their website.

The band recently unveiled their own meta-personality test, “SPIRITS TEST,” developed by frontman JONNY HAWKINS, which features 25 psychometric questions then determines your “SPIRIT TYPE.” Each SPIRIT TYPE has its own character and personality descriptions which are further explored in the upcoming graphic novel. Deluxe edition bundles for “SPIRITS VOL. 1” will highlight the SPIRIT TYPES with bundles including SPIRITS art prints, cards, an Eight-Sided Nothing More Spirits Octahedron, SPIRITS enamel pin, an exclusive color variant SPIRITS vinyl and more.

HAWKINS explains more on the “SPIRITS TEST” and “SPIRIT TYPES”:
“The comic book focuses on four of the Spirit Types. As we were making the album, I came up with the concept for the Spirits Test. Imagine if the zodiac had a baby with the Meyers Briggs personality test, and that baby came out with a fascination with cryptic iconography and metal music… that is this test. Each of us has a Spirit Type and this comic book is an artistic expression of how those Spirit Types come to life in a world very much like our own.

Guitarist MARK VOLLELUNGA shares how the idea for a graphic novel developed:
“I set forth on this collaboration with Z2 comics, and our manager, Will Hoffman, with the idea to expand the NOTHING MORE world and allow the reader to dive deeper down the rabbit hole and elaborate on what these Spirit Types mean; where they came from and why they exist. We wanted to write stories that invoke a compelling sense of empathy and wonder while maintaining a very personal connection to NOTHING MORE songs. Dan Watters was the perfect dude for the job. He’s such a brilliant, captivating writer. Both of us shared inspiration from shows like The OA and Sense 8 and we wanted to accentuate the differences all people have when something in your life wrecks you… and that even though these differences may seem polarizing, we all still need each other.  It’s because of these differences that you learn to survive and grow. This story shows that great strength and mutual respect come to those who learn how to embrace one another despite such differences.”

A handful of new headlining and support shows have been recently announced, see below for a full list of upcoming dates or visit https://nothingmore.net/. “With socially conscious and personal lyrics, bouncing energy, grooving riffs, and soaring vocals the band demands your attention,” lauds Concert Addicts (6/15), after seeing the band on their recent co-headlining tour with Asking Alexandria earlier this year. Previously NOTHING MORE have toured with hard rock heavyweights like Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach and Disturbed, and been seen on several popular rock festivals–Rocklahoma, Welcome To Rockville, Inkcarceration, Rock Fest, etc.

Three-time Grammy-nominated, San Antonio-based rock outfit NOTHING MORE have added an extra element to their upcoming album SPIRITS, due October 14 via BETTER NOISE MUSIC with their very own “SPIRITS TEST.” Developed over recent years by front man JONNY HAWKINS, the SPIRITS TEST combines what’s been learned from similar personality tests including Myers-Briggs, The Big 5, Carl Jung and the Zodiac.

Throughout 25 questions, the SPIRITS TEST measures psychometrics of your dominant modes and perceptions to determine your “SPIRIT TYPE.” Each SPIRIT TYPE has its own personality description with correlating elements, paths and perceptions as well as symbolic characters which the band have revealed across recent releases. The SPIRITS TEST artwork (as seen below) was illustrated by Micah Ulrich (Lacuna Coil, Chelsea Grin, Post Malone). Watch the below video for an introduction to the SPIRITS TEST from HAWKINS. Take the SPIRITS TEST now at https://spiritstest.com/ and share your results online with the band by using the hashtag #SpiritsTest.

NOTHING MORE recently shared a lyric video for the upcoming album’s title track “SPIRITS” which follows two previous singles/videos: “TURN IT UP LIKE (Stand In The Fire)” and their current Top 10 Billboard Active Rock radio single “TIRED OF WINNING.” SPIRITS highlights the band’s most focused, adventurous, and intense music, uniting introspective philosophical lyrics with unapologetically massive anthems. “With their smoldering intensity, sweeping chords, unpredictable drums and emotive lyrics, Nothing More is a fascinating band that doesn’t care about checking off genre boxes, instead focusing on cranking out some truly awesome music,” lauds Get Rocked (5/29). Pre-order SPIRITS now at https://nothingmore.ffm.to/spirits.

Known for their live performance–which Atlas Artist Group described by saying “it’s impossible to not be drawn in by the band’s electric stage presence, stunning musicianship and the songs themselves”– NOTHING MORE will be seen on tour this fall as direct support to rockers In This Moment from August 26 to October 18 (the full dates are below). The tour will include a handful of one-off headlining shows featuring support from British rock collective Sleep Token and rock & roll dance troupe Cherry Bombs as well as a stop at Louder Than Life Festival in Louisville, KY. Prior to the tour, NOTHING MORE—who just completed a co-headlining run across the U.S. with Asking Alexandria, Atreyu and Eva Under Fire—will also appear in July at some of the summer’s biggest rock festivals including Rock Fest, Upheaval Festival and Inkcarceration Festival.

ABOUT NOTHING MORE

Rock audiences count NOTHING MORE among the most cherished acts, the kind of band who straddle the line between populism and intimacy with every performance. The San Antonio, Texas-born quartet builds unapologetically massive anthems from catchy hooks. Crowd-pleasers clear a path for heady, confessional, thought-provoking emotionalism. Fresh rewards reveal themselves with repeat listens, welcoming like-minded seekers with rich melodicism, like the best of Deftones or Tool.

Those who saw the band on tour with hard rock heavyweights like Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Breaking Benjamin, Papa Roach, and Disturbed will attest to what The Guardian observed: “There’s a sophistication to NOTHING MORE’s angst that raises them above the tumult-tossed pit.”

Kerrang! named NOTHING MORE one of 22 Artists Shaping the Future of Rock, alongside Nine Inch Nails, Twenty One Pilots, and Bring Me The Horizon. And frontman Jonny Hawkins, who met guitarist Mark Vollelunga before they were old enough to drive, appeared with Billie Joe Armstrong, Dave Grohl, and Hayley Williams in the English tastemaker’s Top 50 Greatest Rockstars in the World.

Hawkins and Vollelunga started the band in 2003 and were quickly joined by bassist Daniel Oliver and later by drummer Ben Anderson. The band’s blend of explosive bombast and nuanced storytelling resulted in a half dozen Top 10 singles at Mainstream Rock Radio, including the No. 1 hit “Go to War” and the Sirius XM Octane song of the decade and Active Rock chart-topper “This is the Time (Ballast).” The Stories We Tell Ourselves earned a head-turning three Grammy nominations. They’re set to follow it up with a new album in 2022, which is filled with their most philosophical and primal music to date. The first offering, “TURN IT UP LIKE,” released in March 2022, is a fitting first taste of what’s to come.

NOTHING MORE appeals to fans of Linkin Park, Incubus, Rage Against The Machine, and all crucial acts that stoke relatable passion with authenticity and integrity. Memorize the arena-ready hooks. Get mesmerized by the intimate, communal live show. Dig deeper down the rabbit hole into the work of philosophers and artists like Eckhart Tolle, Carl Jung, and Alan Watts, who inspire the band. There’s a place for every type of rock fan with NOTHING MORE. Built to last, here to stay.

Coinciding with the news, NOTHING MORE are excited to share the album’s title track “SPIRITS,” which was released today (June 24), across all digital platforms along with its lyric video. Stream/download “Spirits” now and watch the lyric video HERE.

“Isn’t it interesting that we give the same name to something holy and something wholly intoxicating?” asks NOTHING MORE frontman JONNY HAWKINS. “The song ‘SPIRITS’ describes that very conundrum. When you drink liquor, it has been said that you are welcoming that pneuma (spirit) into your body.  Most of us have seen and experienced how alcohol (or rather ‘al-ghawl,’ which means demon/spirit) can make us feel.  It’s almost as if we turn into someone else when too much of the spirit has been consumed.  Sometimes it’s eye opening and can lead to wondrous life-changing conversations or bonds that would never normally happen…and sometimes it can lead to the exact opposite.  It may turn us into Dr. Hyde’s Jekyll and cause us to do or say horrific things we would never normally do sober.  Spirits are both a little bit heavenly and a little bit sick.”

Earlier this week NOTHING MORE announced a fall tour with heavy rockers In This Moment. It will stretch from August 26 to October 22 and include stops at several of the largest rock festivals including Blue Ridge Rock Festival, Louder Than Life, Rocklahoma and Aftershock. “The fire, passion and momentum we feel from our first tour back is insane!” exclaims HAWKINS. “It only makes sense to bring that same fire to the fall with a one-of-a-kind tour with In This Moment.” Tickets go on sale today at 10:00 A.M. local time at https://nothingmore.net. See full dates listed below.

NOTHING MORE were recently seen on tour across the U.S. on a co-headlining run with Asking Alexandria, who had to drop-off mid-tour due to health problems. The band relentlessly continued to lead the remaining dates with their exciting live show which saw the return of their infamous “Scorpion Tail”—a 400-pound, 14-foot MIDI controller constructed out of salvaged metal scraps by bassist Daniel Oliver that brings Hawkins’ electrifying stage presence to life musically. “It’s not only a wild theatrical display, it allows Jonny to manipulate the band’s sound using a series of levers through a musical instrument digital interface,” noted MUSIC MADNESS MAGAZINE (6/1/22). “It’s a big part of the show as the crowd went wild whenever Jonny took to the air.” There’s been no shortage of praise for NOTHING MORE’s fervent performances. “If any rock concert in recent memory is sure to leave a lasting impression in my mind, it will certainly be the day Nothing More graced The Wellmont with their energetic, unapologetic, and absolutely electric performance,” proclaimed Asbury Park Vibes (5/31/22) journalist/photographer Anthony Vito Cosentino. “This is the kind of rock band you need to see with your own eyes to believe, and once you’ve experienced their eclectic performance for yourself, you will have a higher standard for rock concerts as a whole.”

NOTHING MORE gave fans the first preview of SPIRITS with two singles–their in-your-face rock anthem “TURN IT UP LIKE (Stand in the Fire)” and their most recent Top 20 Billboard Active Rock radio single “TIRED OF WINNING” which is currently at #11. SPIRITS was co-written and produced by the band—Hawkins (vocals), Oliver (bass), Mark Vollelunga (guitar) and Ben Anderson (drums)—and their longtime manager Will Hoffman. It documents the tumultuous time the world experienced over the past two years capturing the desperation and isolation of lockdown, the spiral of substance abuse, the pain of broken relationships and survival in self-reliance while summarizing the overall story and mission of NOTHING MORE: Reflect, Provoke, Inspire.

“One of the most energetic live acts on the rock circuit” – BILLBOARD

NEW YORK, NY – APRIL 29, 2022 – Today, Multi-GRAMMY-nominated rock act NOTHING MORE released their new single “TIRED OF WINNING” via Better Noise Music, which serves as the first official radio single from their long-awaited new studio album. The song is a high-energy rock anthem unapologetically confronting the state of humanity with lyrics like “ So will we steer this ship straight through the void / Or turn on ourselves and die out/ Are you tired of winning? / Cuz it’s already over.” “TIRED OF WINNING” is now available to download or stream across platforms HERE. The official music video for the track also premiered today, giving fans thought-provoking, sci-fi inspired visuals that amplify the poignant lyrics. WATCH HERE.

For more background on “TIRED OF WINNING,” the band’s frontman Jonny Hawkins gives context behind the song’s origin in the below Q&A.

Last month, the band gave fans the first official preview of the new album by dropping a new song and music video titled “TURN IT UP LIKE (Stand in the Fire).” Co-written by all four band members, the song is a sonic rejection of the divisive, digitally-drowned state of the world with lyrics like: “All my friends are dead / They all got fucked by the internet / All my friends are dead / Our brain’s bein’ bugged by the media.” Billboard gave an exclusive look at the music video, including some statements from Hawkins. He said, “Something we’ve always pushed for as a band is to question everything. And I think we’ve just gone through a period where it had been unfashionable to question things. Because if you did, you were the pariah, you were the outcast, the other. For the last few years, I’ve felt like an animal in a cage, just pacing, and my teeth are showing more. I had nowhere to vent that rage and that frustration until we put it into this song. I think a lot of people feel this way. You saw it spill over into riots and protests. There’s all this stuff just pent up inside people. Thankfully, we’re going back out on the road soon, so I’ll have somewhere to put it.”

The forthcoming album is the highly anticipated follow-up to the band’s 2017 album The Stories We Tell Ourselves, which earned them three GRAMMY nominations, including Best Rock Album, and Best Rock Song and Best Rock Recording for the single “Go To War.”

Fans will be able to hear the new music live on the band’s recently announced co-headlining U.S. tour this spring, with Better Noise Music label mates Asking Alexandria, with support from Atreyu and Eva Under Fire . The tour is set to kick off in Kansas City, MO on May 13 and end in Houston, TX on June 19, with other stops planned in Nashville, Denver, Atlanta, New Orleans, and more – see full list of dates below. Tickets, VIP Meet & Greets and additional information are available at: http://nothingmore.net/

JONNY HAWKINS on “TIRED OF WINNING”

  • Q: “TIRED OF WINNING” is a compelling song with lyrics that underline the very precarious position that humankind is in right now: “So will we steer this ship straight through the void/ Or turn on ourselves and die out?” What inspired the song and how it mocks the phrase “winning”?

A: We find ourselves in the same position humanity has found itself over and over again… at the end of a series of self made problems. When we wake up to this, we realize that we are our own worst enemy, yet we focus so much of our energy on externalizing our problems. This song is a bird’s eye view of human nature.

  • Q: Vocally, the performance is stadium-size and intimate all at once, putting across the urgency of the song’s lyrics. What was going through your mind as you sang with this level of intensity? How will you translate this message into your live performance?

A: This may sound a bit lofty, but when I sing this song I feel as if the entire universe is coursing through my veins. I get goosebumps because I feel in line with something I can’t quite describe… like an old familiar spirit shows up.

  • Q: The song ends with the lines: “Are we going to live this life?” How do you feel we as a people got it all wrong–and where do you think we might all be headed?

A: I think we all tend to lose the meaning in life by hyper focusing on it and romanticizing it. It’s a paradox… It’s like trying to grasp water in your hand; the tighter you hold, the less you have. The more weight you put on the “meaning” of your life, the less you feel connected to it. The purpose of life might be as simple as life itself… nothing more, nothing less.

  • Q: Musically, the song is very intense with unique sounds + a jarring rhythm that underline the chaos of this moment we are living in. Can you talk about the recording of the song and how you wanted it to sonically capture the song’s theme?

A: We wanted it to sound like aliens had a baby with a 90’s rock band. That baby grew up, dropped out of college and made our music video.
