Multi-platinum hard rock titans GODSMACK have earned another career highlight. The band’s WHEN LEGENDS RISE album (BMG, February 2018) is newly gold-certified by the RIAA. In addition, two more of the album’s singles (the title track and “Under Your Scars”) have also been officially certified gold by the RIAA. The album’s first single and #1 rock track “Bulletproof” earned a Platinum Digital Single Award in September 2020 and was previously certified Gold in the U.S.

WHEN LEGENDS RISE is the seventh studio album from GODSMACK, who are Sully Erna [vocals, guitar], Tony Rombola [guitar], Robbie Merrill [bass], and Shannon Larkin [drums]. Produced by Erik Ron and Erna, it was the band’s first release in four years and was recorded at their headquarters (GSHQ) in Derry, New Hampshire. The album went on to garner a multitude of career milestones for the group: four #1 rock tracks (an accomplishment that makes GODSMACK one of only four rock acts to achieve this), and a record 11 #1 singles in the band’s career with the album’s fourth single “Unforgettable.” WHEN LEGENDS RISE entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart in the top ten (#8), with four #1 placements on other charts: Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Music Albums, Top Independent Albums and Top Alternative Albums.

“Since we formed the foundation, I’m not sure we’ve even put a dent in what we hope to accomplish,” SULLY says. “But what I can tell you is that my team and I are working tirelessly every day to try and reach as many people as possible with our message of inspiration and hope that there really are better ways to live life and help anyone in need that struggles with mental illness, to give them the tools they need to help them overcome any obstacles they may face with any kind of depression. Getting the people who live with this silent killer to have a voice and change their self-destructive behavior IS the priority. “

Naomi Fabricant, The Scars Foundation Executive Director adds, “The Scars Foundation has been doing so much work helping as many people as possible. We have programs created that we use to help everyone from corporate teams to adolescents. The team also visits addiction treatment facilities, homeless shelters, safe homes for women and children who were victims of abuse, trafficking, and all things in between. We have donated equipment for the elderly in underserved communities to help them stay connected and we have provided scholarships for at risk youth. Additionally, we have spent a lot of time working on developing strong partnerships with other organizations with like-minded missions including the Best Buy, Musicbiz and Gibson Gives to name a few. In summary, since our inception, we have been working hard…and as Sully said, we’ve worked tirelessly to help as many people as possible to overcome, learn to cope with their mental health struggles and improve their lives.”

SULLY continues, “When we established The Scars Foundation, we decided on ‘we are all imperfectly perfect!’ as the takeaway. We want everyone who feels ugly, unwanted, or traumatized in any way to know that these ‘imperfections’ within ourselves are about as normal as the sun rising and setting every day. They’re not unique and they’re not something to hide or be embarrassed about. They ARE your scars, your battle wounds from life. Doesn’t matter if they’re emotional or physical scars, they ARE to be worn as a badge of honor, to remind you of what made you who you are today. EVERYONE has some form of scars that they carry, that made them feel ‘lesser than’ and it should NEVER be something that defeats you. It should make you feel blessed and empowered that you’ve had the opportunity to survive those moments and rise above them. All those ugly and embarrassing imperfections are EXACTLY what makes you perfect!”

“With the strain of the ongoing COVID pandemic, people who are already battling isolation and depression have been forced to isolate, lock down or any other strategy that we are told to do–and of course it’s going to inflate the numbers,” SULLY says. “ That’s why we are here. To give people the tools and resources during these very trying times. For me personally, through the pandemic, I’ve been enjoying my life by spending time with the people who mean the most to me. I’ve been hardcore touring now since 1998, and for the first time in my life I can sit home and just breathe and enjoy the simple things that life offers like family, friends, dinners, and hobbies. Not doing anything sometimes, is doing more than you think for your well-being. This pandemic should be a reminder to all to just tap the brakes occasionally. Life goes by very fast when we’re always jamming up our schedules, but the best things in life really are free!”

Since the album’s release, GODSMACK’s worldwide reach continues to expand. On the live front, the band played 150+ shows worldwide around the release of WHEN LEGENDS RISE. In addition, as of September 1 (2021), WHEN LEGENDS RISE has generated more than 753M streams.

Multi-platinum hard rock titans GODSMACK continue to receive awards and accolades for WHEN LEGENDS RISE (BMG) with the album’s first single and #1 rock track “Bulletproof” receiving a Platinum Digital Single Award as of September 24, 2020.

“Bulletproof” was released February 28, 2018 as the first single from WHEN LEGENDS RISE; the track was previously certified Gold in the U.S. and was also the most-played song at rock radio in 2018. The Thursday, August 6 benefit will stream on his YouTube channel and the Foundation’s Facebook page at 8:00 PM (ET)/5:00 PM (PT) and will feature special sets from GODSMACK special and SULLY solo (accompanied by Chris Lester and Máiréad Nesbitt), plus performances from Aaron Lewis (Staind), Brent & Zach Of Shinedown, Papa Roach, Mike & Adam Of Saint Asonia, Nuno Bettencourt and Clint Lowery (Sevendust).

“I had always looked for ways to give back and help others in some way after reaching certain levels of success in my life,” SULLY ERNA says. “But I could never really figure out where to dedicate my time and attention and what was important to me, or where I even had experience to offer.”

“We all had a good feeling about this song to begin with, it was just a matter of waiting for its turn to become a single,” the band’s front man SULLY ERNA says. “But even a ‘feeling’ doesn’t guarantee you a number one spot on Billboard. So, for this to actually happen and see it in writing is really exciting. We are mostly happy for the kids who participated on this one. They’re the voice of this song, and the true hidden heroes behind it.”

Multi-platinum hard rock titans GODSMACK today (Wednesday, April 8) have released the video for their new hit single “Unforgettable” from their latest smash album WHEN LEGENDS RISE (BMG).

With music programs continuing to be at risk in schools across the country, it was important for the band–Sully Erna [vocals, guitar], Tony Rombola [guitar], Robbie Merrill [bass] and Shannon Larkin [drums]–to make a video about the power of music to uplift lives. They invited 400+ aspiring musicians from all over New England to join them at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH for the shoot.

The “Unforgettable” video (directed by Noah Berlow) culminates a two-year process where the band involved students, starting with the recording of the song when 20 students joined them in the studio to provide vocals on the chorus. These same students were also invited to perform the song live onstage with GODSMACK at their show in Gilford, NH on August 22, 2018 at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion. As music programs continue to be at risk at schools across the country, multi-platinum hard rock titans GODSMACK are looking to support local music students in New Hampshire by involving them in the filming of their latest single “Unforgettable,” from their current album WHEN LEGENDS RISE, with two events later this week. First up, the band’s lead singer and guitarist SULLY ERNA will speak to middle school students on Friday February 14. The following day (Saturday February 15), GODSMACK will invite 300+ students to join the band to take part in a performance of their new single “Unforgettable” at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH.

The Friday February 14 events will begin with a Ted Talk-style presentation by SULLY at the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School in Derry, NH. SULLY will talk about his life–the challenges, blending in, how music saved him–and encouraging the young musicians to continue to pursue their dreams. The assembly will end with the students getting a chance to be a part of filming “Unforgettable.” The day will conclude with the band teaching the track to the students in preparation for the following day’s filming.

On Saturday morning (February 15), the students will travel in school buses to SNHU Arena in Manchester, NH where they’ll be filmed alongside the band–Sully Erna [vocals, guitar], Tony Rombola [guitar], Robbie Merrill [bass] and Shannon Larkin [drums]–for the “Unforgettable” video.

Previously, GODSMACK had orchestrated 20 students from the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School to join them in the studio during the recording of “Unforgettable” and provide vocals on the song’s chorus. These same students were also invited to perform the song live on-stage with GODSMACK at their show in Gilford, NH on August 22, 2018 at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion. GODSMACK—Sully Erna [vocals, guitar], Tony Rombola [guitar], Robbie Merrill [bass] and Shannon Larkin [drums]–have achieved a career first by scoring three #1 singles from the same album.

This week, “Under Your Scars,”the third single from the band’s WHEN LEGENDS RISE (BMG) album, has ascended to #1 on the Active Rock Chart. This marks the group’s third #1 rock hit from their current album. “Under Your Scars” follows the album’s two previous tracks that were #1 active rock hits: “When Legends Rise” and “Bulletproof,” the latter of which was recently certified Gold in the U.S. and was also the most-played song at rock radio in 2018.

“What a proud moment to be able to announce that “Under Your Scars” has officially gone #1 in the country!” says SULLY ERNA. “To have any song reach #1 is such an honor. But to have three in a row on one album is unreal. Feeling blessed!”

The newly released video for the song showcases GODSMACK’s electrifying live performances alongside heartfelt backstage exchanges with the group’s fans over the years. Check out the video for “Under Your Scars,” here.

“I’ve realized that ‘Under Your Scars’ has become such an important song to me for so many reasons,” SULLY says. “It’s the first time Godsmack has decided to put this kind of a ballad on an album–which was pretty ballsy for us. I’m so happy that the fans have embraced it in the way they have, because the meaning behind it is so much bigger than any of us.

“It also reminds me that taking all the credit without acknowledging the people or events that have touched our lives deeply enough to inspire songs like these would just be wrong.

“So humbly I will say, this song came to me shortly after I had spent some quality time with someone who I consider a dear friend, and have grown to admire and respect as one of the smartest and most talented artists today, Stefani Germanotta, who most of you may know as Lady Gaga. In the short amount of time we hung out, she made me realize that we all have these imperfections, these wounds that we carry (whether they’re physical or emotional) that cut so deep they can cripple us.

“These feelings leave us vulnerable, or embarrassed, or even unworthy at times. And our human nature–when they’re exposed–is to shut down, rather than embrace them and realize that not only can we overcome them, but we can also become an inspiration to inspire others to have a voice and find their inner strength to show their scars off loudly and proudly to the world. Our ‘Scars’ are nothing more than our battle wounds from life and they helped mold you into who you are today.

“All of this is what drove us to create ‘The Scars Foundation,’ our new non-profit organization battling everything from severe depression to addiction, bullying, suicide prevention and so on.

“Finding acceptance, that’s what ‘Under Your Scars’ and what ‘The Scars Foundation,’ are about. We’re all imperfect–that’s what makes us perfect!”

GODSMACK have spent more than a year on the road, both in North America and throughout Europe in support of their WHEN LEGENDS RISE album. They just wrapped the European and U.K. dates on their in-progress world tour and are currently headlining a run of North American shows (including a July 23 New York City show at the Beacon Theatre) with special guests New Years Day. Next up is a stretch of festival appearances leading GODSMACK straight into the recently added fall shows with Halestorm supporting. The new dates kick off September 20 in Green Bay, WI and wrap October 18 in Tulsa, OK.
