Modern rock band CRASHING WAYWARD hold nothing back in “Bullet For A Heart,” a track bursting with raging guitars, razor-sharp vocals, and an unflinching worldview that rails against hate and violence. Today (April 22), they’ve released the song’s video, for which they went all-in. At a soundstage in their Las Vegas hometown, they filmed the video with water pouring all over them to illustrate the song’s key lyrics: “Save me/Save yourself/Shower with the bullets full of heart/Lay it down/Lay your weapons down/Shower with the bullets full of heart.” Watch the video HERE, listen to track HERE, and see their tour dates below.

“When the shoot was planned,” says lead singer Peter Summit, “we had spoken of shooting in front of the rain only looking as if we were getting wet, but decided there was no way we were going to phone in this performance. So we all got in the water and delivered a performance that we only know how to do. The rain falling off us illuminated that energy and although it was a very cold night shot two days before our Pacific Northwest tour in February, we took this risk to make sure we captured the song’s true emotion and raw power.” Read a Q&A with Summit and guitarist David Harris below.

The previously released track was rebooted with Harris’ meatier new guitar parts and a sharper mix by producer Shawn McGhee (Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Strung Out, Dark Chapel), with mastering done by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic SoundIt will appear on CRASHING WAYWARD’s forthcoming six-song EP The Fight Within, out in the third quarter of 2026 on Golden Robot Records (exact release date TBA) and promises a kaleidoscopic journey through modern rock’s emotional extremes.

The EP will also include the band’s previous single “Holding For Dear Life,” hailed by the UK’s Classic Rock magazine as a “tight, groovy beefcake of a song… manages to be fiery, introspective and energizing at once– the sort of brooding intensity you can dance to.“ (March 16,2026) The song was picked by readers as “Track of the Week.” Watch the video HERE and listen to the track HERE.

The Fight Within is an electrifying and introspective release that showcases CRASHING WAYWARD—Peter Summit (lead vocals), David Harris (lead guitar), Carl Raether (bass), Tucker Jones (guitar), and Jon Gunder (drums)—at their most confident and compelling. Across the EP the band deliver top-shelf songs that, in their own words, “speak a lot about life as we know it, reflecting outward to inward.”

Q&A ABOUT “BULLET FOR A HEART”
WITH PETER SUMMIT AND DAVID HARRIS

Congrats on this new version of the song. Sonically, can you describe what the band wanted to achieve with this new version?

SUMMIT: We have been very focused on delivering each song from “The Fight Within” EP, that captures the band at its purest and want each song to sound as we went directly from stage to record. This song I was the most excited about being back in the studio with Dave working out all the guitars. He has given a performance that is truly raw emotion with a force. He has always been an advocate for “Less is more” and this song is a testament to that. We have been very fortunate to revisit this song and re-work it in a way that we felt was missed in its original release. It was missing the angst and drive that was intended when Dave, Carl and I wrote it at my house. It was written with the three of us in a room working out its melodies and structure, something we had never done before when writing together. We wanted something that hit hard like “She Builds Quick Machines” by Velvet Revolver. This is how the band performs live and thankfully we have been able to have a second chance with this song and give it the proper release it deserves.

Lyrically, the song is compelling—a very positive statement about people needing to rise above a hateful and violent world. What inspired you to write it? Particularly these lines: “Kill the buzz/Running through your once gifted tongue/Lashing out with all its false beliefs now.”

SUMMIT: I always try to leave the lyrics open to interpretation with some ambiguity, but I felt this was a message that needed to be addressed. Without naming who, I wrote this in response to a very high-profile personality who had been very open and vocal with their hate rhetoric. The last thing we need in this unquestionably polarizing world is more hate. Especially from someone who is in a position of influence to their millions of fans and followers. I was intending for the song to speak about taking action and accountability in how we address and treat each other, no matter your race, religion, gender or sexual preference. Words can be weaponized as we all see it, especially today. I wanted to make the “Bullet” represent something for good like it says in the first line of the song, “Feed the love, with the bullets full of heart.”

The video is mysterious-looking and captivating. Can you describe the video shoot, where it was shot, and how you feel it illuminates the emotional heart of the song?

SUMMIT: We are a band of many influences, which I believe has worked in our favor. When we have an opportunity to pay homage to an artist that has inspired us, I want to pay tribute to that. I have been a huge longtime fan of The Psychedelic Furs and their video for “Heaven” is one of my all-time favorites. They are performing in the rain in the freezing cold and it captured the beauty of the song perfectly. I brought the rain inspired idea to Shane O’Neal at SON Studios here in Las Vegas and told him we wanted a high energy “in your face” version of this. The rain was the perfect symbolic metaphor speaking to the lyrics of the song. “Shower, with the bullets full of heart.” When we were planning the shoot, we had spoken of shooting in front of the rain only looking as if we were getting wet, but decided there was no way we were going to phone in this performance. So we all got in the water and delivered a performance that we only know how to do. The rain falling off us illuminated that energy and although it was a very cold night shot two days before our Pacific Northwest tour in February, we took this risk to make sure we captured the songs true emotion and raw power.

The new version of the song was produced by Shawn McGhee and you. Right away, the guitars are meatier, which definitely increases the song’s thrust, and the mix/master is sharper. Can you talk about that?

HARRIS: I wanted to bring the song closer to what I originally heard in my head when Pete, Carl, and I first wrote it at Peter’s house. It was important to capture more of the band’s natural energy—the kind of rawness we bring to a live setting. We opened up the verses a bit so the track has more space to breathe, which makes the chorus land with greater impact. Shawn did a fantastic job emphasizing those dynamics in the mix, and Pete Lyman, along with his team at Infrasonic Sound, delivered a master that feels both powerful and refined without sacrificing the edge.

How would you describe the band’s musical mission? There are many influences (alternative, hard rock, post-punk, and metal) that are excitingly fused on this song.

HARRIS: At its core, our mission is simply to write great songs. The influences are all there—they’re part of who we are—but they’re never the focus. It always comes back to the song itself. If it’s honest and it connects, then it’s done its job. That’s what gives music longevity.

The video is eye-popping—with the rain effect. What was it like to shoot the video and were there any challenges?

HARRIS: It was a great experience—our first proper night shoot, which added a whole new atmosphere to the performance. Shane and Dee brought a strong creative vision from Pete’s original idea and made the process feel very natural. The only real challenge for me was trying to keep my Gretsch White Falcon from taking too much of a beating in the rain. It’s a special guitar to me, and not one you want to put at risk lightly—but sometimes those elements are exactly what help bring the visual to life.

ABOUT CRASHING WAYWARD

CRASHING WAYWARD came together in 2020 with a shared urgency to create something real. Comprised of members Peter Summit (vocals), David Harris (Guitar), Carl Raether (Bass), Tucker Jones (Guitar) and Jon Gunder (Drums), their debut album, ‘LISTEN!’, blends modern rock with sharp songwriting and a punch of emotion, capturing the tension and release of a world in lockdown. The lead single ‘Breathe’ picked up traction fast, landing on major playlists and modern rock radio across the U.S. and Canada. Produced by Mike Gillies (Metallica, The Cult), the album introduced a band with something to say, and the sound to back it up.

Recently in the studio with producer Shawn McGhee (Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Strung Out, Dark Chapel), CRASHING WAYWARD is sharpening their sound with a heavier, more direct edge. They’re touring nationally, releasing new music consistently, and gearing up for a high-profile first tour of 2026. Backed by a live show that hits with both intensity and connection, the band is building something bigger, loud, raw, and fully in tune with a new wave of modern rock fans.

CRASHING WAYWARD are back with a powerful new chapter. The Las Vegas–based modern rock band today (February 25) have unveiled the video for their new gripping single “Holding For Dear Life” ahead of the track’s release this Friday (February 27) via Golden Robot Records. Watch the video, directed by Jack Banks, HERE and pre-save it now on all major streaming platforms HERE.

Following their critically acclaimed debut album, which earned a 7/10 rating from UK’s Classic Rock magazine and praise for “defying pigeonholing,” CRASHING WAYWARD continue to push their sound forward with music that is both emotionally raw and sonically expansive.

‘Holding For Dear Life’ is a gripping blend of theatrical vocals, hypnotic guitar lines, and dynamic rhythms that surge with urgency and vulnerability. Lyrically, the song explores devotion, obsession, and survival in the modern age— love as faith, desire as religion, and connection as both salvation and danger. Lines like “Holding on to a modern love / Holding on to new religion / I’m saying my prayers tonight” capture the track’s tension between transcendence and self-destruction.

The single, produced by Shawn McGhee (Disturbed, Drowning Pool, Strung Out, Dark Chapel), appears on the band’s forthcoming six-song EP The Fight Within, an electrifying and introspective release that showcases CRASHING WAYWARD at their most confident and compelling. With “Holding For Dear Life,” CRASHING WAYWARD reaffirm their reputation as a band unafraid to go deep, pairing cinematic intensity with heartfelt storytelling.

LISTEN!
Track-by-Track Breakdown by Peter Summit

1. Mouth To God’s Ear
– “Mouth To God’s Ear,” was inspired by just that phrase, “Mouth To God’s Ear,” and when David Harris presented the music to this track, it wrote itself. It’s really an anthem about the ending of hate.”

2. Closer
– “‘Closer’ is really about obsession or an unhealthy relationship, the control that someone has within that relationship and over somebody. So, it really speaks to unhealthy relationships romantically.”

3. Stranger Days
– “‘Stranger Days” really captures self-reflection of love or a life past. It was inspired by the surrealism that love chemically can paint or portray in one’s mind.“

4. Disco Kills
– “‘Disco Kills’ is a political anthem using metaphors of the disco and rock era of the late 70’s. It is not about disco music; it’s more about the abuse of political power.”

5. Shake the Dead Awake
– “‘Shake the Dead Awake’ is about the birth of punk rock and transition into post-punk of 70’s New York City, specifically inspired by CBGB’s.”

6. Tilly
– “‘Tilly’ was written about a close friend who took her own life due to the emotional abuse she suffered from her boyfriend.”

7. Staring at Ceilings
– “‘Staring at Ceilings’ is everything about isolation, especially isolation within the struggles of mental illness.”

8. Death on Holiday
– “‘Death on Holiday’ was the first song that we wrote as a band. It’s about political turmoil and is really about the end of a war. ‘Death On Holiday’ IS sending death on vacation.”

9. Paper Airplane Heart
– “‘Paper Airplane Heart’ is really about personal struggles and making it through another day and in hopes that one sees that everything does get better.”

10. Breathe
– “‘Breathe’ is really about intolerance and inclusion for all. It is to let everybody know that we see you and we hear you.”

11. Velvets Drawn
– “‘Velvets Drawn’ is possibly one of the most personal songs in the entire album. It’s about someone that was very close to the inner circle of the band. It is our way of letting her know that she was always thought of and will always be remembered.”

Coming off the musically powerful and evocative single Breathe, Las Vegas-based modern rock band CRASHING WAYWARD—vocalist Peter Summit, guitarists Stacey David Blades and David Harris, bassist Carl Raether, and drummer Shon McKee—today (May 17) share the music video for their new single “Closer” ahead of its May 19 digital release. Powered by Summit’s striking voice, multiple guitar textures and gripping fast-paced rhythm, the song “speaks to relationships—specifically unhealthy, addictive romantic relationships,” explains Summit. “It focuses on the obsession someone might have and also to the awareness that this might not be the right place for that person.” Watch the video, which captures the band’s onstage dynamism, HERE.

“Closer” is one of many highlights on the band’s debut album LISTEN! that’s due out June 9 on the RFK Media label. The 11-track album was produced by heavy hitter Mike Gillies, whose credits include a long tenure with Metallica as well as studio work with Mötley Crüe and The Cult. Lyrically poetic and musically illuminating, CRASHING WAYWARD paints a landscape that stretches beyond alternative hard rock and explores the diverse influences of each of its band members,

There are four strong songwriters with all different types of influences, so this creates a unique sound,” says Blades. “From a guitar standpoint, David Harris plays a lot in open tunings which gives the riffs a very different vibe along with my mainly Drop D tuning. When you put the guitar parts together, they are very different. Added to that is Carl Raether’s powerful bass lines plus Shon McKee’s fantastic drumming—and with Pete’s distinctive vocals and melody lines, you get Crashing Wayward.”

The band came together in the Spring of 2020, just when the world seemed to come to a halt. In that stillness, the band grew restless, feverishly writing emotionally fueled songs of hope, inclusion, and escape. The music on LISTEN! represents a cathartic release raw in approach yet refined in tone.

Says Summit about the striking album cover, an image of a woman with her mouth shut and masking tape across it: “The album art was taken during the ‘Breathe’ photo session, although the concept of ‘No one will be silenced’ has been used in various high-profile projects such as the ‘NOH8’ silent campaign in 2008, which showed celebrities in protest of the ‘Proposition 8’ banning of same-sex marriage. The intention is to focus on the power in her eyes. ‘See us. Hear us!’ We felt that the title LISTEN! was powerful in portraying both the album’s cover and the lyrics throughout the album. LISTEN! speaks directly to life itself touching on topics of Intolerance, Mental Health, Suicide, Love, Peace, Loss and Political Unrest.”

CRASHING WAYWARD’s official introductory single “Breathe,” was released in December 2022 and achieved international recognition via Apple Music’s “Breaking Hard Rock” and “New in Rock” playlists, YouTube’s “Heavy Gauge” playlist, and a barrage of media interviews and radio play resulting in #1 status on radio stations in the U.S. and Canada.

CRASHING WAYWARD genuinely pour their soul, blood, sweat, tears, and hearts into their songs and live shows. Equally primordial and intellectual, their music embodies the fundamental hypnotic quality of rock music and makes them the band to watch in 2023 and beyond. The album will be available worldwide on CD and all digital/streaming platforms, with the vinyl edition to follow later this summer. Pre-order LISTEN! now at https://rfkmediashop.com/products/crashing-wayward-l-i-s-t-e-n.

The band recently performed a record release show for LISTEN! at the Viper Room in West Hollywood and will next be seen presenting a very special event merging music, art and more at The Industrial in Las Vegas on July 14 at which they will headline (more details TBA).
