THE DADBOD VETERAN

THE DADBOD VETERAN

THE DADBOD VETERAN

Jon Wellington
Biography

The DadBod Veteran (Jon Wellington) is the unapologetic voice of Gen X men everywhere—equal parts sarcastic life coach, porch philosopher, recovering corporate warrior, and professional observer of modern nonsense.

After serving in the U.S. Navy and later spending decades in corporate America, The Dad Bod Veteran transformed his real-life experiences into a wildly successful comedic brand centered around midlife reality, generational nostalgia, parenting, marriage, and the slow betrayal of the human body after 40.

Known for his signature front-porch monologues, deadpan delivery, and brutally funny observations about everything from bad knees and testosterone decline to teenagers, modern culture, and why nobody warned Gen X about becoming their parents, his content has resonated with millions.

As one of the founding forces behind the GenX Takeover, The DadBod Veteran brings sharp storytelling, veteran grit, self-deprecating humor, and the exact energy of the guy at the barbecue who says what everyone else is thinking.

JON WELLINGTON
Q&A
2026

Q:  Can you walk us through the special chemistry you all share and what makes this tour so special?

JON WELLINGTON (JW):  This tour is special because it is completely organic.  None of this was planned–not even by us.  We originally just wanted to hang out together in Nashville and do Creator stuff, but our wives didn’t want to pay for the trip, so they rented out a comedy club and made us perform…the rest is history!  We each come from a different background with different life experiences, which when combined into one show gives the audience a diverse perspective on the GenX Life, our experiences, and what is coming next for us in life!

Q:  Each of you bring a unique perspective with your life observations, which is what makes the shows so compelling.  What is the one subject you cover every night in your set?

(JW):  In my set, I go into detail about the false sense of security that our generation has about being immune to FAFO.  We have survived hose water, sketchy bike ramps, being left alone at a very young age, and we have a false confidence that we are invincible as adults…but we aren’t.  I share the reality of how FAFO changes for us as we get older, and how we aren’t as immune as we thought we are.

Q:  What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?  Also, what’s the one piece of advice you would give to someone entering the next stage of life?

(JW):  An Italian man once told me “It is Notta Bigga Deal” (Italian hand gesture implied), which sounds simple, but in reality has become a mantra for me in life.  Whatever challenge I face, whatever difficult decision I have in life, I always remember that in the grand scheme of things, I will look back at that moment and realize “It was Notta Bigga Deal.”  With that, I can make most decisions or challenges in life pretty simple.

For people moving into the next stage of life?  “Take the Risk.”   I have got where I am in life because I have always Taken the Risk–in jobs, in life, in doing things that people say can’t be done, or that some would consider too risky for someone to take.  The worst thing that can happen isn’t that you will fail, it’s that you will regret taking the chance.

Q:  What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

(JW):  Tiramisu.  I try every Tiramisu that I come in contact with.  Don’t care where, don’t care when…its part guilty pleasure, part hobby to find the best in the world (so far, it’s the Tiramisu at Publix bakery, and trust me, I’ve tried a lot!)

Q:  Who or what has been your biggest inspiration (book, movie, person)?

(JW):  It’s hard to put just one as there have been several people and movies that have inspired me (not a big reader).

But to really put it in focus, my kids are my biggest inspiration.  To be honest they are the reason I started doing social media, and still the people I am happiest to see at a show.  I know that I inspire them as well, as they get to see what they can achieve.  But seeing how proud they are of what I have accomplished really fills my soul and drives me to do more.

Q:  Which famous historical event would you like to have witnessed and why?

(JW):  There are several, but I would say it’s the Fall of the Berlin Wall (I was only a kid when it happened, but would have wanted to see it in person)

Think about it:

  • GenX Defining Moment
  • Massive Cultural Shift
  • Real “holy crap the world just changed over night” energy
  • Basically GenX told the adults “you’re wrong” with the swing of a hammer.

Q:  What do you look forward to most when you return home from the road?

(JW):  Playing video games with my friends.  I have a group of guys across the world that I play video games with whenever I can.  Good time to break away from all the business of the tour and just hang out with the guys (which we stream on Twitch).

Biography

The Miraculous Love Kids is a non-profit 501(c)(3) whose aim is to teach the guitar to war-torn, poverty-stricken children, in particular young girls who have little to no rights and are often forced into marriage and face the most extreme forms of violence. We Concur with legendary Musician Charlie Haden who famously said, “Music in the hands of kids can save the world” and with that, we feel it is the most powerful way to give these kids a voice. Through the guitar, they learn English and about other cultures and countries. They also earn a stipend to support their families, which, in turn, instills in them self worth and hope for a better future.

Musician Lanny Cordola formed the Miraculous Love Kids around the premise that “it shouldn’t hurt to be a child.” That a kid with a melody in their heart has hope, and with hope all things are possible.

Since 2010, Lanny has followed the songline from Karachi to Kabul in his quest to help give a voice to kids living in poverty-stricken areas and war zones. He has collaborated with musicians from Slash, Gilby Clarke, Donovan Leitch, Mark McGrath, Gina Gershon and Sen Dog from Cypress Hill to renowned Pakistani singers Atif Aslam, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Sain Zahoor, Abida Parveen and Sanam Marvi — all with the aim of raising awareness, resources and funds for some of the poorest children in Pakistan and Afghanistan. In his travels, Lanny has had the good fortune to listen, learn, play for, jam with and teach many of these Miraculous Love Kids.

In 2014, Lanny and many of his esteemed musician friends staged PEACE JAM 2014, to aid a family Lanny befriended in Afghanistan “The funds we generated were used to provide for a family in Afghanistan who lost three family members to a suicide bombing including two young sisters Parwana and Khorshid,” Cordola says.

On June 27, 2015, thanks to supporters and American vet Brad Pupello (who was friends with Parwana and Khorshid), Lanny moved the family from a two-room slum in the hills of Kabul to a dignified three-bedroom home in a safe part of the city where Parwana and Korshid’s younger siblings — Behishta, Faisal and Mursal — are now going to a private school.

Funds raised at PEACE JAM 2015 will help sustain the family and others, but it’s an ongoing effort that requires continuous work. Your generous support and donations help with clean water, food, clothes, shelter, medicine, education, school supplies and musical instruments.

As part of Lanny & The MLK’s overall mission to bring the light of music to the underprivileged, Girl with a Guitar is a multi-cultural effort with a focus on girls’ education and womens’ rights by means of the guitar.

In June 2015, Lanny traveled to Kabul, Afghanistan, to inaugurate Girl with a Guitar, meeting many eager participants, and teaching a group of girls who have suffered many hardships and the loss of loved ones due to war and poverty.

Research shows that kids who learn music are healthier, happier and have higher brain function than kids who don’t learn music. In countries like Afghanistan, music has been badly neglected — and for girls in impoverished areas, virtually non-existent.

On his travels, Lanny hopes to introduce guitars to girls who aspire to learn and enhance their lives with the beauty and warmth of music, melody and compassion.
