Phoenix, AZ-based modern rock trio THE BLACK MOODS will reveal the first taste of new music from their forthcoming third studio album due later this year with their new melodic and rhythmic track “HEAVEN.” Out Friday, March 22 across digital platforms, “HEAVEN” was produced by duo Seth Reger (Ava Max, Bruno Mars) and Niko Mansikka-aho (Empire of The Sun, Common Kings) who also co-wrote the song with THE BLACK MOODS in Los Angeles in late 2023. Pre-save “HEAVEN” now at https://orcd.co/heaventbm.

“We wanted to take a different approach to the next record we made,” shares vocalist/guitarist JOSH KENNEDY. “With our last couple of albums, it was just the three of us going in and doing what we do live. ‘HEAVEN’ was the first new track we started working on and we decided that we wanted to take advantage of the studio and add some modern elements, while still keeping the core of our basic rock’n’roll instincts. We aren’t leaving behind what we do as a band, we are taking a step in a new direction, and trying new things. Variety is the spice of life.

THE BLACK MOODS teamed up with longtime collaborator and friend Jim Louvau (Jerry Cantrell, Sebastian Bach, Orianthi) to direct the eye-catching music video for “HEAVEN,” out now. Filmed in various locations throughout downtown Phoenix, the video tells a tale of seduction and betrayal with several twists and turns. Watch it streaming now via YouTube HERE or below.

“The concept of the video for ‘HEAVEN’ really came back to the ‘be careful what you wish for’ kind of idea,” explains KENNEDY. “We wanted it to have the scenario of a situation that you think is going one way, but then takes a completely different turn. I took a pretty good beating in it, which was pure entertainment for the rest of the band and the crew. I also learned that duct tape doesn’t let go that easy…”

THE BLACK MOODS have relentlessly brought their raw, amplified rock & roll to stages across North America having toured with acts including Shinedown, 311, Godsmack, Collective Soul, Jane’s Addiction, The Dead Daisies and Gin Blossoms, along with appearances at rock festivals including Aftershock and KUPD’s UFEST. The trio—rounded out by drummer Chico Diaz and bassist Jordan Hoffman—will next appear on stage opening for ZZ Top in Prescott, AZ on April 24 before embarking on a headlining summer tour across the Midwest including a stop at Brat Fest in Madison, WI. See full dates listed below or at https://www.theblackmoods.com/#tour.

The band recently collaborated with THE DOORS’ guitarist Robby Krieger on a riveting cover of The Doors’ “Roadhouse Blues” which was released in November 2023 and featured guest vocals from rock singer-songwriter Diamante. Previously the band has landed five singles in Billboard’s Top 40 Active Rock radio charts including their hit single “Sunshine,” which peaked at #16.

Galvanizing modern classic rock trio THE BLACK MOODS unveiled an electrifying cover of The Doors’ 1970’s hit “Roadhouse Blues” featuring The Doors’ guitarist Robby Krieger and rock singer-songwriter Diamante last October which “infuse(d) this classic with fresh energy and gusto” (Rock & Blues Muse). “We have a big year ahead,” KENNEDY adds. “We kicked it off with ‘Roadhouse Blues (Extended Version)’ and we have a lot of touring coming up too. We have been writing new material and have a new single coming out soon that we can’t wait for our fans to hear!”

Galvanizing modern classic rock trio THE BLACK MOODS are excited to announce their new single, an electrifying cover of The Doors’ 1970’s hit “Roadhouse Blues,” which features none other than The Doors’ guitarist Robby Krieger himself and rock singer-songwriter Diamante. The track will be available digitally Friday, October 20; pre-save it HERE. Recorded at Krieger’s Los Angeles studio, Love Street Sound, the band recorded the cover with most of the same gear used by The Doors in its original recording, keeping its nostalgic and gritty sound while allowing THE BLACK MOODS to add their modern flair. THE BLACK MOODS—JOSH KENNEDY (vocals, guitar), CHICO DIAZ (drums), and JORDAN HOFFMAN (bass)—have today (October 19) debuted the music video for “Roadhouse Blues (feat. Robby Krieger and Diamante),” which features live footage from the recording session. Watch it streaming below or via YouTube HERE.

“The Doors have meant a lot to us, from our band name to the way we approach playing and songwriting,” shares KENNEDY. “Getting to record this song with Robby 53 years after he recorded it with The Doors is something I can’t describe…just unbelievable. Having Diamante add her incredible vocals on it just took it over the top.”

“Lately, I seem to meet more and more young muscians who are into The Doors,” says KRIEGER. “It was really fun recording ‘Roadhouse Blues’ with The Black Moods.  They seem to connect with 60’s style music.”

“‘Roadhouse Blues’ was the first rock song I ever performed on a stage, so when The Black Moods, whose classic rock vibe I really dig, asked if I wanted to sing on their version alongside THE Robby Krieger, it was an absolute yes from me,” exclaims Diamante. “Recording the song was a very full circle moment and an all-around epic experience.”

THE BLACK MOODS play raw, amplified rock & roll. A classic power trio for the modern world, they turn the genre’s timeless ingredients—electric guitar, anthemic hooks, and percussive punch—into a sound that’s both contemporary and climactic. Based out of Phoenix, AZ, the band have relentlessly toured across North America alongside acts including The Doors’ Robby Krieger, Shinedown, Jane’s Addiction, Whitesnake, Collective Soul, The Dead Daisies and The Gin Blossoms and made festival appearances at Aftershock and Roger Clyne’s Circus Mexicus. The trio released their fourth album INTO THE NIGHT in 2022 via Wit Hustle/The Orchard/Steelhorse Entertainment with Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny “K” Karkazis (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down) which was lauded by Metal Edge Magazine as “raw, riff-heavy, blues-drenched rock delivered with a nod to the classic acts that came before them, but filtered through a youthful, high-energy lens.” It also saw THE BLACK MOODS release their own limited-edition beer, “Hollywood & Lime,” with Phoenix’s Walter Station Brewery as well as a limited-release bourbon “Bad News Bourbon” via Phoenix’s SanTan Brewing Company.

THE BLACK MOODS’ seminal 2020 album SUNSHINE earned the band four Top 30 singles–including their first-ever Top 20 charting hit with title track, “Sunshine,” which peaked at #16 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock radio charts. The band have garnered strong hometown support throughout their career including cover features from Entertainer! Magazine and Phoenix New Times in addition to features and appearances via The Arizona Republic, AZFamily (CBS5) “Good Morning Arizona,” Arizona PBS, and a half-time performance for the Phoenix Suns (NBA) 2022 semi-finals game.

BREWERY’S DOWNTOWN PHOENIX TAPROOM IN REFURBISHED HISTORICAL FIRE STATION

Arizona-based modern classic rock & roll trio THE BLACK MOODS have partnered with downtown Phoenix’s Walter Station Brewery on their collaborative “Hollywood and Lime,” a light blonde ale with hints of cherry and bright lime flavors. Brewed with select malts and hops for a handcrafted flavor profile and just a hint of tartness, “Hollywood and Lime” is perfect for Arizona’s spring season as the temperature start to warm and the days get longer. The beer was named after THE BLACK MOODS’ single “Hollywood,” featured on their 2022 album INTO THE NIGHT. The trio have today (February 21) revealed the official “Hollywood” music video, directed and filmed by videographer and longtime friend Domonick Giorgianni (Domino Effect Productions) It unflinchingly looks at the dark side beneath the glitz and glamour of the star-studded entertainment capital. “We’re excited to announce that we’re partnering up with Jim and Walter Station Brewery to release the first-ever Black Moods beer, ‘Hollywood and Lime,’” says THE BLACK MOODS front man Josh Kennedy. “It will turn all your bad feelings into good feelings!”

“Brewing a beer with and for The Black Moods was an idea I’ve had since the guys played at the brewery while it was still under construction back in 2016,” shares Walter Station Brewery co-owner Jim Erickson. “It was an amazing show and an opportunity to introduce my friends, family and brewing community to the band, which everyone loved and still talk about today.  Having seen The Black Moods a couple of years earlier at a show in Mexico, I quickly became a fan of the music but also the vibe of the band and how they seemed to be really connected to their own community and uber approachable.  It was similar to how I saw, or hoped to see, my brewery would interact with the beer community.  After a couple of idea pitches back and forth between myself and the band, and lots of sampling, we settled on developing an easy-drinking beer that they could enjoy while hanging out with friends, rehearsing or before a show. ‘Hollywood and Lime’ got its name while all of us were sitting at the brewery one evening and discussing their new album which included the single ‘Hollywood,’ and the rest is history.  Sid Rhea, a friend of the band and a talented artist, contributed the artwork and graphics for the can labels.  An excellent label for an excellent beer for an excellent band.”

ABOUT WALTER STATION BREWERY:
Walter Station Brewery is a collaborative effort between Jim Erickson and Kirk Strawn, both of Phoenix AZ.  Jim Erickson is from a background of Sales and Marketing and an avid homebrewer as well as the original brewer for Walter Station.  Kirk Strawn is a former Physician turned entrepreneur and is the face of the burgeoning Walter Productions in the Phoenix Area with several event properties offering music, art and community outreach.  Both Jim and Kirk share a passion for Craft Beer and spawned their relationship while both were members of a brewing club located in Scottsdale AZ.  Walter Station Brewery is best described by their tagline “Local, Community, Craft”, which can be found throughout their marketing and social media messages and adorns all their packaged beer, as the goal of the company is to produce the best beer possible while sticking to their local roots and remaining an engaging member of their neighborhood.  Walter Station produces Ales and Lagers, using traditional methods but with, sometimes, unusual ideas or ingredients.  Staying true to style is important but just as important is to push the boundaries of traditional beer and use both Local and Global ideas to bring new experiences to their fans.

Located in a 1960’s era Phoenix Fire Department Station, the brewery was built by leaving as much of the original building and architecture as possible as it remains one of only three of the original 12 buildings that were built throughout the Phoenix Area.  To this day, Walter Station enjoys a “special relationship” with the Firefighting Community as you will often see past and current members of the Department in the brewery enjoying a beer in their Old Station 29.  Now offering great beers, traditional pub food and live music several nights a week from local bands as well as a welcoming stage for musicians traveling through Arizona.

Prior to the show, THE BLACK MOODS will head out for a weekend of shows across Southern California with Seattle 90’s rockers Candlebox from October 26-28 before vocalist Josh Kennedy heads to fill in for acclaimed rock outfit Gin Blossoms guitarist Jesse Valenzuela at one of their upcoming shows in November. Kennedy grew up in his hometown of Wheaton, MO (population of 502) listening and playing along to Gin Blossoms which led to him meeting vocalist Robin Wilson after attending a show in Springfield, MO. Kennedy then moved to Arizona to pursue his music career where Wilson recruited him to work in the band’s studio and later took out THE BLACK MOODS as openers for Gin Blossoms’ winter 2019 tour. “I have been a fan of Gin Blossoms since I was a kid in the Ozarks,” shares Kennedy. “Their songwriting and sound blew me away and inspired me to write and find my path. I’m beyond grateful!”

Produced by Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny “K” Karkazis (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down), THE BLACK MOODS mix hard-hitting rock with electric blues, strong attitude, and plenty of anthemic choruses on INTO THE NIGHT. It is an album that’s felt as much as heard, rooted in the stomp of Diaz‘s kick drum, the pulse of Hoffman‘s bass, and the larger-than-life presence of frontman Kennedy. Phoenix, AZ-based trio THE BLACK MOODS mix hard-hitting rock with electric blues, strong attitude, and plenty of anthemic choruses on their newly released third studio album INTO THE NIGHT out now via Wit Hustle/The Orchard / Steelhorse Entertainment. Produced by Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny “K” Karkazis (Disturbed, 3 Doors Down), INTO THE NIGHT “blends the most elemental components of rock and roll music into new songs that achieve a nearly-perfect balance of guts, glory, guitar, and big-league hooks,” according to Rock & Blues Muse who further praised the band as “one of the most crucial and exciting American bands working today.”

THE BLACK MOODSJosh Kennedy (vocals, guitar), Chico Diaz (drums) and Jordan Hoffman (bass)—have today (June 9) released a farcical music video for their vibrant and punchy single “Youth Is Wasted On The Young” following its exclusive premiere via MXDWN yesterday. The video was filmed at Combs High School in San Tan Valley, AZ and includes appearances from the school’s principal and student members alongside the band throughout various skits. Watch it streaming below or on YouTube HERE.

Loaded with rebellious lyrics (“You don’t like the like the way I spend my time / You don’t like the way we live our lives / You always let me know it’s on your dime / You act like being young is such a crime”), the song’s message of nonconformity is relatable to all generations.

Sharing how the song developed, Kennedy says, “The guys and I were hanging out in the studio jamming away and this song started crawling out. The hook line came right to me. I could hear it immediately. The first lines I wrote were the last ones in the song, ‘There’s no life where there’s no love, Youth Is Wasted On The Young’…it just flowed. The rest of it came out a few weeks later once everything was shut down due to Covid and reality had time to sink in. We felt like little kids being grounded, not allowed to go out and play, so we wrote it from that perspective.”

When it came to coming up with a video concept for “Youth Is Wasted On The Young,” Kennedy remarks, “We had a couple ideas as to what we wanted for the video. We wound up getting the option to take over a high school for a couple days, so we HAD to go with that. All the locations in one place, it was a no-brainer. A good friend of ours that we met from playing shows in Arizona and Mexico was retiring from his principal gig and asked us if we wanted to take over his school for a couple days. We couldn’t pass that up! Initially we were just gonna shoot some short videos for social media and then play a few songs for the kids, but inspiration struck. We brainstormed for a couple hours and storyboarded it out and it worked. We are huge Foo Fighter fans, to say the least. Their videos are amazing. We are most definitely paying homage to those guys in this video. It’s got a ‘Learn To Fly’ meets ‘Sabotage’ vibe for me. We are also fans of the Naked Gun movies as well as anything Broken Lizard does, so we obviously don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

BAND ANNOUNCE SUMMER TOUR DATES

Phoenix, AZ rock & roll trio THE BLACK MOODS heat things up with a sultry music video for their latest track, “The Cure,” taken from their upcoming June 3 album INTO THE NIGHT via Wit Hustle/The Orchard /Steelhorse Entertainment. “The Cure” is a “sultry slowburner” that highlights the band’s “raw, riff-heavy, blues-drenched rock” style according to Metal Edge Magazine who premiered its video earlier this week. Watch “The Cure” music video–directed by Jim Louvau & Tony Aguilera (Jerry Cantrell, Killer Be Killed)– streaming above or on YouTube HERE in advance of its release across digital platforms this Friday, May 13.

“To me, ‘The Cure’ is the bluesiest song we have,” says vocalist/guitarist Josh Kennedy. “It came together very naturally and has ALL the sex appeal in it. It’s a love song about something being so good, but so bad for you at the same time. She’s Bella Donna.”

THE BLACK MOODS have previously shared three tracks from INTO THE NIGHT: “She Gets Out,” “Hollywood” and their current radio single, the hedonistic anthem “Saturday Night,” which is currently in the Top 50 Billboard rock charts. The album was recorded with Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny “K” Karkazis (3 Doors Down, Disturbed), who the band previously enlisted on their critically acclaimed 2020 sophomore effort SUNSHINE. INTO THE NIGHT is an album that’s felt as much as heard, rooted in the stomp of drummer Chico Diaz‘s kick drum, the pulse of Jordan Hoffman‘s bass, and the larger-than-life presence of Josh Kennedy. “We’re hanging out with the worst of them,
we make the bad look good.
After parties where you can’t invite your friends,
yea, this is Hollywood.”

Blazing rock trio THE BLACK MOODS warm up listeners with another new track, “Hollywood,” taken from their upcoming June 3 album INTO THE NIGHT via Wit Hustle/The Orchard/Steelhorse Entertainment. Streaming now across all digital platforms, “Hollywood” unflinchingly looks at the dark side beneath the glitz and glamour of the star-studded entertainment capital. Listen here: https://orcd.co/tbmhollywood.

For INTO THE NIGHT, the Phoenix, AZ band–Josh Kennedy (vocals, guitar), Chico Diaz (drums) and Jordan Hoffman (bass)–reenlisted Grammy Award-nominated producer Johnny “K” Karkazis (3 Doors Down, Disturbed), who also worked with the trio on their critically acclaimed 2020 sophomore effort SUNSHINE, which produced the Top 20 rock track “Sunshine.” Unable to tour when the pandemic hit, the band packed up their studio and headed East to the Ozarks and set up a makeshift studio in their label owner’s home. At first, our plan was to record some songs in his basement,” shares Kennedy. “…but we wound up taking over the entire house from June to October (2020).”

Recording a full album inside a private residence required the band to get creative–drums were tracked in the wide-open living room, guitar amps were placed inside the walk-in closets and so on. THE BLACK MOODS spent the summer immersed in the most dynamic and diverse project of their career, mixing hard-hitting rock & roll with electric blues, punky attitude, and plenty of anthemic choruses. For Kennedy, who’d grown up just a short drive away, he’d come full circle returning to the Ozarks, the place where he’d first fallen in love with music. Citing influence from the classic sounds of Cream, Jimi Hendrix, and Creedence Clearwater Revival and even ’90s mainstays like Counting Crowes and Better Than Ezra, INTO THE NIGHT marked another chance to blend his influences from the past into a sound for the present.

INTO THE NIGHT’s 12 tracks were every bit as inspired as the recording sessions that produced them. “Saturday Night” paid tribute to the wild, celebratory thrill of the weekend, which the band portrayed in the rousing music video seen HERE, while “She Gets Out” (released November 2021) showcased a softer side of the band, with jangling acoustic guitars and tight vocal harmonies giving way to a singalong refrain. INTO THE NIGHT is an album that’s felt as much as heard, rooted in the stomp of drummer Chico Diaz‘s kick drum, the pulse of Jordan Hoffman‘s bass, and the larger-than-life presence of Josh Kennedy.
