With her new solo album SECOND CHANCES coming out this Friday, August 11 via Blackbird Record Label, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer ABBY POSNER provides an anthem for all of the “outsiders” with her single “The Starting Line.” The music video for “The Starting Line” was exclusively premiered yesterday (August 8) via The Bluegrass Situation. ABBY has shared the clip publicly today (August 9) via her YouTube channel HERE and it can also be seen streaming below. The video presents “The Starting Line” in a stripped-down live setting filmed with Los Angeles’ serene Temescal Canyon in the background. ABBY performs vocals/ banjo and is accompanied by Paula Fong on backing vocals/guitar and Phil Glenn on fiddle/backing vocals.

“I really wanted to do a stripped-down live version of this song, because I didn’t want it to be perfect or overproduced,” shares ABBY. “The rawness is an important part of the song’s overall message.   I have spent a lot of time in Temescal Canyon meditating, hiking and unplugging from the sometimes-chaotic hustle and bustle of LA!  This is a place where I have always been able to self-reflect and see things more clearly.”

Reflecting on the message behind “The Starting Line,” ABBY, who identifies as queer (they/she), says: “I hope that other artists, queer people, and non-conforming/unconventional folks will be able to hear this song as an anthem for being able to let their freak flag fly and be proud of marching to the beat of their own drum.”

“I have always been torn between being an artist and having a family, and a part of this song is about working through some of these complicated feelings. ’The Starting Line’ is also about feeling like an outsider, and ‘falling behind’–it is a journey toward cultivating a new relationship and new perspective with that part of myself.”

ABBY will celebrate the release of SECOND CHANCES on Saturday, August 19 with a sold-out headlining show in Santa Monica, CA at McCabe’s. She will then be seen performing as an official showcase artist at AMERICANAFEST 2023 in Nashville, TN on September 21 at 7:00 PM at The Vinyl Lab along with a performance the following night, September 22, at The California Country Show AMERICANAFEST Special Event at ACME Feed & Seed which takes place from noon – 7:00 PM.

SECOND CHANCES was produced, mixed and wrote by ABBY who also performed guitar, bass, drum, keys, banjo, mandolin, percussion and vocals for all 12 tracks at Sonic Boom Room Studios in Venice, CA with engineer Kevin Jarvis. Inspired by a life-changing breakup and the introspective soul-searching that followed, SECOND CHANCES embraces her genre-fluid blend of Americana, folk, indie pop and punk rock. The album’s debut track, “Simple Life,”was premiered via Glide Magazine who noted, “Channeling the majestic folk of 70s’ singer-songwriters with a modern Americana edge…Abby Posner certainly has a way with words, images, and echoing a sepia-toned light with her tunes that evoke the forthright sounds of Aimee Mann, Lydia Loveless and Lucinda Williams.” Her second single, “Quiet On Sunset,” was featured as one of CMT’s weekly music videos and was premiered via Guitar Girl Magazine.

ABBY has held several early-career milestones including being featured on prime-time television on the hit series “Glee”; creating film scores for award-winning projects including the STARZ documentary “Lady Buds”; sharing the stage with acts including Sierra Hull, Dave Alvin, and iconic lesbian folksinger Phranc; and having her songs be used by Hulu, Netflix, Freeform and “This American Life.”

“I know you wanna go down, down a different road
Where no one will reject you
For loving who you choose
You got wings to leave this town
And sing your song out loud”
“World Is Yours,” 2023 (co-written by Mitch Schneider and Abby Posner)

Queer singer-songwriter-producer Abby Posner, Blackbird Record Label and the Schneider Rondan Organization (SRO PR) have aligned with The Trevor Project in connection with Abby’s recently released song “World Is Yours” whose themes of personal freedom, acceptance and resilience are in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Along with a financial contribution, digital proceeds from the uplifting Americana song, written by Posner and Mitch Schneider, will go to The Trevor Project, the leading suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ young people. Posner is also now training to become a Trevor Counselor. Listen to the song HERE and watch the animated video, created by Jessamine Sison, HERE.

“Many LGBTQ young people turn to music as a source of comfort, joy, and support—and it is wonderful that young people all over will be able to hear a powerful song of acceptance and affirmation in ‘World Is Yours,” says The Trevor Project. “We are incredibly excited to partner with Abby and her team to help spread the word of this anthem to those who could benefit from it.”

Says Abby, the genre-fluid Los Angeles-based artist: “When I first heard the song ‘World Is Yours,’ I was immediately drawn to it, and I wanted to produce/record my own version of it. As a queer songwriter, I believe the world needs more LGBTQ songs that encourage young people to be themselves and lean into their authenticity and strength.  She adds: “I recently started training to become a Trevor Counselor, and so far it has been one of the most eye-opening, and rewarding, experiences.  I hope to continue giving back to the LGBTQ community with my music and working with The Trevor Project.”

“We are honored to support the work The Trevor Project is doing to end suicide among the LGBTQ youth community,” says Manda Mosher, artist and co-owner of Blackbird Record Label. “Creating an environment of love, encouragement and support is vital. We are grateful that “World Is Yours,” an inspired collaboration by Abby Posner and Mitch Schneider, is connecting to empower and uplift through both the song’s message and support of donation to The Trevor Project.”

Video creator Jessamine Sison explains that, while working on the imagery for this video, “I wanted to stay true to its Americana/country sound by depicting small towns and vast horizons. I also wanted to honor the important message in the lyrics to help spread that message to a wider audience. I felt the imagery had to be relevant, timely, and heartfelt. The last building façade in the first part of the video is the historic Stonewall Inn bar.”

About The Trevor Project

The Trevor Project is the leading suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning (LGBTQ) young people. Every year, more than 1.8 million LGBTQ young people seriously consider suicide in the U.S. alone—and Trevor is on a mission to provide every single one of them with the support that they need as we work to end suicide among LGBTQ youth. Trevor provides free, confidential crisis counseling available 24/7 on the platforms where young people already spend their time: phone, chat, and text. We also run TrevorSpace, an international safe-space social networking site, and work to prevent suicide through education, research, and advocacy. Our services holistically support LGBTQ young people today while shaping a more inclusive tomorrow.

About Abby Posner

Years before creating Americana records that shrink the distance between genres, ABBY POSNER grew up in a small mountain town outside of Denver. By 10 years old, she was making her own recordings on an 8-track cassette recorder, playing all the instruments—including piano, guitar, bass, and drums—herself. Meanwhile, her father introduced her to classic records by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and iconic blues artists. POSNER also became a devoted fan of punk music, moshing in the pit during gigs by bands like Alkaline Trio. Music wasn’t just a hobby; it was a lifeline. “Music has always helped me cope with the difficulties of life,” says POSNER, who’s spent the past two decades in Los Angeles. “I’m queer and I came out at a very young age. Music was the glue that held me together through all of that. It helped me process my feelings about being different.” She shines a light on the full spread of her creative abilities with Second Chances, her upcoming album (August 2023, Blackbird Record Label) that uses modern American roots music as a springboard for a bigger, bolder sound. Influenced by everything from punk/rock to electronic music, Second Chances is every bit as diverse as the artist who made it. Coming on the heels of 2021’s critically acclaimed Kisbee Ring, Second Chances marks the newest chapter in a life story that’s still being written. Flip back a few pages and you’ll find a number of early-career milestones: the episodes of “Glee”that found Posner on prime-time television, playing guitar and banjo; the film scores she created for award-winning projects like the Starz documentary Lady Buds;the shows she shared with headliners like Sierra Hull, Dave Alvin, and iconic lesbian folksinger Phranc; the hundreds of songs she wrote, several of which were used by Hulu, Netflix, Freeform, and “This American Life.”

ABBY POSNER showcases her jack-of-all-trades skillset as a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer with her newly released single, “Quiet On Sunset,” taken from her upcoming sophomore solo album SECOND CHANCES due August 11 via Blackbird Record Label. Available now across all digital platforms HERE, the music video for “Quiet on Sunset”—filmed on Sunset Blvd in Los Angeles, CA–was exclusively premiered via Guitar Girl Magazine last Wednesday and is currently featured on CMT as one of their weekly highlighted music videos. Read more about the making of “Quiet On Sunset” in a Q&A with ABBY below. Stream the video for “Quiet On Sunset” below or via YouTube HERE.

“I wanted to create an electronic/folk song with lots of dark synths and basses blasting at the end,” says ABBY. “The organic elements I tracked with was the banjo and the marching drum…I love playing with texture when I produce, and I think there is something interesting in there about the two drastically different genres blending together–the duality of wants and needs within a relationship clashing.”

SECOND CHANCES marks ABBY’s debut release on Blackbird Record Label. ABBY produced, mixed, wrote and performed guitar, bass, drum, keys, banjo, mandolin, percussion and vocals for all 12 tracks at Sonic Boom Room Studios in Venice, CA with engineer Kevin Jarvis. Inspired by a life-changing breakup and the introspective soul-searching that followed, SECOND CHANCES embraces her genre-fluid blend of Americana, folk, indie pop and punk rock. The album’s debut track, “Simple Life,” (released June 7) was premiered via Glide Magazine who noted, “Channeling the majestic folk of 70s’ singer-songwriters with a modern Americana edge…Abby Posner certainly has a way with words, images, and echoing a sepia-toned light with her tunes that evoke the forthright sounds of Aimee Mann, Lydia Loveless and Lucinda Williams.”

ABBY, who identifies as queer (they/she), recently hosted Los Angeles’ Hotel Café’s first-ever Pride Festival event in June and will celebrate the release of SECOND CHANCES on Saturday, August 19 with a special headlining show in Santa Monica, CA at McCabe’s. Tickets are on sale now HERE. ABBY is also excited to announce she will be performing as an official showcase artist at AMERICANAFEST 2023 in Nashville, TN on September 21 at 7:00 PM at The Vinyl Lab. She will appear the following night, September 22, at The California Country Show AMERICANAFEST Specia Event at ACME Feed & Seed which takes place from noon – 7:00 PM.

Abby Posner “Quiet On Sunset” Q&A

–“Quiet On Sunset” is about romantic abandonment and the challenge of moving on when one is unwanted. Can you give us some background about the song? It is based on something you’ve gone through?

“Quiet on Sunset” was written after I went to my friend’s birthday party in a neighborhood that my ex-partner lived in. A neighborhood where we created a lot of memories together. I stepped outside and Sunset Blvd was so quiet for a moment. It felt like the world stopped, and I wanted to go by and see her, but I knew that our relationship wasn’t in a place where I could just show up at her door, so I went home to write this song instead.”

–It’s interesting that “Quiet On Sunset” is a gently strummed and softly sung lover’s plea, and that the final third of the song musically takes an upbeat turn, perhaps suggesting that you’re getting closer to the idea of moving past a fractured relationship—you’re also seen confidently smiling at this point in the video. As the album’s producer, can you talk about your production choices to accentuate the song’s sentiments?

“I think most importantly, I wanted the song-form to feel a little bit herky jerky on purpose, because that was an aspect of the relationship. There were a lot of push/pulls and ups and downs. I wanted to mirror that in the song structure. It is one of the only songs I have ever written where the chorus occurs once throughout the entire piece. The ending is the explosion. It was me letting out my frustration and anger that we could never get back to where we were. I wanted to create an electronic/folk song with lots of dark synths and basses blasting at the end. The organic elements I tracked with was the banjo and the marching drum…I love playing with texture when I produce, and I think there is something interesting in there about the two drastically different genres blending together–the duality of wants and needs within a relationship clashing.”

The “Quiet On Sunset” video shows you walking down one of the most famous streets in America, playing the song’s various instruments (acoustic guitar, bass guitar, banjo, snare drum, rhythm machine) which highlights your multi-instrumentalist skills. Can you talk the video’s concept and the stretch of Sunset Blvd where it was shot?

“I originally wanted to shoot this video in the exact neighborhood, but I didn’t want to take the risk of running into her–haha! So we changed location at the last minute and shot about 7 miles away in Los Feliz…still on Sunset Blvd, just not at the scene of the crime.”

–During the shooting of the video on the streets, did any unexpected things happen?

“If you watch at the very end of the video there are two women that run out of a store…I think it was on purpose, so they could be on camera. The funny thing was that they seemed really embarrassed after making that decision. it is hard to miss that shot, and it is actually one of my favorite moments of the music video.”

–The Second Chances bio says the album was “inspired by a life-changing breakup and the introspective soul-searching that followed.” What advice might you have for others who find themselves in a painful, angry place when a romance deteriorates?

“My advice is to feel all of the feelings. Do not avoid or push them away! Feel them deeply, feel the anger, feel the grief and sadness…you will be able to move on in a much healthier way. Repressing and rebounding too quickly never ends well. I am so grateful that I have my music to help me sort through all of the emotions. Everything becomes much clearer after I write a song, and I hope that others can use art and creativity in the same way.”

Multi-talented singer-songwriter, composer and producer ABBY POSNER embraces her genre-fluid blend of Americana, folk, indie pop and punk rock and frames it with her very own introspective “queer love story” on her upcoming second solo album SECOND CHANCES. Due out August 11, the self-written, recorded and produced album will mark the Los Angeles-based artist’s first release via Blackbird Record Label. It was inspired by a major breakup and relays themes of resilience, patience, acceptance, self-awareness, and rebuilding.

Today, June 7, ABBY has shared an in-studio performance video, recorded live and in one take, for the debut single “Simple Life” in advance of its digital release this Friday, June 9. Filmed at Sonic Boom Studios in Venice, CA during the album’s recording session with her live band, “Simple Life” takes the listener to a relaxed state of mind and allows them to be reminded of the simple things in life. As Glide Magazine noted, “Channeling the majestic folk of 70s’ singer-songwriters with a modern Americana edge…Abby Posner certainly has a way with words, images, and echoing a sepia-toned light with her tunes that evoke the forthright sounds of Aimee Mann, Lydia Loveless and Lucinda Williams.”

“We live in such a chaotic world right now, politically and socially, I believe that it is important to have art and music that can bring us back to earth…that can ground us in these unpredictable times,” says ABBY. “‘Simple Life’ is that song for me.  Every time I play it, I am immediately transported to a different environment.  Almost like a meditation.”

“We live in a material-focused, capitalist society…every man for himself,” she continues. “I thought, what would it be like to write a song about letting go? Letting go of material items and focusing on planting seeds, growing love, and leaning into a higher power. Simply surrendering.”

Watch the video for “Simple Life” streaming below or directly via YouTube HERE. Stream/download the single across digital platforms HERE.

ABBY, who identifies as queer (they/she), will be celebrating LGBTQ Pride Month by hosting Los Angeles’ Hotel Café’s first-ever Pride Festival event on Saturday, June 1. All tickets sold will be donated to Campaign for Southern Equaliity, a non-profit organization working to address the intersections of race, class and gender in the lives of LGBTQ+ Southerners. The event will feature a headlining set by ABBY in addition to performances from Raya Yarbough, Praise Kink, Joseph Eid and Jessica Childress. Tickets are on sale now HERE.

This is the first-ever Pride Festival at the famous Hotel Cafe in Hollywood CA,” exclaims ABBY. “I’ve been playing on this stage for over 12 years, and I have never seen an official Pride celebration held here. There are so many talented queer performers in Los Angeles–I wanted to highlight them at this iconic venue during Pride month. The tickets purchased at the door will go directly to Southern Equality. After being on tour in the South for the past month, I can’t think of a better organization to donate to. I feel extremely safe in Los Angeles being a queer person. Everyday LGBTQ people are fighting for their rights all over the South. This organization works hard to keep LGBTQ protected and safe.”

ABBY is also excited to announce she will be performing as an official showcase artist at AMERICANAFEST 2023 this September in Nashville, TN.

“World Is Yours,” 2023 (co-written by Mitch Schneider and Abby Posner)

ABBY POSNER, the genre-fluid Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, film composer, and producer, has today (May 16) shared the video for the uplifting Americana song “World Is Yours” ahead of its digital release this Friday, May 19 on Blackbird Record Label in honor of Pride Month 2023 (June). The animated lyric video reflects the song’s compelling themes of personal freedom, acceptance and resilience in support of the LGBTQ+ community. Watch the video, created by art director Jessamine Sison, HERE. Pre-save the song HERE.

“When I first heard ‘World Is Yours’ as a queer musician, I was immediately pulled in—it was such an honor working on this track,” says POSNER, who collaborated on the song with publicist and songwriter Mitchell Schneider. “Rearranging and producing it was truly transformative. It felt like I was a young queer kid all over again finding my way in the world and searching for acceptance. The truth is there couldn’t be a better time for this song, with all the anti-trans and homophobic rhetoric being preached by politicians. Queer youth need this song!”

“The digital proceeds from ‘World Is Yours’ are being donated to LGBTQ+ organizations,” says Manda Mosher, artist and co-owner of Blackbird Record Label. “I was incredibly honored when Mitch [Schneider] shared with me his idea of releasing ‘World Is Yours’ for Pride Month. When I heard Abby’s honest and beautiful vocal delivery, I knew the right song had met the right artist. Adding in Jessamine’s poignant visuals that beautifully support and detail a world changing for the better with each step of bravery and acceptance…this project became fully realized and is full of love.  In ‘World Is Yours,’ love wins.”

Video creator Jessamine Sison says: “While working on the imagery for this video, I wanted to stay true to its Americana/country sound by depicting small towns and vast horizons. I also wanted to honor the important message in the lyrics to help spread that message to a wider audience. I felt the imagery had to be relevant, timely, and heartfelt.
