Today, December 1, MICKEY THOMAS of STARSHIP has released “A Classic Christmas,” a two-sided single (available digitally only, via Symphonic Distribution) on which he distinctively lights up such holiday gems as “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” with his deeply soulful and soaring voice.

Listen to “A Classic Christmas” HERE.

Having recorded only one Christmas song before—a bluesy/gospel version of “Silent Night” with the Elvin Bishop Band in 1976—MICKEY says, “I love traditional Christmas songs because most of them were written by fantastic old school writers. They all have a terrific sense for melody and usually have very creative rhyme schemes.”

Both songs were produced, mixed, and engineered by Dan Frizsell and recorded in East Iris Studios in Nashville with John Willis (guitars), David Dorn (keys), Mark Hill (bass), and Evan Hutchings (Drums). “The recording session was a fantastic experience and worked like a charm,” says MICKEY. “Dan Frizsell assembled an incredible group of players—some of the best studio musicians in Nashville. They were not only musical virtuosos but also funny as hell. I love the experience of walking into a studio and diving into the process with people you’ve never met or worked with. The chemistry was spot on from the get-go and we all had a blast recording the songs.”

About Mickey Thomas and STARSHIP:

Mickey Thomas is the owner of the soaring voice that propelled STARSHIP through the decade of the 80’s. With his soulful and compelling vocals, Mickey has established himself as one of Rock Music’s most recognizable stars.

Mickey made his mark in 1976 as lead vocalist on the mega-hit “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” with The Elvin Bishop Band. In 1979, Mickey joined Jefferson Starship as the lead vocalist, after the departure of Grace Slick and Marty Balin, and recorded a string of hits including “Jane”, “No Way Out”, “Find Your Way Back”, “Stranger”, and “Layin’ It on the Line”.

The group was renamed STARSHIP in 1985 and went on to record three #1 hit songs including “We Built This City”, “Sara”, and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”, from the film, Mannequin, which also was an Academy Award nominee. Their hit “It’s Not Over ‘Til It’s Over” became Major League Baseball’s theme in 1987. Mickey’s stellar voice and video charisma on STARSHIP’s video classics such as “We Built This City” and “Sara” became staples on MTV and VH1.

ABOUT JOSH ROSS

Echoing the primary themes of country in his pop-rock-infused way, Josh Ross’s take on love, work, and play is often documented through his whirlwind experiences. From moving to Nashville, the night of a tornado, leaving only a month later when a global pandemic arrived, to developing an ever-evolving career amidst the drawbacks of injuries, lockdowns, and conflicting relationships, Josh Ross is a country artist bound by the act of forging past and overcoming restraints.

“There is something to be said about when your heart is really in the right place to sing something… As an artist, I want the listener and me to go back to a song and remember our exact experiences around it, to encourage connection in all forms,” Josh said. The need for that musical connection began growing up in Burlington, Ontario’s suburbia. Overhearing his parents sing along to Guns N Roses and Bruce Springsteen in their kitchen while he ran around the house pretending to play guitar. Learning in those early years what music was, he found himself writing words in his notebook that, at the time, he didn’t realize were poems and lyrics. Onwards through school, he focused on sports like motocross and football, eventually encountering the injuries that came with each game.

Following several football-related injuries at Ontario’s Western University, the isolation that came from the injuries allowed Josh some time to develop his relationship with music. Taking nearly empty shuttle buses to get to school due to the cast on his leg, learning how to play guitar in his dorm, and on a few noise-complaint occasions bringing two speakers and a subwoofer into the bathroom to belt songs, Josh eventually made the shift of not just listening to music but making his own.

“I had a lot of catching up to do,” Josh said on his first few years immersing himself in the music industry. From practicing in his dorm to playing his first live show at the Boots & Hearts Emerging Artist Showcase in front of 5,000 people, Josh stated that “I used to throw up before the football games because of the anxiety, which is probably why I threw up before that show.” While the pressure to succeed in his sports days poured over into his music career, the drive to achieve inspired him to connect with various songwriters and musicians, eventually leading him to Nashville. In conflict with choosing a stable job post-university or setting his sights on the music industry, Josh Ross’s passions, and talent, pushed him to the path of Nashville, where he further began developing his sound and artistry. From 2019 onwards, Josh Ross dove head-first into his music career as an artist with sonic elements in his music, nodding to raw country, soft rock, and hints of 80s pop-rock.

ABOUT JOE PETERS

Joe Peters was born in the Country Music Capital of the West, Bakersfield, California. In his youth and early 20s, Joe could be found competing in rodeos, team roping, as well as working on the family ranch, playing his guitar, and singing. At age 8 he received his first guitar and started playing along to some of his favorite artists, including Waylon Jennings, George strait and Merle Haggard. That same year, Joe competed in and won his first rodeo. As Joe grew in stature to 6’5” in his teenage years, he switched his focus from riding rough stock to team roping. During this time Joe began to further hone his craft of singing, playing the guitar and songwriting, playing for anyone who would listen on the rodeo grounds after competitions. Joe was finding success roping regionally, traveling across the West, until a catastrophic accident, when his horse rolled over on him while preparing for competition.

With a long recovery ahead, Joe dug deeper into his music. After writing his first song, he recorded it at American Sound Recording Studio, which has now become the Bakersfield Music Hall of Fame. Also, during that time, Joe found a new friend, Justin Pensinger, a fellow roper. Pensinger got Joe back in the saddle and helped him through his recovery and regain his skills, until eventually they became best friends, as well as team roping partners, and soon they were back out on the road. In 2013, the pair qualified for the American Cowboy Team Roping Association (ACTRA) National Finals. As the two were traveling all around the region, Joe would find every open mic night he could along the way. Joe said in a recent interview “The music bug had really gotten under my skin at that point, and that’s all I wanted to do was play, sing, travel and rope!” Then, out of nowhere, another tragedy struck that brought everything to an abrupt ending when Joe’s best friend and roping partner died in an accident in 2015. Joe sold his horse and walked away from everything he had loved and began working the family business.

ABOUT ALEXANDRA KAY

Alexandra Kay kindles a profound connection with listeners through her heartfelt melodies, evocative storytelling, and beautifully captivating voice. Born and raised in Waterloo, Illinois, Alexandra found her voice as a teen, using songwriting as a vessel for self-expression and self-discovery while living in a small Midwest town.

After two failed major record deals, and a starring role in a Netflix Original series, Alexandra took it upon herself to build the music career she envisioned. She hasn’t looked back since. Since then, she’s been cementing her status as an independent force in the industry by sharing her music and life online, amassing over 6+ million followers on social media which has led to over 100+ million streams between Apple and Spotify alone.

Alexandra has graced the stage and collaborated with industry titans like Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina, Randy Travis, Tracy Lawrence, Gary LeVox, and Scott Stapp.

ABOUT RANDALL KING’S TONK VEGAS FEATURING RANDALL KING, CLINT DANIELS, KYLIE FREY, WYNN WILLIAMS, MAE ESTES, AND JAKE JACOBSON

Randall King – One of country music’s new crop of modern traditionalists, Warner Music Nashville artist Randall King grew up on the endless plains of West Texas – and his sound is steeped in their timeless beauty, both gritty and graceful at the same time. He grew up singing in the back of a ‘93 Chevy Suburban, mimicking the pure-country vocals of stars like Keith Whitley, George Strait, Alan Jackson, and John Anderson and over the years became drawn to the electrifying energy of modern stars like Eric Church, Dierks Bentley and Jason Aldean.

Clint Daniels – Daniels has co-written songs for dozens of country artists including the hit “Brokenheartsville” by Joe Nichols, “Ready For The End Of The World” by George Strait and “Roll With Me” by Montgomery Gentry, as well as Brooks & Dunn’s 2008 “God Must Be Busy” and Easton Corbin’s single, “I Can’t Love You Back,“ and Eric Church’s “Some Of It.”

Kylie Frey – Born and raised as country as it gets, Frey is a third-generation rodeo girl and Louisiana state goat-tying champion – and a rising star as genuine as her Wranglers. Sincere in her convictions and too real to dismiss, even for ardent country haters, her sound both typifies and transcends the genre.

Wynn Williams –
Country music is more than just a cowboy hat and boots. It’s standing by your word, honoring a handshake, and working hard. Country music is not about where you’re from or what you wear; it’s about how you live, and Wynn Williams lives country music. This former rodeo cowboy is the kind of entertainer that puts his fans and his show first – always engaging with his audience before, during and after he’s on the stage. His contagious smile and well-known, genuine kindness are only a few of the many things that put Wynn in the arena with those legendary artists that carry around the mantra of having “the whole package.”

Mae Estes – In 1999, 7-year-old Mae Estes walked into the middle of a southwest Arkansas rodeo show arena with a cordless microphone and sang the national anthem a cappella for the first time, claiming she could do it better than the LeAnn Rimes recorded version the venue typically played. Mae went on to perform at every rodeo she competed in, as well as other sporting events, nearby hayrides, and opries.

Jake Jacobson – Jake Jacobson is a 25-year-old “throwback kid” from the mountains. Country music has been in his blood since the beginning. Watching his dad’s honkytonk band in the late 90’s and early 2000’s inspired a career in music for Jake.

ABOUT JEREMY MCCOMB

Good things come to those who wait, but luck favors the bold. And for Jeremy McComb, the balance comes naturally. A storyteller epitomizing “been there and done that,” McComb has explored nearly every facet of the entertainment industry, all on his own terms. From radio to tour managing, releasing five albums, growing an international fan base, hitting the Billboard charts, and writing songs for projects selling over 6 million copies … including a Grammy-nominated soundtrack (Blue Collar Comedy Tour – One for the Road).

Proudly and fiercely independent in both spirit and style, Jeremy was born in Idaho as a sixth-generation musician. Music is in McComb’s DNA but he’s a distinct branch on the family tree. Obsessed with artists who share a gift for storytelling (and little else), he found inspiration in everything from Jim Croce to Tom Petty, and now bridges the canyons between country, rock, and folk. McComb discovered a revelation during the last eighteen months of uncertainty and the effects of it became an influence for the songwriter. Like the rest of us, the constant state of chaos and complications led him to look back to a time when things were simpler. Which led to his latest project, aptly titled, The Way Back. For a performer used to touring 140+ days a year in perpetual motion, The past few years were a challenge. But he rose to that challenge, finding solace in the silence and assembling an album in the process that perfectly captures the angst, frustration, and the joyous release we all felt returning to normal life, our loved ones, and the things that bring us happiness.

ABOUT CODY HIBBARD

Good luck keeping up with Cody Hibbard. The Adair, Oklahoma native grew up running and working on the family farm with dreams that spread across the horizon.

Music was always a love for Cody but wouldn’t be the passion until well after high school. Cody attended the United States Naval Academy where injuries would bring him to a different part of his life, Pipelining. Working consistently and constantly running the roads brought new light to the small-town kid, which would lead him to picking up a guitar around the campgrounds and start finding the love to sing around his fellow blue-collar workers.

MICKEY THOMAS To Release “A Classic Christmas” Digital Two-Sided Single 12/1

MICKEY THOMAS

“A CLASSIC CHRISTMAS”
DIGITAL TWO-SIDED SINGLE
ON DECEMBER 1
FEATURING
“HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS” AND
“IT’S THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR”

PRE-SAVE “A CLASSIC CHRISTMAS” HERE

“A Classic Christmas” Cover Art

“I think most of us have happy memories of Christmas and other holidays. Hearing holiday songs that are ingrained in your memory can engage your mind in a way that creates a roadblock for thoughts that cause us pain and stress. Holiday songs and music in general can provide a respite from the turmoil in the world. I believe that music, more than anything, can help us find a common denominator amid all the polarization that poisons our minds and souls. So with that in mind, I want to wish everyone happy holidays!”
MICKEY THOMAS, 2023

MICKEY THOMAS of STARSHIP is one of rock’s most recognizable vocalists. His deeply soulful and soaring voice has powered an array of massive hits, starting with “Fooled Around And Fell In Love” with The Elvin Bishop Band in 1976, followed by “Jane,” “No Way Out,” “Find Your Way Back,” “Stranger,” and “Layin’ It on the Line” with Jefferson Starship, and then three #1 hits—“We Built This City,” “Sara,” and “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now”—with STARSHIP. On December 1, MICKEY will release “A Classic Christmas,” a two-sided single (available digitally only, via Symphonic Distribution) on which he distinctively lights up such holiday gems as “Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year.” Pre-save “A Classic Christmas” HERE.

He adds: “In general, I prefer Christmas songs that are pensive and reflective. I love the ones that transport me into a warm nostalgia—the ones that express deeply personal feelings as opposed to religious themes. ‘Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas’ is a perfect example. It’s somewhat melancholy yet hopeful at the same time. I always imagine Judy Garland in the window singing it to her little sister in the hope of cheering her up.

“I then tried to balance the pensive nature of ‘Have Yourself…’ by pivoting to another classic (‘It’s The Most Wonderful Time of the Year’) that is truly a celebration of all things Christmas. Parties, singing carols, sledding, roasting marshmallows, social gaiety, reminiscing about past Christmases. It also gives me a chance to channel my inner crooner????.”

Following a busy and successful 2023 with his critically acclaimed THE DEVIL ALWAYS COLLECTS album (released this past September) and his first live shows in over four years, iconic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, and three-time Grammy Award-winner BRIAN SETZER will hit the road again in 2024. The new dates kick off February 24 in California, including stops in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Austin and more before wrapping March 10 in Nebraska (see full itinerary below). Pre-sale and on sale info is below; head to www.briansetzer.com for additional information.

●Artist Presale: Wednesday, November 15 (10:00 AM, local time)-Thursday, November 16 (10:00 PM, local time )

●Local Presale: Thursday, November 16 (10:00 AM-10:00 PM, local time)

●Public On Sale: Friday, November 17 (10:00 AM, local time)

BRIAN’s 2024 tour will come on the heels of his 2023 “ROCKABILLY RIOT” tour which coincided with the release of THE DEVIL ALWAYS COLLECTS. SETZER’s guitar work on the album is virtuosic and his vocals deliver the clever storylines of catchy songs like “The Devil Always Collects,” “Girl On The Billboard,” and “Rock Boys Rock.” Add in non-stop freight train rhythms, and you have an album—produced by BRIAN SETZER and Julian Raymond and mixed by Chris Lord-Alge—that stands with SETZER‘s best. Listen to the album HERE.

Here’s some critical feedback on the album:

“Looking for something to spice up your summer road trip playlist? Look no further than the lead single from rockabilly guitar titan Brian Setzer’s forthcoming LP, The Devil Always Collects. It’s pure roadside bar sleaze in the best way – with strutting Chuck Berry-by-way-of-the-gutter riffs, and even a Route 66 namecheck. You’ll want to put the pedal to the metal with this coming through your speakers.”
—Jackson Maxwell, GUITARWORLD.COM, 7/28/23 on “Girl On The Billboard”

“While impossible to stylistically separate The Devil Always Collects from Setzer’s previous output (and why would you?), it’s more polished, immediate, and even modern sounding with no compromise to the music. In other words, this is prime, deeply inspired Setzer.”
—Thom Jurek, ALLMUSIC.COM, 9/15/2023

“…arguably, one of his best [albums]. You can’t deny his incendiary guitar work, smooth vocals and artful blend of rockabilly, swing and retro cool. And jazzy acrobatic numbers like ‘What’ll it Be Baby Doll’ and Black Leather Jacket”’ are well crafted and seal the deal.”
—Eric Harabadian, MUSIC CONNECTION, 10/17/2023

“On his latest release, The Devil Always Collects Setzer sounds like a 21st-century Gene Vincent – Eddie Cochran hybrid with guitar chops speeding down the highway at 100 miles an hour while singing about the two main themes of rockabilly music – girls and good times with a playful sense of defiance and rebellion. His guitar playing sizzles and pops throughout with breathtaking dives and runs that boggle the mind…Brian Setzer is a keeper of the flame of the music that we all know and love and for that, we should all be grateful.”
—John Michael Antonio, AMERICANA HIGHWAYS, 9/18/2023

“Rock’n’Roll legend Brian Setzer once again proves he always delivers on his new album, The Devil Always Collects. From Blues to Jazz to Rock’n’Roll, The Devil Always Collects spotlights Setzer’s ability to create highly energetic, highly danceable Rock’n’Roll.”
—Brian Rock, THE ALTERNATE ROOT, 9/23/2023

“Although he’s always looked to the past for inspiration, Brian Setzer’s music never seems dated. Playing his hunches has given him the freedom to follow his muse. The Devil Always Collects doesn’t disappoint.”
—Eleni P. Austin, COACHELLA VALLEY WEEKLY, 11/9/2023

ABOUT BRIAN SETZER:

Iconic guitarist, songwriter, vocalist and 3-time Grammy award-winner BRIAN SETZER has achieved one career milestone after another. He’s sold millions of albums and is a “Musician’s Musician” credited with continually taking chances with innovative and daring musical styles. Setzer is widely credited for taking two forgotten genres, rockabilly and swing, adding his own blend of gunpowder and rockin’ style, and completely reinventing and single-handedly resurrecting them in the process. Along the way, he has scored chart-topping hits, sold 13 million records and received the Orville H. Gibson Lifetime Achievement Award throughout his decorated career as founder/leader of the Stray Cats, his 19-piece Brian Setzer Orchestra, and as a solo artist. He is consistently cited as one of the world’s greatest living guitarists, and has a best-selling, extensive line of elite Gretsch signature model guitars bearing his name. SETZER is also, fittingly, in the Rockabilly Hall of Fame. On the live front, Setzer has headlined venues and festivals worldwide, including a 1983 headlining slot on the iconic US Festival in California, The Playboy Jazz Festival, a three-night, sold-out headlining run at the Hollywood Bowl with the 98-piece Philharmonic Orchestra, Woodstock ’99, and performing in front of more than 150,000 people as headliner of the Montreal Jazz Festival.  His reach also includes films and TV, where his roles include portraying rockabilly pioneer Eddie Cochran in the 1987 film, La Bamba,  Fox’s “Beverly Hills 90210,” among many others, and he is one of the few musicians to be animated in an episode of “The Simpsons” in 2002. That same year, SETZER was personally requested to induct Chet Atkins into the 17th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. SETZER had the honor of being invited in 2006 to perform at the White House for the President of the United States. Also in 2006, he was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame with the Stray Cats. In 2014, SETZER received the distinct honor of being asked by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. to donate a replica of his original 1959 Gretsch 6120 “Stray Cat” guitar, joining an elite collection of iconic treasures at the museum.

Legends like Earl Palmer, Marty Harris, Ross Tompkins, Sam Most, Teddy Edwards, John Heard, Roy McCurdy, Frank Capp, Ernie McDaniel, Dini Clarke, Danny Grissett, George Gaffney, Mark Murphy, and Richie Cole (just to name a few) took time to mentor Dave Damiani, share stories and chord changes.

His debut album “Watch What Happens” has been receiving worldwide airplay. Brad “Martini” Chambers was the first to discover Dave Damiani’s originality. ABOUT KEN PEPLOWSKI

Ken Peplowski is a Buffet-Crampon artist, and plays the R-13 clarinet, with a Portnoy mouthpiece and Van Doren German-cut reeds. He also plays a Conn tenor sax and a Berg Larsen mouthpiece. Playing since elementary school, Ken Peplowski joined the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra under the direction of Buddy Morrow, and has certainly “checked all the boxes” be it in small clubs, the Hollywood Bowl (where he played a sold-out concert), headlining in Las Vegas, the Newport Jazz Festival, pops concerts, European festivals and clubs, or at home in NYC, doing everything from playing on the soundtracks to Woody Allen movies, guest soloing on records (his more interesting recent ones were Marianne Faithfull and Cuban vocalist Isaac Delgado) to taking on the role of music director for interactive French and Italian cookbooks (“Menus And Music”).

The litany of musicians Ken has collaborated with includes Mel Torme, Leon Redbone, Charlie Byrd, Peggy Lee, George Shearing, Madonna, Hank Jones, Dave Frishberg, Rosemary Clooney, Tom Harrell, James Moody, Cedar Walton, Houston Person, Steve Allen, Bill Charlap, Woody Allen, Marianne Faithfull, Isaac Delgado, and Erich Kunzel.

Ken’s new CD is called “Sunrise” and it is a big band record of new arrangements written exclusively for him, plus some reworking of classic arrangements. His upcoming CD is a duo record with Brazilian guitarist Diego Figuereido entitled “Amizade.”

He is currently the artistic director of the Sarasota Jazz Festival, the Newport Beach Jazz Party, and the Oregon Coast Jazz Party in Newport, Oregon.  Ken Peplowski has also been bestowed this year’s “Creative Arts Prize in Recognition of Outstanding Contribution in The Field of The Creative Arts” by the Polish American Historical Association.

ABOUT TIERNEY SUTTON

Nine-time Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton has received a “Best Jazz Vocal Album” Grammy nod for every project she has released in the last decade. Known for her impeccable voice and imaginative treatments of The Great American Songbook, Sutton is heralded for her abilities as both a jazz storyteller and her ability to use her voice as an instrument. Her 14 recordings as leader have addressed themes such as materialism (“Desire” 2009), the pursuit of happiness (“On The Other Side” 2007), as well as paying tribute to the music of Bill Evans (“Blue In Green” 2002), Frank Sinatra (“Dancing In The Dark” 2004), and pop icon Sting (“The Sting Variations” 2016). Her 2013 Joni Mitchell tribute, “After Blue” featured keyboardist Larry Goldings, drummer Peter Erskine, jazz vocal legend Al Jarreau, and NEA Jazz Master flautist Hubert Laws.

In May 2016, legendary Director Clint Eastwood approached Tierney. The original score to his box-office smash, “Sully,” was created by Tierney Sutton Band pianist, Christian Jacob, The Tierney Sutton Band and Clint Eastwood. The end-title song “Flying Home” features music by Eastwood and lyrics by Tierney Sutton and JB Eckl. It is performed by Tierney Sutton and The Tierney Sutton Band.

When she is not performing, Tierney is in demand as both a studio vocal producer and vocal educator. In 2016 she worked with famed lyric soprano Natalie Dessay for Sony Classics’ “Pictures of America” and the soon to be released “Between Yesterday and Tomorrow”.

Tierney taught for over a decade at USC’s Thornton School of Music and spent 6 years as the Vocal Department Head at The Los Angeles College of Music in Pasadena, CA. She has also taught and mentored some of the finest new generation of singers including Gretchen Parlato and Sara Gazarek.

ABOUT TAMIR HENDELMAN

An Israeli American jazz pianist, Hendelman has performed with the Jeff Hamilton Trio, the Clayton-Hamilton Jazz Orchestra, Harry Allen, Teddy Edwards, Warren Vaché, Houston Person, Jeff Clayton, Nick Brignola, Phil Upchurch, Rickey Woodard, John Clayton and Barbara Morrison. He also leads his own trio, and his debut CD Playground features him in this trio setting. His album Destinations features Lewis Nash and Marco Panascia. The album reached number one on the JazzWeek Jazz Charts in September 2010.

Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, Tamir Hendelman began his keyboard studies at age 6. In 1984, he moved to the United States and won Yamaha’s National Keyboard competition two years later at age 14. Concerts in Japan and the Kennedy Center followed.

He then studied at the Tanglewood Institute in 1988 and received a Bachelor of Music Composition degree from Eastman School of Music in 1993. He became the youngest musical director for Lovewell Institute for the Creative Arts, a national arts education non-profit organization.

Since returning to Los Angeles in 1996, he has been in steady demand as pianist and arranger, touring the US, Europe, and Asia. He has also received awards from ASCAP and the National Foundation for Advancement in the Arts. In 1999, Tamir was a guest soloist with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra.

Hendelman is the pianist/arranger on Jackie Ryan’s “You and the Night and the Music” and Janis Mann’s “A Perfect Time”. He is also featured on Natalie Cole’s “Still Unforgettable” (WEA, 2008) and Barbra Streisand’s Love Is the Answer (Columbia, 2009). In 2002 he also toured Europe with Tierney Sutton and the Bill Holman Big Band. Hendelman musically directed Julia Migenes’s “Alter Ego” and played/arranged Roberta Gambarini’s “Easy to Love” (Now Forward, 2006). In 2009, he accompanied Streisand at her engagement to the Village Vanguard in New York. He is also the bandleader of another trio in Los Angeles. The drummer Dean Koba has been part of it for years; on bass it is Dan Lutz or Carlito del Puerto.

ABOUT PATTY ASCHER

In the wake of her celebrated performances at the Blue Note NYC, Brazilian singer Patty Ascher is now poised as the `Brazilian Jazz Newest Sensation`. Whether singing in English or her native Portuguese, Patty Ascher brings an alluring quality to bear on every evocative tune. From achingly beautiful interpretations of songs by the likes of Michel Legrand and Burt Bacharach (the latter whom she paid tribute to on the acclaimed album Bacharach Bossa Club) to heartfelt renditions of her own affecting bossa nova and R&B flavored originals, Patty delivers with the kind of classy sophistication that belies to the great jazz singers.

Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Patty Ascher grew up in a musical household. Her father Neno was part of a successful Brazilian band from the 70s called Os Incríveis (The Incredibles). “My father was a musician, his brother is a very popular arranger and maestro in Brazil and all my cousins play an instrument,” she says. As a singer, she cites Brazilian divas Leny Andrade and Gal Costa along with American jazz divas Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, and Dinah Washington as important influences.

In 2007, after earning a master’s degree she encountered bossa nova pioneer Roberto Menescal, who invited Patty Ascher to record her first CD, singing Burt Bacharach songs in bossa nova style. “Meeting him was a sign to me,” she says. “It was a chance to go on seriously with a career, collaborating with a great producer and mentor. We released our project one year after our first meeting and it was a dream project. It was an incredible opportunity to sing samba and jazz together. They have a lot in common. Both were born in the ‘new continent’ at the same time from the same mother Africa.”

On her latest recording, Bossa, Jazz ‘n’ Samba, Patty Ascher’s gorgeous voice is surrounded by lush orchestrations from such respected veteran MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) artists and composer-arrangers as Dori Caymmi, Gilson Peranzetta, Amilson Godoy and Cristovao Bastos. This spirited cross-cultural project –recorded at the famous Gravodisc studios in Sao Paolo, Brazil –should put Patty Ascher over the top and she was nominated for a GRAMMY.

“Crunchy hooks form the bedrock of the track, which weaves together interstellar synths, kaleidoscopic electronic soundscapes and ethereal harmonies.” – Guitar World

“Their sound is distinctively Bowiesque: crunchy power chords leading the way into a supremely catchy tune whose infectious hook will immediately have fans finding parallels with their late idol.”Louder Than War (UK)

As unveiled on their debut single “Should’ve Known Better,” Rob Fleming and James Sedge’s new band KillerStar weaves modernist touches into the classic harmonies and exemplary musicianship of classic rock and art-rock from the ‘70s. And they’ve joined forces team of musicians known for their work with David Bowie: Mike Garson on piano, Earl Slick and Mark Plati on guitar, Gail Ann Dorsey and Tim Lefebvre on bass, Emm Gryner on backing vocals, and Donny McCaslin on saxophone.

Today (November 3), KillerStar take another step towards the March 1 release of their self-titled debut album by sharing the video for their second single “Falling Through.” It’s an ambitious, audacious adventure of a track, a song of two halves which recalls Pink Floyd in the way that it begins as a ballad before taking off on a journey into the cosmos via a soaring saxophone solo from Donny McCaslin (a contributor to Bowie’s Blackstar album). Watch the imagery-rich video HERE and listen to the song, out November 3, HERE.

Rob Fleming says, “‘Falling Through’ is about a moment in time and finding tranquility and taking in the surroundings, the ocean, sky, sun. The song builds and takes a left turn with Donny McCaslin providing soaring saxophone, full of emotion.”

This version of “Falling Through” is a different version to the one that will feature on KillerStar’s debut album, having been remixed as an alternative version by Mark Plati, one of Bowie’s key collaborators on records such as Earthling, Reality, and Heathen.

Rob Fleming (vocals, guitars, synths) and James Sedge (drums) formed KillerStar to express their love of timeless music ranging from the primeval rock n’ roll of the early 1970s to contemporary indie. The array of Bowie collaborators arose partly by design, but mostly by chance. Having recorded a set of demos, Rob asked Emm Gryner to contribute vocals, who, in turn, suggested he should contact Earl Slick. Step-by-step, one Bowie alumni led to another, resulting in Bowie’s spirit sparkling throughout KillerStar’s cocktail of earthy rock and nightclub glamour. The album was produced by Rob and James, mixed by Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers), with digital mastering by Joe La Porta and vinyl mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.

KillerStar’s debut album is available to pre-order HERE. It will be released on CD, black vinyl, a limited edition 180-gram gold vinyl pressing, and digital formats.

KillerStar will play a special UK album launch show at London’s 100 Club on March 16th. Rob and James will be joined by three of the key musicians on the album in the shape of Earl Slick (guitar), Mark Plati (bass) and Emm Gryner (backing vocals), and the line-up will be completed by keyboardist Dom Beken (Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, The Orb). Tickets are available HERE.
