In honor of the most haunting time of the year, horror-inspired metal outfit ICE NINE KILLS have released THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT, a frightfully enticing deluxe version of their critically acclaimed Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart-topping fourth album.

 

Out today, October 25, via Fearless Records, the ‘Final Cut‘ edition includes the album’s original 13 tracks along with the recently premiered new track, “Your Numbers Up,” a cover version of the famous hit “Thriller,” their full-length feature horror film The Silver Scream, and four bone-chilling acoustic renditions of previously released singles.
ICE NINE KILLS have also released a video stream for the new acoustic rendition of “Thank God It’s Friday” featuring none other than Ari Lehman, who first portrayed the immortal serial killer Jason Voorhees from the original 1980 iconic slasher film, Friday The 13th.

Industrial goth/rock quartet DAVEY SUICIDE will release their fourth album–ROCK AINT DEAD–on January 24, 2020 via Out Of Line Music/InGrooves. Featuring 13 tracks of their signature blend of arena rock, sleaze, and industrial music with a theatrical edge, the album was mixed and produced by Charles Kallaghan Massabo (Falling In Reverse) at Kallaghan Studios in Los Angeles, CA while being mastered by Shawn McGhee (Five Finger Death Punch, Papa Roach, Hellyeah) at Artistry Studios in Las Vegas, NV.

DAVEY SUICIDE premiered the music video for the album’s title track yesterday, Thursday, October 24, via Alternative Press who described it as “A cross between George Lucas’ 1971 sci-fi thriller THX 1138 and a titillating vampire movie (with a slight tribute to Aphex Twin’s ‘Come To Daddy’).”
 
Directed by Richard Villa III of Exhibit A Gallery, the video takes place in the year 2039 in a dystopian society that has dissolved the rock genre. Watch the “Rock Aint Dead” video in full below. (Note: Skip ahead to the 6:13 mark for just the single.)

Rock music and other antisocial expressions are forbidden in this new perfectly sterile society. All creative expressions have been deemed socially toxic and poison to human uniformity. The only way for anyone to be expressive or to experience any form of creativity is through the illegal use of Drug Enhanced Virtual Reality (DEVR). This underground DEVR experience is only obtained by those who seek it on the streets of back alleys hidden in the shadows. For those wanting to participate in this type of DEVR experience, there is this warning:
‘This type of music is forbidden and any partaking in it is punishable by death. Proceed at your own risk'”

Los Angeles – October 25, 2019 – Throughout the ’70s and ’80s, the iconoclastic composer Frank Zappa put on a series of spectacular, now legendary, shows around Halloween each year to celebrate his favorite holiday. Before settling on New York in 1974 to host his annual costume-clad festivities, which would continue until he retired the tradition in 1984, Zappa, fronting an exciting new band, performed two rousing back-to-back Halloween concerts the year prior at the Auditorium Theater in Chicago. Whereas many of the NYC shows were not recorded, due to the musician’s union charging exorbitant fees making it virtually impossible to allow Zappa to record the event, there were no such restrictions at the Chicago show – in true Zappa fashion it was of course taped.
 
Now for the first time ever, Zappa’s two complete Halloween shows recorded on October 31, 1973 in Chicago, are available today, October 25 via Zappa Records/UMe, just in time for Halloween. These completely unreleased live recordings total more than four and a half hours and feature songs from across his prolific catalog, including his then just-released 1973 album Over-Nite Sensation and forthcoming 1974 record Apostrophe(‘), as well as early arrangements of compositions like “Penguin In Bondage,” “Dickie’s Such An Asshole” and “Village Of The Sun” that would appear on later studio and live albums. Continuing the Halloween series that the Zappa Family Trust began in 2017 with the acclaimed Halloween 77 releases, Halloween 73 is available as a specially designed, limited run four-disc costume box complete with a FRANKenZAPPA mask and gloves, housed in a display worthy box. Produced by Ahmet Zappa and Vaultmeister Joe Travers, the boxed set is rounded out with a 40-page booklet featuring detailed liner notes from Travers and Ruth Komanoff Underwood and Ralph Humphrey,Zappa’s bandmates who played in the shows, and a wealth of never-before-seen photos from the event.
 
The two full shows are presented on discs 1-3, with the fourth disc dedicated to unreleased rehearsals recorded just before the tour started. A single CD version titled Halloween 73 Highlights, which collects together 16 handpicked performances from both shows, is also available. The concerts were recorded on 1/2″ 4-track analog tape which was stored in pristine condition in Zappa’s personal Vault. The tracks were digitally transferred in 96K/24B from the original analog tapes by Travers in 2019 and mastered and re-mixed by Craig Parker Adams. Both the deluxe boxed set and Highlights album will be available digitally for streaming and download.

After Zappa’s European tour that ended in September of ’73, the ever-restless musician decided to shake up his lineup once again and replaced woodwind and keyboards player Ian Underwood and violinist Jean Luc-Ponty with two new members: Chester Thompson on drums and Napoleon Murphy Brock who supplied vocals, tenor sax and flute. Following a month of rehearsals, the Halloween shows in Chicago marked the second gig for this new lineup. These recordings then represent the first official recording of this new configuration which as Travers writes in the liners, “would become infamous with the shows at The Roxy Theater scheduled for that December in Los Angeles and filmed for all posterity.”
 
Proceeding the Roxy performances, which can be heard in full on 2018’s The Roxy Performances boxed set, as well as the 1974 double live album Roxy & Elsewhere, it’s thrilling to hear the band dynamics and evolution. As Travers writes, “the music is fresh and going through changes, along with incorporating the new funky rhythms of Chester and the dynamic lead vocals of Napoleon. And with the mallets of Ruth Underwood prominently featured in the instrumentation, Bruce Fowler’s bionic trombone, Ralph Humphrey’s technical wizardry of the drum set, Tom Fowler’s command of the bass and the keyboard mastery of George Duke, it’s a no-brainer that this line-up would go on to be a favorite among fans. The musicianship and chemistry of the personnel blended so well together with the material Frank was writing. It would prove to be a golden period in the history of Frank Zappa and these Halloween shows are proof.”
 
Band members Ruth Komanoff Underwood and Ralph Humphrey both provide some fascinating insight into what it was like to play with Zappa and some insightful history about these shows in the in-depth liner notes which also feature beautiful live shots and intimate backstage photos. Underwood details Zappa’s desire to constantly change up the musicians he worked with and states, “Frank, though, wasn’t looking back for a moment, but only characteristically ahead, relishing the excitement and challenge at hand. Personnel changes had become routine for him, and he thrived on the new musical possibilities and mix of personalities. It was evident, then and always, that Frank needed to live his life in a state of perpetual transition, a reality that could be as maddening to us as it was exciting for all. However unnerving these constant changes, the exertion made us better players, despite some figurative bumps and bruises.”
 
These concerts would be the only Halloween shows that Zappa performed in Chicago as the Halloween tradition would start the next year in NYC in 1974 and continue for the next decade. These shows would have the same unbridled, celebratory spirit of the NY gigs that David Fricke of Rolling Stone hailed as “advanced, instrumental ecstasy, cliff-edge improvisation and impromptu theatrical hijinks.”

LEE ROCKER of The Stray Cats fame has announced 2020 U.K. dates following his previously announced 2019/2020 U.S. and Canada tour. Coming off this year’s Stray Cats 40th anniversary tour with red-hot shows and their critically acclaimed album 40 (Surfdog Records), the bassist/vocalist and his band will perform Stray Cats hits including “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut” and “Sexy and 17” as well as slamming renditions of songs from his many solo albums. ROCKER will also release a new self-written-and produced single and video, “Dog House Shuffle,” on October 30 via his label Upright Records (distributed through Orchard). Musicians joining ROCKER (vocal, string bass) on the single are Buzz Campbell (guitar, backing vocal), Larry Mitchell (drums, percussion), Justin Rocker (acoustic guitar, backing vocal), and Joey Eight (piano, harmonica and backing vocal).
 
This past summer, LEE ROCKER toured America as part of The Stray Cats from August 2-September 1 (presented by SiriusXM) on the heels of the band’s June and July overseas shows where he “muscled his double bass as he dropped, dragged, straddled, slapped and swung it with mastery” (Big Takeover, 8/19/19). In a multiple-page feature in the new Bass Player magazine (December 2019), ROCKER is asked about his ability to come up with fresh rockabilly bass-lines. He says: “I’m still discovering things. I still have revelations: ‘how did I not think of this before?’ There are a lot of different rhythms and slaps, and different ways to walk your bass-lines. There’s only 12 notes but there’s an infinite number of ways to play them.”

About Lee Rocker:
Lee Rocker made his mark singing, playing, standing on, spinning and rocking his giant upright bass in the legendary music group The Stray Cats. Grammy-nominated, The Stray Cats have sold nearly 10 million albums and garnered an astounding 23 gold and platinum certified records worldwide. Founded by Rocker, Brian Setzer, and Slim Jim Phantom, The Stray Cats remain a radio staple, were music video pioneers at the infancy of MTV, and repeatedly brought rockabilly music to the top of the charts. From the cover of the Rolling Stone magazine, to appearing on Saturday Night Live, to headlining music festivals and touring with the Rolling Stones, Lee Rocker has seen and done it all. In addition to The Stray Cats and the Rolling Stones, Rocker has toured and performed with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, and John Fogerty. In 1982, Rocker and his father Stanley Drucker (classical clarinetist) both received Grammy nominations; this was something that has only occurred twice in the history of the Grammy Awards.  In 2012 Lee appeared on Broadway in the hit musical “Million Dollar Quartet” and in 2014 he was inducted into the Bass Player Hall of Fame. Rocker has received numerous honors for his contributions to music and the arts, including being inducted to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and he is a recipient of the Visionary Artist Award by the City of Laguna Beach California. Currently Lee Rocker and his band are touring and performing Stray Cats hits including “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut” and “Sexy and 17” as well as slamming renditions of songs from his many solo albums.

Amidst headlining SiriusXM Octane Present’s “The Octane Accelerator Tour” across the U.S. laterthis fall, horror-inspired metal outfit ICE NINE KILLS will celebrate their homecoming stop at The Palladium in Worcester, MA on Saturday, November 30 by reviving their annual “Thanx-Killing” show in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday on November 28. The show will be recorded and filmed for a future project and includes special guests Fit For A King, Light The Torch, Make Them Suffer and Awake At Last. Tickets are available now at www.iceninekills.com.
 
“The time is upon us once again for a bloodbath of gravy to overflow through the streets of Massachusetts,” declares vocalist SPENCER CHARNAS. “The 4th annual Thanx-Killing fest will be a feast of flesh that will be carved into the nightmares of New England for years to come.”
 
ICE NINE KILLS have been seen rising on the Active Rock Radio charts with their chant-inducing single, “Savages“–currently at #18–which can be heard as the background track for MLB team New York Yankees‘ post-season recap compilation video online being played in-stadium and broadcast online, take a peek HERE.
 
Last week INK debuted a brand-new track, “Your Number’s Up,” inspired by Wes Craven’s genre-defining 1996 film Scream and which will be featured as a bonus track on their upcoming October 25 release THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT.

Further bonus content will

include four haunting acoustic renditions of previously released singles, a cover version of the iconic song “Thriller” and a DVD of their own horror film, The Silver Scream, which alongside the cd will be encased in a special VHS slipcase. Notable figures in the horror and metal community alike will be seen featured as guests including Grammy-nominated musician Matt Heafy (Trivium), horror icon Ari Lehman (the original Jason, Friday the 13th), Chelsea Talmadge (Stranger Things) and Sam Kubrick (grandson of Stanley Kubrick who famously directed The Shining).

The Zappa Trust has announced the release of two books honoring legendary musician and composer Frank Zappa‘s legacy: ZAPPA GEAR: THE UNIQUE GUITARS, AMPLIFIERS, EFFECTS UNITS, KEYBOARDS AND STUDIO EQUIPMENT by Mick Ekers with foreword by Dweezil Zappa and THE HOT RATS BOOK, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Frank Zappa‘s HOT RATS album by Bill Gubbins and Ahmet Zappa.
“These books provide another way for fans to connect with Frank Zappa,” Ahmet Zappa says. “They give a fascinating window into Frank’s mind and the ideas he came up with throughout his career.”
First up, the November 29 release of Zappa Gear: The Unique Guitars, Amplifiers, Effects Units, Keyboards and Studio Equipment by Mick Ekers with the foreword by Dweezil Zappa. Zappa Gear offers an unprecedented inside look at the machinery behind the legendary music. In addition to a detailed presentation of the equipment, Zappa Gear also introduces some of the pioneering inventors, engineers, and entrepreneurs without whom the instruments would not exist. Frank Zappa was an unremitting musical innovator and experimenter, always looking for ways to exploit the latest advances in technology. His working life coincided with the explosive development of music technology that ran from the 1960s through the following three decades. Without such inventions as the Marshall amplifier, the Gibson SG, the wah-wah pedal, and the Synclavier–much of it modified to Zappa‘s requirements and used in ways for which they had never been designed–Zappa‘s “air sculptures,” as his music has been described, would have had a significantly different shape and texture. Lavishly illustrated, the book includes over 180 unique photographs of Frank Zappa‘s guitars and equipment taken by the author at Zappa‘s UMRK studio in Los Angeles. Zappa Gear is an official Frank Zappa book produced and written with the full cooperation and endorsement of Gail Zappa and the Zappa Family Trust.
The following month will see the release of The Hot Rats Book by Bill Gubbins and Ahmet Zappa, out December 15. To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the much-loved Hot Rats LP, Ahmet Zappa and the Zappa Trust have teamed with Backbeat Books and Bill Gubbins, the only photographer to document the Hot Rats sessions, to create The Hot Rats Book, a deluxe, commemorative book packed with never before-seen photos and an interview between Ahmet and Gubbins documenting the Hot Rats sessions and last U.S. show of the original Mothers of Invention on August 10, 1969 at Cleveland’s Musicarnival in Warrensville Heights, Ohio. “A movie for your ears” is how rock icon Frank Zappa first described his album Hot Rats, which remains, 50 years after its release, not only one of Zappa‘s most critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums, but a stunning tour-de-force of the totality of his musical genius and legendary skills as a composer, lyricist, producer, arranger, studio innovator and virtuoso guitar player. The Hot Rats Book is an official Frank Zappa book produced and written with the full cooperation and endorsement of the Zappa Trust.

Gubbins had just turned 19 when Zappa invited him to document the Hot Rats sessions after being interviewed by him following the Musicarnival show.

October is the month of haunting, and horror-inspired metal outfit ICE NINE KILLS are prepared to keep listeners filled with terror as they slowly unravel details on the deluxe edition of their critically acclaimed standout 2018 effort, THE SILVER SCREAM.

Scheduled for release on October 25thvia Fearless Records, THE SILVER SCREAM: FINAL CUT is a devilish director’s cut style delicacy packed with the original Billboard Hard Rock Albums chart-topping slab’s 13 songs of punishingly heavy and uproariously anthemic odes to 13 horror classics. In addition to the original tracking, the album will include bone-chilling acoustic dirge renditions of goth-avenging “A Grave Mistake (live at SiriusXM),” chainsaw-wielding “Savages,” machete-slashing “Thank God It’s Friday“(co-starring the first Jason himself, horror icon Ari Lehman) and pumpkin-carving “Stabbing in the Dark” (featuring Trivium frontman Matt Heafy), the latter of which premieres today in the below video stream, as well as being released across all digital streaming platforms.
 
The ‘hands of fate’ played their role not only in this song, but also in real life as TRIVIUM‘s Matt Heafy had originally covered ICE NINE KILLS “Stabbing in the Dark” on his ‘KiichiChaosKaraoke’ Twitch series, where fans request him to learn and perform a song of their choice in its entirety while live streaming. A collaboration was imminent, and the results can be heard below:
