6x Platinum and 8x Gold-certified, record-breaking Finnish rock outfit THE RASMUS hold nothing back on their new track, the toxic love-themed “Break These Chains” ft. Niko Vilhelm of Blind Channel. It’s out today (May 16) via Better Noise Music and Playground Music. Driven by the band’s signature blend of dark atmospheres and anthemic melodies, the emotionally gripping song is taken from the album WEIRDO. It arrives September 12, marking their 11th studio album and first for Better Noise Music. Pre-orders and limited edition merchandise bundles are available now HERE.

Listen to “Break These Chains” HERE and watch the video, directed by Aleksei Kulikov, HERE on the band’s official YouTube page.

“‘Break These Chains’ is about a toxic relationship,” says singer Lauri Ylönen, who digs his teeth into such lethal lyrics as “You made me believe/That true passion makes you bleed/So I stayed too long/To play your twisted games.” Lauri wrote the song with revered hit songwriters/producers Marti Frederiksen and Desmond Child. “It’s about letting go of something that you know is bad for you, but you’re obsessed with.”

For “Break These Chains,” THE RASMUS called on Niko Vilhelm (of the Finnish Nu Metal band Blind Channel) to make a special guest vocal appearance. “The Rasmus are heroes of mine, so obviously I was excited when Lauri called me and asked me to be a part of this song. Even more so when I heard the track. The heavier sound suits them soooo well. I’m so hyped about where they’re headed and what’s to come.”

Most of the songs on WEIRDO were written by Lauri Ylönen, Desmond Child (who contributed to the band’s BLACK ROSES and RISE albums and has worked with Bon Jovi, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Aerosmith,  Alice Cooper, among countless others) and Marti Fredriksen (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Veil Brides) in Folegandros, Greece. That’s where Lauri and Desmond met up to work on material that Lauri brought. THE RASMUS then did full band demos of all the tracks in Finland in July 2023, with production led by Frederiksen and Child.

Later, they finalized the songs and recorded the album with the whole band in Marti Fredriksen’s Sienna Studios in Nashville. Some of the tracks were mixed by Fredriksen in Nashville, assisted by Evan Fredriksen, while other mixes were done by Chris Baseford (Nickelback, Shinedown, Daughtry) in Vancouver, Canada and by Claudius Mittendorfer (Panic! At The Disco, We Are Scientists) in London, and Joseph McQueen (Bad Wolves, As I Lay Dying, From Ashes To New) in Los Angeles. Additional production by McQueen injects a fresh intensity into tracks like “Creatures of Chaos” and “Break These Chains,” while Ylönen himself takes the helm on “Rest in Pieces” alongside Alex Mattson.

The album’s second single Creatures of Chaosarrived March 28, with the video racking up over 521k views. It followed the album’s first single Rest In Pieces,” released October 25, 2024, paired with a lyric video which now has amassed over 556k views.

“I find it comforting that our 11th album, WEIRDO, has pretty much the same message as on our first album released in 1996,” says Lauri. “It is to defend and praise the ones who are different from the masses and proudly being themselves as they are. It has been our philosophy from the very beginning.”

Ylönen explains the power behind being a “weirdo.” “In this society I’ve always felt that I’ve had to prove myself for being the way I am or doing the things I do. I’ve always felt like an outsider not fitting the norm. I’ve been called a weirdo, misfit and a freak. That used to make me angry—but not anymore. It’s become my source of strength and confidence. I’ve realized the power of it. All the people I find exciting and inspiring are somehow strange. We, the Weirdos, unite and feed off people’s judging attitudes. The fact is they’re just afraid of us. Afraid of our capability to create new and change the future. Are you a Weirdo? Join us…”

THE RASMUS will bring their unforgettable stage show to audiences worldwide in 2025 on the “Weirdo Tour.” They recently concluded a month-long U.S. trek with The Funeral Portrait, and are now in the midst of their own North American headlining tour, which kicked off May 3 in Atlanta, GA. Tickets are on sale now for its European leg (9/12 – 12/6); see the full dates listed below.

“It’s been a while since we went on tour, so we’re really excited to be heading out all over the world in 2025,” exclaims Lauri Ylönen. “It’s shaping up to be a massive tour and there’s more dates to come. We can’t wait to hang out with our fans. It’s going to be fun to see them again, we’re like family.”

Meanwhile, The Rasmus will play a charity concert in Ukraine on July 19 as the headliner of the Atlas Festival, as the only foreign artist at the event. The band wants to do their part to help Ukraine. Over 60,000 people are expected to be in attendance, and there will be a comprehensive security system and evacuation plan for the audience and performers in just a few minutes if necessary. Last year, the festival raised over two million euros for charity. The artists can choose to direct their charitable funds to any Ukraine-related cause, such as supporting children’s hospitals, purchasing ambulances, or helping combat medical personnel.

“It’s scary to play in the middle of war, but we want to show our support for the Ukrainian people,” says Lauri Ylönen. We have a massive fan base in Ukraine and we’ve also previously done a joint song with the Ukrainian Eurovision winner Kalush Orchestra.”

With its uncompromising vision and unapologetic message, WEIRDO is poised to be THE RASMUS’ most ambitious and impactful album yet. Here’s the album’s track list:

ABOUT ATLAS FESTIVAL

The first edition of Atlas festival dates back to 2015 and ran successfully until 2019. In 2024 the organizers bravely brought it back, creating the biggest music event to take place in Ukraine since the invasion started, with 63,000 people in 3 days. The festival had a robust safety framework to ensure the artists’ and audience’s safety. The new venue – Blockbuster Mall – has the biggest underground parking in all of Ukraine (50000 m2), which can quickly become a shelter. In fact, in case of alarm, the entire festival can be evacuated to the shelter in a matter of minutes. The organizers worked and continue to work with the State Emergency Services, regional military administration and city administration to ensure the mitigation of all risks and the preparation for any threats without any danger to the people.

The festival entirely revolves around a big charity goal – to raise 100mln UAH (2.3 M EUR) to help the country. In 2024 Atlas Festival reached the goal with the help of its audience, artists, influencers and everyone who was involved. The whole festival was built around raising these funds with the help of our artist, sponsors, audience and all the country’s volunteers, influencers and opinion leaders.

Finnish 6x Platinum and 8x Gold-certified, record-breaking rock outfit The Rasmus are back with their electrifying new single, “Creatures of Chaos,” released today (March 28) on all digital outlets via Better Noise Music and Playground Music. With their signature blend of dark atmospheres and anthemic melodies, the band once again proves why they remain a force to be reckoned with in the rock world. In their native Finland, where they are the reigning #1 rock band, The Rasmus stands at #1 on Spotify, YouTube, Instagram and Deezer as far as followers, views, likes and streams.

The video for “Creatures of Chaos” can be seen on the band’s official YouTube page HERE.

At its core, “Creatures of Chaos” is an anthem for outsiders, a rallying cry for anyone who has ever felt like they don’t belong. “‘Creatures of Chaos’ is a global invitation to all misfits and anyone out there who’s ever felt like an outsider to join us!” exclaims frontman Lauri Ylönen. “The world is such a messed up place right now. I felt like going harder musically to match my feelings of being lost, scared and uncomfortable. People are so divided with their opinions that I find myself looking for hope and unity out of people like myself. It’s important to belong somewhere and take a stand with your opinions. ‘Creatures of Chaos’ is a shout-out to all people like us to come together.”

The song was written by Lauri together with Desmond Child and Marti Fredriksen, Child having worked together with the band on the previous albums Black Roses and Rise. Creatures of Chaos was tracked at Fredriksen’s Sienna Studios in Nashville. Joseph McQueen did some additional production and mixed and mastered the track at Sparrow Sound in Los Angeles.

Packed with driving riffs, anthemic hooks, and raw emotion, the song channels the spirit of rebellion and unity that has always been at the heart of The Rasmus’ music. The song was written by Lauri along with renowned songwriter Desmond Child (who contributed to the band’s BLACK ROSES and RISE albums and has worked with Bon Jovi, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Aerosmith,  Alice Cooper, among with countless others), and Marti Fredriksen (Aerosmith). Tracked at Fredriksen’s Sienna Studios in Nashville and produced by Marti Frederiksen and Desmond Child, with additional production by Joseph McQueen, it captures the band at their most dynamic and urgent.

“Creatures of Chaos” is the follow-up to “Rest In Pieces,” which was released October 25, 2024 via Better Noise Music along with a lyric video that can be seen HERE (which currently has over 478k views). Fans can listen to it via their preferred streaming platform HERE.

With their signature blend of dark atmospheres and anthemic melodies, the band once again proves why they remain an aesthetic force to be reckoned with in the rock world. The Rasmus have also generated an impressive 829 million global career streams.

THE RASMUS will bring their unforgettable stage show to audiences worldwide in 2025 on the “Weirdo Tour.”  Tickets are on sale now for its European leg (9/12 – 12/6); see the full dates listed below. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for additional dates.

Rest In Pieces” is an irresistibly heavy, dark and melodic song, marking the start of the next chapter in THE RASMUS’ sonic evolution with a sense of fearless bravado and world-conquering intensity. Its hard-hitting and unapologetic lyrics stem from a place of anger and betrayal. Founder, frontman, and lead singer-songwriter Lauri Ylönen shares: “This all started very organically, the story behind the music is that I was betrayed by a friend. I was sad and pissed off at the same time. I wanted to channel my frustration into the music and create what I call a ‘f*ck you song’ for revenge.”

That’s usually the best thing for any artist or creator to do in that situation,” he continues. “You take the emotion and turn it into something powerful. There’s an impulse that comes through and you find the strength to capture it in the form of music to make art. It might seem negative at first, but I wanted this song to also feel empowering to anyone who hears it. There’s that uplifting thing that we do. I would say ‘Rest In Pieces’ is very positive amongst all the intensity.”

Finnish rockers THE RASMUS formed 30 years ago, led by founding frontman and songwriter Lauri Ylönen, immediately inked a major label deal after the release of their first EP in 1995. The band’s fifth album Dead Letters solidified them as a global force, achieving 8 Gold and 6 Platinum certifications with over 2 million copies sold worldwide and breaking the record for performance royalties received abroad on a Finnish composition. Its lead single “In The Shadows” received 6x Gold and 2x Platinum certifications, selling over 1 million copies and was nominated for Kerrang! AwardsBest Single” in 2004. The album won in five categories at the 2004 Finnish EMMA Awards, earned the band “Best Nordic Act” honors at 2003 MTV Europe Music Awards and garnered two awards for “Best International Artist” and “Best International Newcomer” at the 2004 MTV Russia Music Awards.

Since then, THE RASMUS have continued to evolve their sound with the perfect mix of melody, edge and showmanship; they also possess the ability to perfectly blend across genres—from mainstream pop and electronica to explosive rock and hard-hitting metal. THE RASMUS are now excited to announce that their upcoming track, “Rest In Pieces,” will be released on October 25. Pre-save it HERE. The irresistibly heavy, dark, and melodic song introduces their new partnership with premiere independent record label BETTER NOISE MUSIC who will jointly release the new music alongside Nordic indie label PLAYGROUND MUSIC.

The Rasmus have never chosen to rest easy on previous success, but are always striving for new achievements with great dedication and energy,” says Playground Music‘s CEO Mårten Aglander. “With Better Noise Music we’ve found a most skilled and powerful partner who also fully matches their ambition. I’m really happy for us and for the band that this cooperation can happen.

We are very excited to work with Better Noise Music, I can’t think of a better international home for The Rasmus,” says Lars Tengroth, The Rasmus’ A&R man at Playground Music since 1999. “The band’s new material is harder and darker and fits the label perfectly.

Better Noise Music have been watching and waiting in the shadows for an opportunity to work with The Rasmus and Antti Eriksson of Backbone Management and Lars Tengroth of Playground,” exclaims Dan Waite, CEO of Better Noise Music. The Rasmus are a band that elicit a strong warm and positive response from everyone we talk to, and we can’t wait for people to see what they have planned for 2025.

THE RASMUS will support the new music with a world tour and today, October 22, have announced dates for their “Weirdo” tour across Europe from September 12 to December 6, 2025. See shows listed below. An artist exclusive pre-sale will begin tomorrow, Wednesday, October 23 and tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday, October 25 via https://therasmus.com/. Stay tuned in the coming weeks for further show announcements.

It’s been a while since we went on tour, so we’re really excited to be heading out all over the world in 2025,” shares vocalist Lauri Ylönen. It’s shaping up to be a massive tour and there’s more dates to come. We can’t wait to hang out with our fans. It’s going to be fun to see them again, we’re like family.”
