With the release of their fifth full length album KALIYUGA out today, Friday, August 7 via UNFD, Australian melodic metalcore outfit/environmental harbingers IN HEARTS WAKE have released a new single/music video for the aspirational track “Moving On” as well as announced a community tree planting day on Saturday, August 8 in the Northern Rivers, AU (details below).
Moving On” celebrates letting go of that which no longer serves us and is a celebration of transformation and getting back to what really matters. IN HEARTS WAKE firmly believe that as we regrow our roots, we remember our way forward. Like many songs from the upcoming album, it is a track of ruthless self-examination. Probing personal and transpersonal insights into the human condition, searching for what helps or hinders the way forward.

Like many in the music industry, the band have faced their own challenges during the preparation for KALIYUGA‘s release as the band members all live in different locations and have been isolated from one another during the global pandemic.

“In 2020 everything has felt quite uncertain,” shares IN HEARTS WAKE frontman JAKE TAYLOR. “For us, ‘Moving On’ encapsulates the light at the end of the tunnel. It dawns the release of our new record ‘Kaliyuga’ and we are thrilled to finally share it with the world!”

IN HEARTS WAKE will continue to promote the mission and vision that compelled the five of them to come together at the young age of 15 which was to craft and perform the finest authentic, purposeful and passionate heavy music they could while making a positive difference along the way. The band have transformed into an international bright light since those days and they are dedicated to igniting widespread positive change.

KALIYUGA is the culmination of their efforts having been 100% entirely carbon offset through the purchase of carbon credits in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor of Western Australia. The album is also packaged and manufactured plastic free, using recycled materials including vinyl copies of the album being pressed on calcium based eco-plastic using vegan ink with recycled and eco-friendly packaging.

To further their efforts, IN HEARTS WAKE previously pledged to plant one tree for every thousand views of their single “Worldwide Suicide” which now has over 300,000 views and counting. The band will be hosting a community tree planting day in partnership with Rainforest4 on Saturday, August 8 aiming to plant 1,000 trees in two hours and are inviting anyone in the Northern Rivers area to join them at Earthwalker & Cromwell Farms on their one-hundred-acre property. Social distancing guidelines will be adhered to. Those wishing to attend must register hereHead to the Facebook event for more information.

Australian melodic metalcore outfit IN HEARTS WAKE have just released a fourth single, “Dystopia,” from their upcoming entirely carbon-offset album KALIYUGA, due out August 7 via UNFD. “Dystopia“–as seen below– takes a new musical approach for the band, with compelling drive, progression and layered melodic intricacy. The track, like the album, is inspired by the ‘Four Ages of Humanity.’

“‘Dystopia’ speaks of the fourth cycle and present age of the world known in Hinduism as ‘Kaliyuga,'” explains vocalist JAKE TAYLOR. “‘Kaliyuga’ is often referred to as the dark age due to the predominate traits of discord, disconnection, destruction, materialism, oppression, cruelty and fear. We look for the cause to cast the blame, but humanity need only look at itself in the mirror. It is time for us to face and overcome the issues and challenges that currently threaten all life on Earth.”

Dystopia” offers a way forward by encouraging listeners to question and see through the deadening status quo while providing inspiration to believe that our capability to grow and change the way we live on earth and with each other is limitless. The video for “Dystopia” takes the viewer through the different age cycles and acknowledges the challenges before us. Watch it below or HERE.

KALIYUGA is a ruthless scrutiny of self and the social and eco injustices and abuse at play today. The power and purpose of the record is evident in every facet of its making. IN HEARTS WAKE measured each power socket, light bulb, pound of freight, travel and food consumed during the recording process to find the total carbon footprint came to 26.37 tonnes of CO2e. This has been entirely offset through the purchase of carbon credits in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor of Western Australia. The album will also be packaged and manufactured plastic free, using recycled materials.

Vinyl copies of the album have been pressed on calcium based eco-plastic with recycled and eco-friendly packaging, coming in four different variants (molten, ash, flame and ignite). Having sold through most vinyl options globally within hours, today the band release a fifth ‘smoke’ variation. This white ‘smoke’ variant was set aside for an exclusive tour release but due to COVID-19 halting all tour plans for now, it has been made available. These are high demand products and will sell through quickly. Pre-order via the UNFD store here.

Australian metalcore outfit IN HEARTS WAKE have teamed up with Polaris vocalist Jamie Hails on their new single and music video “Hellbringer.” The single–out today, May 26–is the third release from the band’s upcoming 100% carbon offset album KALIYUGA due August 7 via UNFD. Watch “Hellbringer” below or stream/download it via your preferred digital platform at https://unfd.lnk.to/kaliyuga.

Hellbringer” features gleefully wicked guitar licks, mosh-friendly breakdowns and the anthemic choruses IN HEARTS WAKE are known for. The single and its accompanying video jubilantly celebrates the freedom and joy of unbridled heavy music, in defiance of those people who call it ‘the devil’s music’. The band reminds people that they don’t need to take themselves too seriously, as they create a video that parodies the awkwardness of live music streams in the new normal created by COVID-19.

Vocalist Jake Taylor shared how the video’s concept was developed:

At some of our American shows, extremist groups have picketed outside, telling our fans that they’re ‘going to hell’. If only they knew just how positive the energy inside the venue was! Never judge a book by its cover. So rather than fight hate with hate, we decided to have some fun and lean into the metal stereotype. In 2020 with live streams becoming the new norm, we decided to stage our own hell-bent circus. We thought it would be funny to ask Jamie to dress up as a werewolf, turn me into a vampire and rain blood on the entire band. Guess Halloween came early this year. Thank you Blade.”

Hellbringer” follows two previously released singles, “Son Of A Witch” and “Worldwide Suicide,” from KALIYUGA which was entirely carbon offset. The band measured every power socket, light bulb, pound of freight, travel and food consumed during the recording process of the record. They found the total carbon footprint came to 26.37 tonnes of CO2e. This has been entirely offset through the purchase of carbon credits in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor of Western Australia. The album will also be packaged and manufactured plastic free, using recycled materials.

Pre-orders of KALIYUGA are available now at unfdstore.com.

Australian metalcore outfit IN HEARTS WAKE will release their fifth studio album KALIYUGA on August 7 via UNFD, marking their first new music in three years. Known throughout their career for their passion and dedication to environmental awareness, the band have minimized their environmental footprint on the release by carbon offsetting the entire process and using recycled materials to create physical products for the music. IN HEARTS WAKE today have shared a new single/music video for the track “Son Of A Witch” (see below) that follows the previously released debut single/video for “Worldwide Suicide” for which the band vowed to plant one native tree per every 1,000 views it receives.

Son Of A Witch” is influenced by IN HEARTS WAKE frontman JAKE TAYLOR‘s experience of the devastating Malibu Fires in 2018. This experience kindled the creation of the single, which was penned before the great burning of the Amazon Rainforest and the destructive 2020 wildfires in Australia.  Filming for the song’s live action clip was restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Coronavirus turned our video cartoon,” says TAYLOR of the animated video. “These challenging times are forcing us to adapt, evolve and discover new ways of doing things. I scoured the internet for an animation team who could bring to life this emotive, sensitive and archetypal narrative about humanity’s neglect and mistreatment of Mother Earth. I’ve never written or directed animation before, but it opened up new possibilities and for that I’m grateful.”

IN HEARTS WAKE – “Son Of A Witch” Official Music Video

IN HEARTS WAKE calculated the recording process of the album to be 26.37 tonnes of CO2e which has been entirely offset through the purchase of carbon credits in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor of Western Australia. The album will also be packaged and manufactured plastic free.

“During the recording process for ‘Kaliyuga’ we measured every power socket, counted every light, pound of freight, food consumption, driving mile and airfare taken,” says TAYLOR. “We were then able to find the total carbon footprint and offset it by supporting a rewilding project in Australia on First Nations land.”
He continues, “Our mission to help support and sustain life on Earth has made us realize that less is more. Many industries are evolving, and as musicians we feel it’s time to do our part. It’s been challenging to navigate the retail hurdles, find sustainable materials and successful companies that embody our ethos, but through a bit of research we’ve discovered that there are many solutions out there.”

KALIYUGA is accompanied by a brand-new website, https://thehouseofkali.com/, which is now live. The site offers album news, insights, exclusive content and clues as well as a host of important information.

IN HEARTS WAKE are long time champions of the earth, with their last three albums themed around the natural elements that make life here possible. Earthwalker (2014) explored the element of Earth, Skydancer (2015) explored air, and Ark (2016) focused on water. All three albums debuted in the Top 5 of the ARIA charts with the themes of social and environmental justice and self-accountability steady throughout.  It is uncanny that the band’s fourth album, KALIYUGA, would be born of fire, inspired and bookended by the devastating fires that occurred in California and Australia throughout 2018, 2019 and 2020.

KALIYUGA takes a surgeon’s scalpel and a sledgehammer to cut and smash through dysfunction. A ruthless scrutiny of self and the social and eco injustices and abuse at play today blazes throughout the album as IN HEARTS WAKE aim to break the barriers of apathy, distraction, disinformation, anxiety and despair to spread the band’s purpose and passion like wildfire.

“Ancients from different cultures spoke of Four Ages of Humanity,” says TAYLOR. “The Hindu ancients called the Age we are in right now, ‘KALIYUGA’ – a time when negativity such as discord, greed, materialism and fear create strife and imbalance for life on earth. We’re seeing this in the world around us and in the chaos of recent events. But I believe we were born into this age for a reason-that we can transform the challenges we face by seizing the opportunity to grow and change the way we live on the earth and with each other.”

KALIYUGA is geared for inciting widespread positive action and breaking new ground in order to tackle the most pressing crises on the planet today. This is inspiring conscious heavy music for these times.

IN HEARTS WAKE Release First New Music In Three Years With Environmentally-Charged Single “Worldwide Suicide”

DT: MARCH 17, 2020

FM: KELLY WALSH

IN HEARTS WAKE
RELEASE FIRST NEW MUSIC IN THREE YEARS WITH
INTENSE VIDEO FOR
“WORLDWIDE SUICIDE”

BAND TO PLANT 1 TREE FOR EVERY 1K VIEWS
“…environmentally charged music aimed at creating awareness around important issues. It’s a mantra that does great credit to the group’s level of commitment to the state of our world.”
The Brag Media (Australia)

“Each step the band has taken, whether a release of a new album or novel tour expedition, has raised awareness toward the environment and it is utterly praiseworthy their commitment to the insight into our world’s nature.”
Heavy Mag (Australia)

Australian metalcore outfit and environmental awareness harbingers IN HEARTS WAKE are back with their first new music in three years. Known for inspiring change by using social/environmental justice and self-accountability as core themes throughout their lyrics, IN HEARTS WAKE‘s new single “Worldwide Suicide” is their most direct and impassioned statement yet. The jarring video (seen below) begins with the intro segment “Crisis” which features a sample of Greta Thunberg‘s address at the climate strike in NYC last year recorded by vocalist/frontman JAKE TAYLOR. The video depicts a house on fire with each room representing an ecosystem, and in those rooms a human from every stage of life is under serious threat causing the survival of humanity to face its greatest challenge yet–overcoming the inertia and dysfunction within ourselves to affect real change. Its message of “ecocide is suicide” is a call for positive action and will see the band plant one tree for every 1,000 views it receives.

“The Antarctic has reached an all-time high temperature of 20.7°C,” says TAYLOR. “The Australian bushfires have burned over 12 million hectares of land, killing over 1 billion animals. The climate crisis is pounding on our door and we need to take action while there is still a window to turn it around. It’s time for profound systemic change as individuals and as a community. Last year I attended the NYC Climate strike and half a million passionate people showed up led by Greta Thunberg. It was the first time in a while that I felt so much hope for the future. When we gathered at Battery Park I felt inspired to pull out my voice recorder. Greta delivered an incredible speech. Some of the elders around me likened it to the time they heard Martin Luther King deliver his ‘I have a dream’ speech in the 60’s. One week later our track ‘Crisis’ was born.”

“We are aware that the ‘Worldwide Suicide’ video is confrontational,” continues TAYLOR. “We created this not to shock or cause despair but to incite positive action. In the spirit of this, the band has committed to plant 1 tree for every 1K views, restoring part of a vital ecosystem with the hope that every viewer and their descendants will one day enjoy its benefits.”

“Music is both our art and our platform. I feel we have a responsibility as artists to challenge the status quo. What challenges has the potential to create change. If we can change, then we can evolve.”

One of Australia’s leading heavy music acts, five-piece metalcore fellowship IN HEARTS WAKE released their debut album Divination in 2012. They toured relentlessly, spreading their unique sound and building a fiercely loyal following along the way. Their previous three albums–Earthwalker(2014), Skydancer (2015) and Ark (2016)–debuted in the Top 5 of the ARIA charts, opening doors for the band around the world as they toured North America, Europe and Asia extensively, before taking 18 months off the road to restore and re-energize. Back in full force, the band were scheduled to perform Main Stage at Download Festival (AUS) but it was recently cancelled due to the outbreak of the coronavirus.
