SMALL PLANETS was formed in 2015 after attending an inspirational Slowdive show at the Ace Theater in Los Angeles, CA. SMALL PLANETS started to quickly take shape over the next few months eventually finding Jeff Love on guitars, Josh Spincic on bass and Phil Drazic on drums. After an exhausting two-year search, the lineup was finalized with the addition of Jessica Hernandez on vocals and Ryan Silo on guitars.
The quintet spent the next the two years crafting their sound and developed a natural sonic flow while exploring ideas of tragedy, love and hope. Taking their cue from iconic bands such as Interpol, Joy Division and The Cure, SMALL PLANETS developed an instantly recognizable sound by combining their distinctive brand of darkened post-punk with Jessica’s striking vocals.
In early 2019, SMALL PLANETS met with Josiah Mazzaschi to record their debut album at Cave Studios in Los Angeles. The album was sent for mastering by the multi-Grammy Award-winning engineer Andy Walter (David Bowie, The Who, Simple Minds) at the legendary Abbey Road studios in London, UK. The self-titled album was independently released on October 18, 2019. Obscure Sound praised the single “Tonight” by stating, “‘Tonight’ rides with hypnotic allure, backed by a hazy synth pad and reverberating rhythm section in the post-punk tradition, a great showing of the band’s strengths,” while Spill Magazine lauded its’ “fantastic singing and thought-provoking lyrics.”
