Have you ever become triggered and then had to face the challenge of how to move on from past conflicts and disappointments?

This theme is explored in “Triggered,” the newly released song from DARLING CRUEL featuring GREGORY DARLING. The beautifully orchestrated and haunting piano pop ballad was written by Gregory Darling, who also produced and arranged the song, and is based on Vicky Hamilton’s (music executive, songwriter, author and music artist manager) lyrics. The two penned songs together in the late ‘80s when DARLING CRUEL was signed to Polygram Records and Vicky was the band’s manager. The haunting, black and white lyric video for “Triggered,” directed by Atlanta producer/director Ridge Beck, has been released today (August 23). Watch it HERE and listen to the song HERE.

“During Covid times, Vicky sent me a poem to look over,” says DARLING, who produced and arranged the track. “Immediately I felt it was my own, so it was a walk in the park to write the music, sing and produce the song.”

“Triggered” taps into Vicky Hamilton’s early years as a manager (Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crue, Poison, and others) which she wrote about in her acclaimed 2016 memoir, Appetite For Dysfunction. Hamilton—who also notably signed June Carter Cash to her label and released the Grammy Award-winning album Press On (Best Traditional Folk Album) in 2000—says: “The song started out as a poem—I often journal or write poems about situations that are troubling to me to work out my feelings. The poem is about how in my younger years as a manager, I would just allow myself to be drawn out into open battle with my management clients and debate the subject at hand. Now,” she elaborates, “I really try to sit with my feelings and analyze why and what is triggering me in any given situation. With my current younger clients, certain phrases and ideas make me remember past experiences but it’s hard to explain to them the pain of the past and bad decisions that were made. Sometimes in the present moment, you have to let them fall to know the ground is hard.”

The songwriting reunion of Hamilton and her current management client Darling was a long time in the making.

“This is the first song we’ve written together in over 20 years!” Hamilton says. “Gregory and I went back and forth over how we should release this song…Gregory’s band name, or to just under his name of Gregory Darling. In the end, we decided to use both names. He really got the music and arrangement totally right! It’s hard for me to listen to the song without getting goosebumps. If you go back and look at the ‘Everything’s Over (Passion Crimes)’ video by Darling Cruel from the mid 80’s, which was the first song we wrote together, you begin to see the full circle of our relationship. We are both adults now…it’s been Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, but in the end, we have crazy respect for each other, and we no longer sweat the small stuff.”

Hamilton is reliving her early days in rock via her interviews in the current Paramount+ docuseries “I Wanna Rock: The ’80s Metal Dream.” “Can I just say how much I love Tyler Measom the director of the series?” she says. “It was a four-year journey and Tyler really got my story and brought it to life. I’ve recorded a lot video interviews but I feel like Tyler really presented my true story and edited it with clips of the bands I worked in the past like Guns N’ Roses and Poison and he even got a clip of my current client, Lovely World, opening for Bon Jovi which Ridge Beck shot! ‘Triggered’ is the song that takes my whole management career full circle…when you live long enough, it all starts making sense!”

SWMRS is the sound of brothers learning to move with the currents. Like the ocean, life moves in unpredictable waves–you can’t control the way the ocean moves, but you can choose whether you sink or swim. The band is centered around the songwriting of brothers MAX (vocals, guitar) and COLE BECKER (vocals, guitar), who’ve fronted the band through many evolutions, and now sees the addition of their brother CADE BECKER on bass. The brothers have announced a new (and third) album, SONIC TONIC, due October 27, and today (August 23) have shared its debut single “Little Miss Sunshine.” Stream/download “Little Miss Sunshine” digitally HERE. Discussing his entrance into the band, CADE says: “My whole life people would ask me when I was joining the band, but I never played an instrument before. I was always a huge fan of the band, though, so when they needed a new bass player I volunteered. Max taught me how to play the songs on bass, and I practiced them nonstop to get ready to play shows.”

Keeping it in the family, SWMRS enlisted their grandmother to star in the music video for “Little Miss Sunshine,” directed by COLE and filmed at her apartment in San Francisco, CA. Watch the video streaming below or on YouTube HERE.

“This song is about looking back with fondness at a period in my life,” shares COLE. “The good times and the bad. When I hear it, I think of those small moments of invincibility— driving in a car with your friends, seeing a really good show— where the entire world feels within your reach.”

“When I was younger, the world seemed simple to me,” divulges MAX. “As I’ve gotten older— I just turned 30!— I’ve seen how complicated life can be. The music I write reflects where I am at now, and the little bits of wisdom I’ve gained along the way.”

On choosing their grandmother for the “Little Miss Sunshine” video’s lead, COLE says: “We wanted to document the fun and flair of our Grammie, and this song felt like a good match for that project. The video basically shot itself–we just pressed record and let her style do all the talking.”

SWMRS will appear with the new lineup on November 19 in Berkeley, CA at Cornerstone. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday, August 25 at 10 A.M. PT HERE.

JACOB REESE THORNTON, the “almost” 21-year-old South Florida-raised guitarist, singer and songwriter whose musical influences extend from 70’s classic rock through today’s pop, Brit and alternative rock genres, is the front man and major force propelling Jacob & The Dazey Chain. “Shell Game” was written by Thornton and produced and mixed by Mark Needham (The Killers, Fleetwood Mac, Imagine Dragons) at South Easter Studios in Nashville. “It was so great to work with Jacob in the studio” says Needham. “He’s a super talented player/singer/songwriter and really open to exploring sounds and ways to create the songs.” Jacob recalls how he met Needham: “I was at The Killers’ show at Bridgestone Arena and during a quick break I snuck out to the concession stand to grab a hot dog and just happened to bump into producer/mixer legend Mark Needham in line. I truly believe that as an artist, if you’re creating what is real to you, everything else will fall into place, and that’s exactly what happened that night. Out of some 20,000 people at that show, the universe put Mark in my path.”

JACOB explains that a shell game is “an old carnival trick and a game of chance where a player bets on a prize placed under one of three rotating walnut shells. No matter how certain you are of your choice, there’s always a chance the dealer is deceiving you. Reality can often be more than meets the eye.” “Shell Game,” he adds, “was the last song I wrote before leaving my family’s home in So. Florida and moving to Nashville in 2021. The song is about charting your own course and being willing to fail despite uncertainty and the deception that exists in the modern world. There are always setbacks but you gotta dust yourself off and keep going. That’s what the line ‘life’s a shell game’ is saying. That concept really resonated with me during the time I was writing for the new EP. Sometimes you’ve just got to accept what is out of your control, pick your head up, and move forward.”

21st-century rock vanguards FROM ASHES TO NEW have been making a splash in the rock and nu-metal scene with their new concept album BLACKOUT, released July 28 via BETTER NOISE MUSIC. Set as a prequel to their 2016 debut album DAY ONE, BLACKOUT mirrors the state the world was in amidst the global pandemic during which it was written of unrest and angst with a pre-apocalyptic mindset. Its 12 tracks encapsulate FROM ASHES TO NEW’s explosive blend of hard rock, hip-hop, electronic and alternative music.

Produced by vocalist Matt Brandyberry, alongside longtime collaborators and producers Grant McFarland and Carson Slovak¸ BLACKOUT featured FROM ASHES TO NEW’s fifth-ever Top 10-charting rock radio single, “Hate Me Too,” (#8) and their current radio single “Nightmare” is steadily rising on the Active Rock charts. DABOYWAY—the Thai-American hip-hop pioneer, co-founder of the chart-topping #1 group Thaitanium and actor—has announced a run of headlining shows across the U.S. later this month as part of his “Ways World Tour.” The tour will take place from August 16, launching in Fort Lauderdale, FL, until August 27 ending in New York City surrounding his upcoming Dembow-oriented single “Pogo”—a collaborative release with Dominican Republic artist Mark B. Tour dates are listed below; tickets are on sale HERE. “Pogo” was produced by Latin Grammy Award-winners Ricky Luna, Max Gallo, Alcover and JB1 and is scheduled for digital release on Friday, August 25 along with a new music video filmed in both Santo Domingo, DR and Bangok, TH. “Pogo” follows the success of DABOYWAY’s recent single “Cake Diet”—the first new music since his 2020 self-titled debut solo album. Produced by Luna and Gallo, “Cake Diet” was released via Def Jam Thailand last October. Its music video—generating over 3.5 million views and described by NME as “a carnival fever dream”— is an 8-minute short film featuring Miss Grand Thailand 2022, Engfa Waraha, with DABOYWAY helming the creative direction. The “Cake Diet” track also sparked a TikTok challenge which has garnered over 92 million views. DABOYWAY has been an integral force of Thai hip-hop culture since its birth. He co-founded the # 1 Thai-American hip-hop group Thaitanium who’ve released multiple chart-topping albums over their 23-year career and garnered global success having performed shows across the world for popular artists including Jay-Z, Nas, Snoop Dogg, Rihanna, Flo-Rida, and 50 Cent. In 2020 he became the Head of Def Jam Thailand, where he worked on developing and mentoring emerging international artists.

In addition to music, DABOYWAY has been acting in films regularly since his 1998 debut 303 Fear Faith Revenge. He also founded the massively successful Never Say Cutz barber shop chain; it has expanded into their own brand, NVSC Supply Co., with hair products, apparel, and more. NYC-based trio NEVRLANDS are excited to share a second track “Chemicals” from their forthcoming debut full-length LP TIMELESS due this fall via Better Noise Music. The trio—vocalist OKAN KAZDAL, guitarist LOUIE MALPELI, and drummer MIKEY PITTELLI—have today (August 11) released “Chemicals” across all digital platforms HERE and released a lyric video for the song which can be seen HERE or streaming below.

“‘Chemicals’ is about catching yourself in the heat of the moment,” shares NEVRLANDS collectively. “About painting a portrait of passion and finding that distinction between love and lust in real-time. There’s a very fine line that can sometimes be blurry, or sometimes it’s crystal clear. Is this real? Or is it just another fugazi? ‘Chemicals’ is all about questioning whether or not that perfect chemical connection will last once the moment ends.”

Aiming to provide listeners with relatable lyrics that provide a positive escape from life’s struggles, NEVRLANDS deliver a sonic blend of in-your-face rock n roll with grooving alternative rock and captivating pop-punk melodies. With her new solo album SECOND CHANCES coming out this Friday, August 11 via Blackbird Record Label, singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer and composer ABBY POSNER provides an anthem for all of the “outsiders” with her single “The Starting Line.” The music video for “The Starting Line” was exclusively premiered yesterday (August 8) via The Bluegrass Situation. ABBY has shared the clip publicly today (August 9) via her YouTube channel HERE and it can also be seen streaming below. The video presents “The Starting Line” in a stripped-down live setting filmed with Los Angeles’ serene Temescal Canyon in the background. ABBY performs vocals/ banjo and is accompanied by Paula Fong on backing vocals/guitar and Phil Glenn on fiddle/backing vocals.

“I really wanted to do a stripped-down live version of this song, because I didn’t want it to be perfect or overproduced,” shares ABBY. “The rawness is an important part of the song’s overall message. I have spent a lot of time in Temescal Canyon meditating, hiking and unplugging from the sometimes-chaotic hustle and bustle of LA! This is a place where I have always been able to self-reflect and see things more clearly.”

Reflecting on the message behind “The Starting Line,” ABBY, who identifies as queer (they/she), says: “I hope that other artists, queer people, and non-conforming/unconventional folks will be able to hear this song as an anthem for being able to let their freak flag fly and be proud of marching to the beat of their own drum.”

“I have always been torn between being an artist and having a family, and a part of this song is about working through some of these complicated feelings. ’The Starting Line’ is also about feeling like an outsider, and ‘falling behind’–it is a journey toward cultivating a new relationship and new perspective with that part of myself.”

ABBY will celebrate the release of SECOND CHANCES on Saturday, August 19 with a sold-out headlining show in Santa Monica, CA at McCabe’s. She will then be seen performing as an official showcase artist at AMERICANAFEST 2023 in Nashville, TN on September 21 at 7:00 PM at The Vinyl Lab along with a performance the following night, September 22, at The California Country Show AMERICANAFEST Special Event at ACME Feed & Seed which takes place from noon – 7:00 PM.

SECOND CHANCES was produced, mixed and wrote by ABBY who also performed guitar, bass, drum, keys, banjo, mandolin, percussion and vocals for all 12 tracks at Sonic Boom Room Studios in Venice, CA with engineer Kevin Jarvis. Inspired by a life-changing breakup and the introspective soul-searching that followed, SECOND CHANCES embraces her genre-fluid blend of Americana, folk, indie pop and punk rock. The album’s debut track, “Simple Life,”was premiered via Glide Magazine who noted, “Channeling the majestic folk of 70s’ singer-songwriters with a modern Americana edge…Abby Posner certainly has a way with words, images, and echoing a sepia-toned light with her tunes that evoke the forthright sounds of Aimee Mann, Lydia Loveless and Lucinda Williams.” Her second single, “Quiet On Sunset,” was featured as one of CMT’s weekly music videos and was premiered via Guitar Girl Magazine.
